This is by far the best sushi I have had in the Triangle. Fresh. Flavorful. Portioned just right for sharing amongst family or friends to get a taste of everything. The restaurant is a dimly lit ambiance giving date night or just relax and eat this amazing food. Whichever one you're going for lol The service is top tier! When asking for recommendations, I was given a great drink suggestion (Gin and Jam). I'm not a gin drinker but THIS was a great choice and I forgot I was drinking Gin. There are always several chefs freshly preparing the food so the service is not slow nor is quality comprised. I visited twice before I was able to review because I had to go back again to make sure I wasn't going crazy (haha) but to also invite my Mom who isn't a big sushi eater, though this place changed her mind. I didn't even take photos of everything I ate the 2nd time because we dug in so quickly. But overall, excellent experience!

This restaurant had a very nice ambiance. The sushi was very good as well as the sake. I went on a Saturday night and while it was pretty packed, we had attentive service. Sitting at the bar was nice as well since we got to see the chefs making the sushi right in front of us.

I've been twice. The first time I sat at the bar and the second time at a table. Photos from both visits. The ambiance is nice - new/fresh/updated. It's surprising to see considering it's in a shopping center next to a smoke shop. Don't let the outside deter you. Parking was easy. It was not crowded either visit. The staff were all helpful and welcoming. The menu prices are great for the quality of the food. I have had comparable sushi for much more. They have a standard menu and a "special menu" so not sure how long those items will last at those prices. The cocktails were good. I enjoyed mine both times. I like the ease of coming here to get a quality meal at a good price in a great atmosphere. I just hope people aren't deterred by the unassuming location and they manage to thrive.

Tried the new sushi spot Uglyfish in Raleigh and had a solid first experience. The decor inside was amazing, honestly way nicer than I expected based on the outside. It has a really cool, well-designed atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy the vibe. The service was great and extremely informative. The fish was absolutely fresh and high quality, which is always the most important part. That said, a few of the dishes felt like they were missing a bit of depth and flavor. Nothing bad by any means, just not as bold or memorable as it could be. Since they just opened, I'm definitely giving them some grace and plan to come back again soon to see how things evolve. There's a lot of potential here, and I'm excited to try more once they've had a little time to settle in.

After seeing posts about Uglyfish on instagram, we decided to go try it out. Uglyfish is a new sushi spot located in North Raleigh off of Altantic Ave//Millbrook. The ambiance and design is modern but a bit dark. We ordered two appetizers, three tolls and drinks. The food overall was pretty good. My favorite was the Kiwi Hamachi. The reason for 3 stars is the service. They were not adequately staffed to run the place on a Friday evening. We placed our order for the 2 appetizers and 2 rolls along with drinks. All the food came out at a decent pace. We realized that it was not enough food so we ordered one more roll. We had to wait about 20mins for just the one roll to come out. We figured we might as well get some dessert as well. We ordered the pumpkin cake. The dessert took another 20mins to come out. We were there for a while for a dinner that should have taken 1 hr tops. Also, not sure if they even have a manager on staff but we did not see anyone walking around or checking on customers. From it seemed like, the owner was there with his family and friends sitting at the sushi bar. Whatever staff was there seemed like they were busy attending them while the customers waited for their order. If I am going to pay almost $200 for a meal for two at a sushi restaurant, i can expect a lot better service!!!

Highly recommend this sushi spot! Ambience does not match the strip mall it is in! Thoughtful decor and lighting! The staff were accommodating, knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive! Great drink menu and absolutely outstanding sushi!

A beautiful (almost hidden) intimate experience! Tucked away in a plaza, the decor, lighting, staff, and vibes are unmatched. They have a different menu everyday with a ton of unique options. Enjoyed the Yuzu 75 drink, tuna guacamole and tempura green beans to start. Ordered 2 sushi rolls and we loved both!

I just want to be the first to do the review for this new place that I have grown fond of already and been there twice since its opening. So I'll keep it short and sweet for now, then add more later. The service is amazing, ambience is modern, sleek elegant and up to date. As for the food it is great I would say its as comparable to M sushi which to me is the top sushi restaurant in NC. For instance the Nigiri same platter quality is as good as M sushi; which is my favorite from the restaurant. Its a relief to finally have a sushi restaurant of this caliber to be located where it is. No need to have to go to Cary or downtown Durham for M Sushi. If distance is the issue or a matter of convince and time. Btw the flan cheesecake dessert is delicious and rare on the RTP; its highly recommended.

My brother and his wife and I all went here for dinner. The food was incredible, and the staff were amazing. Such a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend coming here! 10/10!! Can't wait to come back

Went here a few weeks ago and had a very good experience. Our server was very attentive and nice upon greeting and always made sure our drinks were filled. The sushi was delicious and had great flavors and good presentation. Overall I really enjoyed my experience and will be back soon!

I ordered the sushi combo (6 pieces of nigiri and a Sushi Mon hand roll) with a miso soup. The miso soup was a pleasant surprise and was delicious quite filling as it contained cabbage, salmon, and mushrooms. The 6 pieces Nigiri was also well balanced and had a good selection of sushi (amberjack, salmon belly, cooked shrimp, etc.). The Sushi Mon hand roll was good but had a bit of heat to it. Overall, visiting Sushi Mon for lunch was a good experience and I'd likely return if I'm in the area

I chose the fish wontons alongside the Raleigh roll, which was exceptional; the addition of mango on top was perfect with the lobster tempura for me. I am also always appreciative when a sushi place can accommodate my addiction to add cream cheese to any roll- they made it work! Service was prompt and attentive. The green tea leaned slightly earthy for my taste, but it did little to detract from an otherwise outstanding meal. I would gladly return and recommend this spot to groups seeking high-quality sushi in a polished setting.

I ordered five different sushi rolls, including the Carolina Twister Roll and the Spiral Ecstasy Roll. One of these rolls contains cooked/tempura ingredients, while the other contains raw ingredients. Despite this, the restaurant placed the cooked and raw sushi together on the same plate. This is absolutely unacceptable. I specifically requested that each of my five orders be placed on a separate plate, yet the staff completely ignored my instructions. This is not simply a matter of presentation or convenience. When raw and cooked food are placed together, there is a legitimate concern about cross-contact, especially for customers who may have food allergies or other dietary restrictions. What is even more frustrating is that this has happened repeatedly at this location. I have specifically asked the staff multiple times to keep the orders separated, and they continue to ignore the request. Whether this is because the employees are unwilling to take the extra time or because they are trying to save on plates is irrelevant. Customers should not have to compromise food safety because the restaurant wants to save a plate. I find this extremely unprofessional and unacceptable for a restaurant serving sushi. Customer instructions regarding the handling and separation of food should be taken seriously, particularly when raw and cooked products are involved. I am requesting that management and/or corporate address this issue with the staff at this location immediately. I would also like an explanation as to why my explicit request was ignored and why this continues to happen despite my previous complaints. This is not the level of food handling, professionalism, or customer service I expect from Kanki. I strongly recommend that management take this matter seriously and ensure that employees are properly trained to follow customer instructions and keep raw and cooked food appropriately separated.

Back then there wasn't much in this shopping center where it's located but once Trader Joe's opened up, it's survived quite the expansion. The dining area to the left of the entrance has a clean look with warm colored walls and bamboo covered chairs. With that said, if you plan to have a long stay with friends, the bamboo chairs become hard on your bottom and the straight-back chair hard on your back. Service was good with a nice gentleman who looked like he could fit very well in a restaurant like Irregardless. He was pleasant, patient and attentive. The Pad Thai at medium spice was just a little less than expected with a little heat throughout. The taste was good with a little sweetness, thin slices of chicken and noodles that were shorter in length. The Pineapple Thai Fried Rice had less spice at medium spice and was also good. Overall, the experience was good and the price during lunchtime very reasonable about $11 per dish. Would recommend a visit if you're nearby. If you plan to sit awhile, bring a cushion!

Located in a shopping center, it was easy to get to with ample parking. The restaurant was fairly empty so we were seated as soon as we walked in. I was surprised to see such a large and comprehensive menu of both Japanese and Thai options, and honestly it could stand to either be slimmed or organized differently. So many pages of small print text made it hard to narrow down choices, and even some pictures could have helped here. We ended up with a variety of sushi, an appetizer, and a noodle dish. One of the big things here is the BOGO sushi offerings, which is certainly appealing for a value and variety standpoint. We made sure to order enough to maximize the discount, though it's important to remember they apply the discount to the cheapest items. One other weird quirk is they will only honor the BOGO for a single check, so if you're with a group and want to split checks this becomes a problem. Our group chose to have a single check and paid each other directly instead to make sure we got the discount. All of the food was pretty good. The sushi offerings were perfectly decent though nothing remarkable, but the value to quality balance needs to be taken into account. The restaurant itself could use a bit of work, since between hard chairs, lots of black and red paint, and mostly empty seats it didn't feel super inviting. Overall a decent option and I'd consider coming back, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.
