Good place in Lakeview for Vietnamese food. It has some pretty good classics such as pho and more. Mk Noodle is pretty casual and small. As a result, it makes a better time to come at lunch. This is also conveniently located close to the Paulina station, so you can take public transportation and not have to worry about parking. At lunch we came to a nearly empty inside. It could have been a bad sign. This luckily wasn't. Basically this place is very casual. It has funky Asian cartoon drawings on the walls. As for the food, it was about as good as one can expect. We each got the Pho Chay Vegan. It's about $13 for a big bowl. Prices are kind of high but not as bad for this as at some other places, and this is a very large portion too. Mk noodle is probably my most frequented restaurant at this point. It's delicious, fresh, efficient and friendly. As a vegetarian they are extremely accommodating imo! I've had the tofu banh mi (comes with fries- VERY good price and the fries are fantastic), veggie pho (very good-probably my 2nd favorite only behind sunset pho), veggie delight w tofu, pad see ewe, and their bun soy chicken and tofu bowl. The latter is my most frequently ordered and I crave it! Portions are FANTASTIC and it's always fresh! The ambiance is comfortable and clean and there's usually plenty of seating. A recently opened Vietnam place in lakeview. My friends have gone here before and decided to go again after a night out. Whenever they bring me along I just expect mediocre pho and nothing more. I can eat it, but it reminds me nothing like homemade pho or ones in west coast or even Vietnam. MK gave me hope there could be amazing pho in Chicago. They call you to pick up your order and you place your tray away once you're finished. All my friends got an avocado smoothie as well which looked tasty! Pho: rich. Flavorful. Good portion. You can order at a self serve touch screen kiosk or at the counter. If you pay cash, you get 10% off. The interior is still a work in progress: looks like there are some half-finished murals on the wall. They didn't have napkins, just rolls of paper towels that you help yourself to. Also a couple self serve water pitchers. Of course, superficial stuff can be forgiven if the food is good... I ordered the pho brisket and the bun shrimp vermicelli bowl with pork. The pho brisket was tasty--it was a large portion, the broth had good flavor, and there was a generous portion of beef. I would order this one again. The vermicelli bowl was okay. They used pho noodles in place of actual vermicelli, which is a much thinner noodle. And most importantly, there was a piece of pretty raw pork in the bun vermicelli noodle bowl. We let the staff know, so hopefully it doesn't happen again. Will I be coming back soon? Probably not! Don't want to bite into a piece of medium rare pig again. What a great addition to the neighborhood! It's so nice to be able to get some decent Vietnamese food without having to trek to Argyle. We popped in on a Wednesday night around 7pm for dinner. When you enter there are kiosks directly to your left where you'll place your order. We sat down to wait for our food. While we were waiting, we overheard an employee telling a customer you can get your food gluten free if you ask up front. Once our food came we were surprised and impressed by the portions. The 2 spring rolls were big and filled with more lettuce than noodles. For $6.95 I felt like this was a pretty good deal. My fiancé got the Bun Egg Roll & Pork ($13.95), which came out in a big metal bowl. He said it was pretty good and even after eating his fill had a decent amount of leftovers. Ok Mk Noodle, I wish you were around when I grew up in Lakeview so I didn't have to drive all the way to Argyle to get authentic Vietnamese food! Whenever I visit my parents in the city or if I'm craving pho (which is all the time) I will be ordering pho and other dishes to take back to Deerfield because your food is that good and worth the drive! I ordered from Mk Noodle on a whim unsure what to expect because many people commented they weren't sure how authentic the pho was. I'm not Vietnamese BUT I've had my fair share of pho from here, Houston, LA, SF and NYC and this place is legit. Their broth had deep flavors and I didn't need to add anything to it because it was that good. You can really tell they cook their broth for a really long time to get that depth of flavor, it's nothing instant. I ordered a rare steak/tripe pho with extra noodles, shrimp and pork spring rolls and the beef with mushroom entree. The spring rolls are fresh and fat, the beef with mushroom was flavorful and for the price I thought everything had good portions. The pho was packaged so neatly, the rare meat was even in its own ziploc bag to not bleed into the noodles. Do yourself a favor and order extra noodles, maybe even some extra broth. I had the leftovers the next day and wish I had ordered at least an extra small broth. I ordered online on a weekday around 1pm. They are busy so make sure to give yourself plenty of time to order. I think it took at least 30 minutes for my pick up to be ready but the wait was so worth it. When I used to live in Printer's Row/South Loop, one cuisine really missing from that area was Vietnamese. There are some spots in Chinatown and the Loop, but nothing that came close to what Argyle has. Now that I'm in Lakeview, we're a lot closer to Argyle but I was happy to find a pho spot right up the street from us. My favorite phos have great broth and aren't afraid to put in meats like tripe, meatball, and tendon - many other places further south in the city just don't have that on the menu. They don't have tendon but otherwise I can get my chewy meatballs and crunchy tendon pieces I love so much. The servings are gigantic and the broth is flavorful and aromatic. And pro-top: bring cash if you can. They also have various bubble teas - while I'm not a huge fan of them my wife appreciates them. The only miss I would say would be the banh mi. I ordered the pork one with pate and mayo but I noticed it didn't have the pate nor mayo...looking back, I think they gave my the barbecue pork banh mi instead which may not come with those, but I was still a little disappointed. At least the bread, meat and fries were good, it was just missing some things I'm willing to give it another shot though I'll check to make sure I get what I ordered. read more
