If I had written this when I first came here this might have been a 5 star review but over time things seem to be getting worse. I've been coming here for almost 7 years. I've been consistent and always paid up front. The dentists have been consistent and fairly reliable. 2 issues that have me looking for a new office. 1) front desk is just unpleasant. The reception staff doesn't seem to care about any needs. I got sick once in four years and didn't want to put the dentists at risk. Tried to reschedule and they wanna charge me a bunch of rescheduling fees? Next time I'll just give you Covid and save money at the same time. What a deal! 2) the location has zero parking and unless you are walking from DTLA I wouldn't recommend leaving your car / bike in the area. My requirements for a good dentist are so minimal. After much research, I chose to book my routine annual care with Dr. Mak and enjoyed two great visits with him. He's kind, knowledgeable and a consummate professional. Upon arriving for my routine cleaning today, a dentist with whom I am not acquainted announced that we would be performing my cleaning. It was a weird proclamation. I informed him and the receptionist that my appointment was booked with Dr. Mak, more than 6 months ago, and I expected Dr. Mak to perform the procedure. I was promptly dismissed and told that another dentist would perform my cleaning. I did not consent to the transfer of my appointment to an unknown provider and would have been happy to reschedule if i were given the option to do so. Neither the receptionist or dentist offered an explanation or apology for circumventing my right to choose my dentist or wasting my time by having me visit the office when my preferred (and confirmed) dentist was not available. It was a less than pleasant experience, particularly because they have patients sign off on billing to their insurance before services are provided. I specifically asked that the document be destroyed since no services were rendered, and was again ignored. Hope this feedback and experience is helpful to others. read more

In one word, Phenomenal! Dr Rodney Kleiger is the best dentist I have ever been to. He is thorough and caring. His work is impeccable. I had a crack in my back molar, it was so sensitive and Painful. Have I not rated my dentist!!? I highly recommend MKD Dentistry. I'm probably one of the few people who likes going to the dentist. Perhaps it's because I've never had cavities or drilling or the like, so I haven't had traumatizing experiences. But I have had deep scaling, regular cleanings, and a tooth pulled. I really love Dr. DeMesa, who I followed from his previous office in Pasadena. Dr. DeMesa is super patient with me even though I don't do most of what he tells me to do. He has a gentle demeanor, but can be tough when he tells you plainly what you need to do to take care of your teeth. Plus, he's fine with my looking over his shoulder and trying to analyze and interpret my xrays... What is that? Oh that's normal.. And what is that? I may be the only one who likes a report card for their teeth whenever they do measurements at annual check ups... Can I have a print out of my numbers? Ummm sure... He remembers me each time (probably because I'm a weirdo at the dentist) and is always friendly and nice. The office itself has a good vibe. It's on the 5th floor of the Pac Mutual Building (the one with the Starbucks on the corner)... and is conveniently located (to me anyway because I can walk from work on my lunch break). Each seat faces a floor to ceiling window so you have nice lighting, it feels open, and has a nice view. If you have to go to the dentist, go to this one. read more

I can't believe I'm saying this but I just had the best experience getting my cavity filled. I hate cavities and dentists. I started going here in 2021 for routine cleanups. Today I had an appt to get a small cavity filled. Dr. De Mesa is AMAZING! It was the quickest and most thorough appt I have ever had at the dentist. He answered all my questions, was efficient and quick in getting the cavity filled and I was out of the office within 45 minutes. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I absolutely hate going to the dentist, it always freaks me out. It had been quite a while since I went visited the dentist- but finally went again this summer. Several friends (from different) friend groups recommend this place and they were right! They have great protocols and I was able to get an appointment no problem. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes when I check in- and I appreciate their timeliness! I was seen by Dr.Klieger he was amazing, super comforting and thoroughly explained everything! He made me feel super safe and comfortable! Parking is a bit tough. I opted out to park at the PAC mutual building to save time. It was about $12 bucks after validation. This is neither one of those. I don't have enough amazing things to say about this place. The office staff is amazing, they fit me in, working around my availability to get me into the office downtown so I didn't have to go to Pasadena. All of the assistants were so helpful, nice, and thorough. Dr. Mak was extremely competent and truly just great. Jennifer was the best dental hygienist I have ever had - she was so efficient! I've been going here since they opened a few years ago. I have been to all of the dentists and hygienists, and I really like them all. I've never been overcharged or had any issues with billing or insurance as other reviews have mentioned. There's no hard up sell like other dentists for extra and unnecessary services. My only comment is that I wish the front desk staff was more pleasant to communicate with... but I like the other staff (dentist and higienis so much that I still feel strongly that they are 5-star worthy. **update** they have new front desk staff and she is lovely, smart and never forgets to follow up with you. read more

Just came back from my third visit to MKD Dentistry, with Dr. De Mesa and the staff. I'm new to Los Angeles, but I couldn't be more satisfied and grateful I found this practice. I went to see Dr. Mak in the downtown LA office for a cleaning and routine X-rays. There was no wait at all - they brought me back to a chair and started my appointment on-time. Everyone is wearing PPE and the I felt very safe in the office. Their Dental Assistant Rudy did my X-rays and was really friendly and helpful in explaining how the appointment was going to work, as well as who works at the practice. Dr. Mak did my cleaning and was also very friendly and knowledgeable, explaining thoroughly all my options for keeping my teeth healthy and clean long-term. Not only did they do a great job on my cleaning (easy and painless). They worked quickly. I was in and out of there in exactly 1 hour. One note on the parking for the downtown: I'd recommend looking for street parking or parking nearby in a cheaper lot. I called ahead to ask if I should try to find street parking but the receptionist told me I could park in the building and get validated. Then at the end of my appointment when I asked for validation, she said she was out of parking validation stickers, that she wouldn't have any until this afternoon, and that there was nothing she would do to help me (very unhelpful). So, I had to unfortunately unexpectedly pay $18 for parking. read more

MKD Dentistry is hands down the best dentist I have been to in LA. I have been a patient with them for a few years now from working in the Pacmutual Building. Their office is on the 5th floor- great view, and super clean. They even offer an Uber service now if you are in the area (just make sure you request a day before). I went in last week for a check-up as my wisdom teeth were killing me. They squeezed me right in for an appointment that day and referred me to an oral surgeon for a consultation a few days later. After the appointment, I was still unsure at what to do and Dr. Mak called me back over the weekend, and even again the morning before my surgery to lead me in the right direction and give me the best advice. I was extremely grateful for his support and guidance. The staff really cares about their patients and makes that known. They have always been so personable, helpful, communicative and trustworthy. It pains me to write this review, since the dentist himself and dental work done were actually excellent. The dentist was very friendly and effective and the office itself was clean and welcoming. However - the back office processes of this dentistry are questionable at best and deliberately designed to overcharge patients at worst, and I have filed an insurance fraud claim with the State of California in hopes that the appropriate authorities can investigate whether this dental office systematically overcharges its patients. I have been to this dentist several times for regular cleaning and checkups and didn't notice any noticeable issues with paying for those treatments. Earlier in the year, I scheduled an "emergency" appointment with this dentist because I had chipped one of my teeth and wanted to have it treated. The dentist was able to take care of the issue without any problems, so after the treatment, I went to the front desk to pay for my bill. The receptionist at the front desk (Mercedes) told me that my insurance only covered 80% of my treatment, so I had to pay a large amount of money (much larger than I have ever been quoted for any treatment I've gone through) out of my pocket to pay for the bill. The 80% quote seemed a little low to me, but I wasn't 100% positive about what my % coverage was, so I just let it go and paid the bill. A week later (May 31), I was sitting around at work, and for some reason I remembered the 80% coverage quote and decided to confirm that number with my insurance. I double checked the number with my benefits, and it looked like I should have been covered 90%. I took a print screen of my coverage and emailed the dentist the information confirming if there was a disconnect between what I was quoted and what I'm seeing in my benefits. I received an email back from Mercedes the same day stating the following: "Yes you do have a refund that has been submitted for review and processing, please allow 2 weeks before funds are returned to you." This struck me as strange. Would I have received this refund if I did not reach out to ask for it directly? That doesn't seem like a the correct process, but I let it go and waited for my refund to arrive. Sparing some of the details and dodgy responses, after more than 6 weeks of persistent emailing with Mercedes, I called my credit card company and asked them if they could refund me directly, since I was not able to take time off of work to pick up this check from a dentist office that had made this mistake. This was the first doctor/dentist office that I have been to that charged me a co-payment without actually knowing the amount that my co-payment should be. This, no doubt, results in multitudes of overpayments. Based on my experience, the overpayment is not guaranteed to be refunded to the client without initiation and constant follow up by the patient alone. My one experience was several hundred dollars of incorrectly charged funds. I could only imagine how much this process could potentially have collected over all the different treatments that were much smaller than mine that would have flown under the radar. Because the onus was on me to reach out to micromanage my dentist to confirm my co-payment and I alone was constantly checking back for updates on when my refund was coming, I have filed an insurance fraud with the State of California in hopes that this billing process is either investigated or reevaluated by the dentist. There have been a few other reviews on yelp for this dentistry that reflect questionable billing practices. Before you consider going to this dentist, be aware that, unlike the other medical and dental offices you have been to, there is a potential onus on you to determine how much you are obligated to pay for your treatment. read more

Drill happy dentist. Went here for 2 years and they were always up selling different cosmetics which I didn't want but they did a pretty good job at cleaning so I didn't mind that much even though they were an expensive option. Then I convinced my wife to go. When they were cleaning her teeth they popped a filling out by prodding it. Then told her she needed a root canal. She got a second opinion and the other dentist said they were crazy and you could just redo the filling. There was no infection and the tooth was perfectly healthy. Who does that?!? Pushes unnecessary surgery for money. If you go here I suggest a second opinion before anything major and if you aren't here yet I suggest you turn and run. read more

Located inside the historical Pac Mutual building is the very modern, open, loft-like offices of MKD. It's convenient if you happen to work downtown like I do. There's also a Pasadena location that I hear gets quite busy. I see Dr. DeMesa, who works out of downtown LA once a week. Thank God I have dental insurance because my teeth are a hot mess and I needed a lot of help. I've had the experience of having a bad dentist and also a really good dentist previously. So when I came here for my first visits I was aware of what I needed and what kind of service to look for. I knew already that I needed a long term treatment plan and even though it was overwhelming to get started, I'm really happy a year later and I am so pleased with my results. Even when this office needed to refer me out to another specialist, THAT office was fantastic too. They had such nice things to say about my dentist, his reputation among his colleagues is strong. Dr. DeMesa and his staff are so kind and always very professional. I usually have lots of questions about my insurance plan and payments. Mercedes (at the front desk) answers them all, and even if she can't answer something on the spot she will follow-up with an email in a day or two. Dr. Dennis De Mesa is so awesome. I had a very early 730am appointment last December and he was there ready for me. I had an issue with a tooth for a while that needed a new filling. I got there and his assistant was not there yet but he managed to do everything really well by himself. He did the filling really well and fast. I was able to get to work on time. He's an expert. He is very hardworking, very honest and very nice dentist. He truly cares and he would not tell you that you need a service that you don't actually need. I also had the best teeth cleaning ever. Vivian cleaned my teeth. She is the best! If you need a really good cleaning, look for Vivian. Mercedes is also awesome. She was helpful with setting my appointments and taking my payments. Anyone who is reading this review should go to this dentist. Also, if you don't have a dentist yet and you are looking for a really good dentist that cares or if you're not satisfied and happy with your current dentist, you should go to this one. If you have issues and worried about your teeth, Dr. Dennis De Mesa will really help you. You should call Mercedes and make an appointment and you will know what I'm talking about after your visit. I'm writing this review because they really helped me and they provided really good services and they really cared so it's the least I can do. I'm wondering what I did to get on this receptionist's, Mercedes', bad side. Everyone here seems to think she's great and I had the exact opposite experience. She was short with me from the start, unresponsive to emails, after my teeth cleaning it took her three days to get me a general quote for follow-up services, she refused to give me an itemized quote for those services, and then she wouldn't give me my x-rays unless I paid $20. Apparently the x-rays aren't mine because I didn't pay for them, my insurance did. Uh - who do you think pays for my insurance? Regardless, I had just paid for the x-rays and a cleaning, so how about show some customer service and don't charge me $20 for something that costs you nothing but 20 seconds of your time? I really believe she was either uninterested in helping me or has no confidence in MKD's pricing and was trying to make it harder for me to shop around. Anyway, I eventually got what I needed (after an awkward back-and-forth) and I can now shop around for more manageable pricing (or hey, even the same pricing, who knows? But you don't take the first offer, right?). Also, Dr. DeMesa was great but if I were you I'd go to his Pasadena office. I, however, won't be returning because my experience with Mercedes left a bad taste in my mouth. This city is too big to deal with rude people AND give them money. read more

I must admit I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to the dentist. For most of my life my dentist always cleaned my teeth personally up until the last 5 years when it was done by a hygienist. I tend to trust dentist more that spend time with their patients and at MKD they do. I currently don't have dental insurance and am a little OCD when it comes to my teeth. I'm also a Grouponer and recently realized I had missed my last 6 month check up and started scouring Groupon for a deal. I looked over a few with mediocre reviews and then happened upon MKD dentistry and I'm glad I did. Dr. Kleiger was amazing. He provided a thorough cleaning himself which is a plus and he even provided an in depth tooth anatomy lesson as he reviewed my X-rays with me. I definitely picked the right place!!! Great people, and great dentists. They are kind, have pleasant personalities, and are very communicative when they work on your teeth, detailing every item for you as they are working on them. They explained to me which items would and wouldn't be covered by my insurance (after checking with the insurance I submitted to them) and why they were performing each item on my teeth. They'll show you the X-Rays, and very clearly display and explain what's going on with your teeth with regards to what needs to be fixed. The office is comfortable, clean, and welcoming. They also send text message updates/emails, and Mercedes will usually call you prior to your appointment to confirm, which is truly helpful in remembering. read more

I have finally found my dentist in LA! Dr. De Mesa was BEYOND awesome. I came in for a groupon deal as a way to try someone new out, and he did an exceptional job on my cleaning and exam. (Rudy did an awesome job with the x-rays, too...) I have some old bonding on a front tooth that was a bit rough and I thought I had to have it all redone, but Dr. De Mesa told me it was ok and just needed a quick re-polish, which he did, for no added cost. Do not trust this dentist. I recently moved to LA and came here because I work downtown. I was shocked to find out I needed FOUR fillings because I have only had 1 filling in my entire life. I told them I wanted to think about it before getting them filled because I was shocked. I then started receiving very pushy text messages from the receptionist pressuring me to come in before the end of the year to get my teeth filled and trying to scare me telling me I wouldn't want them to get worse. I called MKD to get a copy of my x rays so I could get a second opinion and they charged me $20. I got a second opinion today back in my hometown. Turns out I do not need four fillings AND it is illegal to charge me for my own x rays as those are my records. I am horrified and will not be going back. read more

I just went in and saw Dr. Mak for a same day root-canal and it just confirmed that all 3 dentists here are spectacular. One of my colleagues saw Dr. Klieger and said he was phenomonal as well. Dr. Mak laid out all of my options, didn't pressure me into a decision, then carefully laid out exactly what he was going to do. He was so great with the shots that i didn't even feel them. He does the shots slow so that they are not painful at all. As far as the root canal, I did not feel any pain at all. I have found my new dentist! I have seen Dr. Mak twice and so far I love him and his staff. He is very attentive to your oral health and has state of the art office equipment that makes your experience even better. On my last visit I needed a crown replaced and I was very happy that everything was done in house and I didn't have to wait for another party to make the crown because I hate those temporary tooth things. My crown is beautiful, the color is right, and it looks just like my other teeth. Thank you Dr. Mak, Rudy, and Teresa! My only con is that parking sucks!
