I needed a repair on my MacBook Air and called the Apple store in Corte Madera. They said that it would 5-7 days for the repair and that they ship the computer out for it. I couldn't be without my computer for that long. I called Mobile Kangaroo, who after a diagnosis ordered the part and I left with my computer. 2 days later, I received a text telling me that the part was in and that it would be between 2-3 hours for the complete repair. I only didn't have my computer for those 3 hours. The technician was very nice and friendly. I highly recommend them. My last experience has caused me to no longer recommend Mobile Kangaroo. I spilled water on my laptop, I called to bring it in and was given a quote explaining what had happened. When I get to the store the new employee tried to charge me double my quote over the phone to look at it as it was water damage, though I'd explained that before booking an appointment. He relented after I started to walk out. My computer repair quote was equal to the cost of a new one. When I look at this laptop I'm not sure it was even opened and accessed, I believe they were upset at me for holding them to their original quote. I asked for a printed repair quote to in hopes that I might be able to claim it on insurance. They did not have one. I had to go but I called them back in 10 mins and asked them to send me one to my email on file, they never did. I emailed them days later to ask for that quote, but they never responded. Bruh, just no. I went here after the person on the phone was incredibly rude to see if I could get my device fixed, and because it was old and would require older parts, they quoted me (without even looking at the device) for $350+ for repair, saying "it's not even worth the cost fixing it because it has no value". I asked if Apple would give a different quote and they said they wouldn't even consider repairing it and would refuse me "at the door". Well well well, I just dropped off my device at Apple and they quoted me at $146 for labor and the repair. My advice? Don't go to Mobile Kangaroo or third-party retailers, stick with Apple and it'll likely be cheaper. I never give low scores but I have never had such terrible service. I took my computer in on the 13th and I was told 3-5 days. It is now the 21st and I have not heard anything from them. They have a web email system (You can't send a regular email) that does not work and nobody answers the phone number or returns calls. I am hoping this review will get them to contact me. I know service is slower during Covid but the lack of response is not okay. I would have waited longer for the Apple Store but thought Mobile Kangaroo would be okay since they are an Apple Service Provider. Think twice before you use them. read more

AVOID this company for your Apple Computer Repair. They have had my laptop for three month and the have not been able to repair it. I had an old Time Capsule that would not take backups. I took it to Ajay at the San Rafael Kangaroo shop. He found the serial number I could not see and thoroughly checked the device, even testing it with a known good hard disk. He concluded that it had a hardware problem that couldn't be fixed since Apple no longer supplied parts for it. Ajay was thorough, friendly, informative, and competent. The service from the Post Office is better. Dropped my computer off for service and was asked if it was backed up. I know. I know. I should now that, but it would be nice for them to remind you in the appointment confirmation email. Took it back the next day, they recommended reinstalling OS and I agreed with their recommendation. Came back a week later to pick up, and was told by the guy sitting in his car smoking a cigarette that "were closed and will reopen in 15 minutes". Ok..wait my 15 minutes, he finds the computer and asks if we want the OS reinstalled. Uhhhh...yeah!! That's what you recommended!! As u can guess, they didn't complete the work and now I have to come back once complete. read more

I've visited this office twice and both times I was struck that for a service built on helping people the agent here wasn't helpful or a problem solver. It's disappointing as they're near my house. He man-splainer simple concepts I had demonstrated I understood and I was the one to suggest possible solutions to the problem I was having which he said wouldn't work, but ultimately did work. They're limited in what they can do given their relationship with Apple. Unless your repair is under warranty, I'd suggest you use a different vendor. read more

I love all things Apple except the chaos at the store when you need a repair. Finding out that we have an alternative closer to home and with no drama was mind blowing. I had to try Alex at Mobile Kangaroo and he did not disappoint! I was pretty sure my iPhone 6s needed a new battery and he confirmed it. Alex runs the place, does the work and its all fast and with a smile. Things to know.... 1. hours are 10-6 Mon-Fri and closed for lunch 2-2:30. 2. Whatever your issue, just bring it in first so he can run a diagnostic test. He can't take your word for it. 3. If he doesn't have the part, you pay and he orders it and then calls you to come back. (he called me the next day) otherwise he might be able to do it right then and maybe even while you wait. The new battery & installation cost me $30.89! That's a deal. And so I asked him about my MacBook pro which probably needs a new battery as well and I'll bring it into him soon. First impressions: I was early for my appointment and they saw me early which was great! The guy who helped me asked a lot of good questions about my keyboard and other problems. He was clear with me about the possibility that my hard drive might be wiped (it wasn't-yay!), he was very clear about the timeline (repair took half as long as I was told that it could take). I was told I'd receive an e-mail confirming or giving me some sort of info while my MBP was being worked on, I don't know because I never received an e-mail. When I got my MBP back, I was not given an overview or any documentation that my MBP had been serviced. It was more or less, "here's your computer, bye." The exterior had prints and something sticky on it that I wiped off. I also noticed some light scratches on the "Apple" side of the case. The thing is my MBP has never been without its case, so they did not give it back to me looking pristine as the Apple store does. My computer problems were fixed so 5 stars there. Customer service at check in was 4 or 5 stars. But the customer service when I received the MBP back was 2 stars. So I'd say 3+ stars overall or a solid C+ (almost above average grade). Will I be back? Probably not-I get consistently good service with a smile from the Apple Store in Corte Madera. This time I didn't want to trek down there and deal with the parking and crowds. But next time I'll be heading back to the Apple Store not because Kangaroo is bad (it isn't)-I just prefer the service at the Apple Store. read more

Really pleased. Came in for warranty repair on my Macbook. At first I was a bit put off - was told it would be 4-5 business days just to replace a faulty display screen - It turns out Apple won't let them do anything until they've run a full diagnostic and then it was expected to take 2-3 days to get the parts, another day to install. . . . . Samantha there has a rather "dry" and matter of fact attitude, that I took for a lack of concern for the impact on me of being without for that long. I think that may have been my interpretation - -- Happily, it turned out that the whole job took only one day, and when I went to pick it up she was clearly pleased that she could deliver it that quickly, and made a point of letting me know the work was warranteed, encouraged me to contact if there was any problem, and etc - so all was good. I definitely feel I was treated right and got way more than I expected. Compared to the "I'm doing you a favor just by allowing you to breathe" attitude at the Apple store in Corte Madera, I'll take Mobile Kangaroo any day. This branch was great! I booked a spot with them via Apple. They got my computer and had it fixed in three days, even with the pandemic in full force. They did not skimp out on their service either. I had a broken backlight on my computer and they went the extra mile and replaced the display, speakers, keyboard, and a few other smaller things. The latest visit, I called at 4:45 on a Friday afternoon to see about having the battery replaced in my 6s phone. He told me he would have me in and out within 30 minutes. I wanted to replace the battery in my iPhone 6 for awhile, wondering if the performance drop was caused by my original 2+ year old battery. I started my search from the Apple site and saw this place listed as a nearby Apple Authorized Repair shop. Craig did a quick diagnostic to test the battery and ordered a new battery. He said it might take 10 days to get it, but in fact, it was more like 4 days. Faster than expected? Sure, why not! When I got my phone back, it was definitely faster, allowing me to switch between apps in a second (vs. 5 -10 seconds) and do everything a lot faster and easier. I highly recommend this location. I needed a mismatched camcorder memory chip removed from an iMac, and I just could not get the slot to let go of it, no matter what I did. Not wanting to damage either the chip or the slot, I called the Apple store, but they couldn't schedule me for several days and recommended Mobile Kangaroo. I got an appointment same day, took the iMac in, and Craig Underwood (owner) had it safely out in less than a minute! He just "knew the feel of it after so many years." Mobile Kangaroo San Rafael has the most unprofessional and misleading customer service I have experienced in recent memory. It has taken 5 scheduled appointments over 5 weeks to simply have my iPhone7 battery replaced. My phone is the lifeblood of my business and I depend on it hourly. I was requested by Apple to make an appointment for battery replacement, which I do at MK. Show up at MK a week later where they perform a simple test and verify my iPhone7 should be replaced. However they need to place an pre-paid order for the battery which is on backlog. MK says due to a small hairline crack in my screen, the entire screen must be replaced. +$180 3 weeks later my battery comes in and I arrive a week later to have the repair done in a promised same day turn around. Upon arrival they have to verify my battery is still in stock and was not give to another customer. I am promised same day turn-around. I pickup my phone and am told the repair is complete. The next day my battery is dying quicker than I anticipated. I perform my own test with an app which shows a worn out battery. I call MK and they say there was a mistake they FORGOT to change my battery. They tell me I can arrive (for the 4th time) after 3pm to have it changed on-site under my special circumstances in a 15 minute window. I arrive at 3pm and am told the battery is not onsite yet and still in SF on a Friday and it could be another hour or more before it arrives. I can wait or come back. I have yet to have it replaced. This is totally unacceptable. read more

Brought my Mac to this place due to a failed hard drive. Craig, owner and manager, took a quick diagnostic and made his recommendations. He was clear, concise and very knowledgeable. He gave me immediate sense of trust and relief and I went for his recommendation and I am happy. He also replaced my spent battery (10 year old Mac) and he was able to save all of my content and make a clear transition into the new solid-state HD. Highly recommended to all Apple users out there. I agree with others that this is a place to avoid. I went to them recently regarding my Macbook. Because I've opened it up previously to change the battery, Apple said they will not work on it. (I now want a factory battery.) So I was referred to Mobile Kangaroo by the Apple web site. I called to ask them what they charge to install a new battery in, and they said $175. I made an appointment and went in. When i got there, they not only didn't have the part in stock (and so why were they having me come in?) but they told me there was $125 labor to install it, in addition to the $175 for the part. (They didn't mention that on the phone.) That's a total of $300, for what apple charges $129. I called another Apple authorized repair shop in Berkeley - Computerland - who said they would charge $199 total parts and labor. Still more than Apple, but a third less than Mobile Kangaroo. So in summary: Mobile Kangaroo is over priced. And they aren't clear about the total charges when you call them. read more

Horrible service. I brought my laptop in after a spill and asked that they clean it, but made it clear it was working fine and I didn't want to do a major repair at this point. They sent me a text a few days later indicating it needed a $900 repair. I reiterated that it was working fine and I just needed it cleaned. When I picked it up, it had clearly not been cleaned. Visible crumbs etc in the keyboard that weren't there when I dropped it off. $130 for doing nothing. Just horrible. read more

I am super pleased with Mobile Kangaroo- San Rafael's service and professionalism. I had keyboard issues with my MacBook Pro and was referred to Mobile Kangaroo by Apple Support. Probably due to Covid-19, I had to schedule an appointment to drop off my Mac. They offered pick-up service, but I preferred to bring it in myself and explain the issues. The appointment was scheduled for the same day which was super. Drop-off was smooth and seemless. During drop-off, the staff was helpful and intelligent. They used a number of Covid-19 safety precautions which made me and my daughter feel comfortable, including only one customer in the store at a time. They completed the repairs successfully within 10 days, as promised, and called and emailed me when it was ready to pick-up. My MBP looks like new. In sum, I've used the Apple Store for repair services in the past and found Mobile Kangaroo San Rafael to be comparable to Apple Store's excellent service. read more
