With the addition of another rescued cat to our family, it is now officially way too onerous for me to round everyone up and cajole them into carriers for the annual schlepp to the vet. Dr. Lam is AWESOME. My King Cavalier seemed pretty sick and I was really anxious about the thought of putting her down. Dr. Lam came to our house, did a gentle, thorough, diagnostic exam and was very empathetic about how I felt as well as treating my dog for her ailment. His diagnosis was very accurate, he gave me options and explained them thoroughly. He didn't try to sell me on all kinds of expensive diagnostics just to make a buck! His rates are VERY reasonable, considering he comes to your house at any hour. My dog is doing much better. My experience with this business has been exceptional. My dog has skin cancer and has had at least 6-7 surgeries. I haven't been to thrilled about current vet services as I feel like there is a lack of compassion and a money motivation so I called Dr.Lam. He came to the house and confirmed Snoops needed surgery and quoted me a VERY REASONABLE price. He was super informative and easy going. I liked him right off the bat! He performed the surgery and found more cancer that he took out. He did not charge for it. He also cleaned her teeth and did a medical nail trim. Then he brought her back to me. I think the most important thing I want to say is that the vet I used for the last surgeries never took the measures to zap the small cancers which eventually become the ones that need surgical procedures. Because of Dr.Lams foresight, Snoop will probably avoid more surgery and anesthesia and big$$$. I am very grateful to him. He's my vet from now on !!!! Dr Lam is terrific! Was desparate to find a mobile service for my dad's aging dog. Hard to transport because had hip dysplasia and snaps if try to carry him. Couldn't leave Dad alone to take dog to vet. Searched the Web and found Dr Lam. Super reasonable prices for a mobile service, and almost equivalent to some pricey vets like the VCAA in Pearl City. Dr Lam very knowledgeable, informative, calm, smart, problem solver, realistic, compassionate, animal lover most definitely. Will continue to see him. We have multiple animals and he was able to service them all at a very affordable rate. And I didn't feel like I was getting over charged like I do at the other vets. We are a military family and are currently living in a hotel as we out process. We needed to have our dogs and cat vaccinated but couldn't get to our usual vet. Dr. Lam came to our hotel in Waikiki on a Sunday, vaccinated our three pets and did heart worm tests on our dogs. It really helped us a great deal to have someone come to us instead of us having to move everyone. Also Dr. Lam was really patient and took time to answer our questions. He didn't rush through the appointment which was great! He made it clear that if anything seemed wrong with our pets, call him immediately and he'd come right back and exam them again for free. That was reassuring! Because Dr. Lam works alone, you need to be prepared to be his assistant, so have your pets favorite treats and a couple towels to hold your pets with on hand! Dr. Lam deserves 10 stars! Our pure breed pit bull who is 14yo was plague with many illnesses to include a huge mass on his back and other skin disorders. Dr. Lam performed surgery and removed them and treated all his medical needs. We can't thank him enough and his staff. They were so caring, loving and thorough in treating "Boogies" needs. So I saw a sign for a mobile vet on the car of a co-worker and inquired because I had never heard of one before...turns out my co-worker is Dr. Lam's sister and so I went online and read the reviews....I felt confident so I made an appointment...it was quick and effortless...Dr. Lam is very accommodating to your schedule. Since I'm working and going to night school I scheduled my Baby's appointment for 8:00 pm. When Dr. Lam came through the door my Baby instantly liked him...usually she lays in a submissive pose and pees but she greeted him like he was her new best friend! My Baby had a heartworm blood test (turned out negative--so thankful), a check up, and I bought a years supply of heartworm medicine...our bill was under $200! Unheard of! I wish I knew of Dr. Lam earlier! The heartworm test took ten long minutes to develop and Dr. Lam was genuinely concerned about the outcome and just as relieved as I was when it turned out negative...so caring! He discussed possibly purchasing pet medical insurance, Hibiclens baths for her skin problem and recommended two vet hospitals she can get her teeth cleaned at because she will need general anesthesia. Dr. Lam will be back in two days to update her boosters. This was the first stress-free check up for my fraidy cat pooch! Try this service...you will not be disappointed! read more

Whenever I had a pup emergency this vet drops everything to come and help me out. I appreciated it so much that I made him my regular vet. So I ordered several boxea of Bravecto and heartguard meds for my babes and Dr. Lam gave me some rebates. Well with the rebates you need an itemized receipt... I no kidding... have been asking Dr. Lam for an itemized receipt for 3 MONTHS!! The rebates expire this month and still I have no itemized receipt. I called him, left him messages and he would reply I will get it to you. I even asked if he could write it on a piece of paper, take a pic and send it to me in text... even asked if I could meet him somewhere so I could get the receipt... like what is so hard to give me the receipt!! Im so frustrated that this is taking 3 months.. possibly more... I am boggled to why its taking so long. I even sent him pics of the stuff I got from him in case he forgot and stiiill... no receipt!! I feel like I am being ignored... I just dont get it!! read more

BEWARE!! My dog had a lipoma removed from her chest and we followed discharge instructions to the T. We applied a warm compress and gave prescribed medication for inflammation and pain. 4 days later she was bleeding from her incision from 5am to the next day. We called Dr.Lam and his wife, Mary, told us that the bleeding was normal. We took her to an emergency clinic and they tell us she has a really bad infection. Now my dog has passed away from this infection. PLEASE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PET GO TO AN ACTUAL CLINIC! We were not given antibiotics early enough to fight off this infection nor adequate information about what could happen post operation, such as blood pooling at removal site. Only when we called about my dog's bleeding were we given antibiotics. Also, when Dr. Lam's wife stopped by to drop off the antibiotics, she did not check the incision site and based her opinion that my dog is doing ok by how she was acting. Due to this negligence my dog is now gone. She was healthy and only 9 years old and she's gone from us forever. read more

I am moving to Brooklyn from Honolulu, and I needed a veterinarian to do a health check and fill out forms for my parrot. I was faced with the possibility of not being able to fulfill all the convoluted requirements of the airline and the states of New Jersey and New York. Time was short and it was very difficult to get information. If my pet was a dog or a cat, it would have been much easier, but no one seems to be able to give an authoritative or definitive answer when it comes to birds. I was in touch with breeders, the USDA, New Jersey's Fish and Wildlife Service, Animal Health and Welfare, and Department of Agriculture, the airline's PetSafe and cargo people, both local and national. I needed someone to come to my apartment because I am trying to minimize the bird's stress. I called Dr. Lam and I made an appointment. He arrived when he said he would, made the necessary health check, and filled out the forms. He even did the research and cut the red tape that was driving me out of my mind. Through it all, on the phone and in person, he was calm and kind. He somehow cut the problems down to manageable proportions. I was so relieved to have my questions answered and the paperwork done. I would recommend Dr. Lam to everyone. He knows how to treat animals and their people with patience and a calming manner. He deals professionally with the immediate problem and goes the extra mile to make sure everything will be taken care of. He even charged me less than I was prepared to pay. My cat had a blood test that showed elevated glucose levels, which could have been related to a very stressful car ride. I was told that he could have diabetes and may need insulin shots for the rest of his life. We scheduled an appointment for a follow up test, but I wanted to give my cat the best chance of having a normal blood test result. So I set out to find a mobile vet to do a follow up blood test. I came across Dr. Lam's website and decided to give him a call. It was very easy to set up an appointment within the week, and the visit was such a great experience! I didn't have to stress out my cat by putting him in a carrier and driving 20 minutes to the vet and another 20 minutes back home. Thankfully, my cat's glucose reading was normal, and he doesn't need life-long medication. I would recommend Dr. Lam to everyone! He is very gentle and caring and took the time to answer all of my questions. His rates are very affordable (I would have paid double at my regular vet clinic). When our 13 1/2 year old Rottweiler lost mobility we called Dr. Lam to determine what could be done to help him. Dr. Lam was able to come over the same night we called. did an assessment and prescribed medications for pain and to help with mobility. He explained that due to his age the treatment would really be about keeping him comfortable and minimizing the pain. Unfortunately over the course of a week his health deteriorated to the point that we had to make the heart breaking decision to euthanize him. Dr. Lam came over and explained the entire process in a calm and caring way and took every precaution to ensure we were ready. Upon our dog's passing he was very gentle with him and offered to do the clay imprint and shave some hair for us to keep. We really appreciated the care he took, the time he spent explaining the procedure and the respectfulness with which he treated us and our beloved companion. read more

This is a late review. We called Dr. Lam one Saturday afternoon earlier this year to see our 13-year old dachshund who had somehow injured his back and could not walk without what appeared to be excruciating pain. Dr. Lam said he could come to our house after his appointment in the country. He showed up late that night and was able to confirm our dog's condition and give us some medication (pain killer and muscle relaxant). He did not have a supply of additional medication recommended so he drove back to our house a few days later to drop it off at no additional charge. Our dog is fully recovered thanks to Dr. Lam. Our dog Sparky has always had difficulty with vet visits. When he got near the vet's doorway, he would start to hyperventilate & become so anxious we could hardly control him (& he is only 20 lbs). Vet visits were not enjoyable to say the least. We received a referral to Dr. Walter Lam who recently visited our home & gave Sparky his yearly exam. It is very rare to come across someone as caring and genuine as Dr. Lam. He has made a dozen or so house calls to our home in Haleiwa to take care of our 4 dogs as well as our littler of puppies last year. Dr. Lam has been such a blessing to our entire family. When the littler of puppies arrived, there were complications. Dr. Lam went above and beyond and spent hours upon hours with us to make sure we had everything we needed to save the puppies. Without Dr. Lam we would have lost the entire litter, but because of his intelligence and kind heart the puppies thrived. Last Saturday night, we had to make that difficult decision to put our 12 year old Rottweiler Pono to sleep. I came home from work and he was laying in the same spot as when I left in the morning. He was still eating and drinking but he had no interest in sitting up and he would not let me hold or help him. The only thing Pono would do was nudge my hand to scratch his head. Which is what he always did whenever he wanted his head scratched. It was late and we couldn't let him suffer through the night. We called around to several places but everyone said that we had to get him to their facility in order to help us. I was searching Yelp and came across Dr. Lam. I called him and he returned our call in about 20 minutes. I explained our problem to him and he said that he will be over in about 30 minutes. When he arrived, he explained what the process was and what to expect. He continued to explain each step as he was gathering his equipment. After he administered the sedative, Pono just put his head down and went to sleep. Dr. Lam told us to take all the time we needed to say good bye to Pono. When we were ready, Dr. Lam administered the final medication to Pono. (This we couldn't watch) After Dr. Lam confirmed Pono's passing, he made an imprint of Pono's paw in clay. Our faithful old dog could no longer walk one day and it was heartbreaking to see him in distress. It was time to for us to say goodbye to our beloved Bruder but I didn't know how I was going to get him to the vet as he was in so much pain that he was growling at us if we tried to carry him. Thank heavens for Dr. Lam. Bruder's last day at home was spent lying on his favorite bed, eating his favorite meal and getting lots of hugs and pets from all family members. Dr. Lam was very thoughtful and explained every step that was to occur during our goodbye to Bruder. He never rushed us and gave us as much time as we needed. It was a very peaceful way to send Bruder off and he had no stress or pain. Dr. Lam was very empathetic and professional.
