Food is pretty good. The fried chicken is the best but if you pick the breast it's kind of dry. I got an egg white omelette. Basic, simple, and they got it right. We were there around 10am on a Sunday and they had already run out of country fried steak. The waiter said the next closest thing would be fried pork chops. He was nice enough to bring us out some complimentary gravy. We sat outside on their patio. Service was not the best. It was slow and they constantly forgot items we asked for. I heard about Pann's Restaurant from a You Tube video I saw with Charles Phoenix. To visit Pann's is like stepping back in time. Take the time to admire the architecture, inside and out, to truly capture the experience. The staff here is warm and welcoming and we were given a booth to the side where we can see everyone coming and going. It is obvious that the customers return to Pann's for more than just the food. The come for the experience. We ordered mimosas, salmon croquettes, chicken fried steak, omelettes, and biscuits. Everything in our order was first rate. I really became full on the nostalgia down to the vintage clock and tiles on the wall. To me, almost everyone dining here looked like a film star. Went at around 9:45am on a Sunday, and our party of 2 was seated right away in the outdoor patio (inside was full at that time). Our server was wonderful and very attentive with refilling coffees, and asking if we needed anything else. I always drive by Pann's but never really thought to try it due to the parking, and it seemed like a bit of a wait every time I was around. Though it was a wait this time, it went by in a decent time, and we were seated once the whole party was here. I had heard about the pancakes and chicken and was excited to see what the hype was about. That's the story of how I ended up at Pann's before my early morning flight back to Reno, NV. My wife and I both decided on checking out the Chicken and Waffles, 2 piece dark for me, and tenders for her. You can't go wrong with either of these options for sure, both of them were as tender and moist as can be, and both were completely different in flavor. The tenders seemed to almost have some type of chili or Cajun flair to them, and spread out among the ultra chewy waffle, this was a hell of a hangover cure and a great way to start the trip back home. I will say I was a bit shocked by the setup of the bathroom, I haven't had to sit in a toilet with nothing but a shower curtain covering me since my days of the military... but hey, let's just file that under "added to the experience." read more

Today was not a good day at Pann's. The service was lacking - took a seat at the counter - not only did no one acknowledge a paying customer for almost 10 minutes- at least three different people behind the counter turned their heads each time eye contact was made. Food was served quickly after placing my order, which is what I like about Panns - chicken was steaming and nicely fried, the French toast on the other hand was rock cold, slightly burnt on the bottom - and the whipped butter did not melt on it. I remember going here once, and not really remembering this experience. But then I came back, with a Yelp prone eyesight- and now this place is going to get oodles of praise. What struck me first, was the fact that it was busy on a Wednesday afternoon. I know that different folks have different jobs, but if we were to take a poll, most people say they reserve their sit-down-outside-home meals for the weekends. So I think having a full restaurant on a Weds. is still an act of greatness. And after eating here on a Weds. I can see why this place is just that--- great! And I fret to think what my wait would be if I came on a Sunday during brunch time. And, although, I enjoyed this place, I would not wait more than 30 minutes for a table. So maybe the moral of my rambling thoughts, is go here when it is not that busy so you can be seated quickly and enjoy a good meal. This place also has tremendous nostalgia all around its walls. Like in one of the pictures I clipped, there is this same restaurant but from the past. The exact year I do not know. But a guy was wearing a suit, and had this timey old cap. It kind of reminded me of the garb that men wore in the I love Lucy episodes I saw. Plus, I see some poodle skirts, or big hoop skirts, no matter how much Project Runway I see, I cannot tell the difference. The picture almost seems stage. Still for a moment, I was invited to a time and place of years gone by. And what I felt was awe that the past existed as a distant memory that I did not live. What were these people talking about? Their food? Their woes? The state of the presidency? The fences that needed repair? Everyone seemed happy. Everyone seemed to be part of a commercial that endorsed, not only the restaurant but the joy of the time. But, as I write this, I know that during that time, I would not have a seat at the table, in more ways than one. We ordered and the food came surprisingly fast, and it was still good. Like I was happy, that it was delivered quickly and the quality endured. I enjoyed the chicken salad with an avocado. Although, not pictured my full salad bowl was clean post my fork at work. I cannot write an ode of love to this salad, but know that it was above decent, it was clean, fresh, and all the ingredients played their part well, and remained a consistent ensemble through out, and the chip strips added a crunch that I did not know I needed to love. My companions meal was also like super tasty! Like the pancake, I thought, was really good, when I saw it on the other plate. My friend took syrup poured it on top, then underneath, the first one, then put soem on top of the third one. She spread the syrup on each pancake. I never had seen someone do that, but it makes sense, pancake syrup distribution was spread equitably. As I looked back at her meal, through the picture I took, I think that is good looking food- yum! This place has people, good and fast service, and in general has much to see, including nice windows to see the street and car watch. Met my cousin and his wife here for breakfast after landing in LA. Parked our car and wifey says "keep the doors locked!" The waitress was very nice, my cousin's wife spoke Spanish with her. The menu is pretty extensive. The food portions were generous, a slightly greasy, but not too greasy. My brother brought my wife and I here for breakfast. It was on Wednesday morning around 11 and the parking lot was full. When we walked in the restaurant it was also full but we got a table immediately which my brother says was good timing. We placed our order and believe it or not, we had our food within 10 minutes. And it arrived to the table hot and everything was cooked to perfection. My brother had the fried chicken with eggs and french toast while my wife and I shared a (4) piece chicken, (2) scrambled eggs and hash browns with toast. Solid. Consistent. That's what we love! Always busy and aside from the fact that they're only open for about three hours a day, it's because the food is so satisfying. I've only had the breakfast menu items and keep coming back when I want a chicken and waffle splurge. I love that the chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The eggs are usually made just how I like it (I have had some egg-trouble in the past with it being over and under cooked). However, we still come back so they're doing something right. Waffles, fluffy and cooked all the way through. Their pancakes are good too. Parking is sometimes a headache, but once you get past that and the wait (which actually isn't terrible), all is well. I live nearby and always see a line, so I had to check it out. They're located by a busy intersection, but thankfully they do have their own parking lot, and my friend and I were able to snag a parking spot in there. We left Bakersfield early to on an airport run. Afterwards, I needed breakfast. Pann's Restaurant sounded good. It's retro style and friendly attitude attracted me. It was easy to find, but parking can be tricky. Since there was only one of me, I got to sit at the counter on this busy Sunday morning. The place was definitely hopping. There are a lot of booths and tables, and even outdoor seating. Pann's opened in 1958, and the walls display a lot of memorabilia. The architecture is from that time with lots of sharp angles and rock. I order the Forest Omelette, sans onions, and it came out faster than any order I have EVER had at a sit-down restaurant. They cooked the eggs perfectly. There wasn't extra butter or oil. It was full of delicious ingredients. I had the hash browns and toast. This was a good meal.
