Waffle and wings combo with scrambled eggs.
    Shelly R.

If you live in LA you know many soul food restaurants are not open on Mondays and some Tuesdays. I wanted grits, eggs, pancakes, catfish, something along those lines. I found this little gem without the pancakes. They serve waffles instead. It's weird when you walk in because there isn't a podium or area to check in. The waiter came out and said I could sit anywhere. There are 5-6 tables inside that seat 4 people and one bar height table that seats 2. Outside seating has 2-4 tables. I was going to take out but since it wasn't crowded I decided to eat in (Monday at noon). I wanted the waffle, egg and catfish combo but there wasn't any catfish. I changed it to wings. I also ordered a side of cheesy grits. It took about 10 - 15 minutes which isn't bad. Everything looked great. I try grits wherever I go. Always! Even when I travel. These grits were sooo good. I only added butter and they were flavorful. Not bland. AND they were creamy! The only negative was the cheese wasn't mixed in. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside!....sooo good. The wings were fried and seasoned perfectly. The eggs were scrambled nicely. I tried not to eat everything. I wanted to save some for later. I ate all the grits and half of the waffle combo. The waiter was nice and friendly. I will definitely return and try to get the catfish.

Some of the best brunch in all of LA!! banging catfish, all of their fish is cooked to perfection, and the Chicken and Waffles is next-level (fried exactly how I like it). Customer service is amazing. This is a Black-owned, women-owned restaurant and it is a 10/10 all around. I'll definitely be back.

Really enjoyed this spot! Service was great and the food was really good. Will definitely be back. Bully omelette was good but I'm coming back for that Catfish!

    Chicken and waffles

The toast & jam has the BEST chicken and waffles in all of California. We've been frequenting this establishment for the past 8 years, and even though we moved an hour away, we still make a point to stop by for breakfast. The chicken wings are a special kind of magic, perfectly crunchy while succulently juicy. This place truly does not disappoint.

Service team was so nice and efficient. Food was delicious. Asked to speak to the Owner to let her know how wonderful my experience was, and she was delightful. Nice lunch/brunch after church :-) Definitely going back! The side of tomatoes were so good with their sprinkle of herbs. It also came with buttery sourdough toast that was yum!

Service is great. Coffee is AMAZING. Portions are small and bill was 54 something for two plates and coffees. That's high for the food that we got. I ordered the waffle and chicken wings which were the size of buffalo wings (3). My plate was 23 dollars. It came with perfectly prepared eggs too. My son got the breakfast burger with potatoes. (See pics). His plate was 19. Food is good and again, coffee is excellent. Miguel was a great server. He was prompt, friendly and gave had amazing energy with a beautiful smile. Parking is metered for 2 hours. This is a cute, little breakfast spot.

Fried catfish and buttered wheat toast.

I ordered catfish, cheesy grits and scrambled eggs-medium with wheat toast. I ordered online for pick up, it was ready in about 12 minutes on a late Saturday morning. The catfish was fried, seasoned and cooked perfectly. The grits were good but the cheese was not mixed in, so the cheese was stuck to the paper. The eggs were good and scrambled just right. They buttered the toast and I added grape jelly. This was a nice late breakfast for me. They offer waffles, fried wings, bacon, sausage, and many other breakfast options. The place is a little on the small side but there's a food amount of tables and chain side and a seating area outside. Metered street parking is available. There are other businesses in the area and people are coming and going. I've never had a hard time finding parking on the block.

I ordered the chicken and waffles and was left with a greasy half hearted waffle and no option for compensation unfortunately a disappointing meal

    Classic breakfast with wings
    Drizzy J.

Just left about 5 minutes ago and my overall opinion is that the place is very basic. I had the classic breakfast with wings. Eggs scrambled hard, wheat toast and breakfast potatoes. Chicken wings were basic, not much seasoning. Hot sauce needed. Eggs were basic. The breakfast potatoes looked great but had ZERO flavor. I had a bite of my girlfriend's waffle and again was very basic. Not much flavor. My toast was amazing. My biggest complaint is that the place is called Toast and Jam but they serve prepackaged Smuckers jam. What a let down. The best part about this place was the food came out fast. They also charged my card for the wrong order then refunded and charged me again. Probably won't come back.

Breakfast sandwich and omelet with grits

Everything was perfect from the staff to the patrons and don't even get me started on the delicious food ! I usually get the wings and waffle. The wings are old school...season, drop em in flour then into the hot oil. Not that over battered nonsense! Today l had an omelet with Chipotle aioli sauce and grits. My friend had a ginormous breakfast sandwich. DE-LIPSMACKING-LICIOUS!! (Yes, that's a word bc l said so!) Now we have the Itis and need a nap IYKYK! Do come with an empty belly. You will not be disappointed

I came through around noon during the week. There were five other patrons, no wait. I checked out the menu before coming and decided the breakfast sandwich was perfect but I wanted to try their chicken so I ordered a solo chicken wing. The sandwich was delicious. The toasted sourdough stole the show. It was the perfect buttery crisp. The service was ok. I was a little annoyed the man came to take my plate and napkin without even asking me. It was rude. I checked my watch to see if they were about to close. They still had an hour left but it appears they were packing up and ready to go by 1pm. I guess..Ambiance: The restaurant could use a few small upgrades to push it over the top. It's very boring inside. Worn chairs. Nothing fancy at all. So wouldn't recommend for a cute brunch or breakfast date. Also like to add as others have mentioned it was confusing walking in. No podium, no one to greet you. It was an awkward walking in, having never been before. The menu was small, but overall the food was great!

Classic breakfast with catfish and sourdough

Great local awesomeness. Ordered classic breakfast with catfish, potatoes and sourdough. Fantastic. The catfish was perfect. Not a lot of "ambiance" but staff were dressed well, and incredibly polite and kind. Very welcoming to a traveler like myself. I look forward to visiting again!

    Waffle, cheese eggs, fried catfish.

This pace was fantastic! I had the waffle, cheese eggs and catfish. The waffle was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fish breading has a subtle flavor that sets it apart from other restaurants. What can I say, it's hard to screw up cheese eggs ( spoiler alert they did not mess up the eggs). The service was great, and the staff was friendly. The only criticism I have is the price. In addition to what I ordered above, I hade an orange juice and coffee. With tip, it was well over $40 for just my breakfast order.

I'm almost always disappointed in restaurant coffee but these guys had some premium brew going. And they kept the pot circulating around. Originally we were headed to another breakfast place but the lively atmosphere, open to the breeze walls and vaulted ceilings of this place drew us in. The Downtown El Segundo Breakfast scene is actually kind of amazing in general, with lots of options everywhere and easy parking options throughout. Highly recommended morning excursion.

The last time we were here, it was during a busy lunch and both the service and the food were below par. But tonight, it wasn't as busy and our server, Geovani, was excellent. First, we were quickly greeted and asked to select our table (since they were not that busy). Since there was only two of us, we picked a table for two. But, after we decided that we would split an appetizer and an entree, the table for two became way to small way too quickly. Geovani jumped right on this, suggesting we move to a larger table. He helped us move everything over and, voila, we were able to stretch out and relax and enjoy our meal. We started with the pear and blue cheese salad and, wow, we could have just ordered this, split it, and we would have been full. Very flavorful, generous portion that is definitely big enough to share. We also ordered the Sausage & Leek Fettuccine and I was definitely not thinking. Totally forgetting that leeks are part of the onion family (and I have a sensativity to onions). Once the dish arrive, I immediately noticed the similarity and was slowly trying to pick them away from my portion. Once again, Geovani came to our rescue. He asked how everything was and I told him I made a mistake (noted above). He quickly volunteered to have the kitchen make it again without the leeks. I asked, "Are you sure?", and he immediately said yes and removed the dish. Very shortly after, he returned with the "onion sterile" dish and it was wonderful. Both of us were so full you could have rolled us out the door. Good thing the parking garage is so close so we could just hop in our car and go home. Time to loosen the belt! ;) In a week where we have had some personal issues, it was so nice to be treated so well and received such a great tasting meal. Hope you get the time to stop in and I hope you get Giovani to answer all your questions and issues. Enjoy!!!

The folded egg sandwich is phenomenal, but the real game-changer is adding their house-made turkey sausage. I tried it once, and now it's hard to order anything else. It's packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and easily one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had. The pastries are just as impressive. I had a seasonal peach Danish that was incredible, and the peach monkey bread with vanilla glaze was absolutely out of this world. Thankfully I had a couple of people to share it with, because otherwise I probably would've eaten the whole thing myself. The coffee is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is warm and tucked away from the hustle, and you can tell they care about every detail. One thing many people may not realize is that their brioche buns are so good they're featured at other popular neighborhood restaurants. Great food. Great coffee. Great people.
