I work in the office building next door and was super excited to find out there's a little cafe to go to in an otherwise pretty food-sparse couple of blocks on Wilshire. It's tucked into a ground floor corner of the office building, but there's a sign directing you. Plus listen for music, which is usually playing from the cafe. Press doorbell to be buzzed in past the half-door. It's run by a nice lady and her menu includes all-day breakfast items (bagels, breakfast burritos, sandwiches), cold and hot sandwiches, wraps, salads, smoothies, coffee, tea. I've so far tried the California Club sandwich, which was tasty and plenty filling, and the Breakfast Burrito with bacon, which looks small at first glance but full of flavor and sufficiently filling for the price. I love that she cracks actual eggs to make the breakfast burrito! The little cafe also has bags of chips, candy, and other small snacks you can get. There's a nice selection of sodas and juices as well. There's also ice cream bars! And if you happen to need an emergency Tylenol, Advil, Pepcid, etc, you can also grab single packs for a couple bucks. All the prices are very reasonable, but it is cash only! I have only been working in this building for about 6 months and since I started one of my colleagues noticed I'm a snacker and told me to check out the cafe downstairs. Very glad I did! I've only met Suzie, read some of the older reviews stating its managed by a couple. Suzie is the sweetest, kindest, most welcoming owner I've come across and for LA that is almost impossible to come across now. I love Mocha City! It is a cute little cafe in the building I work in, and the two wonderful Korean women who run it are the friendliest, sweetest, most helpful ever! It is a "mom and pop" operation, that takes cash only, which is open for breakfast, lunch, coffee and snacks. Their food is remarkably good and they offer a large and diverse menu. Great coffee, awesome breakfast specials and truly astounding (large portion) sandwiches. I love their wraps and their Turkey Cranberry sandwich in particular! They run one of the best little sandwich cafes in the area, and they are also friendly and kind. They always add a little something extra to your salad or sandwich. Don't really understand why the Mocha City got such good ratings, they are really misleading. Went there for breakfast the other day and the portions are small, but pretty pricy for what you get. Also the taste wasn't too good. It's okay, but there's nothing special about it. Anyone could do that on their own at home. Even tough there were 2 people working at the same time, it took them about 15 minutes to prepare our meals and drinks. Only our meals and drinks, nothing more than that. There was no one else around. Guess they only survive since they are located in a large office building and people working there have no other choice than getting their lunch and coffee there. I'd like to write better, though they where not upfront about their pricing and did not listen to my order. For a simple small cup order, they thought something differently, having to repeat my order just before they made the wrong one. When going to pay, they increased the price a dollar more than what it said on the menu. This is unacceptable. Reluctantly, I paid for it, knowing that there won't be a next time here. This is the only place that is in walking distance to where I work, so I finally tried it! It was definitely a pleasant surprise! :) I had the California Club Sandwich and it was pretty good, I would definitely order it again. It had a good amount of meat (ham, turkey, and bacon), cheese, and fresh veggies. They have wheat, white, and sour dough bread to choose from. Also the meals come with a small side of salad and macaroni salad. All this for $7! I do not have a menu handy and would probably order from them more often if they had something available for me to look at. This cafe serves organic coffee! It's always on point and the staff is always more than willing to accommodate any preferences I throw at them. They always remember me and pay special attention to each of their customers. Most frequent buys: Breakfast burrito and the Pastrami sandwich. Breakfast burrito comes with all of the goods (avocado, bacon, egg, cheese, tomatoes, etc) and comes piping hot in your choice of wrap. I told them I like it spicy, and so they make it spicy for me. The pastrami sandwich is excellent. They make it however you want it. I'm weird and like alfalfa sprouts in mine. The sandwich also comes with pasta and salad with your choice of dressing (get balsamic). The pasta! Comes with imitation crab and it's delicious. read more
