I hate to write this...but I feel compelled to share. I came all the way from Calabasas to check out this place after seeing it on IG, advertised as a café with an awesome kids play space (my husband had to be in the area so my son and I were going to hang out here for a bit). Before unloading my almost 2yr old, I pop in and tell the cashier "Hi, I saw this place on Instagram, is it kid friendly?" She says yes, so I proceed to retrieve my toddler and our stuff...only to return to the same person to tell me that they don't have the kid stuff today, only on weekends for a small windows of time but that they are 'kid friendly'. My husband had already driven off, so I said I would make the best of it, but huge bummer and if she said that in the first place I wouldn't have gone in. I wasn't offered a high chair or booster seat. I didn't see a kids menu, just 'peewee potatoes' on the regular menu. We ordered the potatoes, and avocado toast (no egg or cheese because we're vegan) and an OJ in plastic cup so my son could safely enjoy. I was a little surprised to see no obvious vegan options at a spot like this...but the potatoes were so bland and a little undercooked for my preference :/ I took one bite and knew my son wouldn't eat it, I honestly don't think my dog would have eaten it either. The avocado toast was great entirely because of the chili sauce that comes with it, CHILI SAUCE WAS SOOO GOOD. But it came to $30, which I would have justified if we got to play in the kids zone, only we didn't. -.- It seems like most other guests came for the coffee, so I assume that it's good. I appreciate that they reserve windows seats for people who appreciate the view with signs posted not to use laptops there. BUT the kicker...at some point my toddler tossed himself on the floor...where I saw a dead cockroach! I tried not to freak out or cause a scene...maybe it came through the front door that we were kinda close to...but, every way I look at it, it's not okay! We also arrived only an hour after they opened, and my son picked up the utensil he dropped and it was covered in hair! Really disappointing that this 'kid friendly' place was so unclean and not really kid friendly! Even at the end, waiting outside for an Uber to take us to a park, an associate came out of the Cafe to warn me not to let my son touch a metal art display because it wasn't secure and could fall! I only had one item here: the rose latte, so there isn't much to go on, but it was decent. The cafe has a very rustic vibe and plenty of free street parking. There is actually a dance studio attached to it to. Came on Sunday specifically to visit the kids play area and eat. What a fun idea - surprised there aren't more places like this. Kid area completely separate with a door that shuts as to not bother the rest of the space. Great open area for kids to play, run around and explore. And they have a couple of tables for you to eat. Order at the counter and they'll bring your food to you (all in to go containers). The food was pretty average for how pricey it is but honestly it was nice to be able to eat and have a place for my toddler to run around. Street parking only, we had to park a bit away but honestly not too terrible. Great place to meet up with friends or other families. read more

Well... I live 5 min away... last time I came here I said never again. My sister in law had a negative experience as well. There is consistent attitude. Like if I say thank you or smile, it is dead face. The music is too loud and whoever is the DJ here today on their phone plays a song for a minute and on to the next.. "I'll f*ck you till you love me" ok what a choice. Ok the volume is crazy. She must be hard of hearing. I feel like asking for hot sauce or water... is a burden... k am I a burden?? I just spent $25 on a whimsical breakfast and ok I said my scrambled eggs well done and explained I don't like any liquid runny... there was runny yolk. Never ever ever ever again never coming back. I just went here a few minutes and it is the best! The ambiance is very chill and I think it is really great to go and hang out, laptop session, meetings, etc.. Me and my family decided to try this place and I offered to pay (I know I'm the best lol) so here is what we got and what we rate them! 1) orange juice- It is amazing! My daughter loved it. It doesn't taste like a normal orange juice so you should try it! 2) plain warmed croissant- it tastes great by itself but maybe ask for butter if you need something more. 3) breakfast croissant sandwich- I loved this plate! It was simple sandwich that did not feel heavy and it was a good portion for $15 and it also comes with a salad with some kind of amazing lemon vinaigrette dressing! 4) iced vanilla chai latte with oat milk- it was an okay latte I liked it but I will be honest and say I have had better elsewhere 5) mocha double shot chocolate with oat milk- mom says it was very enjoyable! 6) americano with half and half and oat milk- dad says it's very smooth and he would come here for a cup of coffee again! My dad loves coffee and drinks it all the time! He hates Starbucks so he knows his coffee ALL IN ALL TRY THIS PLACE!! Thank me later! I had the breakfast hash, and it was really soggy--veggies were swimming in water, and the whole dish felt a bit thrown together. Among walking in I want so sure about the place because the staff just looked at me and didn't say anything. This was my first time in and I was confused where to order one I did the young lady behind the counter spoke and then when I was ready said you need a minute to which I said yes. She was very dry and I'm not sure if that is an LA thing or not but it was bet off putting. I went outside some it was nice. They have a lot of seating around the building that is cool. Once the barista brought my drink my perception of the staff changed he was super friendly. Food: I ordered the lemonade which is lavender and a shot of espresso on top. To say he did exactly what I wanted is an understatement this was the best I've had since I was in NOLA. The croissant sandwich was wonderful and I loved the surprise of heat from the chili aioli. The salad was a nice refreshing side instead of potatoes. All in all this is a cute neighborhood coffee shop. read more

This was my first time going to Paper or Plastik. From the outside, it is a cute and hipster-esque, dog-friendly area. Entering the cafe, without there being a line, I wasn't really sure where to order at first. The layout was not very intuitive. I ordered a French toast and Iced Chai Latte with whole milk. The downstairs section was laptop-free. While I love the concept, I wish there was a place for me to have used and charged my laptop while I ate. (The upstairs, laptop-friendly, areas were full.) The French toast was very average. The bread was a little dry and lacked flavor, likely due to average custard base. The Iced Chai was made from a concentrated base, but it was good. My family and I have enjoyed Paper or Plastik for years. The food is delicious and the environment inviting. This particular time was made extra special by Halley. While I waited for our coffees to be prepared, Halley commented positively about a sweatshirt that I was wearing. It had a message that had many interpretations. Halley appreciated the message and engaged in a refreshing discourse. She remained focused on preparing the many drinks that were coming her way, while continuing the thoughtful conversation with me. Many times, these days, people are so short sighted and only see people in a transactional nature. Halley did not. I felt seen, respected and refreshed after our dialogue. Thanks Halley. I've given this place several tries over the last few years, mainly because it was convenient and I liked the industrial look inside. I gave up on the food a long time ago because it was overpriced and not very good, but I had hope for their drinks getting better over time. The update is that nope, they've just stayed tasting terrible and truly just tastes like milk and syrup. My worst experiences were probably when I got their London Fog iced latte and I took one sip and couldn't finish it, and today, when I took a sip of my latte and I thought I dropped a piece of straw wrapper paper in my drink, but I just sipped a bunch of coffee grounds. If you're going to spend $7-$8 on a coffee, you'll find much better options nearby (go 10 minutes further to ktown). I give it 2 stars only because the service has slightly improved (such poor service before, very unfriendly and unwelcoming) and I do like how it looks inside! read more

PRICEY PLEASURE I've driven by Paper or Plastik Cafe hundreds of times, so when a neighborhood friend wanted to meet, I suggested coming here. There was plenty of nearby street parking, and I easily found a table by the window. Once my companion I arrived, I went to the counter and ordered a Plum and Ginger Iced Tea ($4) along with a Spinach and Cheese Croissant ($6.35), which a friendly female employee offered to heat up. I was planning to use my credit card, but I couldn't find it. When I tried to pay with cash, I was surprised to learn they don't accept it. Fortunately, I had exact cash, and they accommodated me. My croissant was delicious, and my iced tea was really flavorful. Too bad they don't have refills because this is one of the best iced teas I've had. My companion had a latte ($6.75) and a Rosemary Chicken Salad ($16.75). Even though she ordered before me, it took much longer for her salad to arrive than my croissant. The hearty salad, which was a combination of little gem lettuces, shaved rainbow carrots, dried apricots, candied almonds, fresh herbs, french feta, celery, mustard vinaigrette and, of course, chicken, was so big that my friend was happy to take half of it home. We ordered our food around 1:30PM, but if we had known, we could have met at 2PM for their Happy Hour, where everything is 10% off until 4PM. Since this place is roomy and comfortable, and I could actually hear what my friend is saying, we lingered over our tasty food. Prices are $1-$2 higher than many cafes, but all in all, it was a good experience. read more

What a great place -- nice folks. Halle (sp?) was especially great. Multiroaster, with Coava, which is one of the best beans on the west coast. Excellent food. They have a rule that downstairs is for people and upstairs is people with laptops. As a laptop person I liked that -- it was nice to have this bed of conversation coming up in the place.
