Mochi Ya Ren is a convenient spot to grab dessert in the Arts District. It is one of the few dessert spots open until 9pm on a Sunday night. There is street parking nearby that is not too hard to find and secure. I parked about 5 minutes away and walked over. It is a pop-up but there seemed to be a good number of customers on a Sunday night. They had a lot of desert options from soft serve to parfaits and crepes. The inside is clean and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the choco banana strawberry crepe which comes with a matcha crepe. The crepe was a bit dense and hard to cut through but the overall flavor profile was enjoyable. Mochi Ya Ren is a good spot for dates or catching up with friends. Hopefully the pop-up establishes a permanent location. read more

I think this place is essentially the same as Matcha Ren franchise. We got the summer special: mango slush with hojicha jelly. Super refreshing on a hot day and somewhat light for what may seem like a heavy dessert. The mango slush tastes fresh and natural. They add a sea salt maybe cheese? Foam on top that was super delicious. The jelly texture is to die for, but I couldn't taste the roast hojicha flavor until halfway through the drink. The price is around $7 which is sadly pretty normal now these days. Inside has seating, such as a paper? Couch? That seems pretty run down. A newcomer to the Arts District slash Little Tokyo area. For me this would probably be the third option if the other popular places for Matcha are extremely busy. We ordered the Strawberry Matcha with a Mango Mochi. The strawberry came through pretty nice but the Matcha was a little subtle. Maybe some individuals like it like that but personally I prefer a little bit more gritty but it was still good. The Mango Mochi was decent but it was served cold and I prefer it room temp but that's just me. Oh yeah, as I found out Mango Mochi can be served chilled so there is that. Service was excellent. The guy behind the counter was extremely patient polite and was ready to answer all or any questions with a a smile. My bf had the rice crepe. And I tried the mango mont blac. Mango and rice crispies taste so good. Only place in town to try freshly made Mont Blanc. read more

This concept has a few locations throughout CA at this point. The menu specializes in matcha items among others stuff. The space itself is minimalist, but elegant with limited seating outside and inside. The location could be a bit tricky. It's located at the base of a condo or apartment complex so when I was following my GPS to the location, it brought me to the front (the actual spot is located on the backside next to a couple of other restaurants/eateries). I came in a bit on the later side and there wasn't a long line. So the place was chill and person behind the counter helped me pretty quickly. I was looking for a soft serve and this place popped up. When I got here, I felt like I had to order the Matcha Mont Blanc, which was soft serve or ice cream topped with a matcha bean paste. It's unique and eye-catching, which drew me to it, but most importantly, it was delicious and not overly sweet. Great spot to grab dessert or beverages, especially if you're into matcha. read more

Mochi Ya Ren was a nice spot to grab dessert after dinner in the Arts District. Bonus is that parking is free with their validation! It's the parking for the apartments behind Mochi Ya Ren. My friends and I enjoyed the Strawberry Mont Blanc parfait situation, though I think even just the soft serve or regular Mont Blanc will do. It's a little messy to get all the layers for the strawberry one. It was very refreshing though and I would definitely crave this for summer. My fiancée and I also got to-go matcha drinks for the next say. The blueberry matcha was great! It's flavorful without being overpowering. The banana matcha was nice as well, since they use real banana and balance out the flavor so it complements the matcha. read more

It's tucked into a storefront with a boba shop. Interesting area with live work spaces. There isn't a visible register so you order at the empty counter closest to the ice cream machines. It's delightful! Great milky flavor with smooth texture. Definitely rivals the other Hokkaido milk soft serve in LA. The black sesame was a thick sauce with a solid nutty flavor. Strawberry sauce had some small chunks of fresh berry, wonderful accompaniment to the soft serve. read more

We came here to get dessert after dinner since I love matcha. The place is combined with a tea shop in a corner. There are places to sit to eat your desserts. We got the strawberry matcha, banana matcha, Kuromitsu Kinako ice cream mochi crepe and matcha Mont Blanc. The matcha flavor was strong for all the items we got. The best one was the mochi crepe. It was not too sweet and had good brown sugar flavor. It was made fresh to order and didn't take long. Overall, I would go again to try the other mochi crepes and soft serve. read more

I always come for YiFang teas but now this spot has me on chokehold. Love that their matcha is actually strong. For those who are connoisseurs know that it is earthy but a normally earthy. If a relative from japan came to LA and wanted matcha, i'd probably take them here. The price is so good for the quality and amount you get. Bestie and i come here whenever we can and it has never failed our spoiled taste buds for matcha... At the time of writing this review, they have a 50% off promotion going on so if you're on the fence about trying this, now is the time to go! i got my mochi ice cream for less than 3$ The interior is super clean and chill. The workers are really bright and outgoing and is always down to chat. All the while sifting the matcha and prepping right in front of you! I first saw spaghetti matcha as a must try when traveling in Japan. So happy it's now available in dtla. The matcha mont blanc topping is made from bean paste and the base matcha soft serve was smooth and creamy, combined gives interesting texture. The store is a bit hidden in arts district next to Yi Fang. Great place to go if you're looking for matcha desserts. I will be back to try the delicious looking crepes and the strawberry mochi (Daifuku) in the future. read more

I LOVE THAT THEY PREP N SIFF THE MATCHA POWDER RIGHT IN FRONT OF U AS YOU ORDER. Like u can't ask for a matcha fresher than that lol. Drink was superb, tastes very grassy fresh n strong taste of it. No sleep if u drink it pure lol. We got 2 cups a sakura pink foam n a tiramisu foam latte. About $7 each cup pretty standard. Wish the cups were bigger or they give u more tho. Paid metered street parking, might be hard to find one during the day. We went at night so no issues. Mochi Ya Ren is located behind Yi Fang so they're kind of hidden unless you go in from the side door. I shared a Mont Blanc soft serve with the hubby and we both really enjoyed it. The string like topping is bean paste and made the ice cream so fun. The base is matcha soft serve, which I thought could've been a tad bit more bitter. Plenty of indoor seating available but I would recommend getting it to go or just eating outside because there were a lot of little flies inside that were annoying. Definitely will be back to try their other items, like the Hokkaido ice cream or matcha drinks! read more

So happy they opened a location in dtla! This is place served the best matcha in la hands down. It's tough finding strong matcha treats in La but the matcha here is strong and not diluted. I was super excited to try the matcha Mont Blanc, especially since I just got back from Japan and had something similar there. The Mont Blanc is made with bean paste and comes out in these fun, string-like layers placed on top of the soft serve--which I thought was really cool and different. What didn't really do it for me was the matcha soft serve. The flavor was kind of meh--not much matcha taste. I usually prefer matcha that's a little more bitter and earthy. With so many matcha spots in LA now, it's hard not to compare. The store itself is kind of hidden--it's behind Sunright Tea Studio, even though you'll see signs for it out front. One downside was that there were a lot of flies inside, which was pretty annoying and took away from the vibe of the place. I parked in Little Tokyo and walked over to the Arts District. read more

This is literally MATCHA HEAVEN! Grabbed boba tea after lunch at KBBQ and come to find out this spot shared the same space with Yi Fang! Parking: If you're lucky, there is street parking in the area. If you're unlucky like us, there are paid parking lots ranging from $5-$45 per hour. Pay via the machine and place your receipt on the dash. Ambiance/Environment: It is small inside with very limited indoor seating and a bit more outdoor seating. Very clean and modern. It's in the same building as Yi Fang! Best of both worlds! Service: They were low staffed, but each worker was quick & efficient! Shout out to Jensen for the great recommendations on our drinks & desserts! Desserts: 1) Kuromitsu Kinako ice Cream Mochi Crepe - Ugh the flavors of the kuromitsu and Kinako were out of this world! The crepe is also matcha, and it wasn't too sweet. The mochi balls were also delicious! 2) Tiramisu Matcha Latte - I love that they whisk the matcha in front of you. The matcha had the perfect amount of sweetness. Not to bitter. It was also topped off with a wafer cookie. 3) Matcha Mont Blanc Soft Serve - The matcha Mont Blanc was so satisfying to watch! They topped off the matcha soft serve with the matcha Mont Blanc in front of you, so get your camera ready! The Mont Blanc had a bean paste texture. We came for dessert after having dinner in the area, and matcha sounded like the perfect dessert! Among our group, we got the choco banana crepe, swirl matcha cone, banana matcha latte, matcha latte, and mochi. The choco banana crepe was my fav - it was sooo good. The swirl vanilla/matcha was good too but the cone was a little stale, so we were bummed we spent an extra $1 on the cone. The banana matcha latte was ok - the banana flavor was pretty artificial. The area is shared w Yi Fang and offers a few small tables. We came near the end of the day, but the workers were kind and patient w us and didn't rush us out. Overall, I'd return if we were in the area. Not my fav matcha place but not a bad option to have! read more

Saw them on IG and was intrigued by the matcha Mont Blanc so decided to check it out for dessert. Strawberry and Mango Mont Blanc parfaits (2/5): not enough ice cream, too much of the other ingredients. Matcha soft serve (2/5): ordered this because we felt like we didn't get enough ice cream, but the flavor was very mild and not that satisfying. I love that this location is in the Arts District! It was a bit hard to find parking, so I ended up parking near the apartments around the corner of Salt & Straw and walked a block to this location. I got the parfait and it was so aesthetically pleasing! The service was great bc I had asked the worker to let me know when they were going to do the stringy squeeze, and they motioned me over so I could get the video. Very clean and not crowded in the early noon! read more

I had such a fun time here! Matcha is a flavor I don't have a ton of experience with, I originally found it "dry" tasting with an earthy undertone. Mixed with the sweet strawberry and chewy mochi I was HOOKED. The staff is very kind and even when it got busy they continued to be friendly and push out orders at an inhuman pace! The space is super modern, minimalistic and there is this use of white and natural wood that almost feels "warm" if that makes sense. Love this place, will definitely be back! read more

They have two entrances, one is to the connection to the boba shop which looked alright. The matcha spot was quite a surprise to come across, we ordered various items because we couldn't decide on just one! The staff was nice and took our order, the stand out was how they prepared everything, very straight forward just to make these amazing 3 items! The Matcha soft serve was a bit much, so happy I mixed it with the milk soft serve - the crepe was delicious even an hour later when we got home and were able to enjoy! Definitely stop by while you can and you can sit in but its quite silent, might feel the need to whisper. read more

I absolutely love this spot! I love their matcha items. I got the strawberry banana choco crepe and the strawberry matcha soft serve ice cream. Both were delicious. The crepe isn't too sweet and made fresh with fresh fruits. The soft serve ice cream was full of surprises. I thought the stringy topping was ice cream but it was like matcha candy or pastry. Kind of hard to describe. The inside had like chewy mochi balls, jelly, and Frosted Flakes. It was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance is so relaxing. The also validated parking. This pop up shares location with Yi Fang. Their counter is towards the back which you won't miss. We got their Match Mont Blanc, Hokkaido Milk Mochi and Strawberry Mochi Crepe. Everything was incredible and not overly sweet. I specially loved the mochi. I think Tea Master Matcha Cafe and Green Tea Shop still takes the cake - but Mochi Ya Ren is not far behind in terms of matcha. read more

It felt flat - Everything. The only thing that we like was the corn bread. The steak was tough - some us got super rare and some got overly done tough. Some flavor combination just didn't pair well. Something with a fish dish but sour like hell. Another dish was blue and it just did not look a dish coming out of a fine dining restaurant. The Asian assitant cook brought them over and said it's Mandarin ice. But his condescending attitude is not appreciated. The night is ending and the Chef has not once come to the table to say Hi or introduced himself. People started to leave and he decided to speak to some remaining guests. Then he gets stuck with that particular guest for a long time until everyone is leaving. We probably just had like a Hi and Hello thank you for the food. He seems nice though. Then we all left. We clearly didn't even care anymore at that point. Bad food and bad experience. No parking. Good luck finding a parking on the streets on fountain and Vermont with all the homeless around. It's a hype. It's mysterious because it's really not listed as a restaurant. Not for everyone.

But that's ok. We went for the meats. They were out of the dinosaur ribs, so maybe if we go early enough next time, we can try those. We took it across the street to the park and ate and that was enough time for the small one to also play to get energy out before we headed home. What caught my eye was this apron that was a collaboration between Garden and Seeds x Lasita. It had so many pockets and it went from a short apron to a long one with just a zipper. I bought this for the sole purpose of wearing it as an accessory as Tan/Brown pairs well with black and white clothing. We all found metered parking that we had to duck out and refresh after two hours because the meters ran until midnight. Highly recommend not driving here, for parking and also for drinking reasons. The restaurant is cool and idiosyncratic enough that it got a write-up in the New York Times, with the headline "A Scrappy Pop-Up Restaurant Shuttles From Coast to Coast." It apparently started in Provincetown, Massachussetts, and wandered over to West Hollywood in 2023, opening for six months out of the year when Cape Cod slows down for the winter. Reservations are exclusively made by telephone, and payment is cash only. These quirks are minimally annoying and 100% in keeping with the intimate, small business vibe of the restaurant. The atmosphere was enchanting, cozy and welcoming, with a bit of underground supper club energy. I kind of like that you can't find this place on Resy. Service was excellent. I didn't get our waiter's name, but it really felt like he was hosting us. It helped that he gave us meatballs on the house and topped off our wine when we were running low, full pours that he left off our bill. The wine was lovely, a Chianti that went well with everything. The food was delicious, starting with the complimentary focaccia, served with seasoned olive oil for dipping. The bread proved useful with our appetizers, both the shrimp scampi and our free meatballs. The shrimp scampi was snappy and flavorful, swimming in a rich sauce with garlic, lemon, and capers, an extra slice of bread on the side. The meatballs were just right, savory and tender, made with veal, pork, and beef in a pomodoro sauce. We ordered two of the three salads on the menu and I'd highly recommend them both. The endive citrus was bright and zesty, with mixed greens, pistachio, fennel, feta, and orange. Sal's caesar was bold and satisfying, with romaine, shaved cauliflower, panko, and pecorino. We passed on the entrees in favor of getting three pastas, each of them essential to our dinner. The lobster alla vodka was an ideal seafood pasta, al dente linguine with lobster, peas, and basil in a great vodka sauce. I felt similarly about the shrimp puttanesca, linguine with plump shrimp, roasted red peppers, anchovy, and olive. The winner, though, was the pappardelle with oxtail ragu, which was one of the night's specials. A transcendent meat sauce pasta, with supple pappardelle, a mouthwatering ragu, and plenty of thin-shaved salty cheese on top. If this is available, order it. Heck, order two, just to be safe. We shared tiramisu for dessert, and it came with a candle for my birthday. It was a stellar tiramisu, and felt like the right way to end a bountiful Italian meal. I know my husband would enjoy Sal's Place and am already scheming to go back. I want to get another dinner in before it heads east for the summer.

The strawberry matcha einspanner was also yummy and had a great presentation The space is pretty small but there are a few seats available. The line was around 20 minutes long on a Saturday afternoon. Like most spots in ktown, the parking lot is limited and you'll likely need to find street parking, but it is definitely worth the hype!

Upon entering the place is clean, sleek, and modern. We were greeted right away. I already knew I was leaving with 2 drinks for the drive back home. I ordered: 1. Cold brew vanilla: Delicious, I love that tou can see the vanilla cream on top. This was definitely what I needed to wake me up. 2. Matcha einspener: I tasted this and immediately loved it when leaving the store. I saved it for last. It was so light and refreshing. I could easily drink it all day if they had a bigger size lol. I was hoping to try the seasonal mango cream matcha, but sadly it was gone. 3. Pastries: I wanted to try the sampler but I don't thinking they had it yet. I tried one of the cinnamon pastries. It was soft and very cinnamony. Overall, it was a great experience and I'll be back soon.
