I've been enjoying Salt & Straw since my then girlfriend (now wife) visited their Oregon location. From their high quality ingredients to their unique flavors, it's always a treat to sample flavors before choosing scoops to purchase. This last time I opted for the split scoop waffle cone. For the top I chose the Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge and the bottom, the Bananas Foster with Candied Pecans. It was delicious! Such intense flavors! The favorite of the two was definitely the Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge. If you're a peanut butter lover, this is the one for you! They also have some pretty awesome merch to purchase as well and the Tacolate collaboration with Taco Bell is a must the next time I go. They also had Tacolate sauce pack keychains to purchase too! Service was also great as the person was extremely patient as the family was sampling their wide array of options. The kids were loving every moment too! Will be heading back soon for another treat! This is the third Salt & Straw location I've visited here in SoCal (Pasadena and Anaheim being the other two I've visited so far) It's an excellent location. I had a waffle cone with two flavors (you can do half and half or two full portions. I went with the two full portions: double folded vanilla and hazelnut cookies & cream). The vanilla is the winner in the taste test but the hazelnut cookies and creme was also good. They also have limited edition flavors, take-home pints, cute souvenirs, and they even let you taste test flavors with a small metal spoon that they give you with your flavor of chocie,choice, committing to buying said flavor. 10/10 system and 10/10 ice cream shop. read more

Awesome ice cream spot with a wide variety of flavors. They always have rotating limited edition flavors (seasonal) in addition to the classic flavors. Some of these flavors are very interesting and unique, like the Pear and Blue Cheese flavor. I tend to stick with my favorites, which are Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Hazelnut Cookies and Cream. Their ice cream is very rich, creamy, and high quality. The staff are very friendly and patient here. They let you taste samples of as many flavors as you would like. I always end up getting the double scoop to share with my husband because it is a way better value than just getting a single scoop. Also, you might be craving for more if you only get one ice cream scoop. I always see this location looking busy with a line of people. Luckily the line moves quickly. It is pretty cool that they even sell pints of ice cream, which you can grab from their fridge. The only thing I dislike about this place is that it is difficult to find parking. There is street parking that is usually already full, but unfortunately no designated parking lot. If parking was easier to find, I would definitely be visiting more often. read more

Visited here on a Friday evening & it was moderately busy. This specific spot is very spacious compared to other Salt & Straws, clean interior is always a plus. Love that they have a little merchandise store with some benches inside & some open tables outside. Parking here can be a bit tough though. Either parking on the curb which can be hard due to how packed the Art District can get. The alternate is to park in paid lots that can range from $4 - $15+ Staff here is great, my wife and I wanted to try plenty of ice cream flavors and they were really accommodating & friendly. We decided on a double scoop on a cup. Our two flavors combined were Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough & Hazelnut Cookies & Cream. Scoop sizes are pretty big and pretty overflowing for the cups. It would be perfect if the cups were just a bit bigger to hold the scoops. Although it's a bit sweet, it was the perfect dessert after a meal. Overall, great spot for ice cream, can't go wrong with any flavors as all the flavors are delicious. I'd been to different S&S locations but this was the first time I've been to this one which was in DTLA Arts District. After dining in nearby Afuri, I decided to have ice cream for dessert. This location was a lot bigger than others. There were two people helping customers so line went fast. There was a bench inside and a lot more seats outside. Every time I go to S&S, I always go for their seasonal items. I tried two of these seasonal items and knew I wanted them right away. I got a scoop each of these two flavors: Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie. Lemon chess pie pieces folded into cultured frozen yogurt, sweetened with wildflower honey and topped with lemon curd. Coconut Cherry Pie with Almond Crust. A rich coconut cream base blended with sour cherry filling and bits of almond shortbread crust. There was only one person ahead of me, so I got to order pretty quickly, which was a big plus. The staff was super friendly, patient, and even let me sample a couple of flavors before deciding. As a product of its environment, the interior of the shop also had an industrial and minimal vibe to it; very well kempt and clean, nothing else to say about it. It was a weekday afternoon, so there wasn't really a line present. The employees were also nice enough; guess I was lucky that George wasn't there, according to the other reviews After a couple samples, I decided to go with their "Coffee & Love Nuts" and their "Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough" flavors. $8.95 felt fair for a double scoop, given the quality and taste of the ice cream. From their website: Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - "House-made cookie dough with thick malted fudge in a salted ice cream." I'm not actually a big fan of cookie dough flavored ice creams, but the slight saltiness added a level of depth and nuance to the richness of the scoop that I deeply appreciated. It was still extremely rich given the fudge in the middle, but that saltiness was absolutely necessary. Coffee and Love Nuts - "Smooth, caramel-y coffee ice cream studded with pecans caramelized in Tahitian vanilla, sprinkled with sea salt, then coated in 14 layers of chocolate." My personal favorite flavor as of yet. Although I hate coffee, I'm huge on coffee-flavored desserts and this was no exception. Again, the sea salt was a game changer to contrast the creaminess of the ice cream. I'm also a fan of a spectrum of textures in my food, so I felt like the bold and crunchy pecans were the MVP here. All in all, it was a phenomenal first experience for me personally. DTLA parking is lowkey buns unfortunately, but aside from that, making the pilgrimage out for S&S was completely worth it. read more

We were in the area and looking for an ice cream spot on this really hot day.  The majority of the places nearby were vegan ice cream spots.  We needed something that kind of catered to both.  This place is a little hard to find but when we went there was plenty of street parking nearby and parking garages.        From the outside, it didn't look like much, but when walking in this place was huge.   It didn't really have much seating area on the inside but had seating areas outside that it shared with neighboring stores.  They had random stuff for sale, but in its own way, it was warm and inviting.  It was minimally decorated.  You walk further in, and you'll see the menu.  I was greeted right away and he was really nice.   I felt that at times, we weren't understanding each other, but it's whatever.   The ice cream hit the spot.   We ordered: 1.  Chocolate Gooey Brownie - This is for the chocolate lover in you.  The gooey chunks of brownie just has you smackin' 2.  Coffee & Love Nuts - I was churros to see if this would be similar to a jamoca almond fudge, but this was way better.  The chocolate covered pecans were a nice twist.  It was nice pick me up with the fresh waffle cone. 3.  Peanut butter brittle caramel fudge - This was super peanut buttery. You can't taste the coconut water, which I was scared of. It tasted like a regular ice cream with bits of brittle.      This was a great location, and I'll definitely be back soon.   The guy working there told me they are definitely busier at night.  I'm glad I came and beat the crowd. read more
