My husband said that he will have to take a different route out of the way of this place to keep himself from over eating these things. This was our second time at this mochi donut shop. We loved it both times. We tried the matcha and strawberry cheesecake. We came at the end of the night and there were only a few flavors yet. Its a casual, order over the counter type of service but they are really quick as they have the mochinuts already on display. Since there are a lot of options, they won't rush you to pick which is what I appreciated. You can definitely taste the mochi thats in the doughnuts. 3.5 stars I had to see what all the hoopla was about. Donuts made with rice flour and uniquely shaped with eight dough balls connected forming a circle. Definitely a trendy place, based on their long line. You can order ahead online, line up in person or order at a kiosk in the shop. In addition to the donuts, they have hot dogs, soft serve ice cream and bubble tea. The donuts were just okay. A little expensive if you ask me. It comes out to be about $3 a donut. Their chewy texture is interesting, but I prefer the fluffier traditional donut. They do have all sorts of interesting and visually appealing flavors. I stopped in the day after they opened (a Monday at 630 PM) and the wait was only about 30 minutes. I got a six-pack and a brown sugar boba. The boba was fine, nothing phenomenal but certainly not bad. I wish there was more brown sugar syrup. The boba themselves were perfectly chewy. The donuts though, WOW. I never understood the mochi donut craze but now I'm SO glad I tried them. Are they worth a 2+ hour wait like on their opening day? No, but definitely worth 30 mins. Mochi (rice-based) makes them so light and fluffy while still having that nice crunch on the outside with a soft interior. The toppings were packed with flavor and my personal fave was the Cookies & Cream. Service was pretty good but could have been quicker, I feel like with a line out the door you should move with a sense of purpose. I know they've only been open two days though and are still adjusting to such a high demand. What a perfect treat after a meal at Mongolian Grill. I got the cookies and cream, and cheesecake donuts. They are pricey little guys but totally worth it. The cheesecake one was SO good. Honestly tasted exactly like you would imagine, a cheesecake and a donut combined but mochinut style. The line was moving fairly quickly today. I decided to get an assortment of items to share with the family (because Im just that nice). A dozen donuts will set you back $30. So be warned. But these are not your typical heavy donuts. They are light and airy. And the different toppings are fun and look done well. They have a variety of Korean corn dogs as well. I got an assortment of the 1/2 hot dog and 1/2 mozzarella. My fav is the hot Cheeto coated one. However, definitely needs some kind of dipping sauce. The corndogs are around $5 each. Based on the outside, I was skeptical about the inside of Mochinut. Once I entered, there was a kiosk to order. The line to choose your mochi donut was a bit cramped and upon my arrival there wasn't too much to choose from. I did wait awhile and thankfully they came out with some fresh ones. I did try the taro flavored mochi donut and it reminded me of a Filipino dessert called carioca. The difference is the glaze on them. There's also different options of rice hot dogs and boba drinks. I'm from Buffalo but had to stop by Rochester to pick up a friend. So you can imagine my excitement that I was finally going to be in town to try Korean corn dogs for the first time ever! (Buffalo doesn't have any restaurants currently). Food wise, it was pretty good. The batter was sweet and the cheese was melted perfectly and gave the perfect cheese pull. The hot dog part was meh but I'm biased cause I usually only like Sahlens. The service was okay, I got waited on pretty quick so some kudos there. What I cannot let go or accept is the bathrooms were disgusting. I can only speak for the women's room, but one toilet was out of order and the other had feces all over it, along with bugs crawling all around the seat, it looked like it was left for a long time, maybe days? I ran out of there so fast. After seeing that, it made me concerned about the quality of the food so I made sure to inspect it as best I could given I already paid for it at the time of experiencing this I am sorry, I really would like to have given this a better review, but the cleanliness is a big concern. Tried the original hot dog and a sesame, matcha, and ube donuts. The hot dogs used are very fatty/oily, paired with the rice flour breading that just soaks up the fry oil, it was very unpleasant and over saturated with oil. A leaner hot dog or at least something acidic, like mustard, to cut the greasiness, is needed. I'll preference my review by saying I have had several mochi donuts from a variety of places outside of NYS. Similarly to the hot dog, the donuts are too oily for me. Additionally, the glazes on top are too sweet and lack flavor. The sesame flavor was the strongest of the three. There was a slight matcha taste, and the ube was even more faint. The consistency is decent; any other mochi donuts I have had have had a little more chew to them. They're cute, but the additional sugary toppings are overkill. I stopped by around 3pm on a weekday and got in and out in about 5 minutes. Not much ambiance and just some bench seating while you wait; definitely just a carry out place. read more

We finally got a mochi donut place here in Rochester and it's wonderful! I remember having these donuts for the first time from Mitsuwa in Edgewater, NJ and I've always prayed Rochester would open one. Upon entering, the ordering process was a bit confusing. Luckily, a kind person informed me in order to order, you just go directly up to the counter. You first tell them the total number of donuts you'd like, then select the ones your heart desires. The process to order the donuts/check-out was fairly quick. What differentiates mochi donuts from regular donuts is the fact they're light, chewy and have a very soft texture. The frosting is also very light and not overly sweet. These are decorated beautifully and taste delicious. I quickly realized why there was such a quantity of people waiting inside the shop. I wanted to try their hotdogs which is basically a corndog but with a unique exterior. I ordered a single one, and the wait for this was approximately 25 minutes. I found this rather odd and besides the long wait, I personally didn't find the hotdog enjoyable. I'd gladly return for the donuts and donuts alone. read more

Such a great addition to Rochester! This Mochinut is located inside of the Seafood Harbor restaurant! These donuts are made fresh and hot and are replenished very quickly! We got the Vietnamese coffee and strawberry funnel cake and they were both amazing! I love the texture the rice brings to these donuts. I waited it out, and there was no line when I went. I got 6 donuts for 3 of us to share. There ended up being some on the other side that I didn't see, so that was unfortunate. I wanted a cheesecake one. I'm apparently in the minority here, but these donuts taste a lot like fried dough, and while that's good, I really don't like the taste of the toppings on it. I just don't want frosting on that type of dough. Since they're so pretty, I didn't get an "original " flavor one, because it wasn't a pretty as the others. Knowing what I know now, that probably would have been my favorite one. Of the six I got, the Taro one ended up being my favorite. It is nice how you can cut them and pull off little circles of each one easily. They're good to share. I really don't think I'll be back. $18 for 6 donuts is a lot, and I didn't love any of them. 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4 as we do not have many options in Rochester. I did come during the initial opening craze (drove past several times trying to go but line was always out the door). They actually only take up a corner of the restaurant area that they have overtaken. We waited about 45 minutes (again, this was the second week of opening so I do believe things should be better now). Everything looks beautiful in the case. Do keep in mind that these are mochi donuts so they are a higher price than you would expect for a regular donut (about $3.50 per donut). There are many different options and flavors. Tried both a few mochi donuts as well as a half and half hot cheeto korean corn dog. While I do normally love bubble tea, I did see that besides the Instagram worthy can packaging, it seemed to be pre-mixed in gallon jugs and did not seem very appealing so did skip that/probably would not recommend it over a dedicated bubble tea shop. Mochi donuts - 5/5. Tried matcha, black sesame and Vietnamese coffee flavored donuts (they did not have ube that day disappointingly). All were beautiful and delicious. The donuts themselves were fluffy, chewy, and light and not too sweet. The flavors of all of them were great - especially the strong Vietnamese coffee one! I do love that. Korean corn dog - 3/5. They were prepared sitting in a little window when I got mine. I did get a nice cheese pull, but I felt that the batter was way too thick and greasy (felt sick afterwards). They were also different sizes which also speaks to the inconsistencies with the batter. I think it's worth a try and some people may enjoy it, but I probably would stick to the donuts. I waited in line from 1:15 on the grand opening day. I'm leaving room for the service due to this being the 1st day. Which is always overwhelming and exciting . All the food was delicious ! However , the communication was not the best. The person behind me asked about corn dogs and they said no . Yet the person after them did and they said yes ... I only had the option to pick from 3 different flavors due to slow replenishing of flavors .They also made my drink a completely different flavor 3 times till they got it right. It seems if they needed more time to to get situated before opening. And maybe a few more hands to help cook. I think as this spot goes on they will get a hang of everything . I was one of the early visitors to Mochinut right after the D&C review. I arrived at 10:30 on the off chance that the posted 11:30 opening might be wrong and I could head off the certain expected throngs. I thought, "What donut shop opens at lunchtime?" Ironically the door was wide open, but in fact the opening time was correct. I plopped down with a casual glance from an employee who popped out for a second and waited the hour and ended up being first in a line of about 50 people for this hot spot of the moment. The donuts are delightful - a great light chewy texture unique to mochi flour. The frostings and glazes are not as sweet as one might think, while the fruit flavors actually taste fruity. Are they worth an hour wait? I would say no. Worth a special trip? Yes, try them. With a second location being teased in the area and the novelty inevitably wearing off at some point (Krispy Kreme anyone?) it may be a non-issue. The dogs were heavy and oily and well - tempura corn dogs basically. I found them disappointing. Mine had gobs of uncooked batter which didn't help. My family and I came with our babies and waited inside while my hubby stood in-line, the line moved very quickly and the staff was really helpful, nice and polite. I love that they used a section of seafood harbor and made it so cute and fun! Donuts are so lite and sweet! They're not overly sweet or greasy, the rice dogs! Our first visit was really good. It's a bit of a wait for the corn dogs,so I'd recommend ordering ahead if you can. They had a really large selection of donuts with new batches and flavors rolling out every few minutes. The corn dogs were great and fried very well. So as the rest of the entire Rochester population waits in line for these latest addition to the Rochester food scene, I question who waits in line for hours for a fancy donut. Well, the answer to that philosophical question is my wife. After checking out the prices and our bank account, we decided that our limit was 3 plus two drinks. The wait for the hotdogs was 45 min. Now don't get me wrong, I am willing to wait for some things but wrapped hots dogs is not one of them. I thought that crazy prices at Cruble cookies were outrageous but MochiNut takes the well Nut. They are tasty and break apart like Monkey bread but at 3 bucks plus per piece this will be like going to Texas de Brazil a once in a while place to celebrate something special, like Retirement....My guess is they brought in this store to help save the place that was there Seafood Harbor as I never saw any cars in the lot....until MochiNut opened up. Bomb.com!!! Moved here from LA so was so excited to hear they were opening a location right down the street from me. Got 6 donuts, two drinks and the rice hotdogs. Never had the rice hotdogs before and they were delicious- different and surprising texture, unlike a corn dog. The texture of the of the donut is so chewy and good. Much more like a desert than a "donut". They have creative flavors like taro, ube, matcha along with more traditional flavors Went on the second day, the wait was long and then the wait for the rice hotdogs took longer.
