Mochi donuts! I've been to their other location and tried many mochi donuts. Theirs is good when they are fresh! We came around opening and there wasn't much left, but the girl was making some new glazed and churro ones. So we got those plus an ube one. The fresh ones were delicious, the ube one tasted a little stale and couldn't taste the ube topping. Cute space. Would come back for more. It's quite pricey but with like any fancy donut place it's on par with pricing, 3 for $10. One thing that bothered me was the bill. They auto put 15% gratuity, there's no option for "no gratuity" so you have to put custom and put 0%. First time coming to this location, it looked so dead. Was confused if they had any drinks. The drinks too a while and when we tasted the ube milk tea. It was a big disappointment. It didn't taste that great...you can tell that they used powder and artificial sweetener. I would not go back to this place for drinks but donut was okay. I have come to this location a couple of times in the past year, and my experience has always been positive. The lines move quick (if there are any lines), and the donuts are very fresh. They are even good for the next day! There are sometimes seasonal donuts, but my favorite is always the churro donut, which is not too sweet or sugary. So we had our first taste of mochi donuts in San Francisco and loved it. We were excited to see this place open up nearby and couldn't wait to try it. After reading some of the reviews we were a little hesitant of trying it because of complaints of some being stale but we still took a gander going in the AM. The place was clean and nobody was there so we were quickly served. Friendly staff assisted us as we opted for sampling all 6 that was displayed (strawberry, churro, cookies and cream, strawberry funnel, caramel and original)..all for $18. Been (im)patiently waiting for this to open... Parking can be tricky at peak lunch and dinner times but mostly it's great. Once you're in, the vibe is great. They have a little spot to take pics in front of a grass backdrop! Seating area was plenty too! The 3 flavors we tried were cookies and cream, strawberry and glazed. Each tasted great with the glazed being my favorite. The strawberry one was still good but it seemed like it was missing something. I hate having to write a 2 star review but sadly it was needed this time. Just went in and purchased some mochi balls (been to other mochinuts before) and they did not have them at those locations so was very excited to try them.... Also we wanted to try some of the ice cream and they didn't have original or the honey butter (what a bummer) so we took our order to go and went home. Here is where the really bad news comes... the mochi balls seemed old and were no where near the same texture or consistency of the doughnuts and we got both originals and crème brûlée and the cream in the original was curdled so we couldn't eat them and the crème brûlée didn't have the crispy sugar topping that you see in the images in the shop. It's amazing how employees can make or break a business. Went there with a coupon from Clipp Magazine that had purchased and the girl working that day wouldn't accept it and was kind of rude. Tried again a few weeks later, the gentleman working that day knew exactly what it was and had no issues. Got the shrimp egg rolls and a donut. Egg rolls were amazing with a lot of shrimp and the donut was very good as well. I spent 3 weeks bad mouthing them because of that first employee. I got the honey butter ice cream in a cone and it was so delicious and light, already craving another one. I also got a half/half Korean corn dog and it was sooo good and crispy! Came in at 12:30pm. All of the donuts looked old and stale. The guy behind the counter seemed irritated and annoyed by us coming in? Despite this rude attitude we ordered a "Delight" (soft serve with 1 mochi donut) for $7.54. However, the ube soft serve was SOUR (when we eventually went back in to return the bad product the employee even agreed that the machine needs to be washed.) I am Asian. I know what ube tastes like. THAT is not what it tastes like. On top of that, the mochi donut was nothing but dry and bland. Poor service, poor quality, and expired tasting products. My boys are so so sooooo happy Mochinut moved in closer to Escondido. We used to travel alll the way down to Poway to get our mochi fix. Ordering online is a sinch and it makes for a quick drive by dessert fix. The place is clean and they are open late so we will be coming back again very soon. I believe the flavors change but our favorite has been the cinnamon one. I am so thankful dessert places like these are moving in. Now I don't have to travel all the way down to San Diego. read more
