I love this donut shop and give them 5 stars for the quality of their donuts! However, my only complaint is that many of the times when I come in, they are sold out of most everything already. They recommend you call ahead in advance to place an order, so it's not great for someone casually wanting to grab donuts on a whim on their way to something or on a lazy weekend, for example. I went in at 10 AM on a Friday and they had pretty much nothing left, just a handful of donut holes and simple glazed donuts. Service is great, always very friendly. Shop is simple inside, not really meant for hanging out in to eat your donut afterwards, just for picking up. read more

Yelp reviews can be deceiving . Second time here looking for great donuts. Went here based on yelp reviews and was disappointed. On the old fashioned donut it may look like chocolate but wow barely tasted like chocolate. Went for the duck donuts and other cool stuff in the review pictures and was sorely disappointed. This is one time Yelp let us down. We were hoping for fresh, interesting donuts, and Crispy Donuts seemed like it would fit the bill. Unfortunately, it did not. We tried a few different options, including glazed, chocolate old-fashioned, and donut holes, but all tasted like they had been sitting out for a while. The glazed and the donut holes were rubbery, and the old-fashioned fell short on chocolate flavor. Service was fine, but nothing special, and that was my overall opinion of the place. read more

So sad to post this. This has been our go to when in San Marcos but now we'll think twice before coming back. I went to purchase a dozen donuts. Waited in line, it was moving fairly quickly. I pick out my dozen and go to pay. The line behind me was backing up so I get my money out to pay quickly. I pay with cash because it's a family owned business and I thought I was doing a good thing to reduce their credit card fees. I have my $20 bill in my hand and the girl behind the counter looks at me and tells me the donuts are $20. Hmmm. That's a suspiciously nice round number. We've been coming here for years. YEARS. And I've never felt ripped off. Dozen donuts start at $15.50. The donuts weren't specialty ones. I didn't ask because the line was super long. Now I don't want to go back. And if of my family members do, we'll watch the receipt more closely. Real bummer. read more

Walked in, only wanted a coffee. Approached counter, the two women at the counter both pivoted away from me and started to help the other "two" girls picking donuts for the one family (one person behind them). Now 4 picking donuts. I used to visit a different Crispy's location near SDSU many years ago and fell in love with their donuts, especially the buttermilk bar. I held that as the standard by which all others are measured. When I discovered this location near my new home, of course I had to try it. I have no idea if this location is related to my old favorite or if they simply share a name. In any case, the donuts were only OK. The selection was severely limited and we were told that they had a power outage the night before so they were unable to make as many donuts as they normally do before they open. Fine. But they did have buttermilk bars and cronuts but sadly neither were as amazing as I've had elsewhere. They were overly greasy... like damp with grease. I got 60+ donuts for my team and I had 3 for myself: French crueller, Chocolate Cronut, Classic Sugar Donut. I was pleasantly surprised! The dough was light, and soft, and fluffy; none of them overwhelmingly sweet. It also didn't taste too processed or greasy. I tried to save them for the next day but couldn't resist. Saw the reviews and decided to try it out. I'm very particular when it comes to donuts. And I use a plain glazed as a reference point. They need to be not too greasy or grossly sweet. They should be fluffy and light- like you're biting into a fluffy cloud (if that could be possible). Their glazed is perfection. And just because, I decided to try a few others. Custard filled- EXCELLENT. Cronuts- TO DIE FOR. Chocolate glazed- AMAZING. Also got donut holes... who doesn't love donut holes?!! It's a great indicator when there's 10 people waiting in line. Saw one of the workers give each of the kids in a family a free donut hole each. These little things make it a place where someone would want to come back. Prices are very reasonable. Donuts are just okay, a little on the greasy side. Used to love this place and eating here many many times, but it seems like it's become way overrated and a humongous ripoff. I've seen other people post similarly. I got five donuts and two small milks and it came to $15. I asked for a receipt and the clerk went to the back and just got a credit card receipt for the total, not all the items she was punching in to a little manual register. Claudia is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. I came here while out of town for a funeral; woke up first so I ubered here to surprise my bf with breakfast when he woke up. But.... i forgot my fn wallet (it was in the hotel room, just not in my purse).. These are some of the best donuts on the San Marcos....actually in North County. I stick to San Marcos/Escondido area for donuts, but Crispy's really is a treat. These donuts might be some of the fluffiest that you can find. Even the next day they were still super soft. They have a really good variety of donuts readily made. Our favorites are the chocolate, crumb, maple and cinnamon rolls. All the donuts we had were delicious. They even have some tasty looking cronuts too, but I still have not had those yet, Depending on the time you show up there is ususally a short line, unless its that price 8-9am hour on the weekends. They are quick and friendly, with some space inside with some tables to chow down your donut. The store is in an older shopping center of Rancho Santa Fe, but that doesn't really matter since the donuts are A-grade. We come in from the opposite side of San Marcos, and they are worth spending the extra gas to get these fluffy donuts. read more

My daughter and I love coming to this place. Not only it's close to my work but it's popular too in the neighborhood. Nov 5th was a National Donut Day and I decided to buy a dozen assorted donuts to share with my daughter and my work, a cream cheese muffin for me and a Cronut for my daughter's teacher. All of their items that I've eaten always tasted delicious. The only disappointment that you'll ever experience is when they run out of something. You have to time it right of when to go. I totally agree with the other reviews how the staff are super friendly. It gets busy at times but they are super fast in helping all of the customers. Did you know that they sometimes sell Tamales?
