This place is so good that on our vacation we made the 15 minute trek here every single day. Their coffee combos are unique (praline and marshmallow? Lavender and raspberry?) and absolutely delicious. We tried different ones each day and couldn't find fault with any of them. If you want a snack, that have weird combos for kolache-like pastries too. The Good Morning Sunshine was a pineapple upside down pastry that we split and then automatically regretted because it was so good we wanted more. The inside is cozy, but the outdoor seating is where it's at. They have tons of red tables under a giant awning covered with gorgeous ivy. I'd sit out here and work and never have a care in the world. (It's also great for people watching!) Their coffee cups for sale ($12) day "for the love of community and coffee" on the back so we picked some up so we could bring a little magic from this coffeehouse home with us. read more

I love cute coffee shops and this was a real treat to find in Galveston. I got a good cappuccino and we sat in the upstairs loft that overlooks the bottom floor. Upstairs, they have a couch and reading / game nook, but sadly it appears patrons have made off with a lot of the game pieces. I'm not sure they had a full set of anything up there. But there were plenty of books to flip through and, most importantly, outlets to charge your devices. Score! read more

We found this gem while visiting Galveston. There is a wonderful shaded patio out in front of the shop, but it was full so we sat inside. There is a nice, calm ambience inside MOD and although there were many people coming and going our visit was very relaxing. The drink menu is extensive and there are several different baked treats in a case as well. Husband ordered a cold brew coffee and I ordered the bottomless iced tea. There was a flavored green tea (cherry something) and a regular black tea for me to choose from. The iced tea was self-serve so I had a glass of each and they were really good. I asked if the crispy treats were GF and the server was very knowledgeable about the kitchen they were prepared in which I really appreciated. We really enjoyed our visit to MOD and will definitely be back on our next trip to Galveston! read more

The specialty lattes here are great if a little on the sweet side. I recommend "El Diablo" or the "Grasshopper." If you're feeling adventurous, maybe give the "Just Trust Me" a try as it's a secret blend but it tends to be sweeter than most. As for desserts, definitely give the lavender lemon cookies a try. They're the best I've ever had! Overall, the atmosphere is cozy and quaint -- totally meshing with the historic aesthetic of The Strand. It's a great place to sit and unwind with friends and -- weather permitting -- the outdoor seating provides a nice breeze on the scenic street. Now, the reason why this isn't a 5-star review is because I came here with my mom today and she ordered the vegan zucchini bread with her coffee but didn't get it. When she asked one of the workers for her dessert, receipt in hand, he said he'd get it for her but then went on to help other customers. No biggie. The barista then asked if she needed anything when he saw that she was waiting around, she responded about the zucchini bread, and the worker said to her from behind the barista's back, "Are you STILL asking about the zucchini bread???" The zucchini bread was great but could've done without the attitude thrown at my mom. So, the other reviews don't lie: The employees are VERY hit or miss. The barista was very chill but that other worker was pretty snotty. Guess he was too preoccupied with humming the Jurassic Park theme song to take two steps to the left and grab something that had already been paid for. Anyway, another thing to note is that the coffee is never really hot at this coffee shop. It's very warm, sure, but for some reason it's not hot -- like it's been sitting for a while even though the barista just handed it to you. Also, the black coffee is basically water. The variety of the specialty lattes and the atmosphere are the only draw for me. read more

Very cute and cozy coffee shop with an Instagram-worthy outdoor seating area. They're taking all the precautions such as wearing mask and 6 feet apart during the pandemic. I like their great selection of both hot and iced coffee. I had the Iced Grasshopper Latte. It's minty and not overly sweet. The shop is located in a bustling area with great restaurants and shops nearby at walking distance. Finding street parking could be a bit of a challenge during peak hours. read more

The girl at the cash register with the blue astros hat was completely rude and talking badly about me and my order as I waited. We wanted an iced flat white (which we have gotten at MOD before and multiple other coffee shops). She told me this was "impossible" and could not be made. She then proceeded to talk badly about the person who made our order the day before (iced flat white) in front of customers. All she had to do was make a flat white and pour it over ice instead of insulting us and people that work there. We come to MOD every day we are in Galveston over the years and this is our first bad experience. It's sad one bad experience can change your outlook completely. read more

This is a little treasure in Galveston that I never knew existed. I got their early for some coffee and a seat outside with then intention of finishing a book I was close to completing. Parking isn't always the best, but it's not a reflection of the coffee shop! The staff here are patient, chill and sweet. I met the owner and she's a very kind, sweet, soft spoken individual. Coffee, you can get very cheap refills, tons of options for snacks ranging from brownies, to chips all the way down to sandwiches. The London Fog is my favorite!!! So delicious. There are tonsss of places to sit, but sometimes seating inside can be full. THATS HOW AMAZING THIS PLACE IS. Never met a rude person here yet! Age range is so mixed. I even brought my grandmother here and she felt at home. College students, business professionals, and the retired crowd- all amazing. Sit and have coffee or do work. Either way you'll be fine. My family was visiting Galveston this past weekend and we had read about MOD coffeehouse as a lovely place to get coffee. We ordered 4 coffees/teas and noticed that they were out of raw sugar. I asked the barista for a couple of packets. Without making any effort to find me some or refill the container she informed me that they were all out. I was disappointed but accepted her answer. Realizing I had missed ordering a hot chocolate for my daughter, I came back into the store, placed my order and waited for it to be made.  One of the ladies (white) who had an order before mine received her tea and asked for raw sugar stating that the container for sugar was empty. "Magically" the staff was able to produce 5 more packets for her. At this I was super upset and informed the barista that her discrimination was unacceptable since she had just lied to me that they were all out of raw sugar.  If you are a person of color like me, don't waste your time at this establishment. Their coffee might be good but their biased attitude still stinks! read more

This place is my go-to for coffee on the island! It's situated near the strand, and is in a great cozy location. Parking can be challenging at times but if you look hard enough you can find a spot somewhere not too far. The shop definitely has an artsy hipster feel to it. As you walk in you will notice a spacious and welcoming interior. They have a second room that has artwork from local artists on the wall along with couches and tables that are conducive for studying. There is also a second floor area that has a small meeting room that you can reserve, and a few couches. The baristas here are all nice and friendly, and service is fast! I think they use Katz coffee, which is Houston based and has a good local reputation.They offer a lot of specialty lattes, teas, and espressos on the menu; the ones I've had were all good. My favorites here are: The grasshopper (minty-ish espresso), the London fog (Black tea with half and hald and vanilla syrup) or just be adventurous with "Just trust me" and they'll make a random drink for you! They also have sandwiches and other lunch items on the menu, and yeah don't miss out on the pastries! Overall if you're into great local coffee shops, MOD should be on your "to try" list in Galveston! read more

Burnt coffee taste with absolute no flavor. Got the "Caramel Dream" was supposed to be a combination of caramel and vanilla. Coffee had no caramel or vanilla flavor at all, and tasted like burnt coffee beans with milk and the whipped cream was a $1 up charge. But my drink came out in less than a minute so maybe it wasn't made right? Who knows, should've went to Starbucks since it's the same price anyways. read more

This is a great local coffee shop, I really enjoyed the 2 specialty lattes we got as well as the carrot cake whoopie pie cookie The lattes we tried were the almond joy and the honey bee- we both preferred the honey bee because it was the perfect amount of sweet! Mod is located near the Strand and I always love getting a iced coffee after a long day shopping and walking around that area. I typically order an iced Milky Way and get their delicious Peanut Butter Bar. Everyone that works their is nice and always have a lot of energy. The ambiance is also really cool and relaxed. We came here on the monday of memorial day weekend. Grateful they were open and just loved the vibes. We found street parking and were able to find a comfortable spot outside. MOD is great coffee and a beautiful coffee house, but what we really appreciate is how serious they take COVID-19. They go above and beyond to keep a safe and clean restaurant. The coffee is great and they have many options, including oat milk which is a plus for me. My husband also really enjoys their smoothies. They don't currently have indoor dining but that's just fine because their outdoor seating is on a beautiful street filled with plants and trees that create a lot of shade. MOD is an adorable coffeehouse in historic downtown Galveston. I loved the atmosphere (especially the outdoor dining) but the lattes were a bit too milky for my preference. Perhaps I should have tried an extra shot of espresso? Regardless, we visited twice during our Galveston stay and tried the Almond Joy, the Squirrel, Holly, and French Vanilla lattes. They were all good but not fantastic. My husband really enjoyed the flavor of the plain ol' house blend. I recommend trying it for yourself! read more

I travel a lot for work and as much as I can for fun, and I always look for the local coffee shop where the locals hang out. Some are still up and coming struggling to find their personality, while others are looking to grow into the next big shinny franchise; but sometimes you hit the jackpot and you find one like MOD that has found its sweet spot. Experienced enough to run like a well-oiled machine, well-known enough to have deep roots in the local community, with a unique voice and personality, but most importantly a lot of heart. I was only in Galveston for one night and I hit this place up 4 times. Regardless of the shift, all baristas were super friendly and welcoming. Cute, little coffee shop nestled in Galveston's historic downtown. Love coming here to study! There's typically a lot of other people studying here too so it can get crowded quickly, especially on the weekends. And since it's located downtown, there's a good wave of tourists coming through every so often, but that's mostly during the summer. The lattes are unique and the baristas are always friendly. My fav specialty lattes are the honey bee & squirrel. I've recently had the hummingbird and it's not for me - very raspberry forward. Their cold brew is good! This place is pretty high on my list for best coffee shops in the states. It's got everything... A nice awning for people who like the sun and nature, a neat upstairs section to chill and or study, a second room for studying, good coffee, really good signature espresso drinks, and friendly service. It's got a cool vibe, but doesn't seem to take itself quite as seriously as a lot of the ultra-cool "espresso bar" type coffee shops that are popping up everywhere. It's not so cool that you can't be comfortable. The counter/barista cave is tucked away into the wall and the elevated chill space comes up over the side of it creating a nice alcove for the baristas to do their thing in. They played good (non invasive) music when I was there, which is something not to be overlooked in a coffee shop. I will without a doubt come here every time I'm in Galveston, really one of the best coffee shops I've been too, and I've been to a lot. Don't miss this place. My guy and I were staying at The Tremont House and I searched for a coffee shop near us. Found this sweet little gem within walking distance and we were both impressed. He's a regular coffee kind of guy but I like to try things. The Holly: toffee nut, vanilla, cinnamon sugar. Oh sweet heavens this was delicious. Even he tasted it and liked it. I got a bacon cheddar croissant, which was perfect, and we decided to sit outside under the trees to people watch and enjoy the ambiance while we drank our delicious coffees. A perfect fit for a tourist town. Everything is mediocre, but since their customers are out-towners and won't be back, no problem. Blueberry muffins were dry, coffee was a bland roast that would be at home in a Mr. Coffee, and indifferent service rounds out the experience. Outdoor seating is the highlight. read more
