The steak was a perfect medium rare. The eggs were over medium to a T, simply amazing. The breakfast potatoes were soft yet firm with delicious little crispy bits hidden throughout. My wife's Crabmeat Omelette was good. The crabmeat wasn't overly fishy and the omelette was fluffy. It just needed something extra to take it over the top, like fresh green onions or chives. Cute café that's much larger on the inside than it appears. We went around 7 a.m. and didn't have to wait, but I've driven by later in the morning and seen long lines, so it seems to be a popular spot. The waffle was good and fluffy--not too thick or too thin. The scrambled eggs were slightly overcooked but still tasty, and the bacon had the perfect amount of flavor and crispness. I wasn't a fan of the vanilla latte, as it was much too sweet for my taste, and the regular coffee was just okay--it lacked the bold flavor or kick I was hoping for. Others at my table ordered the steak and eggs and the migas, and both cleaned their plates, which is always a good sign. We had arrived in Galveston late the night before, and had no food in the house. So we decided to go out for breakfast first before hitting the grocery store. The reviews looked good, so we decided to try the Sunflower Bakery. We only had to wait a few minutes before being seated, which was good. I ordered the Belgian waffle with berries, and my boyfriend got the "little breakfast". OMG, the Belgian waffle with berries was to die for! It's a beautifully sweet waffle topped with Chantilly cream, blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries. The fruit was plump and delicious, and the chantilly cream was out of this world! It comes accompanied with 100% pure maple syrup, and you can tell. I am generally a slow eater, always ending well after my boyfriend, but not this morning! I scarfed that breakfast down! He loved his eggs and breakfast as well. After paying our bill, we stopped at the bakery at the rear of the restaurant. There are lots of great Takeaway options, and we bought a piece of their pecan pie that was dipped in chocolate. To be honest, the pie on its own would've been fabulous, the chocolate just put it over the top! Came in on the weekend with a family of 10 for vacation. Service to get seated with slow, but once we were at our table, our food came out quickly. We got French toast, migas, shrimp plate, and the big breakfast. Everything was delicious warm and a big portions. We definitely come again. The ONLY reason I'm writing this review is because I also ordered a cinnamon roll.... AND HAVE MERCY! That cinnamon roll is ARGUABLY the great cinnamon roll I've ever had in my entire life. There was some kind of seed or something in it (I still don't know what it was )and I originally I was like "what in the world is this" but I ate it and it added to the flavors so well. It was warm and mushy throughout, the frosting was PERFECTLY dispersed and it tasted absolutely incredible. The portion was massive too so it's great to share. A short drive from Houston. This place was very welcoming from the beginning. Although it looks like a long wait, do not be fooled. It's pretty big and spacious both indoor and outdoor. Plenty of street parking as well as some private parking. Has 2 big indoor seating area and a well sized patio area. Isabella was our server and she was very nice and quick. The place was clean and friendly. Tables gets cleaned pretty quick and servers are always checking on you. However allowing you to enjoy your food with no interruptions. For drinks we went for lavender latte which was delicious and huge serving. Hot coco was not our favorite, tasted a bit powder. Food went for migas, huevos rancheros, big breakfast and waffle. Everything was yummy. Beans were a well smooth yummy texture. Potatoes were soft and seasoned. Waffle was the perfect crisp. Overall we will be returning, great service and yummy food. read more

Went here on a Saturday brunch and the wait time was 30mins for a party of two and the parking was a pickle but despite all the hardships, the Sunflower bakery and cafe lived up to its name. My order: French toast Huevos Rancheros There were breakfast specials and I wanted the blueberry crepe but I believe the portion sizes are small so I got the French toasts. They came in three numbers and they were amazing , soft and warm. It was a little dry and a dollop of butter and maple syrup does the trick and it was appetizing!! The highlight was the huevos rancheros, it came with eggs on top of a cornbread and it was the something I haven't tried before. The beans were meh but the potato's, eggs along with the cornbread made it great. Also tried their Florida based OJ and black coffee. Service was great. This is one of our favorite spots when in town! It's a favorite spot for so many! Always full and wait time usually goes faster than the time given. Feel free to order your coffee before you sit. The corned beef hash was absolutely packed with flavor--perfectly seasoned with such a great balance of crispy and tender textures in every bite. It's easily one of the most balanced and flavorful versions of corned beef hash that I've ever had. The shrimp omelette was just as good, with layers of flavor that really stood out. The tricky part of making sure the shrimp were not overcooked was a success. It was hearty and filling without feeling too heavy, and the ingredients tasted fresh and well-prepared. Everything was fresh and delicious, I had the berry pancake with maple syrup (I asked them to warm it for me), I also had something called the little breakfast plate and the appetizer with the 3 different fresh bakery items (croissant, blueberry muffins and a buttermilk biscuit with strawberry butter). Oh. My. God. The buttermilk biscuits. The best biscuits I've had in my life. They're dense yet somehow still light and fluffy. Absolutely incredible. We ordered some to go the next day and unfortunately they were cold. I don't mean room temp, I mean cold. Still good, but a bit disappointing. The French toast was ok, it's quite a lot. The scrambled eggs were good, it does come with green onions on top. The sausage was quite good, also some of the best I've had. The potatoes were good as well. There's a bakery on one side and a coffee shop on the other. The chocolate dipped pecan pie was strange. It really just tasted like chocolate. Not a whole lot of pecans either, mostly just the soft filling. There was homeless people clearly on drugs pestering patrons outside, but there's not much they can do about that. I stopped by here earlier today with my family for lunch. We were on the beach for the morning and looking for a place to eat when I found the Sunflower Bakery and Cafe. This restaurant has both a brunch and lunch menu along with weekly specials. The inside of the restaurant has a couple of different areas, but the section we sat in had a warm, inviting feel with a wood plank ceiling, exposed metal air ducts, and a mix of framed artwork and track lighting that gave the space a cozy charm. Beyond the dining area, there's also a traditional bakery counter where our whole family loaded up on treats for later. For lunch, I went with the smoked duck hash while my wife ordered the corn cakes. I almost chose the green chile pork with eggs since that also sounded delicious. The menu described my dish as house-smoked duck tossed with bell peppers, poblano peppers, onions, and potatoes, topped with two poached eggs and chipotle hollandaise, and served with toast, butter, and jam. My meal ended up being absolutely delicious. You could definitely taste the smoke on the duck, which had a ton of flavor. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and when cut into, they added a nice richness that tied the whole dish together. The poblano peppers and chipotle hollandaise gave just the right amount of spice, which I thoroughly enjoyed. They did forget the toast, but honestly, I didn't mind since my meal was one of the better ones I've had lately. If I had only one critique, it would be that the fat on the duck could have been rendered a little better on a few pieces. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Parking took a bit as they are located in a busy area. Once inside we noticed it was much bigger than we expected. Definitely very clean and you could smell the onsite bakery. The staff were very friendly. Now the food. Lots of options for breakfast. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles and my wife ordered the Challah Bread French Toast. I didn't get a picture but the French Toast was Great!!! My Chicken and Waffles tasted good but the waffle definitely needed more time on the waffle maker. It was pale and soft. I must admit that I was surprised he chose this place. There was a fairly sizable lunch crowd when we entered. Peeking at the lunch menu, my eyes landed on the house salad. You should've seen my face when our waiter brought it to me. It was quite massive being a salad and all. Multiple rings of French fried onions made themselves comfy on the bed of romaine lettuce. I even discovered two fried goat cheese balls in the mix, and they immediately emerged as the stars of the show since they were so tasty. Going back to the size of the salad, I wasn't able to finish it. Still, I recommend it to anyone who eats here but is paying close attention to their calorie count. Towards the back of the dining area is the bakery, which has a lot of items that I'm sure would satisfy many a sweet tooth.
