I ordered the MOD pizza which is one regular 11" pizza and a long time ago I ordered the "mega" because I thought it will be a bigger pizza so I could share with more people but it was just a 11" pizza with an extra crust. I always add my own toppings to the pizzas instead of going for the ones that are on their menu. MOD has a large selection of toppings. They have basic toppings such as pepperoni, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, olives and other toppings such as sardines, cauliflower, roasted garlic, and sometimes they even have brussel sprouts. They also have shakes, alcohol, garlic or cinnamon strips and a "no name" cake. The food is extremely affordable, concept is fun and quick, employees are friendly and the pizzas are tasty. read more

Walked by many times, tonight we decided to check out MOD Pizza. "What's Your MOD?" The concept here is that you can choose one of their Classic pizzas or you can build your own. There are three sizes: mini 6" for $5.47, mod 11" for $8.47 and mega (double crust) for $11.47. Whether you choose a Classic or build your own, you can add and/or choose as many toppings you want and it would be the same price. They have many choices in sauces, cheeses, meats, vegetables and finishing glazes/sauces. Similar to Chipotle, you start building your pizza from the crust as the workers starts adding your toppings as you proceed down the counter. In about ten minutes your pizza is ready. The pizzas were pretty good. I liked that you can add as many toppings as you want. The crust is little on the thin side and wished it was a little thicker. Now I am curious as to how thick is the double crust "mega" pizza. I'm glad I checked out MOD and thought it was pretty good. Especially since it only costs $8.47 for an 11" pie. Go MEGA or go home! First time coming here and I decided to get the Mega pizza. Which is the classic 11" pizza, only it has double the crust. I only had three toppings on mine; cheese, sauce and pepperoni, but it was delicious! The pizza was super fresh and piping hot when we got our food. (Took about 5 minutes after we placed our order). The crust was crispy and everything was just right. My fiancé got a bacon and pineapple mini pizza which was also quite good. I would definitely recommend getting the double crust though unless you like your pizza extra thin. One complaint I would make is that it seemed like the employees were pretty new there and didn't seem to have everything figured out. I am really surprised to write this, because every experience I have had has been a good experience. Maybe this was just an "off" today. Nothing went right and I was there for almost 25 minutes waiting for a small pizza and salad. I want to stress that the employees were very cordial, but they seemed distracted and kept making mistakes, and were wandering around really slowly. Not the experience I expected or had previously experienced. I am not sure I will go back. It would be for a variety of reasons, but I think establishments need to realize that every day is a day that you might be giving a first impression. Get it together. Stay alert and look like you care about what you are doing. It will carry over to whatever you do after you leave Mod Pizza. And I can guarantee that if you cannot be your best at Mod Pizza, chances are you will will not be your best at another job. Just sayin. Every job is an opportunity to be a good employee and make sure the customer is happy. I was in the service industry for many years and it served me well for my future. My husband ordered through Door Dash, when my pizza showed up it was missing half of the ingredients. We called and explained the situation to to the help line and a new order was placed. Upon arriving to the store, I explained the situation to the gentleman behind the finish touches counter and he pulled up the order and started making the pizza. He offered a refreshment, which I appreciate but turned down. At the end he showed me the complete pizza, and it was a world of a difference! Love the staff here, they're always happy to help. Don't be afraid to ask for more toppings if they don't fill the pizza all the way. I was disappointed with my experience here. The 2 stars is for the fact that the food was decent and the price was very reasonable. The reason for the low rating is because: 1. None of the tables were clean and no one wiped any down during the 1 hour plus we were there. I wiped down my own table. 2. They ran out of disposable utensils at 5pm. 3. The soda area was not clean. No one checked to clean, replenish cups, other items. The container for the cups was not clean. 4. None of the garage bins were emptied, especially the one by the soda area, which was overflowing. 5. Staff had a mask on but two of the had their entire nose exposed. Makes me wonder what goes into my food if they are not careful with masks. They also kept touching their masks, then the preparation tools, etc. There were 5 people on staff, very small stream of customers and they were chatting and not checking on the place. The seevice was ok, but staff didnt know where things were when asked. The bathroom was also out of toilet paper and not very clean. I love pizza! I've noticed this location only recently even though its been at South Shore about a year now, I've had Blaze and Pie-ology and both are decent in a pinch. I am particularly not a fan of chain or commercial restaurants but it can be hard to avoid such places when out shopping with family, it's always affordable. I don't frequent any of those places too often but MOD can be the exception, they have great fresh ingredients, they offer chicken sausage and not just dry chicken breast as a white meat option. The flavors mesh well together, all parts of these pizzas are good - delicious sauce doesn't overpower the thin crust and no matter how many veggie toppings I get the price stays the same and most importantly the bottom does not get soggy! I love that they offer fresh basil, garlic oil, multiple types of peppers and ricotta. I will add that the first time I went one of my bell peppers had a small piece of the sticker on it which I pointed out to the guy who packed it up for me and he apologized profusely and offered to replace it, since the sticker isn't poison I just pointed it out to him and told him it didn't need to be replaced and he still gave me the next pizza on the house. I'm a fan of fresh sugar free and cane-sugar drinks (especially tea), I love that they offer delicious fruity flavors of house-made tea and lemonade. I've finally found a "build-your-own" place that I love (other than the fro-yo store), my sisters have such differing tastes that sharing one big pizza never works for us, MOD is now where we go when in the mood for pizza. read more

MOD Pizza hovers around a 3.5 for me, but I will round up its Yelp rating to 4 stars. In terms of taste, I would actually make the trek to Pieology in Berkeley for better tasting customizable pizza. The overall atmosphere of MOD felt quite chaotic, maybe because there are more families dining here? When ordering, there are 10 classic MOD pizzas to choose from or you can create your own. I decided to try their "Caspian" which is essentially a bbq chicken pizza although I omitted the gorgonzola cheese. I added some bell peppers and roasted garlic. Thinking back, I feel like MOD pizza should revise their ordering system to include a paper check off list where customers can hand off their order instead of telling the employees what they want. I mention this because there was a slight confusion when I got my pizza because for some reason, my pizza was for "Nancy". Everything was straightened out in the end, but I felt like the employees are not that organized and are rushing through their orders. As mentioned earlier, the taste is not on par with Pieology. The Caspian was way too sweet with the bbq sauce and I felt that MOD pizza was not as generous with their toppings compared to Pieology. The crust is also a bit too thin. This is a late review. I've come here a couple times with my partner for lunch and the pizza and service is always good. My partner and is co-worker frequent it a couple of times per week and Krystal always greets them with a "Hi Nancy and Hi Al" and already knows what their going to order. Of course this is a customize your pizza and salad place so she just hovers over the ingredients until we pick our toppings. You'd think that a customized pizza will take too long for a quick lunch but it's ready in no time. I visit this location from time to time with my family for the convenience of the location and we like the build your own pizza option when dining out. The service has always left a LOT to be desired, but our most recent visit this weekend took the cake. As mentioned the service is always subpar, but it seemed that on Saturday night two of the women working were in incredibly bad moods, didn't want to be at work, or simply could care less about their jobs-it's clear that there certainly not interested in keeping them with the behavior that they exhibited. While in line waiting to order, one of the employees either recognized me from a previous visit (that's the only reason I would presume that she looked frustrated/upset) or she was unhappy that there were a number of people in line because there was a lot of unnecessary eye rolling, unwarranted attitude, and obvious exasperation. When it was my turn to order, a different woman took over the line and asked what I was ordering. I told her the Isaac and that I would be adding to it, the other pizza was a build your own. She began hastily making the Isaac in an absolute fury customers without much care and listening to what I needed and when I began telling her the items that I wanted to add to it she began sighing heavily, rolling her eyes, and asked me with a lot of attitude 'what else I wanted to add'. I then asked her if my adding to the pizza was an issue because she was so rushed and she seemed to fall back in line pretty quickly. She then began doing something else and the aforementioned young lady began working on the build your own pizza but quickly became irritated when she realized that there were instructions other than the red sauce and very LOUDLY with bass and annoyance in her voice asked what kind of cheese we wanted. After that exchange a gentleman took over in making the rest of the pizza and (thankfully) didn't exhibit any of the behaviors of his colleagues. While we were waiting for the pizzas to cook and after we had paid, while the loud woman who was maddened about the cheese was re-stocking the toppings station (she wasn't wearing gloves) she proceeded to pull out her cellphone and had a full conversation while doing so. I can only assume that perhaps they were close to getting off from work, though the store wasn't scheduled to close for another few hours and perhaps that's why there was a rush to make the pizzas and they were frustrated at customers continuing to come in. But, as mentioned I've encountered subpar service from the individuals before so perhaps that's just there daily work ethic. It certainly seems to be the common thread on Yelp. As if the service from the two women wasn't bad enough, the guy (a different gentleman then the one that finished making our order) that boxed our food barely called us over, proceeded to forget to offer to add the sauce dollops, basil and vinaigrette that goes on the Isaac after it has been cooked. When I asked him about it, HE also had an attitude about being asked to do his job. Clearly, I don't intend to make any additional visits to this restaurant location even if it is super convenient. Unless another location is somehow better in terms of food and service, I probably won't be making anymore visits overall. read more

Fast, great tasting, and a solid addition to the other chain restaurants of South Shore Center, MOD pizza is the subway of pizza chains. You can pretty much have it your way. The mod pizza is an 11 inch thin pizza crust that gets baked extremely fast in an extremely hot oven. Just like pieology and blaze pizza, you get to pick what toppings you want on your pizza for no extra charge. The 11 inch pizza is about 8 bucks and for what you get, it's a pretty good value if you're trying to just get a pizza for one (or maybe even two) For just opening up this week, this location has super friendly employees, and i could definitely see myself being a regular here. They also offer a number of pizzas on the menu if you don't feel like picking and choosing your toppings. We've been to several different type of BYO pizza places (pieology, blaze, pizza 900, etc) and this is definitely one of the top ones we've been to. One plus is that they have different sizes you can choose from! Something you don't normally see at these type of pizza joints. I ordered the Lucy Sunshine which comes with garlic, mozzarella, artichokes, & red sauce dollops. I added chicken for extra protein! My fiancé got the mad dog which I believe a standard meat pizza and he added spinach on top. While we did order pizza that's right off their menu, you totally have the option to build your own. The pizzas were hot and crispy and the cheese was gooey! The service was awesome and it was pretty quick! If you've never experience personalized pizza this is the place. There are a few other chains but I think this one is the best. Mod can produce a decent salad whereas the others are pretty much just pizza. Love the "Caramelized Pear Iced Tea"... you have have to use your imagination to taste the pear part but it does have a mild fruity after taste. I'm a fan of the "MOD Pizza Salad" but it can be improved. They take an Asiago crust with cheese on it and heat it up. You pick your salad options and meats and they put that on top after the crust is warm. The only problem is that they don't heat any of the meats up because it's in the salad already. Chicken and Salami taste great cold but certain meats like the sausage and ground beef don't taste good cold with congealed fat. read more

While waiting for the pizza, I observed a total of 8 employees working at this location. All employees were wearing gloves while handling food except for one female. The female worked at various positions but at one point, started handling the cooking of the pizza. Occasionally, while reaching for the pizza, I can see her using her BARE HANDS to touch various pizzas to see if they were either cooked, or to remove foreign material from the oven. This is absolutely disgusting! There is no reason to handle food in that way, in plain view in front of other customers! I used to live near a Blaze pizza and always do a build your own. So sad that I had to move and didn't live close by one anymore. I was excited to find out that MOD pizza had a similar method like Blaze. They offer a lot of toppings for you to choose from. I also like that they have different pizza sizes too because blaze only offers one size and sometimes I don't want to eat that much pizza. It's located in the south shore plaza and I always go around the other shops around there as well or go grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and Safeway. Quick, easy, healthy, and like their philosophy states, you get what you want on the pizzas! I live right next door so ordering and pick up is a cinch. The ingredients taste fresh, and the toppings are just the right amount---plenty like I like it, but not so much that it gets too soggy. First off as a fast food pizza place it is very good and you should check it out. I have had this debate with many people. Pieology, blaze, or Mod. I have to say blaze has a special spot in my heart but its the furthest from work and home so it shows i must not love it that much more. The gluten free crust is not good at Mod, but for the other pies it is comparable to the other two. Really love the flavor of this place, once we found the pizza combo we all liked. However, once we got our pizza and the crust was burnt on all of them (black and crunchy on bottom), every other time we keep getting raw, gummy, undercooked pizza dough. The first time it happened I called, and one of the managers (Josh? John?) was really nice about it, apologized and said they would make up for the 3 undercooked pizzas on our next visit. He wouldn't collect my name, he said to just mention his name. Well we went back in to get the replacement pizzas and they wouldn't honor them.
