This *used* to be my favorite spot to go on Tuesdays before $5 movie night at the Alameda Cineplex. This past Tues. (11/27) around 6:30 I went to grab some pizza with my dude, and the person putting the sauce on the pizza wiped her nose on her glove and proceeded to make pizzas before taking our order. She did not change or gloves or anything and made eye contact with us as she did it. Unfortunately, this is not the first time something like this has happened while eating here. I get the feeling that it's not the cleanest place to be eating. Previously, an employee took a bucket to refill the cheese, but put the bottom of the bucket into one of the other (full) food containers that were still being used to add toppings to pizza. The service is typically hit or miss. I had an amazing interaction with a woman wearing an All That hat. She was the reason I kept coming back. The dude working the register is cool, too. But this same employee who wiped her nose has given me trouble in the past. I was tying to ask someone about an ingredient they forgot on my pizza, but she was too busy chatting it up with her friend who came in and ignored me when I tried to get her attention. I made eye contact with another employee and tried to get her attention, but she said she was on break and kept eating the toppings out of the container, as well as a pizza that came out burnt. The last 3 times I have gone, they have forgotten toppings on every one of my orders, and I usually order from the set menu. Cleanliness: 1/5 (surprised I haven't been ill yet) Service: 3/5 (depending on when you go) Pizzas: 4/5 (when toppings aren't forgotten) TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE ALLERGIES: be very VERY careful about eating here. Mod pizza is the regular make your own pizza place with unlimited toppings for a set prize and you can build something monstrous with it. Let's be honest. Is pizza. Pizza is great but too much of one thing gets boring, fast. So what keeps me coming back over and over to this place os how friendly and respectful everyone is. They are top class when talking to the customers and answering questions. Always greeting everyone and creating a wonderful atmosphere. Tatiana specifically has always been extremely helpful and kind to me at all times. She even managed to remember my name after like the second visit. Is always a sign of relief when I see her at the front since she knows how to make a good pizza. The place is clean and tidy. Always cleaning their hands and trying their best to keep the flour that always creates a mess on check. If you need something fast, delicious and for a good prize I would be happy to always recommend this specific mod. I really love this place. But today my expectations were set a little higher. Brinson was amazing. I often have to ask for toppings to be evenly distributed so I get some of everything in every bite. My girlfriend and I love coming to the Mod Pizza in Alameda at the South Shore Center. We always get greeted by friendly staff and have never been disappointed with the quality of the pizza or staff. We usually come in Tuesday's since it's $2 beer day. I was a little bummed about the $2 cup shrinking from 16oz to 12oz but it's still a great deal and has my girlfriend and I coming in about 2 times a month. My girlfriend is vegan and gluten free so the restaurant works out perfectly for us and her allergies.  I went to a newer location in Portland, OR a couple months ago and the pizza wasn't nearly as good as what I've always gotten in Alameda. The pizza had much less toppings. I know I could have asked for more and more of everything but I am not going to bother.  Come try Mod if you haven't, you won't be disappointed! read more

I asked them for more as they don't seem to do a good job of spreading the sauce or cheese so there is a lot of empty space with the crust only. There is only one person watching the oven so you will get some will burnt crust if not watching carefully. As to the taste, meh. I prefer Pieology. This place is my pizza savior. My husband gets horrible heartburn and can't handle red sauce, pepperoni, or pineapple-- a few of my favorite things. As a result, we rarely indulge in pizza. Enter MOD. Not only is it inexpensive, it's also insanely delicious. Bear in mind this is coming from an East Coaster. They probably have the closest to a true crispy New York crust that I've tried 'round these parts. I've seen some reviews that it's the "Subway" or "Chipotle" of pizza. I think that's way oversimplified for a couple of reasons. Both of those places charge extra for premium toppings or multiple meats; MOD does not, you really can get ANYTHING for one price. They also have by far the largest variety of topping I've seen at any pizza place or fast food place. And there you have it. I could barely drag my pizza-averse husband in the door (especially with 5 Guys calling his name next door). Once he tried the pizza, he thought it was great. In fact, he couldn't stop raving about it all night-- "that pizza was AMAZING!" Oh, and EXTRA stars for service. The staff is super patient and nice. We ordered no drinks, and saw the amazing house-made lemonade and iced tea after we cashed out. We went back to pay for drinks and they gave them free. So yeah, this place is my JAM. Just left this place! And, let me tell you! The food, and service has greatly diminished since my last visit 8 months ago. I had the Dominic's pizza, and it was absolutely DISGUSTING. The Dominics has white sauce, mild sausage, asiago and cheese. Well, the crust on the pizza was burnt, they barely put any white sauce, but what they did put on, tasted like canned alfredo sauce, the asiago was wilted, and molded, and just plain gross. Needless to say, I WON'T be patronizing this place anytime soon. This, the food is comparable to a pizza in the frozen section of Safeway. I had high hopes for this place after having it been a recommendation from a friend and reading the description online. But... the only novelty seems to be that you can get the largest size (which is only the same as the medium size but is just a double crust) for one price, no matter what toppings or how much of them you want. (there are some restrictions as a pizza wont cook or takes too long with too much so there are limits). I got the "tyler", which was okay but I didnt like the BBQ sauce.
