I've had MOD in three states over 2-3 dozen times and this was by far the worst experience. It started off when we were trying to order and there was a gaggle if 4 employees directly behind the employee trying to take our order talking loudly about nothing. The music was loud and so we were screaming our order at her and she still couldn't understand us. It didn't help that she clearly has not gone through whatever the corporate training there is on how to take orders. We were trying to tell her that we were building our own three pizzas and she kept asking us what all we wanted for our toppings and kept messing up which pizza it was supposed to go on. When we finally did get down the line my favorite topping, the roasted garlic was raw. Not roasted, not in oil, just straight off the clove. So, we go up to pay and get drinks from the cooler and they were all hot. Not even warm, hot. If the door is unlocked, you're open! During the times where all restaurants are fighting for sales, it would be nice to be greeted versus yelled at upon entering that "WE'RE CLOSED"! It was in very poor taste and unappreciated! It was 8:28, your sign said 8:30. When I told the guy that, he says oh well, we can help you! He didn't change his gloves or wash his hands! We opted on leaving! When everyone is talking about hand washing, why would I want someone pissed off making my food that has questionable hygiene practices? Truly awful experience. The first person taking our order was SO rude and unhelpful. They offer two "gluten-friendly" crust options. One was cauliflower, and I asked what the base was for the other option (corn, nut, rice, etc). She stared me down and told me I can read a full ingredients list on the website. If she didn't know, she should have asked one of the other 10 people working the front. When I said I would let my husband order first so I could look, she rolled her eyes, slammed a new pizza pan on the counter, and asked for his order in a raised voice. He asked if she was ok, and she completely ignored him. We were nothing but kind to her, so this attitude was completely unwarranted. We get our pizzas, and mine is BLACK and hard as a rock. I could eat a little of the center and did. After eating most of the first piece, I noticed that my pizza was only sliced into four pieces. So I took it back and asked if they could slice more of it. He was very nice and apologized for forgetting to slice it. But he could barely slice into it even with a pizza slicer. It was so hard and burned. Definitely won't be back. Horrendous service. The best cauliflower crust I've ever tried. However, it's higher in calories than their standard crust, so it's not as healthy as you might assume. So the next day when I came back for a encore I had the regular crust instead. I also experimented with a different combo of toppings and both visits were good. On my second visit I also went from a small to a medium Caesar salad as I really enjoyed it. Among build-to-order pizza competitors their offerings are decent, with a slight edge on the variety of toppings. They also have some neat lemonade flavors available. The atmosphere is modern, although the overwhelming hard surfaces make for a noisy echo chamber and the seating is not comfortable. Dawsonville has added many retailers and restaurants since I first visited this place north of my hometown. Initially there was only the outlet mall and a few grocery stores, but there have been more places opening in recent years. 2 large shopping centers with many dining options just south of the outlets are the latest additions, one containing MOD Pizza. If you've been to a create-your-own pizza place and enjoyed it, you would feel comfortable here. There are plenty of options if you're not feeling creative; I got a mad dog pizza and enjoyed the meaty treat. I came hungry for a late lunch and left full after having an 11 inch pizza. To our pleasant surprise, this place is one of the best pizzas we've had and we've been craving it - thinking about it every day to the point where we're making the 40 min drive to come back in a few days. Pizza was more of a thin crispy crust with fresh ingredients you can pick from a bar (like a poke bar or sub place feel) and baked in an open pizza oven. Metropolitan style pizza created in a Subway style model. The people preparing our two pizzas struggled with what each one of us wanted and they did not know what type of beers they had on draft. Love the concept, and the pizzas are great in my opinion. Not the end all, be all per se as I have no one favorite pizza but I keep this place in rotation (is that bad I have pizza restaurants in rotation?). So far, we haven't had any issues with poor service or incorrect pizzas and this is our 4th trip to this location. The only thing that's been aggravating are the people who have someone in the party claim their seat while the rest of the party stands in line for 15 minutes. First pizza made completely wrong. Second pizza was dropped on the floor when it was going from the oven to the guy who was cutting it. The third pizza was also made completely wrong again with items I am allergic to. And then they offered to make a 4th pizza but my party already finished eating. The catch is, I ordered a standard pizza off the menu. The guy cutting the pizza handled everything completely right. He apologized profusely. The manager was like "Oh, sorry. Did you get the free personal pizza coupon?" I informed her that there isn't a Mod's near me. She said "Oh. Do you want me to refund your order?" Duh, yes! I didn't get a pizza did I? An excellent operating plan but poorly executed. I could not get an answer if the lemonade was from real lemons (like CFA). I was told to look up the website. There were no napkins or Parmesan cheese packets in the cabinet. I was not provided beverage cups though I paid for them and paid 18% tip (for basically selfservice .. it should be 5%). So you can go thru the line and pick your toppings to make your individual 11" pizza and or salad or they have premade options. They have a great selection if your just wanting a salad and are staying away from those carbs. Spring mix or romaine. They keep it classy but avoiding the iceberg. Since Dawsonville already has 3 other options for pizza, this one really needed to stand out as different. And it does. I went to a MOD pizza in Denver and it was great. Saw this one and my wife and I had to try it. The concept is fun, the choices are awesome, the pizza was great. For me, the cost is good value. You can load up your pizza for the same price and get a lot of very good food for about $8. That said, we went just before 6 on a Friday night. Had lunch there yesterday. Heard about MOD pizza but never been to one and did not know what to expect. A real great experience, like a Chipotle, but with pizzas! You order, see you pizza being made down the line and go I to the oven and there it is. I had the Jasper MOD size and a mini Ceasar salad. Delicious! The lemonades ate great too.
