Well hellllo New York style pizza in the middle of downtown Dahlonega! Three of us split a pepperoni pizza for $16 and it was a perfect amount. The pizza was hot and fresh. The service wasn't bad nor good- it was typical college town meh. They have comfortable booths and outside dining if you bring your furbaby. Hangryness and a short wait made it easy for our group to settle on having dinner here. I'd say the food was a hit, but the service is lacking on all fronts. The spinach and artichoke dip was very good (I could have eaten two bowls of that!), and the side versions of the Caesar salad and Salad of the Seasons were filling and tasty. The pizzas were very good too, with a crispy buttery crust. However, the service needs work. Admittedly, it was busy, but several servers walked by several times without acknowledging us at the check in stand; a simple "Someone will be with you shortly" would have been nice. At the table, service misses included no utensils, and then only bringing two sets until we asked for more. Then, one of the pizzas we ordered was wrong, and all we got was a "Sorry" without any offer to correct it. Another outstanding meal at Gustavo's Dahlonega! Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed the delicious cuisine there. We had the large everything pizza. It was super delicious, and we devoured it quickly. I have eaten at Gustavo's many times, and I am never disappointed with the outstanding quality pizzas, calzones and Stromboli's. Well, unfortunately my family and I didn't have a good first time experience. We walked into the restaurant around 12pm on a Saturday. At the time there was only 1 other table seated, so we thought, "This should be a quick lunch!" Our waiter had not come to our table for quite a while. A waitress finally came up and asked if someone had come to our table yet, which we said, "No, not yet." She apologized and then wrote down our drink and food orders as we had two little kids with us and was somewhat in a rush. She went to the back to give the orders to our waitress and then our waitress came out with our drinks. She apologized as well which was very nice and appreciated. Here's where things slowly started going wrong. We ordered a margarita pizza, a kids size cheese pizza, a calzone and some meatballs. We received the calzone and meatballs fairly quick, but it took a little over 50 minutes for the margarita pizza to come out. About 10 minutes later our waitress comes out and says that she never rang in the cheese pizza, so it was never made. She did ask if we still wanted it which we said "Not a problem. It happens. Sure." Thankfully our kids could eat the margarita pizza, so we just gave them pieces of that. To be honest, the pizza sauce was ver bland. Now before someone says, "Ya, you ordered a margarita pizza. It's supposed to be light in flavor.", we also had the meatballs AND a calzone which both also came with sauce. We all tried each others and said the same thing. It just lacked flavor. It didn't taste bad, there was just nothing special our delicious about it. We all ate our food because we were hungry. Our drinks had been low for a while. I ended up asking a different waitress if we could get refills as we didn't see our waitress that much. Our waitress comes out from the back and says that they just ran out of carbonation, so they can't make any sodas right now. I ask for a lemonade--the lemonade is flat and just tastes like water. It ends up taking a little over 40 minutes for them to make the kid's cheese pizza. My wife and the kids ended up going outside to walk around while my father and I waited for the pizza because everyone was done eating. The owner ended up coming over and apologizing for our experience and she took the cheese pizza off our bill which was very nice and appreciated. Now, this could have totally been a one off experience that we had, but it just left a bad taste in our mouth for the next time we're in Dahlonega. We didn't understand why it took SO LONG for our pizzas to get made and come out when there was hardly that many people in the restaurant the entire 2 hours that we were there. We happened upon this place by accident, intending to go someplace else nearby and didn't notice at first. It was a quiet Tuesday night, hardly anyone there, so we didn't have to wait for service. Our server was nice and polite and the place is cute. I'll bet it gets busier on weekends. There's not much to the menu and it's a little bit pricey but the food was good, although not something I would really rave about or plan to have again. Messy atmosphere, strange service, and mediocre food. Avoid this place if you're in town and looking for culinary gold! The atmosphere is messy and unkept. Wait staff had on a variety of clothing that looked as if management didn't care what they wore to work. Wait staff were friendly but not confident in menu offerings and spoke poorly of some of the selections. While I appreciated the honesty, it was a turn off that some selections "weren't that good." Pizza has a thin, cracker crust and the marinara / pizza sauce was unusually sweet. The garlic rolls were pretty good, but the dough was also very sweet. However, this is where it got strange... two of us ordered the French Dip sandwich. I asked to add jalapeños and was told no modifications can be made to the sandwiches. We were told that the chef was a "big deal" and refused to make mods to his sandwiches. Uhhhhhh - ok... I asked if I could get jalapeños on the side and add them myself - and all of a sudden they were 86 jalapeños. Weird since jalapeños came on several of the menu items. No worries things happen. Sandwiches were pressed and the beef was tender. Bread was crispy and warm - but nothing special about it. I expected something a little more after hearing the chef was a "big deal." There was a lot of onions on the sandwich that wasn't disclosed on the menu. I wish I had known since they hurt my stomach.. Pasta salad was SUPER bland. Tasted like unseasoned pasta with a couple of pieces of mozzarella and grape tomatoes. I left disappointed. read more

Don't expect good service if you sit at the bar. Me and two friends came in for dinner hungry after spending the day hiking some trails. We sat ourselves at the bar where we weren't even acknowledged for at least 5 minutes, felt like even longer. We placed our drink orders and ordered a pizza, a French dip sandwich, and the mozzarella "logs" as an appetizer. One thing I've noticed over the years, typically when you sit at the bar you expect faster service and usually the food will come out quicker - not here. After placing our order and waiting around for what felt like too long I started wondering where our food was. Meanwhile i noticed parties that had sat and ordered after us were getting their food. There was booth behind us that ordered after we did and I noticed their appetizer came out almost right away. Every time I saw a server coming from the kitchen with some Mozzarella logs I got excited only to see her walk to another table. It was like some sort of sick joke lol. At this point the bartender told us he was going to check on our food. He disappeared in the kitchen for 10 minutes and then came back empty handed. 5 minutes later our entrees come out, still no mozzarella logs... so I ask the food runner "what about our mozzarella logs?" and she replies "they're coming right out". We told her we didn't want them anymore since we already got our food and had ordered the mozzarella logs as an appetizer, and she just walked away with a pissy look on her face. No sorry, or owning the mistake. Just an annoyed disgruntled look on her face as she walked away without even acknowledging us. Then I look up at the kitchen and see another guy walking toward us with the Mozorella Logs before turning around and heading back. These were the mozzarella logs they had to rush to make for us. Well too bad we don't want them anymore... I'm guessing what happened is that we placed our order, our mozzarella logs came out, and some other server just took them for her own table. I've worked in restaurants before - I know that shit happens. Well she did it our OUR expense, just so she could get a better tip from her own customers. SCREW THAT. We never got an apology for the mistake. Not from the bartender nor from the girl that brought our food. If anything, they were visually frustrated/annoyed after we told them we didn't want the mozzarella logs anymore, as if we were being difficult to deal with. No, actually we just don't need a damn order of mozzarella logs now that we have a pizza and other food sitting on front of us... but somehow that's our fault. Overall the food was ok but the service was a disgrace. Very disappointing experience. I understand mistakes happen, but this wasn't a mistake. Some girl just straight up took our appetizer and gave it to her table - and she knew it but didn't care. The reason I'm writing this review is because of the attitude. Not one single apology or a simply "sorry about that guys". No, we just got a sideways annoyed look when we mentioned that we no longer wanted the appetizer. Don't be mad at your customer for your own screw up. What a joke and I hope the owner sees this. read more

Wow! Now I see why they have a 2.8 stars. We waited 45 mins for our Stromboli and then it came out, not over cooked, but burned. I tried to push through it but the burned taste was overpowering. I was annoyed that the server even brought it. He should have rejected it. Then I ask for him to remake it after two bites were taken. After a half hour - my husband is not done with his food entirely. I am super annoyed and ask for the check. I tell them to forget to Stromboli. I just had to sit and watch my husband eat while I was starving. In the meantime they attempt to bring the Stromboli and I reject it. They ask if I want to take it home. I said no. I am not paying for it. I was livid at this point. The Manager brings the check and they have the nerve to charge me for the Stromboli that I returned. It was bad enough they didn't comp anything off my husbands' meal (I didn't care at that time I just wanted out) but to have the nerve to charge me for food they burned then I asked them to replace but it took them too long... get this... she said I ordered it! I told her in a very non-negotiable way "I AM NOT PAYING FOR FOOD YOU TOOK FOREVER TO MAKE, BURNED and I returned! She adjusted the bill and took the one off. What a shitty Manager. Then she left the table without even as much as an apology. This place has gone downhill so fast. 1/10 of the fillings in the Stromboli as they used to have. Wow! read more

Came in to eat hungry and left the exact same way. The atmosphere is messy and unkept. It feels dirty. It doesn't feel like a restaurant. Our server graciously tossed our meatballs on the table, no plates, no napkins. She did return shortly after with plates. I guess after tossing my food at me like it's slop, she thought I deserved a plate. Our entrees came, The sausage & peppers came out and looked like it was prepared by my 8 year old. Greasy, sloppy, and cold. Even the bread tasted stale. The pasta salad was awful. I'm positive it was spoiled. The bruschetta; served on also stale bread, bread so hard when I bit into my meal, it turned to dust. Anyways, avoid this place, and to the "big deal chef" do better. 2.8 stars for a REASON. Absolutely disappointed in this establishment. Waited in line an hour before opening. We had a large group, so when the doors opened we let them know that we had a large group, but were more than willing to be seated separately (and at different times). The owner (through an employee) stated that we were not welcome because it would not be fair to others who wanted to eat there, as if our money (and long wait) was worth less than others. Totally uncalled for, and a poor business decision. Also, when a member of my party went to photograph the sign (from a public sidewalk), he was berated by an employee who accused him of taking a picture of another employee when he was not. Even if he was, it was in public, no expectation of privacy. I encourage everyone who sees this review to select another establishment that does not mistreat its customers, turn down good money, and attempt to suppress the rights of others by attempting to prevent federally protected rights of American citizens in a public space. read more

The Dahlonega square is both old-timey and pleasant. It's got a goodly number of historic buildings, and the ususal arrangement of tourist shops. Lots of antique sellers all over the place. Gustavo's is a nondescript pizza shop on the south corner of the square. The signage is a little more modern than some of the other spots in the area, so you can't miss it. The kitchen vents into the walking areas so it's completely possible that the prevailing winds will have you smelling a chicken parm from several hundred feet of distance. I think shops like this are really great for that part of a family trip where the kids are tired and nobody wants a surprise. I mean, you've probably been doing the local historical stuff and cooking in your cabin for a few days. It's pizza you know? Partner and I were not traveling with our kids this time, but we were nearing the end of our trip and were very tired. We ordered up our usual pie, green peppers, pepperoni and shrooms. It arrived very, very quickly. This was not during rush time, so I can't speak to their management of crowds. The pie was very nice, and close to what we could call a tavern style, I think. Crust is thin, but not NY-thin. I ate mine with a fork. Outer crust is bubbly and on the more doughy side of the spectrum, with some crispy char marks. Toppings were generous. We didn't say much while eating, just sent a few texts to the babysitter to warn about our schedule for the day. Anyway, if you need a predictable meal for everyone to sit around, catch their breath, and strategize the return trip, this is your spot. read more

Absolute worst place ever! We put our name on the list and 30 minutes. We waited over 90 minutes but there were 5 empty tables. However, we were not the only ones. There were families with children as well. Only one toilet restroom for a large sitting area and bar. Not up to code. Refrigerator/Freezer outside kitchen area by restroom was blinking "error". Possibly too warm for food? Vent over refrigerator/freezer was yellow and clogged with dust. Could not tell who worked there or not. Staff wore street clothes. Kitchen staff wore dirty T-shirts and shorts! We left. I am a yelp reviewer so maybe this review will help them fix the problems! Dahlonega has a long history of celebrating Christmas starting the day after Thanksgiving and going through January 6 so Gustavo's should have been better prepared! Hopefully this will help! Considering the place is in my home town, I was really hoping it would be good. I must say, I was terribly wrong and rather let down by the experience. Even though the place was slow, it still took quite a long time to get our food. We ordered a Fried ravioli: It was pretty mid, not worth the price. And also took way too long to get to our table. The cheese sprinkled on top also just fell off when you tried to eat it. Calzone: With mushrooms, spinach, green peppers, and grilled chicken. Although I ordered it with chicken, it came with no chicken inside of it....... Also when cutting into it, all of the cheese ran out on the plate in a rather watery consistency. Also the dough was dry as a bone. The "toppings" listed were also sparse. Honestly just ordered a larger peice of dry bread with cheese water for $25, Becuase I also got a large when I had intended on the smaller size. How you can make something overly dry and watery at the same time, I'll never know. Margherita Pizza: The pizza was also sparse with its toppings in sections and had clumps in others. Very inconsistent with its spread. The flavor as well was par. The "fresh" basil on top was somewhat of a joke. Also the basil pesto sauce I received with my calzone was not good tasting at all. It definitely tasted like it had parsley or some other herb to cut the basil. And I was pretty upset with that. Not worth the up charge they give you for it. Drinks: I would also review one of the drinks on their menu, but actively could not get a drink order in. The server was never at the table long enough to get even a full sentence in other than to order and ONE single occasion to, by my assumption, mandatorily ask how the food was. Once again the place was embarrassingly slow. Overall, I definitely wouldn't waste another $65 on a meal here, or any money for that matter. I was definitely staring out the window wishing I had gone across the street to eat the entire experience. If that doesn't sum it up for you, I'm not sure what else would. read more
