Lana did amazing on my hair. She cut it perfectly and it's probably one of the best hair cuts I've ever gotten. It looks so healthy and is straight across my boyfriend has been going to Lana for 8 years too. She does male and female cuts. I've been going here for a while but will now stop going thanks to the dishonesty of a part time employee. Overall, the prices are okay, the haircuts are okay, the cleanliness is not great, but the people have generally been nice. Those are reasonable trade offs for many of us. At my most recent visit, when I was paying, the stylist asked me how much I wanted to tip. I said the amount (a standard amount for haircuts), she repeated it back to me, and then rang up a different amount and quickly handed me the receipt. I looked at it and pointed out that she had entered a different amount than what we had agreed to. Her response was to pretend that I had said the higher amount. It isn't the actual dollar amount (which is trivial), but I won't do business with an establishment with dishonest employees. Everybody is hurting these days and you just can't dishonestly scam your way to a higher tip. read more

If you go here, beware that you will not get what you ask for, and they will insist they are right. Two things have forced me to give this place a 2-star. 1) I asked for 1inch off the bottom and layers. I wanted a long haircut. They gave me a short haircut with at least 3-6 inches off depending on the layer. Then, they insisted that it was an inch shorter. No one else who saw me afterwards said it was an inch shorter. If I wanted a short haircut, I would have asked. I did not get what I asked for. 2) One of the women poked my daughter in the eye with the back of the comb when cutting my daughters hair. My husband saw it go in the eye, but she insisted the comb didn't go in the eye. I understand it was an accident but I wanted to know the truth, which she didn't admit. I need to know for the safety of my child what happened. It was my fault for going to this place but I didn't expect them to blatantly go against my wishes and asks. read more

I had my hair cut by Michelle today at Moda's Cuts on Pollard Road. I loved that she really listened to me when I told her how I wanted my hair cut. Very reasonable prices. I felt so happy I found this small shop in a strip mall. My hair came out perfect thanks to Michelle. After sitting home for a year because of the pandemic I also got a great facial by Jennifer. She was very good at what she did. She worked on my white heads. My skin fantastic after she was done. My skin was very dry and I felt like what ever she used hydrated my face, hands and arms. To start, it was difficult to find the place - and when I arrived early for my 9:30 appointment, she did not even have me in her book even though I booked over the phone with her two weeks prior. When she finished with the previous client at 9:50 I was luckily caffeinated and in a good mood from the Keurig Machine. While my stylist was very nice, she was done too quick in my opinion (Less than 2 hours for highlights, wash, trim and style) and did not apply the highlights in a natural tone as I had requested. I got a groupon deal for $29 for shampoo, conditioner, cut, and style. It was a good deal and I am satisfied with my haircut. My cut was not amazing, but Jenny took her time to make my layers even. Regular price for my service is $55 and for that price I'd rather go to K's or JC or a Japanese salon and pay $60. The other good news is that they didn't charge extra for my long, thick hair and i was able to schedule an appointment 1 day in advance. The disappointment for me was when i found out she overlapped my appointment. A service that should take 45min took 90 minutes because she was squeezing other customers and overlapping with my appointment. When i got there for my scheduled time she was working on 2 other people. After waiting 15 minutes, she took me to the back to wash my hair and i was shocked that she told her other customer to blow dry her own hair. Then she put the leave in conditioner in my hair and told me to have a seat. 15 minutes later is when i got her undivided attention. Again, i am content for the price i paid, but don't recommend if you want a high level service. read more

I came here for the great cut/color groupon deal. I made my appointment and had to reschedule it and thankfully no problem. The salon is very nice and has amazing product displays as well as a keurig and plenty comfy seats. My stylist was quang, he was nice but I was told I had to pay 25$ extra because i have long hair. If I wanted to pay 85$ I would have not even purchased the groupon and it wasn't in the fine print either. Decent experience, dissapointed with the extra charge. They could have easily told me about this charge over the phone.they also didn't try to sell me any products or try to reschedule me. Nice salon, nice people but I won't be back. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I saw her most recent deal on Groupon and called her asking if she could manage to fit me in for the color, cut option but also add a few hi-lites as well, no problem she says but will cost more...this was understandable so I booked it. Well last night was a NIGHTMARE! I went in knowing it would take a while and that the price would cost extra, at which she mentioned again but never gave me any idea of how much more. As I've done this before I had an idea myself, so didn't press. I wanted dark brown all over color, and a few golden blonde hi-lites to frame the face and a "trim", 1/2 inch at most. 3.5 hours later I come out with reddish allover where my roots were still another color, the color she informed me would wash out in a couple weeks as she did not use permanent color (sorry why did I come here), a GIANT BRIGHT BLONDE STREAK in the front of head (which she "attempted" to fix twice over then and there but could not) and NO trim what so ever. Granted after the disaster I saw with my color and the fact it had already been 3.5 hours I didn't want a trim from her anymore. The best part was from the 4 shampoos I was soaking wet and freezing, she kept laughing about her mistake, and she charged me FULL PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never offered to let me come back to actually try to fix it later or at least reduce the price. I paid as much as I would have if I went to a fancy spot in the city and actually liked what I walked away with!!!!! Robbery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As she apologized for the umpteenth time (while still laughing) and suggested one way I could wear my hair for the next however long, I fully decided that I should do my due diligence and WARN anyone thinking about going here. My actual rating: 2.5/5 (the stars are for the owner & the dye job -- that's it.) Came here for the first time on 9/25/13 for a cut & color, and I most likely WON'T be coming back. Made the decision to try out this salon for two reasons: 1. It had been just about a year since I had my hair cut and/or colored (so my hair desperately needed some TLC) 2. Money is INCREDIBLY tight right now, but they had a great deal on Groupon for cut & all-over color for $59. My "stylist" was a woman named Isabel, and while she did a great job coloring my hair, she completely disregarded my desired cut/style (which I had expressed to her beforehand) and just kind of proceeded to snip off a couple of inches and pretend to give me layers. Also, the look of utter boredom in her eyes/on her face was very obvious & apparent... which really kind of took away from what was supposed to be an enjoyable, relaxing experience. I truly wish I was able to have a more positive, enjoyable & fulfilling experience... especially since I could have easily given myself the SAME quality cut & color, and it would have been much, much, much less expensive ($8.99 for hair dye @ the grocery store). read more

Jenny is the best stylist I've gone to, and I mean it! I used to pay much more for cut and color, and it wasn't nearly as good. Jenny focuses on her clients by trying her best to have only one person at a time. I've gone to her 3 times, and each time, I was the only one she was working with. Often times, you will have a stylist working on 3-4 people, and you wonder if they are leaving you in the corner with your hair color solution much longer than necessary. Not to mention, Jenny has such a talent with the scissors. I have not had a better haircut than when I started going to her. I have a lot of hair, and she does a fantastic job of thinning it out and making it look less "bulky" - without losing any of the texture of the hair. I also get my highlights done with her, and they also come out looking great. If you've ever had a botched highlight job with the dreaded streaks - Fear not! Jenny has a perfected method that makes it look completely natural. Even with all of her talent, she's completely fair-priced, and a great personality. I highly recommend her. read more

I first met Jenny when i bought groupon for JL Salon. I mean frankly when I buy into groupons, I'm hoping for a great cut, great color at a killer price. I would say that JL Salon fit that bill. My first appointment I bought a groupon for color and cut. I walked in and met Jenny. She's an outgoing type that has a sense of style and gets it done. I appreciate people like this. I walked in let her know that I purchased a groupon, and said: you can do whatever you want. At the time I had long hair. She cut me bob, short hair, bangs straight across, did red highlights. Its not a style I would have picked for myself. But I loved it. I got more compliments on my hair than I have ever had from any other stylist. I've been to a lot of hair stylist. Juut and Edge in Palo alto. MIchael Page in San Francisco. I like that Jenny created a hairstyle that fit me, my hair, my face. I didn't have to pay anything extra other than tip, which I expected. I go back to JL Salon probably every 6 months. My hair isn't short anymore. I grew it out. Everytime I walk in I still say you can do whatever you want. And she comes up with something that I love. Pretty impressive. I'm not easily amused. I've gone through the bob, the angled a-line, now my hair is longer with lighter highlights. I thought about doing a bayalouge color. Jenny reccomended against it. On the reason that it looks like grown out hair color if my hair isn't curled all the time. I didn't think about this. And when I look around at girls that have that dip-dye color, it does look like grown out color on straight hair. She could have probably made a lot more money off me, if she just colored my hair. I appreciate that she cares about how I will look after I leave her salon and keeps in mind that I probably won't go back for a few months. Even without the groupon, I think JL Salon for what they are providing is a great deal. When I say to people I spend about $100 on cut and color, they are usually very impressed because of the way my hair looks. And Jenny is a great person to work with. I have a "interesting" (punk-rock) funky hairstyle with bright colors. I came in and although the two older-than -me (and I'm in my late 30s) ladies speak English as a learned language. They understood what I was asking for and did an amazing job bleaching out and re-cutting my hair. They even added my bright crayon colors (I brought the product in myself-Artic Fox from Sally's) to the bleached out part for me and did a super professional job! Do not be shy to talk to these stylists about what you want. They will give you excellent results! read more

After all of the yelp* reviews of all the salons in Los Gatos, Jenny & the salon was the unanimous favorite by a long shot! After not being in a salon for 10 years, and only getting bathroom trims twice a year from my hubby.... I decided that I needed a "Real Cut"...but who could I trust since my hair falls out more than it grows ?? I PICKED JENNY! I had a great experience, she did a wonderful job on my highlights (I've never had them before) blending in my sun-bleached bottom strands & grays peeking through the top to get gorgeous color :) Even my 17yr old daughter thought I look Fab! She was very careful to just trim where needed and give me a great long layered style that is easy for me to do at home & still sport my ponytail when I need to. I first met Jenny more than six years ago. She was introduced as a new stylist in the salon/spa where I had been getting assorted services. The first time she cut my hair, I knew that I had found the stylist I would stick with. Over the years, no one else has touched my hair. My hair quality has been changing due to aging and losing weight. After my hair thinned by half due to my big weight loss, she was able to find a naturally curly style that I liked that lasted nearly two years until I had it all cut off. When she opened this new salon a couple of years ago, I was so pleased that she had a home. She has lots of space for serving all her customers. It is always clean, well lit, calm and lovely. She only takes people by appointment because she doesn't want folks waiting and waiting. When I call to ask when she can fit me in, she gives me the perfect time so that I can be alone in the shop with her (no distractions) between other clients. For the past three years I have had an assymetrical cut that reflects the styles of younger clients, but I never felt silly. Jenny knows how to make me look my best self. And she never criticizes or imposes her own opinion. Today I went in to even out the assymetry into a short page boy. Success again! I am always pleased with what she gives me. And her prices are very reasonable for the time that she takes to make each client happy with the services they have chosen. read more

Alright, so here's the deal...I got a Living Social/Groupon type deal for a Yuko Japanese Hair Straightening treatment. It is supposed to last 6 months, but these "straightening" hair treatments RARELY last as long as their supposed to. I've had several keratin smoothing treatments and only found ONE salon that does it correctly and it actually lasts as long as it's supposed to. Jenny has a special chair with an exhuast fan for these chemical laden treatments...my eyes didn't burn and I watched the steam/smoke from the treatment go straight up into the fan! This is a LONG treatment...prepare to spend 2-3 hours at the salon...bring water, food, and a book. I don't expect this to last 6 months, but I really love it and I DO expect it to last a solid 3 months which is better than any keratin treatment I've ever had. I have pretty curly/frizzy hair, so for it to last that long is pretty impressive. I could NOT stop running my fingers through my hair when I left! It was SO soft and shiny...really beautiful. If I can get the same price that I paid for the groupon thing, I'll do this again for sure. Edited to add: It has officially been 4 months since the treatment and all I have to do it blow dry my hair. If I want it board straight, I have to flat iron some parts, but blow drying it is usually sufficient. I'm amazed! I should also mention that I only wash my hair a couple of times a week and I condition with the Yuko conditioner... read more

Jenny was very acommodating when I was trying to squeeze in an appointment. I had a groupon deal for the Yuko hair straightening treatment. I have moderately poofy hair - a bit frizzy but not very curly. I have never spent this much moola on my hair, but I was getting tired of spending my mornings straightening my hair so I jumped the gun and bought the deal Jenny is super friendly and very thorough with making sure every strand of my hair was getting treatment. She washed my hair, then put in a hair conditioning treatment, followed by another rinse, then straighten, plus another round of treatment, and a final rinse. It took 3 hours or so, but it flew by pretty quickly since we were talking most of the time. I'm really pleased with the results; three months in, my hair is still straight! I even took a vacation in the amazon rainforest without any hair poofage. read more
