I was very satisfied with the whole experience at Modern Auto sales. The process was super quick and probably would of been faster if we could make up our minds on which car to buy. They have a huge selection of low mileage cars on their lot. I was worried with a 570 credit score and only $1700 dollars down that I would be denied but I wasn't. I ended up with a sweet Chevy Malibu LTZ and i couldn't be happier. Ask for John because he was very patient even though it was pouring rain and it was late. What followed was a nightmare of fraud, extortion, and theft--still under active investigation by Hollywood PD. When I filed complaints, the GM threatened me. Ernesto Campos sent a threatening email demanding $434 with a 48-hour deadline and threatened a defamation lawsuit for exercising my legal right to file complaints. GOOGLE RATING MANIPULATION Modern Auto has a 4.1 star rating on Google, but that number is deceptive. Clusters of 5-star reviews have no text, no photo, no review history. Some are just a name and five stars. One reviewer called it out: the company "takes out adds to show there google reviews higher then what is actual" (James Beech, 2/15/26). Another reviewer was literally an employee. Yelp tells the real story. Capital One's Auto Navigator displays these manipulated Google Reviews--meaning Capital One is promoting a dealership with an inflated rating. When the fraud was exposed, Capital One told me to "work directly with the dealership." The same dealership under criminal investigation. Capital One chose the criminal over their customer. Dude, don't even waste your time with these guys. I literally called an hour ahead to make sure they had the car I wanted, and the guy confidently said, "Yeah, come in." So I showed up. I took an Uber and paid a hundred bucks because I don't live anywhere near this area. When I got there, the guy was like, "Yeah, sorry dude, it's not here." I asked, "What do you mean it's not here?" And he said, "Oh, it's in service. Sorry." So I asked him, "Then why did you tell me it was here?" And he said, "Oh, well it wasn't me. It was probably somebody else." I would NOT recommend Modern Auto Sales to anyone. This was one of the most frustrating car-buying experiences I've had. The process felt rushed, and there was very little transparency about the full cost of the vehicle and financing terms. Once the deal was done, the customer service completely changed. It was almost impossible to get clear answers or support when I had questions after the purchase. It honestly felt like they only cared about closing the sale and nothing else. If Saul Goodman had a car dealership, it would look like this place. "Better call Saul", or in this case "Better Call Campos". My wife and I had been car shopping for about 2 weeks prior to April 22nd, and on the day we made the decision to purchase a newer used car, we stopped at a Nissan dealer in our home town of Vero Beach to inquire about a few cars that were listed on sale. The price of the dealer fee that the Nissan dealer told us was $2,500, and this was a deal breaker that we did not agree with and we moved on. We then went to this auto dealer in Hollywood FL that we saw on CarFax.com. They had about 20 cars with fantastic prices on carfax.com, and so we drove 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there hoping to buy one of their listed cars for sale. We handed our list of selections to the salesman by the name of Eddie and said that we would like to see these cars. He said they had only one of the cars on our list and that it was not for sale due to a bad transmission. As we were walking from one car to the next we explained what a bad experience we had at the Nissan dealer we had visited just 2 hours earlier and that they were crazy asking $2,500 for a dealer fee on top of the asking price. We explained that we will not agree to something like that and then I asked Eddie if his dealership had a dealer fee? He said yes, but it's only $995! I responded with "I guess times have changed, but okay, $995 is better than $2,500". Eddie gave us a price of $22,000.00 for the car we decided to buy. They said they would give us $2,000 for our trade in, and we accepted this. When we agreed to buy the car for $22,000, the manager of the lot said that the price was $22,995 not $22,000. I said no thanks and began to get up and leave. They said they would come down to $22,500 and again I declined. Finally the owner came out and said $22,225 and I reluctantly agreed. The owner began processing our $14,000 down payment and our trade in. As I was reading through the details, I notice that the owner switched our trade in price from the agreed $2,000 to $1,500. I said this needed to be corrected. He replied by saying that "no, we agreed on $1500, but I will change the price". This should have been enough of a red flag to make me get up and walk away. And at this moment I should have noticed that he also switched the dealer fee from $995 to $2,995. But I completely missed this purposeful deception and had I caught this switch by the owner I would have walked out and written them off as the dishonest business that they are in reality. But wait, there's more. When I finished signing the paperwork, I asked for the documents that I had just signed. Their response? "We'll mail them to you". I asked when I could expect these? "They said, oh the woman that does the paperwork will contact you next week and then send them to you". Could it be that they did not give me copies of all documents because they didn't want me to see the switcheroo on the Dealer fee from $995 to $2995? Probably. Later once I received the receipt via email and I saw the price switch, I called to request a refund of the price that we did not agree on. They offered to replace two of the three bad tires on the car, as well as give me a door key that works for the car. It has now been 2 days since I spoke with the Finance man named "Blanco". He said he would call me Thursday, but crickets. Then I called the afternoon of Thursday May 10th and they said he was off work that day and that he would be in on Friday between 10:30-11AM. I called at 12 on May 12th, but they said that Blanco the Finance guy was at their other location. I called their other location and they said that he was at the other location (original location). So I call them again and ask for Blanco, they said again that he was at the other location...I said either you are lying or your other location is lying and which one was it? Starting to get the picture of this crooked business? While I appreciate them offering me replacement tires, this is peanuts compared to the $2,000 that they swindled out of me. Businesses like this give used car lots the stereotype that people know well when they think of used car dealers. I finally decided not to take their offering of tires or re-keying based on the fact that I could not trust them. Driving an hour and 45 minutes to maybe get retreads or worse, I decided just to file a complaint with Florida Consumer protection and BBB instead. Don't walk away from this shady dealer, run. We drive an hour to see the car, they said it was at their other lot even though the online advertisement said it was at the address we drove and the salesperson said it was at the lot we drove when we spoke to him. We drove to the other lot and guess what it wasn't there either. Don't waste your time. Typical used car dealership tricks bait and switch. I read the reviews and still tried to give them a shot. I had an appointment to see a car and they told me it was okay that I sent a mechanic out to do a pre purchase inspection before I bought it. Not 12 hours after I made the appointment and paid $250 for the inspection they sold the car I told them I was going to buy without even giving me any notice. They were just going to let me drive an hour to their establishment to look at a car that isn't there. This place is a shady fly by night group of scammers and scheisters. I drove 4 hrs to pick up a 2014 luxury car presented as in mint condition with a clean car fax and no road dings. What they showed me was a car that had been previously wrecked and extremely poorly repaired. The hood was out of alignment with the rest of the body by 3/8". This thing had been wrecked badly. The front end had overspray all over the lights. Hell if your going to try to pull of a fraud at least have the competance to do a decent job! They said they would have it detailed. I advise everyone to stay away from this place. The owner runs this like a zoo. Very disorganized and messy. They don't give you your contracts or tell you the full details of what you're signing in to. They sort of just rush you to sign. Then they take you into a room and have you lie to the bank so that you can have a car. They coerce you to lie, and sign these contracts. Then they repossess your car without even telling you anything if you miss a payment by 1-3 days ONLY. They are practicing fraudulently and they will soon be audited. I am reporting them to every licensing organization. They are a part of and will make sure I get lawyer for my case. They even make you go back and ask you to pay more money down than initially discussed. They are horrible people who curse at you and throw curse words around the office in front of everyone. Talk about an unpleasant experience. At first glance this dealer seems typical, but as time went by I realized I made a grave mistake! Be warned when walking into this dealer be on your guard, remember to read all documentation, and by all means do not let them dictate to you what is going to happen. They lured me back into the office under the pretense that I would get a better bank to finance me, after they made a mistake. I'm a middle aged man and I never thought that I would be taken advantage the way I have from this dealership. Lois has taken the Fraze used car sales man to a new level. I bought a car there and it was a rainy day and I really loved the thought of getting a 2012 Camry. I only walk around the car once and ask my sales rep if the car has ever been in a car accident and was told no way. the car was perfect.After getting the car home and wanted to clean it I saw that the passenger's side was in a very bad accident. I spoke to Tony who I told about being lied to and was told that they would fix it for me. I have phone records of me calling at least twice a day on to be put on hold every time until they would hang up on me. I have very poor health and need treatments and needed a dependable car for tat and work. I never write bad things about anything but WOW they got me good. My tire light is still on that I was also told that it just needed reset. Another lie I have a bad computer. Do not believe any thing this place tells you. They such a scam.
