The place is a vibe, and they were the sweetest. Mimi was kind on the phone when I called, and Paul did a fantastic job on my hair. I could tell he spent focus and detail on fading, cutting and styling my hair despite awaiting customers. Highly recommend!

I called Sunday and was able to set up an appointment w Paul within the hour. I've seen many barbers and by far Paul has been one of the best! He was professional and very humble. Not a traditional barber shop at all. Paul did such a great job on my hair. Beautiful highlights and cut. He is very talented. The salon is clean, he uses great products, good prices and you cal tell that Pail takes pride in giving the customer what they want. He hid a great job on my husband's hair as well. read more

I took my son to get a haircut about 2wks ago and I loved it! Even my son liked it a lot. My son always prefers to cut his hair with a female, but he felt comfortable with Paul. He does a great job, very nice and also takes his time. Shop is clean and is a comfortable atmosphere. I recommended this shop. I'll be brining him back soon. Paul is great guy. His shop is super modern. I just get simple haircut and its excellent by him and by the girl there (I think her name is Nancy). They both do a detailed job. I thought since both were Asian they would not cut my Caucasian hair well but I was wrong. He even cut my hair a day the shop was closed. That is customer service! read more

Ive had my haircut here several times already and my hair always turns out great. Paul is the guy to go to but if he's not available Linda can do the job just as good. They're friendly and they always ask you how you want your hair done and also check with you while they're cutting your hair if you like what you see so far. read more

I live in la but have been coming to oc for work for the last few months. Desperate for a decent cut in an unfamiliar area I was recommended to try Modern Barber. I came in with an undercut and left with a nice short spiked fade. Teri did an amazing job on my hair and I will absolutely be coming back for more. If you're on the fence, don't be. I get my haircut once a month and I feel like I have been to every mens barber in Tustin & Irvine. Paul is the best barber In the area. He takes his time and I have never been disappointed with a haircut. He will literally cut every hair on your head one at a time, but for the product and the price ($15), you can not beat this place. read more

Just went there today, and the reviews are correct. These guys are great! I've been looking for a place to get my son's hair cut for 7 years. I've been to no less than 15 salons/barber shops in Newport Beach, Irvine, Tustin, and Westminster and beyond to find a place just for him. I usually find them lacking in technique. And for the two places where the technique was solid, they had poor skills working with kids. Lee, at Modern Barber, was technically solid and worked well with a fidgety kid who hates having stuff touch his face (i.e. bits and pieces of hair). I'm so happy that I finally don't have to commute 5 hours to get his hair cut. And, for the germaphobes out there - this place is CLEAN. You will love it! read more

Only place I've been getting my haircut since moving here usually always a great haircut. But just left today and the guy did not listen to me what so ever. The haircut looks terrible. He cut it way too short when I showed him how much to cut off and made the side of my hair look like a marine cut and not the shelf look like I asked for. It's hair so it will grow back in a couple weeks so it's not too big of a deal but it's still frustrating to have a bad haircut read more

I have never written a yelp review before but wanted to write my first one because I am so pleased with my experience and haircut. My hair stylist was THUY, a very likable person who has a real talent working with hair. On a recommendation I came in for a color and cut and THUY, after a consultation, effortlessly did her magic. She gave me a new hair style that made me look younger and more stylish. The next day in the office I got a lot of compliments on my new haircut. People passing me in the hallway told me that my hair style looked cool. THUY thank you so much for doing such a great job on my hair! read more

One of the best place I've been to when cutting my hair. Came in and I didn't wait much, a nice girl took me right in and asked for my cut and she did a good job, than I believe Paul the comes in to see how my hair was and double checks. They are very friendly and also take their time to cut our hair. If there was a 10 star I'd give it to them because they did a good job with my hair that was a comb over. read more

I found Modern Barber by chance driving around in Tustin. I just moved to Irvine and needed to find a good barber shop, so I just checked out Paul's shop and it was clean and professional. The haircut was the same...exactly what I wanted, very precise, clean and even, and great attention to details. I would call this shop a "hybrid" between a barber shop and salon. Excellent barber shop feel and prices for guys like me, full service capability, modern look with upgraded audio/video and sofas for comfort while you wait...huge value for this $15 haircut! So my first time here was a good experience. The lady that cut my hair did a fairly good job. However, the second time around was not as good. Although the customer service was great, stylist very friendly, she did a bad job on my high fade. It was uneven on both sides and she left very hard lines. My wife did a double take which made me more self conscious. All that being said, I don't think I'll come back. For the quality, I'm better off going to a cheaper barber. read more

Came in here at 9:50 am. I assumed you didn't need an appointment. There's nothing in the shop that indicates that. so I sat there and waited. 30 minutes go by and I ask if Paul is coming in cause im next and the guy tells me I need appointment. So I walked out. If I had known I wouldn't have wasted my time. Typical customer service. People don't like working on weekends so they treat customers like shit. read more

I've been coming here for a while now and have had my hair cut by almost everyone who works here. Thuy was by far the best and I started making appointments with her. Called in earlier this week to make an appointment and was told she didn't work there anymore. I asked if she left contact information or the name of her new place and I barely finished my sentence before I was told in an angry voice, "WE DON'T HAVE THAT!". That was really unprofessional. I doubt I'll be coming back. read more

I usually cut my own hair because I find barbers are sloppy or have a difficult time getting it the way I like. Neither was the case here. Nancy gave me a great cut just with some little directions on how I wanted it and made suggestions along the way. Good technique left it very even with no missed spots. Took me from shaggy (2 months uncut) to slick in less than 30 minutes. read more

Across all the stylists I've had, Michelle has been the most consistent and efficient at this, with special attention to my annoying cowlicks, but I haven't gotten a *bad* cut from anybody. Lin & Anh are my go to for my pedicures and I moved away from square shops toe nails to rounded edges. Looks so much nicer on my feet. Remember cash only. Parking can get tight. But when the hair place is closed you can park there. Appointment is the best because this place is always booked and busy.

Update: second cut at modern barber : I've had bad haircuts , good haircuts but very rarely have I had amazing haircuts !!! This is the spot !! Paul is a master , takes his time makes sure the cut is perfect. Honestly this good of cut should be reserved for high end salons and Paul charges next to nothing !! Maybe you are thinking about trying a new barber ? Don't think any longer , call Paul make an appointment and you'll be set for life !! Finding a great barber these days is next to impossible but with modern barber you've hit the jackpot. Nothing but love for this shop. Try it out and you won't be disappointed. Paul can use the razor with the best of them ( no scratching or irritation) and with the scissors he's a Jedi !! Unless you have Paul as your barber you are more than likely not getting the best cut you can !! Great spot !!! Paul was awesome , exactly what I wanted. Clean shop high quality chairs , good conversation and solid price !!! Will be going back 100% if you don't want to pay $40 for a cut with a tip then modern barber is the spot to go ... $20 with tip and a great cut can't be beat !!! I've been coming to Modern Barber now for about 4 years ever since moving to the area. I've always liked my haircuts here, and especially now that Helen has been cutting my hair for me for maybe 2 years now. She is always so friendly and happy and we always have a fun conversation - usually about our favorite places to eat, haha! But seriously, I think Helen is a real gem because she cuts my hair just right. I have been meaning to update my review for a while now, but a part of me thinks I always forget because I don't want to share Helen with anyone, haha. Talk about a bad hair day. I came in to get my hair fixed from the last place I went but that was a mistake lol I told the lady only the top since they cut the side too short. She kept saying yes yes yes to everything and what does she do? GOES EVEN LOWER ON THE SIDE! Like WTF I said only the top. Her response "yes yes" and continues to try to cut lol hahah really!? I just ended up cutting it all off lol it's like talking to a wall. They didn't charge me but I could careless I'll F*****ing pay you double to follow directions lol Time for a lace front ..... read more

My and wife and I have been been looking for a barber in O.C. to cut my hair well for a over a year now since we moved here. When barber's first see me, they assume I have simple Asian straight hair that can be cut quickly and easily, but I don't. My hair sticks out more than normal and is difficult to cut straight for some reason. Paul was one of the few that can do it well. Not to mention they are professional and friendly. They're always ready for my appointment. read more

I've been here before and I went here today and I was very disappointed. Last time I went here, I got Paul and was very satisfied. This time I received a barber who seemed like he was an assistant and not very skilled. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and it was NOTHING like I wanted. He didn't talk at all and my hair looks like a porcupine when gelled up. I would've been satisfied if Paul did it but that was a disappointment. read more

First time coming here today. Got there right when they opened and Kathy was very welcoming. I'm usually not that nit picky with my haircut because I understand that my hair just don't want to cooperate sometimes. Kathy though was very detail-oriented and made sure that my hair look good. I came in on the day before Thanksgiving and there was luckily hardly a wait! I think it was because these barbers so are so good and efficient at their jobs, they don't keep a line waiting too long. I had Katie who took no breaks in getting my hair looking good and similar to the picture I showed her. The staff is also super nice and seems malleable to whether or not you're chatty (I'm not). read more

I have been looking for a great barber in the area for about year since I moved here! No luck yet, until I met Paul! He's amazing! He totally gets my vision and my hair had always turned out exactly how I pictured it! I have had three different hair cuts thus far and I have liked all three of them!
