Everyday I drive past Modern Eyewear home from work. But it was until, I saw the rave reviews on here that I decided to stop by and purchase some eyeglasses. I've been to many different optical stores in search for the right frames for my face type. The moment I stop by into Modern Eyewear, Colleen was quick to help me find the perfect frames. She quickly picked out 3 frames for me that were perfect for me. I ended up purchasing 2 frames and couldn't be even more happier. The total amount of time I spent looking for glasses in Modern Eyewear was less than 15 minutes!!! Colleen surely knows what frames look good on a person! On top of that, I got a follow up email from Colleen asking how my glasses are working out for me and to come in for any future repairs/adjustments. Now that's what I call customer service!!! I found them randomly online and im glad i did. They took me in right away and the doc even got on the phone with me! Cheryl ran ever test possible on my eyes and i was very impressed with all the new equipment they have. She did a very thurough job on my eye exam and I cant remember ever getting such treatment. Opt in for the $35 option to get pictures of the back of your eyes! I know its worth it for medical reasons but i thought it was super cool seeing the pics. I have been wearing glasses since I was in 4th grade, and this place is the most amazing optometry place I have ever been to. I am so glad the Yelp reviews were spot on, this place was awesome from phone call to first visit and even the pick up. I called asking about a frame that I thought I wanted that nobody carries anymore, the owner answered the phone wasn't sure if she could get them so she took my name and number and said she'd look and call me back. Tha she did about 10 minutes later! She said she could, I made my appt for the very same day. The exam was very thorough, the staff were very polite and very friendly. The office was beautiful, and everything was well organized. I ended up picking a pair of Kate Spade frames with the HD lenses, and I placed my order. They came in about a week and a half later. I was very happy with everything start to finish here will be coming here for all my future needs. The HD lenses do help with oncomng car light glare! read more

Impressive! I woke up with an eye infection and I was able to see Dr. Alderson that same morning to get it taken care of. I usually go to another eye doctor but I usually cannot get same-day appointments and there is always a long wait. Dr. Alderson was thorough and kind. The staff was friendly, efficient and I was very pleased with everyone in the office. I even had a mix-up with my insurance ID# and they called me to let me know it was resolved with no issues. I initially was very happy to go to Modern Eyewear Optometry. They said my insurance would cover almost everything and that they had lots of eye frames that my insurance would cover. I was expecting good service, a great price, and decent glasses. First they gave me the "wong type" of eyeglasses :not suitable for outdoor activites -- hello that is mostly what I do. So I had two accidents wearing my new, very expensive frame glasses that my insureance barely covered. I fell down because I could literally NOT SEE. I must have said at least five times in the office that these were not working. But I left anyways to get used to them. Second, I took them back. After a lot of hasstle and them admitting that I should never have been given that pair, they did not know what to do. So I got glasses for far away vision and NOTHING to read with. Thirdly, one year of not having any reading glasses I called and asked if they could put in my old prescription in a set of frames I have to read with, or my prescription. I have never received a call back. But I was told contacts may just do it, and it only costs xxxx more if I wouldlike to try that.. All they care about is your money. Too bad they try to get all they can out of each person! I felt very ripped off, and would not recommend them unless price is no object and you are willing to pay a lot for okay service. read more

I love this place. It's like the Nordstrom of optometry places and I say Nordstrom because not only does it look like a fancy boutique with fancy designer products, their customer service was also outstanding. I was helped by both the husband and wife optometrists (Dr. Charles Dominguez and Dr. Cheryl Alderson), and they were very friendly, honest, and knowledgable. I never experienced any upselling; if they didn't think I needed a procedure, they would say so (even though it would benefit them for me to do so). My experience started even before the appointment when all the forms were emailed to me. I liked that I could fill them out at my convenience on my own time. They do have the latest technology as the other reviews stated. I was telling Cheryl that all the pre-tests have been the same for God knows how long, yet their machines were the probably the most advanced I'd ever seen. (I used to work for the Lenscrafters optometry in the Irvine Marketplace and remembered hating their machines, but I probably would have fun with these!) Throughout my exam, Cheryl made sure that I didn't feel any discomfort and explained each test/procedure. I told her I always had trouble with the "Lens A or B?" procedure because I could never see perfectly clear probably due to astigmatism. She understood what I was going through and was very patient with me the entire time. I was also interested in LASIK and Charles helped me with that one. He analyzed my data and told me that I might not be the best candidate for LASIK because my corneas are too thin (and he works for a LASIK center so I trust that he knows what he's talking about). I'm disappointed but I appreciate the honesty. I ended up getting a year's supply of contacts for the full rebate (you can also order them online and have them shipped to you!). I saw many gorgeous frames but I just didn't think I needed them at this time. Of course I WANTED them, but I just don't need them lol..All in all, 5 stars for this place and I will definitely be back! read more

No more air puff machine, the Dr used a new technology that's much more accurate. My last dr had to do the puff machine multiple times to get a consistent and accurate reading. I had an amazing experience with Modern Eyewear Optometry. I had my first ever eye exam in October 2014. The front desk area was clean and organized. I was given my exam with high-tech equipment that was impressive. Dr. Dominguez was very professional and friendly, creating a relaxed environment during the rest of the exam. I was given a mild prescription for glasses. Having never worn glasses, I had my trepidations, but was comforted by not only Dr. Dominguez, but the optician/fitting consultant. She was funny and had great advice in selecting frames. They arrived days before expected, and I'm shocked at the difference. Even though it was a mild prescription, things are now more clear. I highly recommend Modern Eyewear for anyone who demands great service. The doctor was informative and friendly, and the staff was extra helpful and went out of their way to help me on several levels. The support staff not only fixed my old pair of glasses, so I wouldn't be without until the new ones arrived, but they also looked checked my insurance to see if I was covered for lens replacement on both new pairs of glasses. One pair was severely scratched and the second pair didn't transition the way I expected. I highly recommend this optometrist. Dr. Dominguez He was so thorough with eye exam that he even did tests for my eyes that I have never had other Drs do before which I feel were very important and he knew exactly what my problem was not only did he have such a nice manner about him , his whole staff did too. Maribel also performed some tests and wow she really knows what she's doing she also helped me with my order they let me have some courtesy contacts to see if I'm comfortable with them before I order and they explained every single charge and they work with you with available discounts. My glasses haven't come in but I ordered three pairs and worth every single penny I'm sure I will update this review when I get them which I'm sure it'll be great! At the time I was going at it through a family emergency and they really made me feel so comfortable three times I had to reschedule my appointment and not one time they ever flinch or acted rude or upset about it they were very understanding and that goes with the whole staff including the ladies in the front. read more

I came in pretty frazzled with my experience at Sears and Lenscrafters, with sales people that tell you everything looks good and a selection and prices I was less then pleased with. I called Modern Eyewear before I came in, Colleen asked for my insurance information so it would be ready when I walked in - when I told her my name she knew exactly who I was and had my insurance coverage ready for me. I am giving 5 stars because DR.DOMINGUEZ was great. He is personable and thorough. I am a visual person and with the technology these Doctors have make it easier to understand whats going on if anything.. With this being said, my daughter who is 8 will be seen for the first time this week with Dr. Dominguez ( wife) Dr. Cheryl Alderson. WARNING* I was not initially comfortable when one of the ladies took me back and did the pre Dr. exams. I feel I got ripped off for a "non covered" procedure which she told me would check to see if the back of my eyes were healthy.... I believe the Dr did this regardless,** without this "upgrade". ( If it was not for the Doctors chair-side mannerisms, explaining and addressing my concerns, I would have cancelled my daughters appointment and gone somewhere else. When I called today this same person ( who is not a very welcoming lady/(not the receptionist*but training the receptionist i think) told me I cannot come in to get my glasses and lens rx, that the optician is not in today. I explained how I was seen yesterday and the Dr. wrote up my rx ect....She said no. I said, uh ok, so no one else knows the price of the glasses? Well I guess not. How easy would it have been for me to try some on pick out what I like call me or I call them for the "final price" and I can have someone swing by and pick up my glasses. I did not even mention how yesterday she said I could come by today if they are in past 430, which is when im off today. I also asked if the office can call in prescriptions( the /eye-drops) and this same lady read my rx to me , I said, I understand my prescription but are you able to call it in? In an annoyed voice she said; you want me to call it in? i said yes please, she said, what is the pharmacy number. I will not be surprised if it does not get called in, just like I asked yesterday if I could get the np forms for my daughter emailed over, said she would "re send them" (which I never received) Well I checked my email again*no forms, asked this lady again when I called today. (she said she will tell the receptionist.) I will prob just get the rx for the lenses and go somewhere else to purchase the frames and lenses. I would really like to give my business to these Doctors**. But I have a crazy busy schedule and do not want to wait another week. The receptionist" She seemed a little new. the lady I mentioned above seemed to be training her. The receptionist was very kind and welcoming... when it came to my insurance, both ladies seemed to be confused as to what I was trying to explain about my vision benefits. I have 2 separate benefits(same company and all*which I explained when making my appointment. * the lady I mentioned above( non welcoming one) was trying to tell me how I only have a percentage bla bla but the optician had overheard and told the ladies to check the "main subscriber, which is what I thought you do when checking any insurance, regardless* who cares/maybe it works differently when it comes to vision.. (when the group name(company) is the largest eye-wear company, you would assume the coverage for vision is gonna be good regardless of hmo or ppo. After the lady above was trying to convince me I had no clue as to what Im talking about, the optician walked over because she heard us talking and asked the ladies did you check the main subscriber??? IM thinking, how do you get a full breakdown of benefits with out checking the main subscriber? I also explained what I knew I had as far as vision from the prior eye doctor I went too. Word of Advice MAKE SURE YOU KNOW how your benefits work... If someone took the time to read all of this: this was* my* personal experience, maybe you will get lucky and receive the perfect patient experience. ( with the doctor I have 0 complaints, which is why I gave 5 stars and not 4 or 3. Regardless of the other lady I mentioned a few times I am willing to give it another chance. Went to Oakley in the Irvine Spectrum and the Oakley Headquarters in Foothill Ranch and couldn't believe they didn't have a tiny screw for my mom's sunglasses. I googled optician and this place had the best reviews so I thought I'd check it out. Right off the bat Sandra is one of the nicest girls I've ever had help me. A few minutes later, my mom's sunglasses have a screw, and she even tightened the other one and she didn't charge me one dime. I couldn't believe the customer service and that they didn't charge me for the labor or for the screw. Definitely coming back here next time I need glasses. Modern Eyewear Optometry had 5 stars and once I visited their office I can see why! They have amazing customer service and booking an appointment was so easy to do through their website! I originally struggled on where to rank Modern Eyewear Optometry. On the one hand, I feel that Dr. Alderson was wonderful and truly professional. She knew exactly what she was doing and even verified my prescription when something seemed a little bit off. I couldn't be happier with the service she provided me. On the other hand, when it came time to pick out a frame, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the frame selection, especially in my price range. I didn't see anything within the $150 allowance of my insurance, and hardly anything under $200, so I chose to find my new frames elsewhere. I think part of this is due to me being picky and part due to the fact that few independent optometrists can carry an endless selection of frames. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the service Dr. Alderson provided me and I can tell that she truly cares about her patients. She also mentioned that she will be working to improve the frame selection, which would be a huge plus that would likely bump them up to the 5-star level in my book. read more

Colleen and Leah of Modern Eyewear are amazing! Ever since my first visit with Colleen back around 1997/1998 I have gone back to her for eye glasses ever since. The one on one personal service their office provides can't be beat. They are great at what they do! They help pick out a pair of frames that are the perfect fit for each individual. They are SO fast at getting the glasses made and contact you right away when they are ready. They spend the time it takes not only to help you pick out the perfect pair of glasses, but are also so very helpful in taking the time to make the minor adjustments (if needed) to make sure the fit is good and "tweak" them on the spot if needed. I am pretty picky, but no matter what, they spend the quality time to make sure everything is right for you. I wish every company provided such good customer service. Within the last 3 weeks my spouse and purchased two more pairs of glasses at Modern Eyewear. For myself, I got my first pair of transitional lenses so I don't have to switch between glasses and sunglasses and Colleen made my spouse a pair of reading glasses that work perfect for computer and report viewing. Speaking with the office manager at Modern Eyewear, she was able to make a few calls to their lens lab and swap out the lenses without any charge or hassle. FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL! I had an amazing experience at Modern Eyewear Optometry. Dr. Dominguez was very pleasant and welcoming. He was aware that I came in for the exam during my lunch hour and was extremely accommodating. Professional and attentive bedside manner. The recently renovated office is beautiful and full new nifty technology which is pretty cool and impressive. Leah helped me pick out my frames and she was so friendly and patient.
