This is a wonderful optometry practice! I highly recommend Dr. Justin Euperio. My exam was extremely thorough, and honestly, it was one of the best eye exams I've ever had. An eye exam can sometimes feel like a routine, no-big-deal appointment, but the experience here was noticeably different. The woman who did my initial diagnostic testing was also so friendly and welcoming, and she immediately made me feel comfortable. Everyone was warm and professional, and the entire practice has such a great energy and vibe. The facility is also very clean and inviting. I have been going there for over ten years for annual eye exams and glasses. Everyone there is great. Very helpful and answer any questions. Spend a good amount of time with patients. Usestate of art equipment and give choices on what piece of equipment may be best for you. Last year Dr. DeMoss discovered an ulcer in my left eye and immediately called Harvard Eye Clinic who took me the next day. Two eye surgeons looked at the ulcer and immediately took pictures and optical equipment to see how bad the ulcer was. They treated the ulcer right away with eye drops and salve. After visiting many optometrist offices in the area, I've found this one to be the best. The staff here are the friendliest and most helpful you'll find anywhere. I wish I knew all the names of those who assisted me. It started with the tech assisting Dr. DeMoss with my exam; they were so kind and welcoming. Dr. DeMoss was very thorough, warm, and friendly. Ralph assisted me with my eyeglass selection, and he was amazing. He is so patient and kind. I told him I wanted something different from what I normally wear, but my face structure makes it a bit difficult. He gave me a variety of glasses to try on and provided honest feedback. I came back three times because I couldn't decide which frames to choose. Two other staff members also helped, and I can't say enough about how nice they all were. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! This place has terrible customer service. The office manager is rude and has the absolute worst customer service. She was extremely rude and condescending even when I try to call to confirm a simple question. She was not able to answer it so I asked her to ask someone who can. She got more irritated and did so reluctantly. The favorable response I received made her more upset. When I showed up for my visit, she continued to be hostile towards me. They hurried me and my family along in the appointments even though I've made multiple appointments for all of us. Prices here for some services are also WAY more EXPENSIVE than other optometric groups. Go elsewhere cheaper and with better service. read more

Over the years, I usually come to this office to look for frames. They have the best selection even thou I have my eye exam done elsewhere. My husband and I purchased our new glasses here and we are so happy with them! It's because of "Ralph" who is the optician there. He is the most competent optician we have every come across. He's transparent, professional, patient, pleasant, personable and a wealth of knowledge. He's impeccable with his work and takes his clients seriously. He doesn't write quotes on a sticky note which has always been a turnoff to me with this office. When that happens, it tells me this place doesn't care, doesn't want my business and to just "go away." I highly recommend asking for "Ralph." He's the best and we will continue to give him our business. In fact, we may even switch to have our eye exams done there as well in the future. read more

Getting old might as well get my eyes checked, right? You're supposed to get your eyes checked once a year but I can't even recall a single time I've gotten my eyes checked - maybe when I was really young. Who knows? The clinic is clean and super professional. Parking sucks but luckily I went close to the end of day. There are a series of exams and then a consultation with the doctor. They did various tests to check vision, to see my response to things, to check my optic nerve, and if there are any diseases in the eye or any indicator of other things like cholesterol etc. Luckily, everything checked out well. Then, you get to see the doctor. She goes over all the tests, explains stuff, lets you look at the inside of your eyeballs (very cool) and then you do a series of readings. Everything good. I explained some issues I was having and she did recommend reading glasses but alas, I know those just make things worse - not better so I skipped on that. My eyes are still good. I can read stuff really well. I'll live. read more

I'm a very new patient. In fact, I haven't even seen Dr. Michaels yet but I've heard so many nice things about him so I'm looking forward to meeting him next week. This review is for Cynthia. I called on a FRIDAY afternoon at 4pm and I explained my dilemma. My annual appointment isn't due until next month but I'm experiencing some vision issues and was hoping to be seen by Dr. Michaels and offered to pay out of pocket. The front office staff of my current optometrist of 15+ years wasn't helpful and gave me no options. That was not the case with Cynthia. She went above and beyond and called my insurance company and took care of me. Cynthia called me back AFTER 5pm to tell me the good news and helped me set up my appointment. I have very very particular eyes (+9 with astigmatism) and there are only a few places that even manufacture my monthly contacts. I have been wearing them less and less often because of comfort and vision. Glasses are just more comfortable and I see the best. HOWEVER, the doctors at South County Eye Care having me now fitted properly and seeing better than I ever have with contacts in my 20 years of wearing them! I am thrilled. Let me start by saying that I have been wearing glasses since the fifth grade and contacts since the 7th grade. And without disclosing my age, lets just say its been almost two decades that I've been going to a number of different optometrists. Well, I have never had a complaint of any one of the ones I've seen (about 5 in my lifetime). Well, this was my first of bad experiences with an eye practice. The doctor I saw was "meh" but he had a very "sales" oriented attitude. Yeah, its a tough economy and you want to up sell me, but you are a doctor for crying out loud! Don't try and offer me five different kinds of additional products/services when I am continuously saying "no, just what my insurance pays." Then he is recommending I advise my employer to install anti-glare screens on my computer because of the the reflection. Fine, but don't try and get me to come in and see you again within 6 months for glare effects when I know I only need to visit the eye doctor once I year (I don't have any conditions that require two annual visits). But really, the majority of my disappointment was the office staff. One of the gals (I will withhold names) was talking on the phone about her sister (and/or boyfriend) being in jail and getting bailed out and pleading guilty/no contest blah blah blah... Really? Is that what you want your patients to hear? Not very professional. Then they (all three of the office gals) try and up sell the heck out of me between additional exams/procedures/tests and sunglasses to go with my contacts and glasses etc etc. Mind you this is after repeatedly saying that I didn't want to spend more than what my insurance covered. Un-real. Finally, consultation over, and I go home with my contacts. At this point, I wasn't going to go straight to Yelp to review. I was over it and didn't have the desire to give them more of my time. But here were are (a couple months later) on Yelp. "Why?" you ask? Well I was lucky enough to have a bill come to my home for services rendered that, not only did I not agree to, but that I didn't even HAVE DONE TO ME!!!! After a few phone calls, the issue was resolved, but my experience was seriously unpleasant from beginning to end. I will never come back to this place and the only reason they get one star is because it's the Yelp "default" star! *****UPDATE***** 6/24/2009 In reply to Dr. Justin's comment: I have replied to Dr. Justin off line and provided him further details to show I was in fact a patient at his practice. For the record, my post is 100% legitimate and a real representation of my experience. And rather than use a wonderful tool like Yelp in a proactive manner and attempt to better their business practices with it's information, I find it rather unprofessional that this Dr. would choose to publicly question the validity of my review simply because I would not identify myself. Just picked up my brand new glasses today! I have been to this practice on a few occasions and am happy to say that I had a pleasant experience here! This practice used to belong to Dr. Kidder and Dr. Slosar but since have been bought out by Dr. Michaels. All three doctors are amazing O.D.s. I have never had a complaint about any of them. Dr. Michaels is extremely helpful and informative. He treats me and all other patients with genuine care and courtesy. He made recommendations on certain vitamins for my dry eye condition which have helped a lot! Their staff is very warm and welcoming. From the front desk window to the optical staff, everyone has been super helpful and very honest about their opinion on my frame selection. Not once did I feel like I was being pushed into a sale or being taken advantage of. I got a pretty basic pair of glasses and didn't spend a whole lot. Just as I had requested. I just read the review below and cannot imagine their practice being as bad as Mimi says. Again, on the numerous occasions I have come to visit for exams, follow-ups, and picking up glasses, I have not had any of those issues. I highly recommend this office for your eye care needs if you live in the South Orange County area. I have also been to a few places in the OC since moving here over 5 yrs ago and feel I've "struck gold" coming here! I went to get a new prescription for my contact lenses and ordered a pair of glasses! Dr. Michaels was so nice and helpful. He gave me new contact lenses for longer lasting hydration because my eyes would get dry after a while of wearing CLs. Now I wear my contacts with full all-day comfort! All their staff are so sweet and inviting. Nick, the optician, was really informative and helped me choose the perfect, most comfortable glasses I've had. Overall, I love visiting their office. What a fantastic find!! While using Yelp to cross reference eye care suggestions from VSP, Yelp popped up a recommendation of South County Eye Care. With such great reviews I felt really confident making an appointment with them. I am SO glad that I did! What kind and welcoming people! Avi did all my preliminary testing and she was so sweet. Very thorough testing! Really cool machines. The most thorough exam I've ever had (though admittedly, haven't had many). Dr. DeMoss is so nice and helped me out a lot by explaining why my eyes felt the way that they did and how glasses would help me out. She is such a nice doctor, truly. Cynthia helped me with ordering glasses at the end of my exam and estimating costs with insurance. Two weeks later Ralph helped me with the first of my new glasses that had come in. He helped me fit them and let me know I could come in at anytime if I felt I needed adjustments. Going back tonight to pick up my second pair and I really look forward to continuing annual visits with the team here! If you don't mind paying a little extra on top of your exam, I would give the Optomap test a try vs. dilating your eyes. Pretty cool technology. read more

How to NOT get pink eye but think you have it: Be allergic to cats. Rub cat dander into your eye. Go to sleep. Wake up and look in the mirror. It's awesome - your eye will be so inflamed that it looks like there's a layer of jelly on top of your eyeball. Nice and red. Don't worry - it goes away in a few hours. But not without the early morning office hours of this awesome optometric group! They were one of the few offices that were open on a Saturday. I called at 8 AM and got an appointment for an hour later. When I went in, I filled out some paperwork and saw a doctor in less than 10 minutes. I thought it was so sweet of the office workers and technicians to not be scared of me, since I would run FAR far away from anyone with pink eye. The optometrist even shook my hand! Now that's just crazy! The technician was funny, though - when she left the room I heard her say to her coworkers in a hushed tone, "she has pink eye!" It ended up being "an acute allergic reaction" and the doctor gave me a very conservative estimate of 2-5 days for my eye to look normal again. (I imagined walking into a classroom of teenagers wearing a pirate-style eye-patch. I figured that would be better than "OMG Ms. T has pink eye!!!!!") Luckily, the doctor put some drops in my eye, gave me a sample to use twice a day for 5 days, and my eye was pretty much cleared up an hour later. It was pink-ish for the rest of the day, but the gooey jelly layer was gone. Yuk, right? read more

I was referred here by a friend and I am glad I made the appt. Dr. DeMoss is wonderful at what she does. They have a great selection of glasses and sunglasses to look at and try on. The one thing I found weird was the additional eye testing for an additional price? I guess I got used to my old ophthalmologist who just did all the testing as a part of my yearly eye care routine. Dr. Michaels and Dr. DeMoss have both treated me over the past year and again last month; I cannot be happier with the compassionate care they provide. I am a long-term patient at South County Eye Care and was very satisfied with the former staff. A change in doctors has taken place seamlessly with several improvements. The doctors are GREAT and they hand-pick their staff to match high expectations. They accept insurance, too. The office and examination technology has been updated to include the latest-greatest electronics. The office has been updated and remodeled to give it a more-open feel for service. (My annual examination was a bit more serious than expected, however a complete examination with a follow up visit more clearly identified my vision. Dr. DeMoss personally called me to explain the results and my future care.) Thorough care and follow up is a staple at this office! They stand behind their eyewear, too! My boyfriend came with me to pick up my prescription sunglasses and is actually jealous of my optometrist office versus his in LA. I was referred here by my cousin who gets is eyes checked annually and was very happy with Dr. DeMoss so I made an appointment with her. The customer service I received when calling in to make the appointment and when I arrived to check in was amazing as everyone on staff is super friendly. Dr. DeMoss' bedside manner was on point too - I ended up recommending a co-worker (who has had eye problems her whole life) and she loved her too. The girl who helped me pick out my sunglasses was super patient with me and helped me pick out some fun frames. When I came to pick them up a few weeks later, the buyer who purchased them happened to be in the office and couldn't wait to see me try them on. The staff who was there that day all said they've been waiting to see who would end up getting them and were all happy for me. Who would have thought you could have that time of service at an optometrist office? I got a Groupon for this place, and it was such a nice experience! I'm new to the whole "Groupon" thing, and wasn't sure how it would be or if you get the full sha-bang, but it was great & I got the full customer service! It was a tiny bit hard to find (just remember hen you turn right on Lake Ctr, it's immediately on the left), but the receptionist answered the phone & was so helpful guiding me right to their door. BTW, I love companies who have LIVE people answering the phones and not a recording!!! (Especially if you ever get lost!) The staff was so nice & friendly, and I took all the normal eye tests, plus a few new ones. You can pay extra to do a couple others, but I didn't venture and they didn't pressure. Dr. Demoss was so nice! She really listened and did such a thorough checkup. She explained my vision and some options. She then turned me over to Cathy, who patiently helped me walk around, trying on different frames. I chose a pair, but then called later to change, and it was no problem at all. Front desk/receptionist lady to I made my appointment with was extremely knowledgeable about pricing. None of that "well it depends" crap. They had a chart with prices, so you know they're not making stuff up. Kathy/Cathy is amazing. I wish she could be at all my doctor's appts everywhere I go. Extremely warm and welcoming. Helped me pick out a pair of glasses, answered all my questions when I was about to leave because of the male asian optician. NOTE: he is brash and made me want to leave the clinic immediately. He is not doing the office a service. In relation to other doctors I've been to, Dr. Michaels was ok. Got the job done, but I wouldn't return just for him. Other doctors I've been to recommend things like pills (not to sell to me, but I should get my own), tricks for using the computer, etc. Dr. Michaels didn't offer friendly information, unless I asked two-three times about issues I was having. Frames and lenses were above average prices, but not extreme. Exam prices were very fair. Conclusion: I would not return for Dr. Michaels. Kathy is so great as much as the asian male is horrible. So they cancel each other out. And to return because the receptionist is great is not reason enough. read more

This review is for eyeglasses only, as I did not get my exam done here. I came here in search of some nice designer frames as the optometrist I went to for my exam had a lousy selection of glasses. I was pleasantly suprised by South County's wide selection of designer glasses and happy that they are open two Saturdays a month. I ordered a really pretty pair of Kate Spade glasses and anti-glare lenses, and they came in about 6 days, which was under the week timeframe that they quoted me. When I got home, I noticed that my right lens was cracked. It was annoying to go back a second time and wait another week for my glasses while they were being fixed. After my purchase and being inconvenienced, I found the same frames at multiple stores for a much better price. read more

They had a great selection of frames and sunglasses. I went in for just a contact exam and got the whole package all at a great discounted price. The doctor was very thorough and attentive. I dont usually feel comfortable with new doctors but he was very friendly and knowledgable. He took his time to recommend and explain everything thoroughly about any kind of questions i might of had. Also noticed all the machines were very high tech and new, nothing ive seen at my previous doctors office and that's a big plus. Their staff was friendly and welcoming to me as a first time client. Candace explained every machine and made sure I knew what the whole process entailed. She even knew not to tell me what the pressure machine was so I would do good readings since I told her I have really fast reactions. :) Dr. Demoss was friendly and explained everything too. She was great! She also made sure that my insurance was handled correctly and since i have horrible vision, that my contacts were filed under "medically necessary" and would be 100% covered under insurance.
