Meh. Went for their soft opening which was pretty good. I've previously ordered their entree and had a bite of their pizza. Friends and coworkers ordered the steak sandwich and salad and were impressed. Back for their breakfast this time around and not super impressed. The wait for food to come out is ridiculously long for eggs and potatoes. It's suspicious and I'm not sure why. Also, we came right when the doors opened at 8am and saw someone's shoes and other items on the table closest to where the line for folks goes. I commented to my husband "ew someone is totally inconsiderate and gross if they're gonna eat there..." Not 2 minutes later, the guy who worked there stopped by to pick up his worn shoes from the table and other belongings and went to the back. Yuck. No wipe down of table before another guest sat down. I like their theme of freshness but please work out the kinks of dining in for guests and ramp up the morning speed if you expect folks to come back for breakfast... Breakfast food is supposed to be quick and fast, 25 mins and counting and my order still hasn't come out and I've got more than enough time to write this Yelp review. Yikes. Part 2: Food came! I love the food here. It's sob fresh and doesn't make you feel gross after eating. They have some eclectic eating combinations. I got the farmers salad #2. It was watermelon radish, goat cheese, chicken , strawberries and corn. My husband got the grass fed steak bowl with garlic mashed and green salad my kid loves the chicken plate and my other loves the pizza. It's a little pricier than other dinners but well worth it.i did try their ginger peach lemonade which sounded delish but entirely too much ginger. This place used to be fine. Just started coming back to the office after 2 years and this place has gone down hill. Picked up my to go order and asked for a bag. The woman working the expediter area was so extremely rude from go i felt like I was being punked. I asked for a bag. She just said No. that's it. I asked why not. Her response: because you only have one plate of food. I said, so? What am I supposed to just carry this to my car and to my office and up stairs etc. She said yes. By this point her attitude was getting to me, so I asked to speak to a manager. At which point she threw a bag at me and said "here." I said let me speak to your manager. To which she refused. And then refused to give me her name. I left and called. Spoke to a manager and told him my experience. Apparently they've recently instituted this new policy of one order = no bag. Even if you ask for one. If I'm paying $15 for lunch and running back and forth between my desk and this place, I think you can spare a 3 cent bag. Train your employees (this person's attitude was completely uncalled for, but I guess she's probably tired of having to defend such a stupid policy - I'm CERTAIN I'm not the only one who's given issue with this). Tuesday is our Modern Market dinner day. It has become my every Tuesday dinner local for my family and will be for sometime. Love almost everything we've ordered here but the Lemongrass Tuna and the BOMB! The level of flavor and taste are so all over the place, making this one of the best dishes I've had from a quick-food restaurant. Dining in I typically enjoy one of the great beers they have. I really liked it here! My best friend started working at the Phoenix location so I thought it would be a great time to give Modern Market a try. She recommended the Blueberry Pesto Sandwich which was delicious. I really liked the combination of the mozzarella cheese and the blueberry. Got the curried salmon grain bowl and portions were very good and food was not out of this world good but definitely "pretty good." This in and of itself would merit something like a 4 star review. However, I was setting myself up to dip into my curry with the provided spoon only to find the pictured utensil. This spoon was clearly washed in a more hurried state, with hard, stuck-on crumbs of a previous meal indicating as such. This place continues to go downhill. I used to love it here. The food used to be very fresh and the menu exciting to order from. They changed the menu a while back and the food coming out of the Arboretum location is just awful. Tonight, our flat-iron steak was overcooked, grey, and chewy (like eating a leather boot), with no seasoning or flavor. It didn't even look like flat-iron steak, with the flank steak membrane having to be cut away. Yeah, it looked like flank steak, not a flat-iron steak. What's the difference you ask? They are different cuts of meat. The flat-iron steak is cut from the chuck primal--the shoulder area of the cow--a flank steak is cut from the belly muscle, called the flank primal. Now the menu does say FLATIRON salad, with mixed greens, "100% grass-fed steak". Maybe that's their way of being able to substitute any "grass-fed steak" in the FLATIRON salad. That would be at the very least deceptive. One should not be substituted for the other and mislabeled. That's what we call "fraud". The garlic mashed potatoes tasted of dish soap. My salad had old wilted and nasty looking "spring" lettuce in it. Honestly, I can't imagine a worse dinner experience and haven't had one this bad in a long time. ...and what happened to the local beer selections??? I try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt when possible, but we were served multiple raw items. Both pizzas we ordered were incompletely cooked (see photo of raw dough). Cookie we ordered was also partly raw. The food itself (that was cooked properly) wasn't great. Tasted like watered-down cafeteria food, but food that doesn't taste good doesn't even bother me too much (you can't cater to every taste bud - and I don't expect to like everything I try - I won't take off stars because a dish happens to not match my taste buds) . But getting served multiple raw items suggests this is a persistent occurrence here. Really disappointed we were served uncooked dough on multiple items. What's sad is the pizza had the best flavor out of anything - though once we realized the dough was raw after eating the first slice - we didn't eat more. One of the best meals I've had in a long time! (If you're from LA, this is the closest you'll get to Lemonade LA.) They do plates, salads, and sandwiches, and use healthy but delicious ingredient combos. I'd been craving a sandwich and mac and cheese ever since I moved and this meal hit the spot. Blueberry pesto sandwich (I added chicken) was delicious. The mac and cheese was yummy - nothing fancy, just a good mac and cheese. I'm not sure how this place gets away with using the slogan, "So Fresh, So Green". My partner and I both got salads and there was nothing "fresh" about them. The portion sizes are sad for the price point, not to mention it's just BAD food. How do you screw up a salad?! Wilted, chewy, old lettuce/ingredients and strange ratios of ingredients will do the trick. We stumbled upon this place and regret wasting 20$ on two (I'm going to call them sides) salads. I usually don't like getting avocado toast at restaurants just because I feel like it's so easy to make at home for a much better value? But the everything avo toast had lox, red onion, dill and spice which made it different from your typical avocado toast. It had a savory/creamy but fresh taste. Not too heavy, but filling enough so you are satisfied. The smoky Chicken (I was disappointed because it wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as the yelp pictures haha) was good! If I'm being really honest, the chicken didn't LOOK that fresh when they first served it so I was skeptical (it's the main reason why I give this place 4 stars instead of 5). But everything tasted really good, and the sauce and ingredients they use are low calories. Everything is well seasoned and cooked. It's a good place if you're trying to find new options. I'm not usually one for salads, but I gotta say, the flatiron salad at Modern Market is one great exception. The steak is perfectly tender,the balsamic vinaigrette goes great with it, and the caramelized onions are some of my favorite. This time around, I did the half and half with the flatiron salad and the Tender Belly BLT+A, and the pork was definitely tender. My friend got the Superfood Salad with chicken, and she raved about it. Modern Market has great portion sizes, so don't ever worry about leaving hungry! Definitely a great bang for your buck to eat here. It's simplistically decorated and gives off a clean vibe, and every worker that I've interacted with has been extremely friendly. Another thing that I really love about this place are their receipts! What? Their receipts? Why would I like the piece of paper that reminds me how much money I just spent? Well, on each of their receipts, they print out all the nutrition information for your order! It's great for anyone that's health conscious or just curious about their meal intake. Staff was not out front and had to wait for people to come out of the back and when they did there was no greeting or anything. Just stared at us until we ordered.
