This place should not do deliveries. My driver's attitude was as if I didn't tip him enough. I gave him the standard 20% as well as paying a delivery fee! So, I'm paying $10 whole dollars for my $25 worth of food to be driven 2 miles and a crappy attitude (I work as a server and have done much more for much less). Average. I had the superfood salad, along with a cup of the tomato basil soup, and I found them to be pretty good. But, average, nonetheless. The whole cafeteria vibe with a more "conscious selection" of foods is a cool concept, but I feel for them to really pull it off, they will have to raise the bar a notch or two and really start going all "we're gonna tell you exactly where every ingredient in your meal comes from if you want to ask, and even if you don't, we're gonna post it on that blackboard over there" on their customers. Instead, I got the feeling that Modern Market was using that idea to try to sell something they're not actually delivering. Calories and macronutrient breakdown on my receipt? Gimmicky, in my opinion. Farm to table concept without telling me where my chicken is from? I'm not sold. I know I'm being snobby here, but I'm not trying to be. I'm just trying to make a point of, if you're going to present yourself as something, live up to it all the way. Or, market yourself as you are. A "healthy" chain eatery. Nothing more. I love this place to eat. We have been several times with my kiddos and have loved the food. My two stars are because I used the app to pay today and it charged me for two purchases. I went back to show the cashier and manager and they basically said there was nothing they could do but I could email the app company. This was not my error and I really wish the management had made a better effort to help and correct the mistake. It makes me less likely to come. I have two small children and the last thing I need is to have another "to-do" in my week. On a customer service side I wish they had done more to value and care for their customers. read more

The owners seem not to understand how lines work, you have to press past people to get to the register, then backtrack to squeeze past the people in line once you're done ordering. Make sure you are very explicit with your order. If you want a whole sandwich, tell them, otherwise they'll only give you half. The half sandwich I eventually received was just ok. read more

Came into Mod Market at 8:45. They close at 9:00. I ordered a pizza, salad and a Root Beer. I asked for a plastic cup and walked over to get some ice but the machine didn't look like it was working. There was a sign that I didn't read and asked a young lady behind counter if the ice wasn't working. Without looking up she says that's why theirs a sign there flippantly. Taken aback by her rudeness I then asked her if she could get some ice and she just walked away. After I sat down and voiced my displeasure the manager and employee start talking about me in earshot. Wow. Nice service. Service in Boulder is a thing of the past. If restaurants want to survive in a pandemic this is not the way. Pissed off. read more

I ordered the steak bowl with sweet potato mash and steamed veggies. The flavor was really great as always but 1/3 of my meat was so raw I couldn't eat it. The veggies were also very undercooked. Wandered into this shopping complex looking for a lunch spot and found this gem. Had the half sandwich:half salad and loved it. Tomato basil soup-very fresh and very tasty then the Thai coconut salad. Next time I'll get the full salad as the greens and dressing were absolutely delicious. Modmarket makes some dang tasty stuff for a good price and in a reasonably fast time. I love that they have such a large menu full of seasonal sandwiches, salads, and soups in addition to the pizzas they make. I also like that they put the nutritional facts on all the menus so you know going in that even though you're ordering a hummus sandwich it contains almost 700 calories. Speaking of the hummus sandwich, it's on the toasted menu which meant the bread was toasted, not the whole sandwich. That confused me a little, but in the end I was happy my hummus didn't come out hot. I was also happy that it was garlicky enough to be almost spicy. The sandwich was served on a ciabatta roll with an edamame hummus, feta, cucumbers, spring mix, tomato, and dill dressing. And for me it was big enough to make two meals - half for lunch one day and half the next. Beyond the food I love, love, love the Boylens soda machine and if soda isn't your thing they have a nice selection of other beverages including a very good lemonade. All in all I think Modmarket is a nice option for a quicker lunch and I'd definitely head here again when in the mood for a casual, quick meal. read more

I like the concept, fresh fast food, but in an attempt to be modern and sleek, they've made a generally uncomfortable Ikea- like environment. I also found my food to be a bit staurated in vinegar and oils. Its popular, so they must have a lot of devotees, but I found the scurry and chaos a bit off-putting. The modmarket makes me sad because the food has so much potential. Unfortunately, more often than not I leave feeling disappointed. The pizza is usually undercooked, greasy, and soggy. Sogginess seems to be a characteristic of all of the food at the modmarket wether it is pizza, salad, or sandwich. Couple the bad food with a staff that is most often rude and apathetic and dirty glasses and silverware and the modmarket earns itself one star. I think the mod market has a high rating because people are attracted to the sleek interior and the promise of fresh local food. But I have been there enough times for the initial luster to ware off and expose the reality of the food and service which is not very good and in no way "fresh" tasting. read more

I had the margherita (M'rita) pizza and it was very lacking. Maybe my fault, since this probably isn't the place you should go if you want a really good pizza. Very uneven placing of mozzarella and even the sauce was missing on a few slices, while heaped on other slices. There were maybe three pieces of basil on the entire pizza. I do like their dough, but this pizza was very poorly made. Definitely go with a salad or sandwich. read more

I used to love mod market but they switched to using so much plastic now it's really disappointing. You can't even get water in a reusable cup anymore. They used to serve soup in a waxed paper cup if you got it to go but now it's all plastic and melts into your soup. They try to act like they are a healthy alternative to fast food but it's not a healthy alternative if you are constantly adding more and more plastic waste into the environment everyday. Plastic breaks down into micro plastics that contaminate our water, our food and millions of other animals as well. Stopped here for a late lunch, and loved it. The selection was huge! We both got salads although the pizza looked very appealing. I appreciated that they ask if you want the dressing heavy, light or on the side, which I would have forgotten to request if they had not asked. Ingredients were fresh and delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised that a small was still huge. I was pleasantly pleasantly surprised. The place looks hip as hell and you almost feel like you're in a nightclub that P Diddy frequents. They constantly change their menu when new fresh ingredients come in, which I appreciate. Sure sometimes you'll show up and that thing you liked isn't going to be on the menu anymore but there's enough tasty treats that it won't much matter. I couldn't decided between a few sandwiches and a few pizzas and eventually selected a pepe pizza. The pepperoni was outstanding. This place knows how to do fast casual and not make it feel like you're not just another ticket in a hard plastic booth that groan at serving. A quick tip though, the sodas taste a little weird. The root beer reminded me of cough syrup and the cola tasted wonky as well. They're Boylan's, which I thought I liked, but maybe it was an off night. Just be wary. read more

We came here on Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm. It was busy and bustling and food looked fresh. We ordered a chicken caesar salad and chicken basil sandwich. Both were tasty and we were impressed by the calorie count and claim that there is no added anything. Definitely good for how healthy and tasty it was. The chicken on the salad was a bit dry. I was put off by the fact that I checked in a moment after my husband's credit card was rung up and when I showed the cashier the check-in for a 10% yelp deal, she mentioned it would "only be a $1 savings". It wasn't a big deal and I should have showed her the deal before paying, but I thought it was inconsiderate of her to mention what the savings would be and to minimize the significance of it. I really liked ModMarket! I liked their Wintergreen salad (no meat for me), and their vegan cashew butternut squash soup (though not my fav, it was pretty good, and very low calorie). I tried my husband's tomato soup and half vegan pizza (nice crisp crust & yummy toppings), and I liked those too. I love that they have vegan offerings, and plenty of vegetarian offerings as well. Not too hard for a place that does salads & pizza, but regardless, I like it. I also liked the Boylan's soda fountain (what a great idea!). I loved the Nutricate receipts, because I often count my calories (or try) and this place makes it easy peasy. I wish more places would do that (but a lot probably are too ashamed or don't want you knowing what's in your food). There wasn't anything I didn't like. I would definitely go back to ModMarket, and I recommend you check it out if you're in Boulder! It's a very unique place, and the food is healthy & yummy. This is another place that is all the buzz around town, I know people who consider this to be one of their favorite restaurants. I have no idea why. The guy at the counter was obviously bothered by our existence, which made us nervous to ask him any questions about the menu. I thought it was just "okay," and really I wanted to ask for a refund and give the food back. The pizza was pretty bland, no real flavor to it at all. The steak was mediocre, nothing special, no flavor. We got the brownies and they were as hard as a rock, we were laughing and banging them on the table. There's a lot of buzz around this place, which is why I popped in earlier today. The menu is fairly split between salads and pizza. Considering that salad isn't real food (three out of scientists will attest to this fact), I opted for a pizza. I ordered the Pepe, which is basically a pepperoni pizza. It was tasty but soggy. I wish the crust had been much crispier. Not like a saltine, but something a bit firmer. The presentation was awesome - the pizza was served on a large wooden board that remained at the table with me, emitting a friendly, wooden ambiance to my meal. The place itself is a marvel of style and decor. It felt like the milk bar from the movie "A Clockwork Orange." Very white with thoughtful lighting touches. In all, the food is tasty if not perfect and the setting is rare and unique. Not too expensive either. One other thing I'll mention - the hand dryer in the men's room is INCREDIBLE. Why can't more restaurants be like Modmarket? I love to indulge in decadent meals as much as the next gal, but when I want to eat out and know that I'm doing something good for my body it's great to know that Modmarket is always a great option. Their food is whole, delicious and nourishing. Their salads and soup make traditional burger and fries seem downright tasteless and bland and their wide variety on the menu has something to please everyone. I went to Modmarket for the first time yesterday, after overdosing on Chipotle, Smashburger and larkburger it was time for something new and fresh. Since I live near campus and I am always in the parking lot I decided to stroll on over (because Nordstroms Rack was filling the parking lot) to modmarket. I had read some reviews and I like to see the fresh ingredients etc etc etc. I went there with my girl, she got a salad (the Flatiron) and I got a ciabatta sandwich (chipotle Chicken). the guy making the salad was slow as molasses, there were 3 people ahead of us in the salad line, 2 eventually decided not to get a salad because of the wait. When we finally got to the front, my girl showed me the small sign that said "sandwich orders please go to register". I guess if the lady in front of us hadn't blocked it, and I was a regular I would have known that. It does seem weird that if it were two people and one was getting a salad and the other getting something else that you would pay for both, while the one person would have their salad the the person with the sandwich would be waiting. Anyway...... So she got the small salad, and boy they were not lying about that, it was about 1 cup of mixed greens, 3 oz or so of some old rubbery looking steak and some cheese. Despite that she said it was amazing and had great flavor, my remark to that was, for $8 and that small it had better be the best salad ever! As for my sandwich, ($7.50), it was just ok, the chicken was some diced flavorless chicken (good as a base I guess), then there was a really good chipotle aioli (flavored garlic mayo to the novice) and a slice of what appeared to be Monterrey jack cheese, the menu said Parmesan, but that would have been some of the smoothest melty-ist Parmesan I have ever seen, then some field greens and 2 slices of "tomato". I know they were using an oven to toast it, but it took about 8-9 minutes from the time I ordered it to the time my buzzer went off. The good parts, the bread is amazing, I have always been a fan of Ciabatta, it was moist in the center and crunchy on the outside (although you could tell the top and bottom were not from the same piece of bread). The aioli was good, and it needed to be good to give that poor chicken some life. the bad, the chicken as I said earlier was small diced dry chicken, maybe it was "roasted" in their oven, but I think grilling it with some salt and pepper on the grill would give it better depth of flavor and add some smoky-ness to compliment the smoked pepper of the aioli. My poor pickle, I guess it had a bad night, it was almost snapped in half and looked like it had been scrapped or cut with a knife, as a fan of a good pickle this was disappointing, if you are going to put a pickle on the plate, make it look nice, not like an after thought and broken. My overall impression..... After looking at some other reviews I can see that Modmarket has improved leaps and bounds. For me to give it the 5 stars and for me to be an every other day customer (a la chipotle) they would need to speed up the service, make it flow smoother, (don't have one person order their salad and wait by the salad station and the other order a sandwich and have to pay for both and find a seat, only to have to wait again while the sandwich is made and the person is eating their salad.), look at the pricing structure, I know fresh veggies are not cheap, but if other places can offer fresh seasonal veggies on a salad bar for a reasonable price, Modmarket can too. the one cup of lettuce and grilled steak for $8 was just too much for me to not say anything. I think if they are looking at the same price as their competitors a nice salad should cost about a buck less, maybe even mix the spring mix with some romaine to help offset the cost of spring mix. The sandwich would be about $5.50 or maybe $6, it wasn't anything exotic or high prices, it was 3-4 of chicken, a roll, some mayo, spring mix (10 leaves?) and 2 slices of tomato. The place itself was very Mod, reminds me of being in an Ikea, but the name is confusing to me. I thought for the longest time Modmarket was a furniture store or something not food related. It was for sure bright, fresh and airy. Maybe can I get a real glass for my water though? I am taking the time to write such a long review because I want to go here a lot, so take it as a compliment. read more

Great restaurant of organic farm-fresh fare. A lot like Tender Greens in California. Lots of options to choose from as far as salads and sandwiches are concerned. Clean and bright decor. The color white dominates the walls and stools with accents of a light wood, also on walls and tables. Great place to catch up with a friend, or grab a quick bite after shopping at the mall. Not a place you wanna go on a date or to a nice dinner. Though minimal elegant decor it's very casual. Fair prices reflect the casualness of the atmosphere. Non fat-free dressing. But low fat yogurt dill sounded quite refreshing. You can get your dressing either heavy, medium, light or on the side. I could see myself being a regular if I lived in the area. Nothing too gourmet or super special but you get flavorful ingredients made to order and served fast for when you are on the go. The food here is good, the atmosphere is very "mod", and the drink selection is very unique. The prices were reasonable, and the service was pretty good. Overall a good experience. I do, however, resent the preachy "eat food that won't make you fat" thing. Living in Boulder gives me enough of a complex about my curves. The last thing I need is for the place where I want to buy food to make me feel self conscious, too. If ModMarket can work on not alienating its clientele I think they may be around in Boulder for a while to come, which would be great for both, frankly. read more

To be perfectly honest when I first walked in this place I was ultra creeped out. It's stark white and also reminds me of A Clockwork Orange in all it's modern white furniture glory and a long strip on the wall with fake grass in it. It was also a lot like walking into that Wonka room where they blow up candy bars. The food is fresh and advertises "Real food" as opposed to fake food. You can get soups, salads, sandwiches and pizza. If you're gluten-free this is probably the place to be. I got an Arugala Mozz sandwich and it was decent. Not a lot of flavor to it. My friend got a Simple Green salad and the Regular size is actually quite large. The receipts are interesting because they are Nutricate Receipts and tell you the nutritional value of some of the stuff you get. And if you're a fatty they also total up everything you order for you. Talk about encouraging people to be even more of a health nut! This place is THE place to eat a great gluten free pizza or get a great salad with fresh local, in season ingredients. My favs are the Wintergreen salad, I even like (some) goat cheese now, and the Pom pizza. Dang I knew I shouldn't have written this review so near to dinnertime. Now I'm craving some ModMarket. Dang. The decor is fun, hip and modern without being cold and industrial (Chipotle). Also, I am impressed with their involvement in the community. From striving to buy locally raised meat and produce, to their fundraising for local groups. Last thing: Sign up on their email list, they don't pester you with emails but every once in awhile you'll get a secret deal. Very cool and very unique place. They serve salads, soups, sandwiches and flatbread pizzas made from fresh ingredients. The menu changes based on what ingredients are in season and available at any given moment. I had a green chicken chili soup and a pepperoni pizza and both were outstanding. The service is like many fast casual places - you place your order and take a number and they bring your food to your table (unless you order a salad in which case they'll make it in front of you). Depending on your party, the seating might be a bit inconvenient. They have one giant bench that goes along the entire right wall of the restaurant with a bunch of small tables with one chair each on the other side. If you have a large party you'd need to push a bunch of these tables together (if you can find them). If you have a kid (or kids) with strollers there might not be much space for them. There are also a whole bunch of high-top 2-seaters (most of which were empty when I was there). As a bonus, for anyone watching their calories, they list the calories, fat, etc. for whatever you ordered right on your receipt (also shown right on the menu board). read more

I think to truly appreciate mod market you need to have a gluten or dairy aversion/allergy or prefer vegan. Any restaurant establishment that makes an effort to offer delicious options for those of us who do have these aversions/preferences has my attention. Their gluten free pizza crust is DELICIOUS. I had the M'Rita and a bite of the 3 cheese on GF crust (from a friend prior to going in myself). I now know where I can stop in for a quick GF pie! Size is a little small, but I paired with the Farmer salad (sans chicken) for myself and my husband and we were good to go. Their salads are fresh, colorful and decent size. Overall, great healthful food. Prices are right and the menu is simple and clear. I found the staff to be friendly and quick. Went in on a week night around 6pm...had my pizza and salad in less than 15 minutes and there was a steady stream of others both in front and behind me... For a very long time, I thought Modmarket was a furniture store... I don't often go into the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, and so I planned (more than once) to go in and look at furniture. The name really threw me off. Having gotten that off my chest, let me say that I know for a fact now they don't sell furniture. They do, however, make delicious food. They offer a lot of fresh, organic food in the style of Noodles and Mad Greens (actually their selection of salads is quite similar.) Not being a salad person, I always opt for the sandwiches and wraps, specifically the Arugula Mozz, which I can't seem to resist. It's the perfect blend of mozzarella, tomatoes, and balsamic vinaigrette. It's knee weakening. They also have some great pizzas. I know this because I always steal a bite...or two...from the little girl I nanny for-so the pizzas are kid approved! And for adults, they serve a selection of beer and wine.
