This place? Never again! I am pretty open minded and I like helping out small businesses but this place was horrible. It is close to where I live and I was in dire need to get my eyebrows waxed so I stopped by and gave it a try. That trip wasn't too bad so I decided to come back and try to get my nails done. I got a spa pedicure and she talked me into trying the gel manicure. My mom is actually Vietnamese and although I can't speak it fluently, I know enough. I kept that a little secret since I like to see what may be said about me. Sure enough one of their regulars came in and the girl doing me pedicure was not only making comments about the other lady to her coworkers but she also quietly said things to be about the other customer's personal life...like what a cougar she was. I kind of laughed it off and decided to just not listen to what she said. I'm not sure why i went back but I did. This time I got a regular pedicure and wanted a new gel set on my nails. When she had soaked my nails to take off the old gel, she wasn't patient and was literally SCRAPING it off of my nails. It hurt and was so uncomfortable that I decided if that is what I have to go through then I'd rather just get a regular manicure (I have been to other places now and it's definitely not suppose to be painful). She made comments to her coworker about how cheap I was being and they wanted to charge me extra for taking off the gel. By that time I just wanted to finish what I came in for, leave, and never come back. When I finally went to get my last service done which was getting my eyebrows waxed, she said something that really set me off. Half way through the process she asked me " oh you tried to do your eyebrows yourself huh?" I replied that I hadn't and asked why she would say that. Her response was that there was a little piece of hair missing off the corner of my eyebrow. ARE YOU 'EFFING kidding me? The last time I had them done was there and it was fine. So now obviously she messed it up and decided to try to blame it on me. I don't think so! Like I said.. this place if horrible!! Service, quality and professionalism is a joke. I am not the least bit surprised by all the negative reviews for this place, they are all very consistent with my experience. I purchased two Groupon vouchers for eyelash extensions. First impression of the place when you walk in is dirty and unhygienic because the table where you have to lay down for the eyelash extensions has old eyelashes scattered on it. They move from one client to the next with the same set of eyelashes scattered all over the table. The people who work here are extremely rude and unprofessional especially the person who is the manager. She spoke on the phone the entire time while doing the extensions and yes she put glue in my eyes and I felt a strong burning sensation. The only chit chat she had with me was to ask for the price of my shoes and handbag. I was not particularly thrilled with the first service and only returned to simply use the second voucher. After the extensions were done I noticed a gap in the eyelashes. I asked her about it and she curtly responded "we don't make mistakes." She did not make any attempts to fix the gap and mumbled in Vietnamese to her coworker. Even though this was a touch-up she charged me $35 more than the person on the table next to me who was getting a touch-up as well. She tried to whisper the pricing to the other client to keep me from learning about the price difference. They do not have pricing posted anywhere and are random in quoting pricing. I gave her the second Groupon voucher as payment for the service. She became very upset and refused to accept it and told me she only accepts the Groupon voucher for the first service. I assured her that I had spoken to Groupon and the voucher could be used at its face value for touchups and if there was a price difference between the voucher value and the service charge that I would pay the remaining amount in cash. She walked away and left me standing alone at the register. After waiting for a few minutes I realized she was not returning so I went to look for her in the room where they do the eyelash extensions and found her working on another client. I asked her to come back and complete the transaction with me. She then came out and told me she wanted the payment in cash and her exact quote was "I feel like hitting my head on the wall because you are not understanding me..." I stopped her from speaking in that manner and told her I was reasonably intelligent and could understand the mechanics of a Groupon voucher and that she was crossing the line in how she was speaking with me. I asked her to be professional and extend me the basic courtesy of being a client and not speak in this manner. I requested we speak with Groupon together to find out what her reimbursement would be for the voucher, she abruptly took the voucher and walked away. At that point I told her she was extremely unprofessional and that i would not return to this place. Her response was "I hope you don't return." Since there are so many negative reviews with consistent complaints for this place, it will not be a surprise to see them go out of business soon. read more

Terrible lash experience! When I searched Modern nails and Lashes before making a Yelp account I only saw one bad review but if you don't have an account it WON'T show you in detail the rest of the reviews so I thought ok let me try it. My best friend and I went there it seemed sketchy this lady stared at us for about 30 minutes then the lash lady came out. While I was getting my lashes done my best friend got a pedicure which was sub par. I was nervous I'm a young college student and I do hair and makeup on the side eyelash extensions seemed to be the easiest instead of constantly buying fake lashes, I got the mink lashes as she was applying them they were burning I thought it's probably because I had to take my makeup off. When she was done they were still burning and watering but they looked pretty but too heavy and felt like synthetic lashes. During Week One; week my eyes were swollen when I called the first time she said "oh it's fine you're new to them", so being naive I was like alright. Week Two: they became more swollen and my natural lash was falling out with the fake lash I panicked and kept calling and she wanted me to come in I was too scared because at that point I knew something was wrong and didn't want to go back at all! So I talked to two other eyelash technicians and they recommended I get them removed. Miss Liz the lady who saved what lashes I had left and removed the fake ones, said I was one of the HARDEST cases she's ever had removing eyelashes, she said that the lady who put them on attached them to my eyelids which is a HUGE NO NO, and that they were applied in clusters which is also bad, and I didn't realize how damaged my lashes are now until I stood up and started balling. I barely have that many now, I called Modern nails and lashes balling because I was so angry so she asked me come in, I was upset and crying and demanded my money back she kept saying "she knew what she was doing" and didn't know what went wrong maybe the fact that she doesn't know how to apply lashes properly and the glue she uses shouldn't even be sold, I didn't even want an explanation I said I do not care I have no lashes. Luckily somehow unlike the rest of these horror stories I got my money back and then left the store. She then got my number and TEXTED me so unprofessional begging for sympathy asking me to not write a review and then apologizing again, an apology isn't bringing my lashes back or other clients and I thought others needed to know! PLEASE DO NOT GO TO MODERN NAILS AND LASHES In fairfax!!! And I also recommend EyEnvy lash serum for the regrowth of your damaged eyelashes. I wish I would have seen all these bad reviews I would have saved my money and the health of my eyelashes! read more

When I first yelped Modern Nails and Lashes a few months ago, it seemed like a good place to go. I was originally introduced to Modern Nails and Lashed by Groupon. I bought the gel manicure with paraffin wax deal in Early May. When I arrived over there, I wasn't aware that we needed an appointment as most places I go to accept walk-ins but they were nice enough to take me after another lady. While I was waiting, I was asked about lash extensions. I had been contemplating them for quite some time as I have naturally blonde lashes and I've been fed up with mascara lately. The woman and I discussed prices and she said she'd give me the introductory rate of $99 but I could spend a little more to get the mink lashes. Sure, why not. 30 minutes later, I loved my lashes as they were full and dark. After I got beauti-fied, it was time for my gel manicure. It was another woman, older, and she didn't say two words to me the entire time so I entertained myself with Days of Our Lives playing on their only TV. There were a few people showing up while I was getting my manicure so I was moved to another chair to allow for the people with appointments to get situated. After my manicure, she directed me to the counter to pay. I never received my paraffin wax with my manicure but I chalked it up to being a walk-in and paid my dues for the lashes and gave them my groupon. 4 weeks later, I showed up again for a refill. I was still unaware that I needed an appointment at 10:30am on a Friday but again, they were nice enough to squeeze me in. This time I got my lashes, the woman went really fast and it was a little painful. I also heard the rustling of a plastic bag. I kept thinking to myself that I hope she knows I want mink lashes but surely she would know the difference and know what I had put on prior. After she was finished, my lashes looked wonderful again so I paid and left. During the week after my appointment, my lashes were coming off A LOT faster than the first time I had them done. I'm talking clumps. By the end of the week, it looked as if I needed a refill. I attributed this to the fact that I didn't make an appointment and she felt rushed. Took the blame so to speak.. So after the end of two weeks, I returned for my 3rd time with an appointment. The woman went the same speed as the first two experiences except she got glue in my eye. When I told her that my eye was burning and I believed it was glue, she informed me that it couldn't be the glue since it dries on contact. Well it still hurt like hell whatever it was... After she finished with my refill, she fanned my eye to decrease the burning. Once it finally stopped watering and throbbing, I checked out and went on my marry way. Again, the two weeks after my appointment, my lashes were falling out in clumps. I started paying attention to my natural lashes and they were almost completely gone at this point. I started to research more on mink and synthetic lashes at this point. Not only did I pay extra for synthetic lashes but I was also paying for gobs of glue to reinforce these things onto my eyelids. When I read the yelp reviews again, apparently this is the way they do their business. My poor natural lashes has been completely damaged and I had to go elsewhere to receive REAL mink lashes. Now I know the difference and will never return to modern nails and lashes. Ladies, please be warned. Go to an establishment that knows what their doing and gives you what you pay for. read more

I am completely fed up with Twee the lash technician. I thinks she a crook. First they advertise a price on Groupon and once you get there she tells you things like oh that Groupon is for first time customers only, or that service won't look good on you. Or the lashes aren't included in that price. Etc... Basically she always find ways to squeeze more money out of you. She makes up shit as she goes. Now this is the second time I've been to her and paid way more than expected at the end of my visit. No more. She's starting to do rush jobs my left eye is extremely sore from the glue that kept dripping. And honestly I not sure if these are the "mink lashes" I paid extra 30 bucks for. There hard. And feel kind of like plastic. Reading the other reviews below. I see this is her M.O she won't get another dime of my money! Damn crook. Bad nails. Not professional. Didn't honor appointments on 2 occasions. I can only rate the mani/pedis here, but they don't do a good job. I've had 2 different technicians and the nails look good while they're working on them. But after you leave and get a good look, you realize that when they went over the skin towards the bottom of the nail with the big paintbrush to remove the polish they got on your skin, the brush was too big and held too much polish remover and they removed a couple layers of clear top coat at the bottom of each nail. So, the level is very uneven and looks ragged. If someone's standing a couple feet away from you, it'll look good. But anyone within a couple of feet would be able to see the jagged uneven polish near the bed of your nail. Also, I've made appointments on 2 occasions, and the first time, I made it with Twee, but when I arrived, she didn't feel like working, so she had one of her employees do it instead and proceeded to sit nearby with her other employee and watch shows on her laptop and eat snacks. When I was getting my pedi, they sat at the mani station with their laptop. When I moved on to the mani, they relaxed in the pedi massage chairs to watch their shows and eat. I thought that was pretty odd and unprofessional. She told me she'd do me next time, but I guess that day, she just didn't feel like working. The second appointment I made, I didn't bother making it with Twee, since obviously she doesn't work when she doesn't feel like it. So I just made a simple reservation for 3:00. The lady who took it didn't ask for my name and was about to end the phone call, so I asked "don't you need my name?" and gave her my last name, which I guess she didn't write down, because when I went at my appointment time a few days later, they didn't have it in their books. They ended up seeing me after making me wait half an hour, but they certainly gave me a lot of attitude in the meanwhile. For shoddy nails, bad customer service, unprofessionalism, and iffy appointments, I'd rather frequent one of the other numerous, affordable, friendlier nail salons nearby! read more

Bought a groupon for a gel manicure and paraffin dip for $25. I wish I could have returned it. I called and scheduled an appointment two days in advance. My appointment was the first appointment of the day, 10:00 am when they opened. I got a call at 8:30 am where I was told their technician couldn't come in because her kid was sick. I understand that is something that is out of their control, but then you need to be accountable and open earlier or some sort of rescheduling. She told me this was impossible because they open at 10. Then, she proceeded to tell me there are other nail salons in the area if I wanted my nails done today. You want me to take my business elsewhere because of your issue? Fine. Shortly thereafter, I get a call she wanted to make my appointment 11:30. I was very annoyed due to our earlier conversation and that was going to make me run late, but I already had purchased the groupon so I agreed. The staff was very friendly when I arrived. I was optimistic. It was just her and I there and she immediately started doing my nails even though I had arrived early. I am a 20 year old woman and i do not frequently get my nails done. I feel like this showed to her, as there was little care taken in doing my nails. I didn't get a paraffin dip as my groupon said I paid for - wasn't offered and wasn't given. My nails are messy, there are small items (I have no idea what they are) in my nails that make them bumpy and awkward. There is paint on my fingers, and overall, I just feel like I didn't get my money's worth, which is complete crap because I spent less money by paying on Groupon than paying them directly. Being unaware of how lash extensions are supposed to be properly maintained, I had no idea I was receiving a botched job. She layers the lashes like cluster lashes instead of individual which can lead to permanent lash damage. I got my lashes done on a sturday,by that thursday, I had lost more than 50% on one eye. In sure due to her only spending 25 mins on me. I spent $100 on junk and she stated she would give me a full refund. She gave me only half after 5 days of me calling her . She was rude and unprofessional. I wouldn't give her my business. I had to spend an additional $100 to get her work corrected by a licensed professional. Never again. I have had lash extensions by Twee since May of this year. I love them! I keep going back for refills. They look amazing. I get lots of compliments and they last for about one month. Yes, sometimes she is overbooked but I haven't waited more than 3o minutes and that was one time. Every other time I get right in. Her prices are great and she does the lashes in about 30-40 minutes. Ok so, like an idiot, I bought the gel manicure Groupon before looking at Yelp. And once I read the reviews, I decided to just drop in and see if they would take me without an appointment, which they did since the place was completely empty when I walked in (though I think it screwed some girls who did have appointments shortly after I arrived - sorry ladies!). The salon is very tiny but cute and clean. The lady that did my nails was perfectly nice but hardly spoke any English and even though the color selection wasn't extensive, they had some really nice colors and I love the one I settled on. However, I realized too late that she didn't file my nails evenly and overall they just look sloppy. Finally, the icing on the cake was when the lady next to me asked how much a gel manicure was and was told $27, which is half the price listed on the website and suddenly makes my Groupon look like it wasn't any sort of deal at all (and which I'm pretty sure is against Groupon's policy). Bottom line: I have once again been reminded why I keep going back to MC Nails right up the road. And I have to stop impulsively buying Groupons without checking Yelp first. I bought a groupon for lash extensions. The lady was nice, but the glue kept getting into my eyes and it stung horribly. After the lashes and glue dried, I did like the way looked and felt. They lasted almost two months. However, I went back to get the rest removed and this other lady started arguing with me that I had never been there before and only if I had would they remove the remaining lashes. I had to pull out my checkbook to prove I had gone to their salon. I was a little angry. Aww these low star reviews make me sad. I actually really love this place. I've been coming here for the past 6 months for eyelash extensions. Yes - it's not your typical super fancy upscale salon but I like it, it makes you feel at home. My 4 year old daughter loves coming here to play with the owner's daughter. Owner is nice and personable, always remembers our last conversation. I feel like she is just very blunt and keeps it real, maybe some people just aren't used to that? Anyways, I love my extensions and they are always getting complimented on. As a busy mom, I suck at making "official" appointments but she always does a great job of fitting me in the same day I call. I never have to wait long at all, longest wait time for me was maybe 20 mins max. In summary, if you are looking for a glamorous upscale salon where someone is offering you something to drink every 5 minutes then this is not the place for you. If you don't care about that, then trust this place. Stop being so judgemental. I had an appointment for a manicure and pedicure, and they couldn't find it in their book. The owner kept saying there was no appointment, she couldn't find it, she hadn't taken it. I don't know why she couldn't consider for a second that another woman had taken my appointment down. Instead, she essentially accused me of making it up since if she hadn't taken it, it didn't exist and was SO rude. I wish I had read the other Yelp reviews before going since other customers had similar experiences. The pedi was fine, but mainly because you don't look as closely to feet as you do hands. I arrived at my scheduled time, but was told the lady went out to grab lunch, so I waited for 45 mins until the next lady was available and took me in. they tried to hard sell me with the mink lashes ($30 more) and lash conditioner ($15), was expected the process would take 75mins, but it took 30 mins entirely and during the process, she had to step out twice to take care other customers, i found that to be a little rude. I had lash extensions done before at other places, and the results were great, with what I had this time, i purchased full impression set groupon deal for $99, I even found this to be not worth it, $99 plus tips, the result looked not so natural looking at all, my family and friends were telling me that I looked different with the lashes in a bad way. I used to go here every 2 weeks and loved the place and the people were very very nice but then all of a sudden the work and the attitudes changed. In the past I have recommended them several times but I will no longer do so. I have been trying to find a new place that I like as much as I used to like this one but with no luck so far. I went in today to get a pedicure after having been going to other places for the last 3 or so months, I thought I would give them one last try. First of all there was a new lady there that I had never seen before so I figured I would give her a try. Big mistake! She was slow and not friendly and had no clue what she was doing. i got the pedi with callus removal (my usual) and while there I tried to make conversation with the other ladies who work there because it has been a while since I have been there and they were also quite unfriendly. Now I am home and realizing that my polish looks horrible and that it is smudged and all over my toes and also it was very painful. DO NOT GO HERE! I came here with a Groupon to get eyelash extensions and it was the most horrible experience. First of all, the lady charged me extra for a bunch of stuff and acted really shady. I felt like I was being conned the whole time. Not only that, when I got home, I realized my eyeball was red, swollen, and painful. I had to go to the eye doctor right away and the doctor told me that my eyeball had a large scratch on it and was infected. My eye didn't begin to get better for at least a week. On top of that, the lashes looked horrible. They looked totally fake and made me look very weird and ugly. It has been months since this experience and my eye still has not recovered fully. A friend of mine and I bought the groupon for the $42 Signature Facial (normally $85). We were very excited about getting facials at the same time. After our appointments were made my friend got a call from the owner asking to reschedule sooner. We did. We drove an hour, from Maryland, and arrived to the "spa" about 8 minutes early. The location is a tad sketchy. We walked in and there's hardly a waiting area and many people jammed into the entry waiting to be helped. We were not acknowledged for a few minutes. Long story short - we were asked to come back after 30 minutes because they were backed up. We inquired why we had not received a phone call since we just drove an hour. The facials we not terrible, however I felt rushed and both facials were going on at the same time in the same room. Sadly, the steam was left on my face WAY too long (I am a cosmetologist) and my face is still peeling/flaking from the facial we had 5 days ago. I took pictures on my phone of my burnt/irritated skin. In my opinion this service in not worth the $42 and have no clue how they manage to charge $85 for the normal price. Only thing good about experience was the chairs. We made a appointment for a mani/pedi and when we(myself and my sister)got there there were only two people working and two other people already being taken care of so we had to wait 15mins. Then we gets rushed through so they can finish with the costumers that were there before us. They barley cut my cuticles and I have skin still cuticles snipped and do not look smoothed out. I got a gel as my mani and there was nail polish left on the sides and top of my my nails. I asked for it to be fixed and she tried but then told me it will come off as I wash my hands a few times. I had a severe reaction to lash extensions applied at this spa. The glue burned, the hair was applied directly to my lid and no matter how tight I kept my eyes closed, it felt like something was irritating them. She told me this was normal! I have heard this bf. I told her ab an issue I had years ago and she said the glue thy used was the issue and asked if I was allergic to latex and I told her no. The only reason I attempted lash ex again was to protec my eyes from dryness. I did not try them for beauty, but health reasons. Unfortunately, I lost most of my natural lashes in removing the extensions and my eyes are more dry than before. My vision is still blurry a week later and after I took meds to remove the infection. The owner told my husband this happens all the time and would not refund my money. She even sais it happened to her and suggested I take Benadryl. She offered to remove the lashes but I refused to return. I am concerned that I might have slight permanent damage bc my eyes are constantly irritated, although I am thankful that I can still see. This was my first and needles to say it will be my last experience with them. I also got a sub par polish change and pedicure. The person doing my feet could not do a simple line design, barely cut my cuticles and did not scrub the dryness off my entire foot. I can barely get any work done and feel even more miserable after reading all the bad reviews on Yelp. read more

This is a small little gem in a hidden area of Fairfax. I went there for a massage, facial and pedicure and it was great! It was a Groupon deal and although the massage was only 30 mins, it was fantastic! She did a great job, using hot stones as well as swedish massage! My facial was also amazing - my skin feels and looks wonderful! I think the pedi could use a bit of improvement as there was no leg massage with it and my polish could have been applied better...but nonetheless, I would go back again because the people are extremely nice, honest, and hardworking, particularly Twee!! read more

Okay I'm not sure why the title says Nail Famous. Maybe this was the former name of the salon. But the name when I came was Modern Nails. I came here on a Saturday afternoon because I wanted to utilize the Groupon Now deal which was $26 for a Gel Mani, and I decided to go ahead and get a pedicure while I was there. I called in the morning around 10:30 a.m. which some man answered the phone with just Hello. No Thanks for calling Modern Nails, or Modern Nails or anything. I was really confused and had to ask if the number I was calling was in fact Modern Nails and he said yes. Then I told him I wanted to come in and use my Groupon and asked if they were available, and he said after 3. I didn't want to get it that late so I just said thanks and hung up. I was in the area, so I decided to stop by just to see if they had time. When I walked in the first thing I thought was this place is really small. There were two people doing nails. They had 3 pedi tubs and maybe 4 or 5 mani tables. Quite small. But I also thought, why did he tell me after 3. They seem to have time to do my nails. They were able to take me relatively soon without me waiting too long. They filled my tub up and I looked down and there were a few somethings floating in my water. So I'm a bit of a germ-a-phobe so I told them there was something floating in my water and asked if they would drain it and re-fill it. They obliged, but not before maybe the owner or someone said it was probably lint or dirt or something that was on my feet. Then she proceeded to look at my shoes and say see it was probably this type of stuff. Okay, my shoes were not filled with lint or dirt or anything like that, but even if they were, I don't think its appropriate to tell a paying customer that their feet are probably dirty and thats what was floating in the water. Especially, with people in the salon. It's not a good look. I feel like they should've just drained the water and kept their opinions about my "dirty feet" to themselves. The lady who did my mani and pedi was very nice. She did a good job with my massage and nails etc. The pedi itself was nice, no real complaints there, outside of the floating thing. The mani was okay. I've never had a Shellac Gel Mani. I've had a Shellac, which I thought was the same thing, but the process was a bit different. I do feel like she was quick with the ultra violet light. The last time I got a shellac I had to sit under the uv light for at least 5 minutes in between applications. It seemed like it was a minute at most I was concerned the color would not set correctly. Bottom Line, I probably would not go back here. The only reason I came here was because of the Groupon. They did a decent job, but I would not suggest going here with out some sort of deal. read more

I went to this salon for about 2 years for getting eyelash extensions. I stumbled upon them because I got a groupon and then continued going for my touch ups. The lashes didn't look horrible, but they didn't look great either. They were super long and looked and everybody could tell I had fake lashes on. I once asked the owner if she could put on fewer lashes for a more natural look and she said no because there would be gaps between my lashes and that wouldn't look good (I was so confused). the place is ok, but it is not perfectly clean and the esthetician would multitask while doing my lashes. read more

I had a coupon for a waxing service but had asked if I could use it toward a gel manicure and was told that was fine but I would have to pay $15 extra. I had to reschedule my appointment once for earlier in the day, and when I got there the woman was rude, kept calling me by the wrong name and talking about how I had rescheduled "so many times!" that she thought I was coming on a different day. I asked her about the extra charge for the manicure and she informed me that by not doing the waxing I was forfeiting half of my coupon (at first I just thought that the manicure cost more) and reminded me that she was not making any money off the coupon. I almost left but really wanted a manicure so I stayed. The manicure was awful, she did not do anything to my cuticles, did a horrible job filing my nails, put the gel on so thick my nails looked lumpy, and it was obvious that she was doing this as fast as she possibly could. After I left I immediately went to Modern Nails Inc (they are not affiliated with each other) in Tysons where they removed the gel, were much nicer, and gave me a much better manicure. I bought a Groupon for full set of lashes. She asked me if I wanted mink for an extra $25 so I said sure. It was my first time. She did it in 30 min. (wayyy too fast) and got glue all over my eyes. My eyes were stinging and watering pretty bad. Something was wrong with one of my eyes because every time I blinked I could feel the lashes. Turns out she just gave me the regular lashes and not the mink because when I went to my esthetician for my re-fill she told me. :( I will not go here again and do not recommend it. read more

Like many others I found this place through a Living Social deal. I wanted to try eyelash extensions and didn't want to pay the $300 - $400 price tag that many places charge. The "spa" is kind of a hole-in-the-wall place, tucked into an old strip mall off main street. I didn't let this faze me as I was willing to forego esthetics to get reasonably priced lashes. My review is based on about 10 appointments that I had over a period of a few months. I had eyelash extensions done about every 2 weeks and I also had 2 gel manicures here. They do the lash extensions in a room in the back with 3 beds/customers side by side. The glue they use is not eyelash glue, but latex glue. It stings and burns your eyes and skin throughout the entire process and afterward for several days. They apply it in gobs and you leave with clumps of glue stuck to your eyelid along the lash line. The technicians are not trained to do eyelash extensions. I have since found out that they do everything wrong from the materials that they use to the technique that they use to apply the extensions. I paid extra to upgrade my extensions to "silk". The so called silk extensions are thick and fake looking. I later was told by a legitimate trained lash professional that the "silk" extensions were anything but silk, they are not even faux silk. They apply the extensions in clusters, attaching several lashes to one natural lash. The result always looks fake and sloppy with lashes going to many directions. This cluster technique is a cheap way to apply lashes fast, but it damages your natural lashes. The heavy clusters weigh down the natural lash and cause it to fall out. Over time many of your natural lashes simply don't grow back, leaving you with less natural lashes than you started with. One thing that sets this salon apart from others that I have been to is that they don't seem to value repeat customers. I think they figure they have an endless stream of new customers from Living Social and Groupon deals. Whether it's lashes or nails they don't really seem to care about customer satisfaction. I came regularly for a about 3 months. I was polite, followed their directions and tipped well (20%). Nevertheless, they always treated me as if they really didn't care if I was happy with the service or not. If I mentioned having a problem with my lashes they would blame me: -- tell me that my eyes were too sensitive (to the glue), claim that no one else has a problem with it. -- tell me that my lashes looked bad because I didn't take good care of them, even though I was extremely careful, followed all directions and had touch ups done regularly. The bottom line is that I finally got smart and found a trained lash professional and my experience there has been wonderful. She patiently showed me everything that Modern Nails and Lashes had done wrong: used cheap lashes, used latex glue, applied lashes in clusters, caked glue along my lash line, etc. I know have beautiful lashes that look real, but full and long. They are applied one lash per natural lash using special eyelash glue that does not sing or burn. Surprisingly I found that you can get beautiful professionally applied lashes for a reasonable price too. I highly recommend checking out Pretty Girls Make Faces in McClean. You do not need to suffer through an experience like Modern Nails and Lashes. There are alternatives. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars!! DO NOT GET YOUR EYELASHES DONE HERE!! She doesn't take her time and she uses so much glue that your eyes will burn for days. She overcharges and adds mink lashes without asking and expects you to pay. They have so much glue on them they are all stuck together and look awful!! The lashes are stuck in my eyelid and every time I blink it hurts. Thank god for Hair and Nail Boutique in Falls Church for taking them off for me and correcting what she did. I asked for a refund or for her to take the lashes off and she refused, saying I had to pay to have them removed!! All the previous reviews were right. You WILL get what you paid for. The whole process took less than 1 hour. They did not use individual lashes, but lashes in cluster of 2 or 3. That explained why the whole process take less than an hour. They use cheap glue (smells like crazy glue), which will burn your eyes. They will make you sign a form for the glue so you can not sue them if anything happen to your eyes). After I left on the first day, some of the lashes already fall out. In Groupon they advertise that it will last up to 8 weeks! I realize they don't care if customers return or not because they will continue to use Groupon to get first time customer and then move on. I won' be coming back, and I won't recommend this place to anyone. Please save your money, or pay a little more and get a decent eye lashes extention done somewhere else. read more

Don't confuse this with Modern Nails in Tyson's Corner like I did - not the same brand. I arrived on time for my appt, they stuck me in the pedi chair/water and no one worked on my feet for the next 30 min. They were under-staffed and just tried to wing four of us on two techs. I paid for a spa pedi (it was fine), then did Groupon Shellac, but it's one of those places that claims to do Shellac but doesn't really know how. The bake machines aren't on a timer, they just pulled my hand out whenever they wanted. They forgot to do the paraffin and offered a 10$ off coupon for next time. Over my dead body. I asked to apply it to the pedi and the owner said, "No coupon on top of coupon" I replied, "Right, but my pedicure is full price, so there's no coupon there." There was no argument to be made, she simply didn't want to discount the service. She was really nice when she came in and apologized for the long wait, so you would think a discount would be in order for that. For a mani/pedi, I was there for nearly 2.5 hours. Side note, this is also in the back of a super sketchy strip mall behind a Dunkin' Donuts. Stay away. read more

I went in a week ago for signature facial and had a great turn out. My face was so cleaned and smooth that I was able to see a difference immediately. The owner of the spa was the individual that gave me the facial. She was very nice and made me feel very comfortable. Her hand movements was good, I felt comfortable and relaxed while I was being worked on. I would definitely schedule another appointment and it's worth it. You only live once! read more

I used to go there to get brazilian waxes. Thuy did a great job at a very reasonable price, however, it was always a hassle to schedule appointments. I've had to sit and wait for over half an hour even when I was early or on time. I got my nails there once, it was a full acrilyc set and it was HORRIBLE. Thuy rushed through it, didn't file my nails as mucha s they needed to be filed, and then asked another lady to finish my nail polish. The nail polish had bubbles all over it!! I had to have my manicure redone a few days later because it was so horrible. read more

I went in originally with a groupon for a full impression set of lashes and paid the additional amount to upgrade to mink lashes. I was very satisfied with the look of the lashes and they lasted almost 4 weeks before I had to go and get a touch-up. The glue is a bit heavy, but once I got used to it, I hardly noticed. One thing that is annoying is to remember to try and avoid touching my eyes and being careful when washing my face and applying/removing make-up. read more

This was my first time getting eye lashes and I didn't know what to expect. The lady did a good job, I think (but couldn't confirm since I've never gotten done before elsewhere ). I agree with most reviews, the service was not the best.... Small place, more than one bed in a small room, the ladies talk the whole time amongst themselves or on the phone (which can be distracting)...Etc etc. Overall it was an okay experience.
