DO NOT GO HERE !!! I was going here for several months. The nail tech I used was Rachel. In the last 30 days I had to return twice to get my nails repaired as they lasted less than two weeks for dip powder. Last week my nail cracked while out of town, one week after getting them done. Tuesday, Rachel redid my nails, then exclaimed with an attitude when finished, "I will no longer do your nails, call and make an appointment with Chung when you return". I went to the front to address her attitude. I was met with a blank stare by the front desk attendant. Management had no regard for the poor service or the disrespectful attitude of the staff. This displayed a poor reflection of this business and staff mistreat of customers due to their negligence. How could the nail tech have an attitude when I had to drive 45 minutes on 2 separate occasions to have my nails repaired? This is egregious. read more

TRIGGER WARNING: NAIL FUNGUS. I really wanted to like this salon. But after giving them so many chances to speak to me as a customer I can no longer support this place. I went to the salon to get a pedicure. I enjoyed the service but ultimately ended up with nail fungus. I've never had nail fungus before and I'm extremely disappointed that the salon gave me no direction as how to solve it or even try to offer me a refund or comp service. And I called them 4 times attempting to be amicable to resolve the issue they caused me. I wouldn't recommend this salon unless you want nail fungus. read more

When I moved from center city to manayunk, I had to leave my beloved nail lady behind. I tried a few different places but either didn't like the cash only policy, the ambience, teeny tiny space or feeling like I could never get an appointment...or park my car. This place is the best I could find while I continue my search. In general all of the manicurists are very skilled but some are very clearly more efficient or more attentive to detail than others. That's pretty standard though. (I will say the best Dip french manicure I've ever gotten was at this place, they made it seem classic and modern at the same time- loved it, got so many compliments.) This place is in a little shopping center so there is a ton of parking, it's a relatively big and they accept cards. (There is an ATM though) They have a great selection of colours: regular, gel, SNS. Different pedicure experiences "deluxe" if you want to treat yourself. Someone always offers me a complimentary beverage...options vary from water to rosé depending on what I'm in the mood for. Staff are always extremely polite and friendly. Why I had to take off stars (I really debated between 3 and 4 stars but decided 3 seemed unfair) was that it's like a sport getting someone on the phone and making an appointment - I usually have to call about 3 or 4 times before someone picks up. If you get placed on hold, you might as well save yourself time and just hang up then call back. They always seems to be booked at the beginning of the conversation but then magically spots open up by the end of the conversation. What is up? Also I know this is a business and I expect upselling from time to time but if I whisper the words "regular", I'm met with "gel is better, it lasts longer" OK OK! BUT I let this slide because there have been occasions where an SNS nail broke weeks later (1000% my fault, not having to do with them) and they took care of it as soon as I walked in - no charge. Decent. Seems like you definitely need an appointment, they barely let me walk in right at opening. The atmosphere is nice, and the layout is great. The chairs look brand new. The floors could be cleaner. The non-gel nail polish is extremely limited and unorganized. It all looks very dried out, but if you ask they have backups. Other techs seemed really friendly, but mine was pretty grumpy. I was getting a mani/pedi and she wouldn't leave it alone when I said I didn't want gel. A friend referred me a few days ago. And since I had an event to attend I treated myself to a mani & pedi. When I walked in the over all set was very nice. I was offered something to drink, it was well ventilated no strong odors. Which was a plus for me. The guy at the front was very welcoming, and check in was a breezy. The lady doing my pedi started off with cool water until I asked her to add hot. She hardly said two sentences during the process. Wasn't friendly and I couldn't enjoy the rushed service I was given. Afterwards the young man showed me the person that was doing my nails. The lady doing my pedi over all did a good job with my overlay. Even though she wasn't using her words to communicate the pushing, pulling, and grabbing my hands was too much. I was there to enjoy a relaxing experience not leaving out needing a Tylenol for my aching wrist. Let alone the dirty hand dryer she put my hands in, until I bought it to her attention. Not to mention talking to herself in her language out loud, about an older lady that walked past with a nice pair of red bottom heels. Then when a coworker sat next to us she really started talking and rolling her eyes. But I surprised them both and stated, be nice I know you're talking about the ladies shoes. Today was my first service at Modish. To start, walking in I saw how beautiful everything was. I was greeted pleasantly and professionally immediately and taken back to a station. Linh did an amazing job removing my builder gel (from another salon, out of state) with patience and explaining what she was doing and why. She then gave me the most beautiful dip mani that I've ever had. I like to keep my nails short and she did that and still made them gorgeous and exactly how I envisioned them! Then we moved on to my pedi with gel polish. My feet feel & look amazing! All of the services took about an hour and a half and I never felt rushed or hurried. Took my friend here to get a mani/pedi before her baby shower. They were very nice and gave her exactly what she asked for.

First time at this shop. I like the aesthetics. Walked in for a pedicure and an acrylic fill +broken nail and they took me right away. Pedicure was subpar by Linda. Started me right away so I assumed there were no pedicure options until I heard another technician ask their client. Her touch was very delicate and the pedicure felt lazy. Didn't really scrub my feet. Didn't really touch my feet at all much. She would grab me by my toes or tap my foot to get me to reposition. No words. Polish was fine. Pedicure was less than 20 minutes. Started working on my fill, also with Linda. Started with the drill and let me know my nails were separating from the acrylic and I should get a new set. Ok. She opts to use the tipo to pry the acrylic off - my least favorite removal method. Proceeds to tell how long soaking off takes. As she starts the begins to struggle immediately. Making me very uneasy. She pries off piece after piece and it starts to get more difficult. The surface of my nail bed is shredded. She gets to my middle finger and unsuccessfully separates my nail from the acrylic and begins to lift, breaking my nail below the tip of my finger exposing the under skin. At this point I was totally dissatisfied with the way she was handling my nails. I abort the refill mission and just ask her for a gel manicure. I did not feel comfortable letting her apply acrylic to my nails. Gel manicure was half assed just like the pedicure. You would think she'd be gentle on the nail she broke... she buffs right on the nail on the now exposed under skin. Very painful. She proceeds to approach that same finger with a cuticle clipper, absolutely not. Gel application was fine. Didn't even fully apply the lotion during my "massage" after applying the polish. She spoke to me as if I've never gotten my nails done before. Tried to justify her methods and suggest that my choices on how I like my nails done and my previous shop were somehow to blame for how poorly she was she was doing my nails??? Won't be going back to Linda. Manager, the only man in the shop, was no help either. Told him I wasn't satisfied with my service and he asked me how I was paying, cash or card. Likely will not be returning to this location. Also noticed a complimentary drink menu at the register while I was checking out but I was never offered a beverage. DO NOT COME HERE!! Last month I came to get my nails done at Modish in Roxborough but I had 4 lingering acrylic nails from a previous set. I asked if Tammy (Modish employee) could remove them. Instead of soaking them off, she took another fake nail and tried to pop my acrylics off. THIS WAS A PAINFUL EXPERIENCE AND I KEPT TELLING HER TO STOP BUT SHE WOULD'NT. Once she popped off my acrylic nail, I noticed my natural nail was split in half, revealing my raw skin, and bleeding. I politely told them that I shouldn't be paying for these nails and they gave me a hard time and she started yelling at me. Lets not even talk about the time they burned my eyebrow, but thats a story for another day. read more

Finding a good nail salon can be tricky. The right ambiance, cleanliness, attention to detail and consistency are all necessities for me. After four visits, Modish was at the top of my list. The decor creates a relaxing environment immediately upon entering the salon. Beautiful chandeliers and the modern design of the manicure stations set the tone for relaxation. Pedicure stations are spaced adequately and the nail technicians practice cleanliness and good hygiene. The gel color selection provides a nice variety, even providing the option to match gel polish with regular pedicure polish. I also appreciate always being offered a beverage as I'm being prepped for a mani pedi. The gentleman at the front desk are extremely courteous and helpful. I love that you can use Venmo to tip the nail technicians as having to get cash for tips can be inconvenient. I would like to give a five star review; however, every time I request to not have my cuticles cut they tell me that won't be s problem, yet they always try to cut just a little. This has been my experience with four different technologies. I believe the customers request should be honored when it's completely feasible. Otherwise, my gel manicures always last for at least two weeks without chipping, and my pedicures can sometimes last for four weeks. Since moving to the area, Modish is my go to! read more

They left a great first Impression on me and every time I go back from Florida, I will get my nails done here! My nail artist shaped my nails so naturally and did my gel nails that feel so light and natural! The design I wanted, she mastered it! It's so simple yet so complex and my artist did an amazing job! We came from out of town and spent a lot of time researching spas for acrylic nails for a teen and an extended/relaxing pedicure for me (an exhausted Mom). I scheduled the top tier pedicure (45-minutes). My tech performed the quickest, most basic pedicure in less than 15 minutes (it started 15-minutes early so I was done by the actual appointment time at 4:45). I was charged for a basic pedicure (which is good). Very disappointing, and defeated the main purpose of the service. The tech's next client arrived before I was finished with my pedicure (it was obviously a regular based on their interaction). My daughter's acrylics were done in less than an hour, which is the quickest ever! After a day, they are holding up but we aren't confident in their durability. We weren't offered a drink when we arrived - like expected - although other clients were. We won't visit again, and don't recommend to "first timers" to the spa. read more

I used to love Modish when I first moved to this area but lately, it's been falling kind of flat for me and it's disappointing. Since they've expanded a few months ago I feel like the quality of the work and products they use has gone down. I always get dip when I go and I feel like a week in my nails are cracking and chipping off... I've gotten dip manicures from other places recently and gone up to 4 weeks without a single chip or nail breaking. I got a dip manicure yesterday and the tech seemed very distracted and rushing the whole time. I noticed that he was actually watching TV on his phone which was sitting on the chair beside him the entire time. The manicure looks rushed, with lines on several nails and my underlying nail visible through the polish. I don't doubt that they will crack in a few days time. I moved two states away a year ago and I still drive to this location as I have not found anyone who compares to the work of my nail artist, Linh. She squared out my nails without asking my preference, so I asked her to round out the edges a bit and she let out a huge sigh. When I asked for my nails to be filed shorter, she rolled her eyes at me. - Mani was done with much less care than the pedi. Chile, no. I don't know if it's because I'm not a regular. I only visit when I'm home for holidays. My best friend swears by this place but I'm not convinced. So, I've been twice. The first time was for a pedi and dip powder. The pedi was fine tho it was gel that is definitely not worth getting on your toes. The dip powder turned out thicker than desired but not terrible. The color was cute. The timing of it all was quick but when she was speed filing my nails she cut me twice. She blamed it on me and said I was moving. Okay, girl. So fine. Nothing to boycott over. Well, I went back on March 20th for just a pedi since I like my nailery in Pittsburgh a lot. Dip powder was too harsh so I got gel. Anyway, don't you know that pedi started peeling on March 25th!!
