The place is a bit dark in the sense it can probably get pretty wild here some night. They have seating indoors, outdoors, and at the bar. We had beers and a $20 boil (special). I don't know who is cooking Cajun, but wow! They are doing it right. Perfect blend of tastiness and spice. I ate way more than I should have, but it was so good. It is in a really nice downtown area. It seems like a New Orleans themed restaurant and bar that is typically a lot of fun. Lots of authentic cajun options on their menu. The portions are very generous. The turtle soup was very good but a little skimpy on the turtle. We got the oysters lola and they were also quite good. The alligator fricasse was very generous in portion including the portion of alligator meat. We had a large party of nine people, but we weren't told we couldn't divide the check nor was there a sign posted indicating that we couldn't do this. Automatic gratuity was added which was what we did expect for a large party, but not being able to divide the check was a huge pain in the ass. Been wanting to try this place for quite a while. when we found out they served frog legs, our friend's favorite, we went for his birthday. So definitely was shocked when we walked into a Cajun restaurant instead and the closest thing to Jamaican food was the Jamaican flavored wings... The bar inside is cool. A lot of drink options. Friendly bartender. However, their service is not as nice. I ordered food to go, fried catfish, gumbo, sides. Took 45 mins (understandable for the catfish, I guess), but my sides were nearly cold. Their to go bags came with a sticker on top and it's my bad that I didn't check, but $40 and 45 mins or so later and they didn't even check. I called to tell them I'm coming back for it and they said that it sitting there and I can grab it. It's been or will be 40 mins sitting there! The sides I got were Mac and cheese (not good) and the yumbo (which was delicious and that's why I remembered I ordered gumbo or thought I did). I looked at the receipt and it was there but not in my bag. So disappointing. On the receipt it even said all to go. Sorryyyy :/ to tell their back staff. And picking it up, my daughter said they told her and my husband it was the same one sitting out! For 40 mins!! They had approx 100 (yes, seriously) beers, ciders, and seltzers available in bottles and cans. They also had cocktails, mocktails, and sodas. Pricing for food and drinks is very reasonable. Some things to keep in mind are that some of their menu items state they take 45 minutes to cook. Also, we came with a group, and they only take 1 form of payment per table. They start you with cornbread with cinnamon butter. It is delicious! I went with the jambalaya, and it was awesome! It's so flavorful. Restaurant itself felt a little dirty and sticky. I really love the food here. I have eaten here three or four times and every time has been great. They have a good variety of Cajun and creole food. Every meal comes with some cornbread at the beginning. There are also cornbread fritters, covered in powdered sugar. Think corn fritter and a beignet had a baby. Must have! Although a lot of the food is definitely not on the healthy side, they have surprisingly good salads as well. I've had a drink or two here, but they're a bit sweet for me, just like in New Orleans. My only negative comment about the restaurant is I feel like they really need a facelift. The New Orleans vibe is strong in the decor, but not necessarily in a good way. Kind of like how on Bourbon Street everything is a little bit dirty and smells a little bit like the night before. The restaurant itself has a New Orleans cajun vibe to it. They have a huge beer list. Actually, they have a draft menu, cocktail menu, and a separate beer list for sours, ciders, ales, etc. I ordered 2 of the same beer, Lindeman's Strawberry (sour). The bottles were only ~8 Oz. They're a beer maker from Belgium. The foods are New Orleans style. They have jambalaya, turtle, shrimp, gator, po boys, salads, you name it. I have the fried chicken salad. I came here for a birthday dinner to celebrate my cousin, and prior to this night I never heard of Moe Joe's. Located in downtown Plainfield I think the restaurant is a small and intimate one yet, the atmosphere is very lively. The hostess and the waitresses were very nice. We had a very large party about 18-20 people and the waitress did a phenomenal job with getting orders in. No one had any issues with forgotten requests, which I find impressive! I really enjoyed my meal! I wasn't particularly hungry this night so I just ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer, along with a side of the cheddar mash potatoes. Everything tasted great! My cousin who ordered the strawberry lemonade did complain that her drink tasted watered down, but I had no complaints with my food. It was fresh, good, and hot! I also ordered a piña colada and was pleased with how big the drink was. It tasted great too. They did put a Mardi Gras bead on my drink and I appreciate the attention to detail, as it added to the theme of the restaurant. I was slightly bothered that the beads were touching and ingrained in my drink. With that being said as long as the bead was clean and handled with basic sanitation standards then it's fine.
