We order catering for 500 people once a year from Moe's, and they are THE BEST. They make sure every detail is taken care of, they even went above and beyond to drive to a unique location a week ahead of time to be sure they would be able to find the place and be on time for delivery. My wife is a huge fan of bbq and we have been wanting to try this place for years but are rarely this far west around lunch or dinner. Today, worked out perfectly so we stopped in. First thing we noticed was the young blonde woman at the front counter was exceptionally pleasant and friendly. She had. Small gold nose ring that was adorable. The food options are wide and varied and I was thrilled they had non-meat, seafood options. I ordered the shrimp po boy sandwich, fries and a mud pie. My wife ordered the catfish sandwich fries and jalapeno cheesy grits. All the food was fantastic. Hot, fresh and well prepared. This place puts green peppers and/or jalapeños in every menu item. I ordered the baked beans as a side and unlike baked beans I've had over the past few decades, this had and completely tasted like green peppers. The bbq sauce was were also dominated by peppers too. Most bbq places also have a sweet bbq sauce. The corn bread had jalapeño baked into it. I've never had cornbread with jalapeños and I've worked at 2 Mexican restaurants. So I ended up paying $18 + tip for 5 tiny pieces of turkey. That is way too much for a couple pieces of turkey . All they had to do was tell all the customers that they have Jalapeño Corn Bread, the baked beans have green peppers , there is no sweet bbq sauces etc. If they did , people could make a more informed decision where not to eat. The bbq sauce was not good at all, very runny, which is so disappointing since I would expect a this type of restaurant to have a good bbq sauce. I didn't try the white sauce which I looked up and it was like a mayo-based bbq sauce. I liked the turkey more than the brisket but honestly wasn't that impressed overall. Maybe because I didn't have a good dipping sauce for the meats. Baked beans were good. I kind of wanted to try the collard greens but didn't. Kind of funny we found ourselves half way across the country at a brewery that doesn't serve food and ended up getting a staple for local BBQ in the B'ham area. We called our order in advance so we could just grab it and go back to the brewery (same parking lot). They had actually run out of a lot of things (no pork and I got the last of the ribs). They were nice and accomodating as we changed our order on the fly several times. When I walked over to grab our food the employees were friendly (we had a laugh about B'ham Moe's) and they got us on our way pretty quickly. Much thanks to the team at Moe's for packaging our stuff up so well and making sure we had plates and utensils and all the extra BBQ we could ever need. Also, my wife had hoped to get ribs and they found some extra and put it in with our order. (For the record - If I knew she was wanting ribs I would have given her my order - I did share :) ) Food was fresh and warm and same quality I'd expect from any of the Moe's I've been at in B'ham area. 10-15 years ago we used to come here and the food was awesome and the staff was mostly great...they had a 'catering' manager that was an absolute hag, but whatever, you ignored her and just enjoyed the rest. I checked out Moe's Original Bar B Que (via their food truck) at the Rockin' Block Party held at the Lakewood Heritage Center. I hate to say it, but I really wasn't that impressed. I opted for the pulled pork sandwich and upgraded to get two sides (potato salad and baked beans). It was pretty bland for barbeque. Perhaps it would've been better had they not placed the sauce on and allowed patrons to select their own according to preference... The baked beans were honestly my favorite part of the meal. Eh, I def won't go out of my way to grab Moe's Original Bar B Que again. Especially when Denver has sooo many other fabulous food truck options available. One star, because there is no option for zero stars. Zero stars would be my default rating for seeing a MOUSE RUNNING AROUND THE STORE while I was waiting for takeout. And you know what, mice happen... it sucks, but it happens. However, the reaction of the staff when I told them is what was truly horrifying. "Hey guys, that mouse is back", said the counter girl to the kitchen staff. What was their reaction, you might ask?! Nothing whatsoever! Continue making food, pretend nothing ever happened. Came back today and same young women are too busy joking with their friends to be bothered to work; I did get one young man to take my order. The BRISKET PLATTER is quite a tasty dinner on any night of the week. I opted for the daily side special of CREAMED SPINACH and a regular menu side of COLLARD GREENS. You can't go wrong with either choice. Creamed spinach has perfect creamy flavor and texture. The collards are so good with smoked spinach, bacon bits, and onions. Definitely had to suck down every last drop of the broth. I really enjoy their take on cornbread. They griddled the load slice of cornbread which gave it a wonderful smokiness and crunch. The piece de resistance is the meat of course. Their brisket is quite yummy! Fork tender and flavorful. The BBQ sauce is the right combo of spice, peppery-ness, and sweetness. read more

To the very young man working the bowling alley at 5 pm. You single handedly lost 14 customers who had been loyal supporters of the establishment for decades. I have had a my birthday at Moe's every year for 20 years and until yesterday it was always an incredible experience. I also frequent their music shows, stop in for lunch, etc as I live 3 blocks away. Yesterday everything started out fantastic. We had a blond female bartender who was taking excellent care of us. We had 2 bowling lanes reserved for 3 hours with dinner planned after. It being my birthday I had ordered several rounds of shots for the entire group. As we finished bowling and were getting ready to sit down for dinner I went to the bar to order a beer. Our bartenders shift had ended so I ordered from a boy I had never seen/spoken to/interacted with me. He very rudely informed me that I was cut off. I was shocked as I had been nothing but pleasant and generous with the staff and fellow patrons and asked why. He said with clear distain because of the large amount of shots on my tab. I explained that I was buying rounds for the entire group and I had not drank 28 shots, lol. He didn't care. So instead of us sitting down for dinner to spend several hundred more dollars we all had to coordinate a new place to eat. We all went to Gennaros where we were greeted with hospitality and amazing pizza. We then went to the Dive Inn, Zoes, and the Englewood Tavern, all of whom were more than happy to treat us with appreciation and served us, as there was not, nor was there ever anything wrong with our behavior. Myself and my friends will never step foot in Moe's again and if you want to have fun, it's not the place for it. Perhaps it was the single incompetent rude employee. But his representation of Moe's permanently lost more than a dozen long time, loyal customers. It was a truly horrible experience. read more

I've been to this location of Moe's a couple of times and Yelpers are right on in their comments and ratings - it is the prototypic 3.5 star BBQ restaurant. The food is good - not lip-smacking wonderful but some better than average - the food alone is close to 4 stars. The rest of the experience is 3 stars - not bad, but could be better without much effort. Staff are pleasant. The dining room is very casual and mostly clean, but tables could get bussed and cleaned more quickly, especially during busy times. BBQ sauce and other condiments can sometimes be hard to find, or need to be filled. Prices are reasonable, especially for sandwiches, which, like the platters are served with two sides. The BBQ is good, but don't overlook the catfish - also very good. Apparently Moe's is "Alabama BBQ," which appears to me to mean more vinegar in the sauce, but quite possibly that's an oversimplification. Sides are fine - not great, but fine - except the collard greens which are great. So here's the deal with a 3.5 star restaurant. Sometimes you go and it's a three. And, sometimes you go and it's a four. The difference is just a little inattention and neglect which would be very easy to remedy. read more

They always forget part of the order... The meats are smoked deliciousness. The brisket melts in your mouth. The hot links are just spicy enough without being overpowering. The chicken and turkey is smoked just right and juicy. The ribs are some of the best I've had in Colorado. The sides vary from day to day and are ok. Nothing really stands out as being notable for flavor. I've been here three times in 6 months. They've forgotten something on my order each time. Not sure why this is such an issue. Yes it's a Chain and I don't care! Really great BBQ and you know it when you are overwhelmed by that awesome smokey aroma when just inside the door. Further inside you will find plenty of tall windows and a couple plasma TV's set to whatever current sports event/ and or chat show is available. I guess I'm a sucker for tender slow cooked Texas-style Beef Brisket and Moe's doesn't disappoint. I ordered the Beef Brisket Sandwich Combo this evening. In less time than it took to snap and post up a few photos for this review with my trust Yelp Mobile app (see pics please?) the Sandwich arrived in its requisite plastic basket wrapped in paper and joined portion cups stuffed with very tasty Cole Slaw and Potato Salad. Their BBQ sauce is basic- but good enough to add more than a little extra to whatever you have in front of you. The patio does look West seeing another beautiful Colorado sunset today makes me think about venturing back over here in Summertime for a couple $1 PBR's (yes that's right Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer served for just a BUCK EVERYDAY!) read more

Moe's gets a lot of good press but I just never am very impressed. I've tried a few locations and it just is mediocre to me. Except once, in Boulder. That was about the first time I'd been to Moe's and that was really good. Maybe I should try that one again to see if I still feel the same. The one here (Lakewood I think it is) Vail, and another one I forget the location of, when I get my food it's often luke warm, bland. Just doesn't thrill me to go back. If I'm going to wait a long time for some meat to be carved off for a sandwich, I think it's going to be exceptional. Maybe it's just me. A lot of people like Moe's.
