Here is my honest reviews on the following foods I tried. #1 the ribs were nice & fall of the bone. #2 Tuesdays brisket special was nothing special. The brisket was over cooked @ lacked real flavor. #3 The fried shrimp was pretty terrible. # 4 the baked beans, the coleslaw , they've were excellent, the pickles I've yet to try. The bbQ red sauce was outstanding. The brioche roll was worthy of it 's exception. Overall Moe's BBQ has lots of room for improvement. Will I eat here again?- probably not. read more

I've driven past Moe's a few times since it filled in the spot where there used to be a butcher shop. The new restaurant is a great spot with lots of light, posters from cool bands, TVs with different sports playing. The staff was very attentive and quick to bring out my order. Up here for 3 days for work. Happy I stopped here as I would have been mad to miss out on tasting this food. The food was absolutely delicious! I had ribs, with potato salad and skillet corn. Amazing! My husband had chicken and pulled pork with coleslaw and mac n cheese. He loved his foot. I have celiac disease so I can't have my gluten, they are very gluten free. The person at the register was very knowledgeable on what was gluten free, the person serving the food also changed his gloves when serving my food. I greatly appreciate them! read more

I would like to give this post a 3.5 review only because the price to quantity ratio was high. All that plus a short beer was like $45. In Dallas, I had much more for less. Do I recommend going? This was my first time at Moe's new location on Payne Road in Scarborough. There's a good parking lot with handicap accessible spots in front, as well as handicap accessible entrance and bathroom. There is not a ton of seating due to a smaller space but there is still a good amount. There are smaller tables and high top tables. When you walk in, you order your food at the counter. I came with a group of 5 of us. They have some tables to accommodate larger groups. We went on Tuesday because that is brisket day and you have to try the brisket. They offer so many choices of meats. You can get them in sandwich form or a platter and get two sides with them plus cornbread. We tried the brisket sandwich, pulled pork platter, smoked turkey sandwich, brisket platter, and shrimp platter. For sides we all got cornbread and then an assortment of collard greens, Mac n cheese, green beans, potato salad, and beans. Everything was delicious. The food was brought out to us which was great! I personally got the pulled pork platter with mac n cheese, collard greens, and cornbread. The Mac n cheese although did not super appetizing, was surprisingly delicious. The collard greens were hot and had pieces of their smoked sausage in it which was so good. The cornbread is spicy with some jalapeños and was yummy. The pulled pork was amazing - tender and moist. I paired it with their signature red sauce and it was so good. Plus I got two pickle chips! They have a variety of bottled drinks, fountain drinks, and some canned cocktails or beer plus a few beers and cider on tap! The service was excellent and the food was mouth watering. For dinner and I cannot say enough good stuff about this place. First time I was here and I asked the girl at the front counter what she suggested, she said the wings were the best. So I got six wings dry rubbed with two sides and they were amazing. The wings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. One of the sides was a sweet potato casserole and it was delicious. And a place was very clean. If I'm ever back in the area again on business, I will definitely stop here for dinner. read more

I have never had a bad thing at this establishment. Ever. Their authentic barbecue is literally one of the best in the area and quite frankly in the state. Today I had the full size ribs with the sides of Mac and cheese and delicious flavorful collard greens and my wife had an assortment of sides (potato salad/Mac and cheese/banana pudding) The service is always super friendly where they explain the features of things like Alabama style white sauce and Carolina style rubs. One of the other items that they serve here are their rubbed and dipped wings. These things are the absolute best with amazing and great flavor and a scrumptious dipping sauce. The only issue with this visit (like anywhere right now) is the price as the wings order was a same a 6 large ribs at 17 dollars so that was kind of steep for me. The decor is filled with Grateful Dead and Phish stuff and it just has a great feel to it. One thing that I love is that we placed our orders and sat down and within 5 minutes had our food piping hot and ready to go! Moe's has curbside service perfected during this crazy quarantine time. They took my payment over the phone and asked for the make and model of my vehicle. Literally as soon as I pulled up they knew it was me. They verified my name and left my food on the table for me to pick up. No signing with a dirty shared pen. They didn't even give me an option to tip. They were all about efficiency. The food was a great bargain. I bought my adult chicken wing platter and they gave me the kids meal for $1! We did not eat since it was counter service. The menu was so high up that it Was difficult to read. We took a printed menu and went to sit in a bar stool table to look at menu. The seats were horrible. They leaned forward so you could not get yourself or back into the slippery seat. I'll start with the positive & most important ... the food is great as was the service. I got the dry wings with two sides, mac & cheese as well as beans. The beans were delicious the mac & cheese was a bit dry & lacking cheese but I still enjoyed it. The corn bread is good. My SO got the fried shrimp & loved it. The ambiance is not ideal. In fact, we decided to get it to go instead of eating in because it's really quite gross. The bar has been removed and the tables were sticky. It just had an overall dirty feeling to it. Seeing as how this is yet another BBQ national chain restaurant, my expectations weren't super high. Maine, for some strange reason, is one of the 14 states that carry's Moe's, 2 of them at that. And it looks like you can't get to another one until you hit Ohio or Virginia and those states only have one for each. Looks like this franchise exploded in Alabama, practically half the locations in the country are located throughout Bama. But here I am up in South Portland ME thinking again this might be okay but Im sure one of dem spot in Birmingham does the whole thing much better. They didn't have brisket, brisket is more of a special to them. No combo meals, you can add meats for $4 each onto of the platter meals but there is no official "2 meat 2 side combo" deals Got small rib platter 4 ribs, pulled chicken and wings cause they said they were amazing. The have regular sides available all the time but apparently they have side specials. Stuff I would think is relatively standard, like Mac and Cheese, was for some reason a Special. The other specials they had that day were Green beans, jambalaya, and pumpkin pie. Banana Pudding is a regular dessert they have all the time. Smelled good. Very tiny portion. 1 little wafer. Looked like tapioca pudding to me at first. Tasted like You could get away with calling it pumpkin pudding, 3 bites and you are done. But at the same time I want to say this is what actual banana pudding tastes like. Very different though, like it was made with real banana. Chicken Wings (3). Wings come with their white sauce. Rub was just a tad saltier than I like. Meat was good and tender. General wings, nothing crazy. The pulled chicken I got was not even a handful. I used the white sauce on this chicken. White sauce had more of a chipotle mayo hue to it but smelled great. Pulled chicken is more chopped chicken if you ask me. Chicken wasn't all that warm. Not a bad flavor at all. Sauce started tasting more like a southwest ranch. Chicken is smoked but it needs work. Cold, smoked flavor isn't really there. Ribs, small rack, 4 bones. White and Red sauce options. Not too much of a smoke ring but the red rub was looking great. Kinda wish I had more of the rub. Flavor of the rub was more of a smokey salty style. The meat came apart a bit easy. My ideal texture is meat can be bite marked out of the rest of the meat like a piece of fresh bread. The BBQ sauce at this place is great! I was the most surprised with this characteristic. Great apple cider vinegar taste, liquidy, the spices can be seen in the sauce. Comes with pickles which is a lot of points on the board for them. Mac and Cheese had a little bit of cheddar or Monterey jack cheese melting on it. Buttery pasta. Very very lite cheese sauce. Again, they only give you a small amount. Definitely not $4 worth, which is what you pay for specials. I became a little conflicted with this mac and cheese, lot of salt, not really a cheese sauce, more of a butter sauce. Cornbread and Beans looked really good. Cornbread had bits of green chillies or jalapeños I think but they just enhanced the flavor, not take it over. Really buttery and the texture had some grit to it. Beans had some colors to it which means they actually care and through in some different peppers. Bean gravy isn't soupy and holds onto the contents while on the fork or spoon. Lot of different spices that all worked great, tiny little heat kick to it too. All in all the flavor of everything was pretty good. But the amount and the prices are kind of killing it for me. read more

Moe's for the social distancing win! I called and placed an order and the staff asked for the make and model of my car and advised me that they'd bring the order out to a tented table that they'd set up for contact-less service. When you pull up to the restaurant there are several clear signs providing instructions and directions. It was great. Now on to the food....I've always loved Moe's because it is unpretentious, inexpensive and the portions are decent. We ordered the smoked wings and they were delicious. I went there with my friend a couple years ago, and Yelp keeps pestering me to do a review. I don't know whether i did back then or not. Service was so-so, the workers almost seemed upset they had customers come in. The food was good, but I have had better. It seemed as though it was prepared the week before and stretched into lasting a week. The sauce was the savior of flavor. Maybe its me losing my taste buds, who knows. Holy Poutine! First thought when I saw that big boy. They did not hold back at all and loved it! Very delicious and was drowned in gravey with plenty of fries. Easily could make this 2 meals possible even 3 from how heavy it is. The sides were small and could fit in my hand. I was expecting them to be bigger, but for the price they're perfect for everything together. I paid $20 (without tip) and got it to go on my lunch break. For someone who doesn't care/like jalapeños there was some in the Corn bread. I was skeptical at first, but there not overbearing and I even enjoy it. Mac and Cheese was little creamy goodness. I called in for pick up and walked into pay, the person helping me was nice and even texted me when order was ready for pick up. I asked what a special side they had which I didn't understand, and he explained it to me with patience and very kind. Inside is huge and plenty of seats to just walk in to pick from. I was hammering out a birthday dinner for my 16 year old and a few of his friends who all wanted BBQ. Given the crowd, I needed: Good barbeque No parking hassles Seating where the birthday group could sit on their own/adults could sit somewhere else A place where we were not waiting in a sea of hipsters for a table *Possible bonus (not a deal breaker) a bar (for accompanying adults) I was considering all options, when I decided to check out what my friends on yelp had to say. Turns out, Moe's came out ahead of the local pack with 4 1/2 stars overall. Impressive! Armed with this info, I headed over to Moe's for a pre-birthday dinner-scope out. No trouble with parking. Check. Roomy space, not really cozy or intimate (works for what I need, maybe not for a date night??). Brightish lighting, beer on tap and a bar. Check! Plenty of places to sit from booths on one side to smaller two tops across the room. Check! Now, on to the food (important!). This is a walk up and order kind of place. Looking at the menu I was struck by how reasonable the prices are. I decided on the catfish platter, and here's what I got: A whole lot of fresh fried catfish In house made tartar sauce (elevated a great experience and made it even better) A buttery grilled piece of jalapeno cornbread (not spicy at all) A side of smoked chicken and corn chowder (delicious, could have made a whole meal out of this) A side of potato salad (I am VERY picky when it comes to PS, Moe does it right!) This was a LOT of well prepared food. Definitely enough for a hungry person for dinner and then some. The best part, was that this entire meal was $10!!! For this town, an incredible deal! On a side note, all sandwiches, platters etc...at Moe's seem to come with your choice of sides. The sides here are crazy interesting and go well and above the usual choices. There seemed to be an everyday listing of sides and then a specials board with a whole bunch more. My son picked the mac & cheese with his rib sandwich (excellent), AND a dessert side of peanut butter oreo pie! They also have banana pudding with nilla wafers as an all-the-time side! Might be worth the trip for that alone! True confession: I had driven past Moe's many times and never considered stopping in because of location. It is near the crowd packed Maine Mall. It looks chainish on the outisde and like a place that would lean toward a faster food model. I mention all of this, because I was DEAD WRONG and feel the need to atone for my prior snap judgement. Moe's is not as good as Salvage or Elsmere but it's not the same type of restaurant. It's more fast casual (think Chipotle) than full service sit down. The owner stopped by our nearby office at lunch and explained his concept, so we figured why not give it a shot. Inside is simple but effective. You order at front counter or at the full service bar. Prices are a little high, but cheaper than comparable BBQ. The stew was dense and flavorful with generous amounts of sausage and pork. The pulled pork was a huge helping of leaner than usual (which I like) delicious pork. It came with two sides. The sides were on the smaller end, but considering the platter was $10 I found them reasonable. For me, the mac and cheese was the star. I prefer this version to Salvage/Elsmere. The coleslaw apparently was pickled and was terrible. An enormous chunk of corn bread was slightly dry but still tasty. A small stew, pulled pork, two sides, corn bread and two Bud Lights came to $17 before tip. I left comatose full. This has been a location of death to restaurants in the past, but hopefully Moe's has better luck. The massive slow cooker outside sends irresistible BBQ fumes several blocks away. Like, if I'm craving pulled pork I would come here. The potato salad was good too. The best part (to me) was the banana pudding! I loved it with the Nilla wafers. The one thing I would complain about it is the portion size. For what I'm paying for it, I would think I would get more. PRICE: It was okay. I think my combination plate was $15-16. Nice vibe. Great flavors. Interesting menu items. This strip mall restaurant is a good mix flavor and simplicity. They make their own chip. It's not romantic. I am gluten free as I have mentioned in other reviews and they are great letting me know what I should avoid. Food is always tasty and delicious and my absolute favorite menu item is their original smoked wings! Make sure you get them with the white sauce!! Any of their sides are good. My family loves the Mac and cheese before having to go GF their sweet potatoe casserole was to die for along with the banana pudding!
