My friend and I came on a Saturday evening and there was a short wait, about 20 minutes. The restaurant was packed! We started off with the famous rolls, served hot and with cinnamon butter. They were very good but I don't know if I quite get the hype. For appetizers we split the cactus blossom, a battered and fried onion. It was HUGE. I wish the batter had been a little more flavorful but texturally it was very satisfying. Nice and crispy. For my main I got the herb crusted chicken with sides of Caesar salad and steamed vegetables. The chicken was well seasoned and a little overcooked. Saturday evening dinner date with my man led us to Texas Roadhouse for a steak dinner. Arriving about 5:30p we knew we would have to wait. Parking was easy with a spot coming free when we arrived next to the door! Many people standing inside and outside we stood behind a family blocking the hostess stand. After a few minutes had to ask if they have their name and were told rather rudely they had been waiting an hour and twenty minutes for a table for four! We walked up to the hostess who informed us that the bar was a first come, first served. We walked up and found 4 empty seats! Quinn the bartender and Kyle greeted us immediately with menus and a smile. Drinks served shortly afterwards and out dinner order placed. Two Porterhouse steaks please. While waiting we did some people watching and glanced at the TVs which had sports on. Not a sports fan so could care less. It took about 20 minutes for our food to come out which was excellent based in the packed house in the restaurant. Steak was cooked perfectly and larger than anticipated so had some left overs. The facility seems brand new, sparkling, inviting. The food: BBQ ribs- ten: fall off the ribs tender and juicy. Caesar salad- appropriate size for a side, well-made with fresh, crunchy Romaine- a ten. Road Kill burger- okay, great mushrooms in the mix, but too much of a Gemischt. - a seven. I'm writing this review based on what my mother told me after her visit to Texas Roadhouse, and the experience she described was extremely upsetting. My mother was dining with my young sibling, and it was her first time eating at this restaurant. She needed help understanding the menu, but the waitress was rude, impatient, and unwilling to explain anything. My mother felt that she was treated differently because she is a person of color, and the attitude she received made her feel uncomfortable and disrespected. Because of the poor service, my mother did not leave a tip. As my mother and sibling were leaving the restaurant, the waitress reportedly walked up close to my mother and whispered an insult, calling her a "bitch." This occurred in front of my young sibling, which makes the situation even more unacceptable. No customer should ever be treated this way. This behavior is unprofessional and disturbing, especially in a family restaurant. I sincerely hope management addresses this incident and takes steps to ensure all guests are treated with respect. I remember those days, pre-kids, where I would NEVER consider going to a chain restaurant when there are a million great foodie stops in Grtr Portland. Well, this is another way kids will humble you! Now, if you are going to do a chain, Texas Roadhouse is a really good option for you. I knew someone who worked there and she said the food really is made from scratch - And, it is pretty darn good. Pillowy soft, fresh out of the oven slathered in their honey cinnamon butter. Bring a large pocketbook to stuff them in so you can get more...and don't forget to take home that butter! We had chicken tenders, fried pickles, and a veg plate. Tenders came with 2 sides and were excellent. Big, crispy pieces of moist chicken breast. The pickles are sliced chips with a really good ranch, although I thought I remembered a remoulade last time I was here. The veg plate lets you choose 4 sides. I got salad, chili, loaded baked potato, and green beans. All very good. The salad is fresh with shredded cheese, bacon bits and croutons and the Italian dressing is very good. This batch of chili was very salty and I only had a few bites, but normally I like their chili. The baked potato had a nice crispy, salted skin and fluffy inside. Have it loaded with butter, sour cream, cheese and bacon. The green beans were made southern style with smoked bacon bits and onions. I am a huge fan of these beans as they aren't overcooked and mushy although they have that nice smoky flavor. Best part was, the staff was friendly and quick! They were packed to the gills and from time we sat to all food placed down in front of us was no more then 15- 20 min. They are a well-oiled machine in turning over tables there. If I could do 4.5 stars I would, and but for the chili tonight, it would be a solid 5. My dining partner had been to another location and really liked it so we decided to go here. The place was super busy at about 3 p.m. but we only had a wait time of less than 10 minutes. From the moment we were greeted and seated until we left, we were blown away with the genuine friendliness, professionalism, attentiveness, humor and care we were shown by all staff. All. Our waiter was fantastic and took great care of us. The service was way better than the service we received at a fine dining establishment the night before. The menu has a great variety to choose from. Impressively, all of their breads, sides, dressings are made from scratch! We both opted to order the sirloin steaks- different sizes. One can choose his/her own cut of meat from a display case or order directly from the menu. Wow. I like that the manager brought the meals to our table and asked us right there to cut into the steaks to be sure they were cooked properly. Nice touch and a very smart business move if you ask me. The steaks were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The baked potatoes were scrumptious. The green beans and the vegetable medley were both excellent. Portions were generous and those rolls are oh so good! Prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are decent. I ended up taking half of my meal home. The new one was at least hot but when I cut into it the steak was rare to say tge least I ordered med well. At that point I just refused service. Ate nothing!!. The 3 mom's all ordered the filet. And all 3 were rare at best uf not raw on the middle. Sent those back. While they waited. Manager stop by as usual and gave us the normal rethoric. They must have scripted. I told her about my past experiences with thus place. And she actually rembered me. WTF. so steaks come back and my mother in laws was still rare. So she refused service. Went for an early Friday night dinner at 4pm and it wasn't very busy but we waited an extremely long time for our food, so long in fact that we couldn't stay to eat and had to package our food to go. Now my first visit was the day before Christmas and we arrived shortly after they opened. We were seated immediately and our waitress brought our drinks and the rolls/butter while we viewed the menu's. We got a 12oz ribeye with ribs and for my 2 sides I went with loaded mashed potatoes and chili, my cousin got steak fries and applesauce. My chili arrived almost immediately and oh it was amazing. Our food arrived and we started eating. I prefer my steak rare-medium and it was perfectly cooked. My cousin likes his more medium and his was perfectly cooked for him. I will say this place definitely knows how to season and cook a steak however you want it. Now I will say that a party of 2 get seated at very small tables and with the rolls, plates, silverware and meals with sides plus drinks there's no room on the table for anything. Several bites in I'm completely focused on this delicious steak and my cousin said I wonder what happened to our ribs. Omg I had completely forgotten about them too but for $30 each I wanted them so the next time our waitress went by we mentioned them. She had forgotten to order them. Ok mistakes happen, I get it. The ribs came out quickly which allowed us time to stack plates and make room for them. Now I love ribs and these were unbelievable. The bones literally pulled out clean with minimal effort. We literally discussed how the cooks got them so tender and plated them without having them fall apart. Both of us are big eaters and we still left with alot of everything for another meal at home. Now today me and Eric went (new years day) we arrived around 1230 and gave our name and number, were told it would be about 15 minutes and then we would receive a text when our seats were ready. It was crazy busy there but after maybe 25 minutes we got a text saying take your party to the hostess station to be seated. We were already inside so we were there in seconds and we waited, and waited. Finally I asked Eric how long ago the text came in and it had been 8 minutes and I asked how much longer before we were seated and it was another few minutes. During our 8+ minutes we got to listen to the hostesses stand around, chat with each other, goof off, ignore the phones ringing and basically act fairly immature. But hey we eventually got seated and given our rolls and our drinks. We decided to try the cactus blossom. It's a blooming onion with a Cajun dipping sauce. It's a tad spicy but in the good way that makes you keep going back for more. I ordered the 16oz sirloin steak with sautéed mushrooms, steak fries and buttered corn. Eric stuck with the cactus blossom and actually ate it all lol Now your waiter only takes your order, someone else delivers it to you and your waiter comes back to check on you and to make sure everything is going well. My steak arrived and it was again seasoned and cooked perfectly. My corn was in a bowl on a plate and again very small tables so I lifted the bowl up and there underneath it was a very long black hair. So I spot the waiter and give him the plate with the hair and he mentioned it's not the first incident of the day where this has happened. They'd only been open less than 2 hours and this had happened more than once. Oh ok I went back to my steak and realized that my sautéed mushrooms hadn't been brought out. I spotted the waiter and ask about my mushrooms and he's back within minutes and I'm guessing they were just sitting in the kitchen waiting to be delivered cuz they were almost cold. At this point I asked for a Togo box, packed up the steak and fries and was ready to go. Will I go back... if I do it will be on the slowest day and time and I'll pray they get me in a bigger table and that everything is delivered the first time. It's definitely confusing when someone takes the order and someone else delivers it because that's where errors occur. It's happened on both occasions and that's 2x too many. If the steak and ribs weren't so amazing I'd have no problem ever going back but they are delicious. This restaurant has a great wait staff and skilled cooks. Food was excellent; hot and made to order; just the way we asked. My husband and I were in Maine for five days. Two of those days we ate at this restaurant. The service was so great we decided to eat there two evenings. Michelle the Manager visited our table to assure everything was as it should be. This restaurant has a full hardworking staff. Management makes sure they have enough staff to have a well-run restaurant. Texas Roadhouse is always delicious. They have a call ahead option, if you're coming with a bit of a drive. Just south of the Maine mall in Portland Maine. That's nice, we call before when we head out and by the time we get there, our wait is usually minimal. We made the mistake of going on Labor Day weekend. We did wait quite a bit of time, but it's understandable on a holiday weekend. The place was packed, and I mean packed. Our server's name was toasha or something unique like that. I wish I had written it down. She had dirty blonde hair and wore a headband or bandana as well! She was fantastic, even though she was very very busy. She remembered to check on us after food was dropped, she refilled our beverages without hesitation. She made sure each plate was tasting good and we had extra bread and everything else we needed. I've always adored the inside decor at Texas Roadhouse. It's so, oh idk, Texas ... the caricatures on the upper walls are awesome! I always get a salad when I'm here and a baked potato. Surprisingly - this is a great restaurant. I agree with the other reviewers - this is a 4 star chain but I feel good about it. We went here, late at night, cranky kids, looking for something without a huge wait. You can call ahead and put your name in which would save you a lot of time. We were seated in the bar which was tough with a toddler but it was packed on the weekend. The bathrooms were also very crowded and not the cleanest - too many people going through them. There is a ton of staff and they move pretty quickly here. My toddler was very pleased with her Kraft mac n cheese and my steak and fries was pretty adequate for a TXRH. I have a food allergy and the manager checked on ingredients for me and made me rolls without the butter topping. So delicious and appreciated. read more
