Porterhouse Steak dinner
Alison M.

Saturday evening dinner date with my man led us to Texas Roadhouse for a steak dinner. Arriving about 5:30p we knew we would have to wait. Parking was easy with a spot coming free when we arrived next to the door! Many people standing inside and outside we stood behind a family blocking the hostess stand. After a few minutes had to ask if they have their name and were told rather rudely they had been waiting an hour and twenty minutes for a table for four! We walked up to the hostess who informed us that the bar was a first come, first served. We walked up and found 4 empty seats! Quinn the bartender and Kyle greeted us immediately with menus and a smile. Drinks served shortly afterwards and out dinner order placed. Two Porterhouse steaks please. While waiting we did some people watching and glanced at the TVs which had sports on. Not a sports fan so could care less. It took about 20 minutes for our food to come out which was excellent based in the packed house in the restaurant. Steak was cooked perfectly and larger than anticipated so had some left overs. Sides were broccoli and mashed potatoes which were good. Finished our drinks and out the door we went. Home by 7:45p enough time to watch a movie. Perfect way to end a wonderful evening.

I remember those days, pre-kids, where I would NEVER consider going to a chain restaurant when there are a million great foodie stops in Grtr Portland. Well, this is another way kids will humble you! How do you deny them their favorite restaurant, even with the 45 min wait?? This has definitely become my family's go-to when we have the time to wait. Now, if you are going to do a chain, Texas Roadhouse is a really good option for you. I knew someone who worked there and she said the food really is made from scratch - And, it is pretty darn good. Dressings, bacon bits, all sides, and pick your own fresh steak as you walk by the meat cooler. First, the rolls. Hands down, best rolls you will eat. Pillowy soft, fresh out of the oven slathered in their honey cinnamon butter. Bring a large pocketbook to stuff them in so you can get more...and don't forget to take home that butter! We had chicken tenders, fried pickles, and a veg plate. Tenders came with 2 sides and were excellent. Big, crispy pieces of moist chicken breast. The pickles are sliced chips with a really good ranch, although I thought I remembered a remoulade last time I was here. The veg plate lets you choose 4 sides. I got salad, chili, loaded baked potato, and green beans. All very good. The salad is fresh with shredded cheese, bacon bits and croutons and the Italian dressing is very good. This batch of chili was very salty and I only had a few bites, but normally I like their chili. The baked potato had a nice crispy, salted skin and fluffy inside. Have it loaded with butter, sour cream, cheese and bacon. The green beans were made southern style with smoked bacon bits and onions. I am a huge fan of these beans as they aren't overcooked and mushy although they have that nice smoky flavor. Best part was, the staff was friendly and quick! They were packed to the gills and from time we sat to all food placed down in front of us was no more then 15- 20 min. They are a well-oiled machine in turning over tables there. If I could do 4.5 stars I would, and but for the chili tonight, it would be a solid 5. Tip: there is always a wait here, but join the waitlist on their app or if you join it when you arrive head across the street to shop while you wait.

We came here with a hankering for a good steak on New Year's day. We were looking for a casual, nearby place with good prices and great steak. My dining partner had been to another location and really liked it so we decided to go here. The place was super busy at about 3 p.m. but we only had a wait time of less than 10 minutes. From the moment we were greeted and seated until we left, we were blown away with the genuine friendliness, professionalism, attentiveness, humor and care we were shown by all staff. All. Our waiter was fantastic and took great care of us. The service was way better than the service we received at a fine dining establishment the night before. The menu has a great variety to choose from. Impressively, all of their breads, sides, dressings are made from scratch! We both opted to order the sirloin steaks- different sizes. One can choose his/her own cut of meat from a display case or order directly from the menu. Wow. I like that the manager brought the meals to our table and asked us right there to cut into the steaks to be sure they were cooked properly. Nice touch and a very smart business move if you ask me. The steaks were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The baked potatoes were scrumptious. The green beans and the vegetable medley were both excellent. Portions were generous and those rolls are oh so good! Prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are decent. I ended up taking half of my meal home. The restrooms were clean and the place ran like a well oiled machine. There is plenty of parking in the adjacent lots. Based on this experience, I would not hesitate to return and definitely recommend it based on outstanding service, great food quality and portion sizes, and reasonable prices.

Another great experience at Texas Roadhouse! It's an affordable place for filling dinners and guaranteed leftovers for less than $20 if that's what you're aiming for! Got a small sirloin with TWO generous side salads for $15 with a second order of bread and butter. Pro tip: the cinnamon butter can often make the bread app feel too much like dessert. They have regular whipped butter if you ask for it! Now you'll have savory and sweet bread, haha.

Texas Roadhouse is the best! From the staff to their delicious food! Location: It is located in Poughkeepsie, its pandemic so we can't dine in. Service: The staff is always nice in all locations. Food: First of all the FREE BREAD and PEANUTS is the best!! Breads are freshly baked and when it comes it is hot and comes with sweet butter which match it perfectly! Bucket of peanuts is served while you wait for your order! BONE IN RIBEYE: so delicious! Juicy and please make it medium well. Sides are amazing too my faves are BUTTERED CORN and STEAMED VEGETABLES! BBQ RIBS: the meat pulls out of the bone! The sauce is delicious. COMBO GRILLED CHICKEN and 6 oz SIRLOIN: this is perfect for me! Cause I can eat both with a small portion, plus I ended up having to take it home. BAKED SALMON: taste fresh and not that much seasoning so you can actually taste the salmon! CACTUS BLOSSOM: omg this is my favorite here, so crunchy and good! Price rating: 6/10, not bad for amount of food and deliciousness you get! OMG I will definitely go back here for the free bread and peanuts! They are soo good! Buy Cactus Blossom!

I had a smash burger (special) which was a bit too much -- needed one fewer item from the rich salty umami family of flavors, every bite good on its own but a LOT as a dish. Service was wonderful; my friend mentioned that she loved chocolate mousse but was too full for dessert, and our server brought us a to go portion as a bonus with the check. And it was awesome (topped with hazelnuts, sea salt, and a drizzle of olive oil, very good idea well executed).

**November 2025: Thanksgiving Dinner**…read more I made a reservation through Resy about a week before Thanksgiving and was able to successfully secure bar seating for two. We got a text reminder as well as phone call reminder leading up to our reservation. On the day of our reservation we were greeted with a warm smiled and directed to our seats. Since we visited on Thanksgiving Day it was a prix fix menu which included the following: -Bread and Turkey Jam -Winter Squash Soup -Chicory & Arugula Salad -Roasted Turkey Breast -Braised Short Ribs -Ilma's Maple Bourbon Pie -Pumpkin Budin This menu was specifically made for Thanksgiving so I imagine guests who have to wait until the next Thanksgiving to enjoy the fare. What I can say is that the soup was my favorite and the turkey breast was not in the slightest dry. The short ribs were my friends favorite and we both loved the pumpkin budin. Service was polite and efficient and te music was upbeat and lively, despite the restaurant emiting a dark romantic vibe. I'm really thankful that they had reservations available and that the food was delicious since many restaurants in the area were already booked out. Thank you Wayside Tavern for a delicious meal!

We sat in a booth and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. We went in as a party of 4. We had 2 apps, bone marrow and bang bang shrimp. Classic dark steakhouse/grill room atmosphere, open kitchen, good energy, friendly people. Unfortunately, the food execution did not match the appearance or pricing. Our waitress was very nice and genuinely trying, but it was her first night after only a couple hours of training, which showed. To the restaurant's credit, the manager/supervisor was sharp, knowledgeable, and handled questions immediately. The biggest miss was the "Steak & Cheese" appetizer described as: "Beef Carpaccio, Fried Goat Cheese, Greens, Fried Capers, Red Onion, Aioli" What arrived was essentially a large salad topped with thick-cut beef and heavy dressing. I actually had to dig underneath the greens to find the fried goat cheese. Once I found it, the goat cheese itself was excellent. The "carpaccio," however, was not carpaccio in any recognizable form. Thick slices of beef covered in dressing completely missed the point of the dish. I love both carpaccio and fried goat cheese, so this should have been an easy win. I also found the steak menu surprisingly limited for a place presenting itself as a serious grill room. No New York strip, only a "NY Sirloin," plus essentially a ribeye and hanger steak option. Oddly, for Portland, Maine, there was also no lobster on the menu. I ordered the hanger steak entree with fries. The fries were excellent. The hanger steak itself was average at best, especially at the price point. Overall, the restaurant has atmosphere and potential, but the food felt more style than substance. For me, about a 3/5 experience overall.
