Umm when this place first came to town it was awesome. We always go to 98 BBQ which is phenomenal but decided to come back and yikes it was not good. The sides were limited and just ok, not a lot of flavor. The BBQ was meh, the ribs had a weird taste, the Turkey had no taste, I'm not sure if it cuz they were closing. Being someone who isn't familiar with BBQ other than Franklin's in Austin, I wasn't sure if I would like Mos. Brett took our order and he made suggestions of the fried green tomatoes, jalapeño cheese grits, and pulled chicken sandwich. They were excellent and I'm not into bbq. I wish I could give this place 6 stars. I got the brisket platter with green beans, potato salad, and a small thing of banana pudding. Hands down the BEST brisket I've ever had. It was so tender and so juicy...the green beans were seasoned to perfection, and the potato salad had the perfect amount of a mustardy taste but not too overpowering! The potatoes in it were not under cooked or over cooked, they were just right. The banana pudding was also wonderful, very sweet and flavorful. My partner got the pulled pork platter with baked beans. It was also delicious!!!! We're usually big eaters and can put the food away but with the portions we received, we were barely able to walk back to our hotel comfortably haha. We paid around $27 for all and it was WELL worth it. They take pride in their work and I commend that. Thanks Moe's for making this a wonderful BBQ experience. The food was ok..... Cons - * The BBQ was alright, but then again I'm from Texas ;) * The burnt ends were drenched in sauce and the ends had a lot of fat on them. The baked beans were definitely from a can * The greens were fresh greens but the amount of vinegar used was over powering, with very little seasoning. * The mac & cheese was gummy. The portion sizes are very small for the price you pay. Pros- The seafood, particularly the catfish and shrimp were amazing. It was perfectly seasoned. Vacationed in Destin and tried Moe's one night for dinner. My husband and I shared a catfish plate and a smoked wing plate. EVERYTHING was very flavorful and delicious. I mean perfectly seasoned. Sometimes smoked wings have gummy skin which isn't great. Not these! They are smoked and then lightly fried. Let me tell you, now I want to smoke and lightly fry all my wings. The white BBQ dipping sauce was a great accompaniment. The catfish was crispy, the sides were great, and the jalapeño cornbread dipped in my lima beans made a small tear fall. The kids got the kids ribs - although there were only 2 they were amazing. The kids loved them! They didn't care much for the chips but.... My oldest got the adult ribs, Mac and cheese and gumbo. Again the ribs were a hit. The Mac and cheese he didn't care for the everyone else did. The gumbo was great. The rest of us got the brisket sandwich, perfection. We absolutely loved almost everything we ordered. Nicole answered a ton of questions that I had and even gave me a sample of the potato salad. I am really picky when it comes to potato salad. While it was good, I did opt for the baked beans and Mac and cheese. Another person in my party ordered the green beans and they were the bomb. Don't let the parking lot deter you. You park at the rear of the restaurant and it is kind of a put off but GO IN. We loved the vibe inside and service was wonderful. You do order outside which is a little odd but no big deal. Moe's is always great! Their prices are reasonable and portions are filling. I love the smoked chicken wings with the white sauce. Their sweet tea is Southern for sure, for those not raised in the South, be sure to try the sweet tea first, you may find you need about a 2/3 sweet tea and 1/3 unsweet tea to prevent your pancreas from going into shock. Their cornbread is awesome! We have been many times before, but this last time (Nov 30) we noticed Moe's has stopped using the small styrofoam cups for sides and replaced them with paper serving trays for the sides. Moe's BBQ is one of those places we have to stop at every time we head down to Destin Florida. It's a little barbecue joint that really qualifies as a shack. But they do make great barbecue. I can't complain one bit about anything that you get there. The ribs are big, meaty, smoky and delicious. The chicken is smoked just right. They have Alabama white sauce that you can put on top of it. The Smoked Turkey was juicy and yummy. They do not have Brisket. Their sides are great as well. Potato Salad southern style. Greens, string greens. Baked beans all hit the spot. Very casual Beach vibe. Take out is easy. Parking is out back. Prices are fair. Very clean including the restrooms. This is the second Moes location I have reviewed. May I say their barbecue was absolutely outstanding as well as their sides. This location was very consistent with the one I reviewed in Orange Beach, AL. The pulled pork is spot on, the collard greens are excellent, the cornbread is great and the slaw is perfect.
