Came here for a quick dinner with my dad and it was okay. The service was good and the guys behind the counter were friendly. There were some customers in there without masks on which is kind of messed up considering there's a mask mandate in Hamden right now. I'm sure it's uncomfortable to tell customers they need to put a mask on, but the employees should work up the courage to do so considering it's a food establishment. As far as the quality of the food, it was decent. I liked my quesadilla, but they didn't put enough cheese for the toppings to stick together and everything was falling out as I was eating it. The chips were a bit salty, too. I've always liked Moes, but I think the quality has gone a little downhill since I last had it a few years ago. My stack was good but I have to comment on the new lemonade machines. The strawberry and regular lemonade in the crafter lemonade machines were no good. No good to the point where when I drank a sip my stomach immediately started to hurt. When I sniffed it I immediately knew that it had been in those machines way longer then they should have. Haven't been here in a while so I tried it again to see if they've improved. Their food used to be bland and salty. I did enjoy this bowl a bit more than the last one, but the improvement was only marginal. One thing I like about Moe's is the fact that they use fresh, clean ingredients, so I know that my (vegan) bowls are healthy. However, although it tastes a little better now and it thankfully wasn't as salty, my enjoyment overall was still mediocre. There just isn't that much flavor; in particular the guac is disappointing because it almost tastes like they didn't season it at all. It's not bad, but it's nothing spectacular either. Maybe if you get something non-vegan then you might have a better experience than I did, but I'd much rather go to the Chipotle down the street. read more

I received an email stating that burritos and burrito bowls would be $5.55 each 5th of the month along with chips and salsa. With no dinner plans I'm place, I decided to place an order for pickup. It was ready at the indicated time. I opted for the bowl. The produce did make the meal cold. And, unlike a known competitor, their non-meat protein is restricted to tofu. I understand that there is a pandemic, and as a result there are a lot of restrictions, but once upon a COVID-Free time, we had a variety of salsa we could choose from along with selecting a few containers. Now, we just receive a bag of chips with one container. Hopefully the staff would give you extra if requested. I didn't ask. Lucky me, or so I thought. My husband and son brought me lunch today, since I was one of the few people in my office on New Years Eve. We have eaten at several Moe's restaurants throughout Connecticut. We have never been disappointed, until today. If I had never eaten at another Moe's, I would've probably never given the chain a second thought. I have come up with my perfect meal at Moe's; a chicken JC (quesadilla) with pico, olives & cilantro. I can order the same thing from any location and I am guaranteed a great meal. Unfortunately, this location had run out of chicken. My husband asked the manager if they would sub the steak for the same price. She told him no, but said that he could wait 10 minutes for the chicken. Unable to wait, he subbed the steak for the chicken. Let's just say my "perfect meal" does not work with steak. It did not help that the steak was very chewy and the pico had turned. Having only eaten a half of my quesadilla, I grabbed the chips and guacamole. They must've been training someone new, because this guac was missing the onions, cilantro and lime! Bland, warm, mush is the best description I could give this. From poor customer service and food prep to turned food, I'm not sure how this location remains open. read more

What the heck happened to this place?? They have completely ruined it! It use to be a happy "welcome to Moe's" place years ago. Every time I go it's been worse and worse but yesterday... completely awful! I walk in and 2 staff members are chatting near the salsa and a lady yells to them something about serving me. A 3rd guy that must of finished his shift is literally laying down in a booth! I try to make a light hearted joke to them but they are looking almost pissed to be bothered. (There's definitely no welcome to Moe's here). I ordered chicken burrito for my husband... it's so disgustingly dark in color and hard that my husband thinks it's steak! This was the worst food I ever tried in my whole life , I ate a chicken bowl , food was probably from yesterday....

Last night, I ordered 3 bowls and 1 quesadilla - 2 bowls with cilantro lime rice and the other bowl and quesadilla with their seasoned rice. There was no sour cream with the quesadilla and lettuce was missing from one of the bowls. The other bowl may have been missing the steak too but we aren't sure. I took a bite from my bowl- extremely salty. I mixed it around but my second bite was still very salty. I called Moe's. The girl who picked up, kept on insisting that I only had 1 item with cilantro lime rice and that the seasoned rice had a lot of seasoning! She told me to call today to speak with the manager. I took the lids of the bowls and went to Moe's. Even after I showed her, she had the attitude " ok, so?". She refused to admit she had been wrong. The manager whom she had said wasn't there, suddenly appeared. He told me that he had put the lettuce in the bowl and that the food couldn't have been salty and that customers aren't always right. After a lot of talking, he finally asked me what I wanted- I said I want an apology from the girl for insisting that I had ordered something different. The manager then apologized on her behalf. When I asked him why the other girl had told me to call today when the manager was there yesterday, I was told "she thought you wanted a refund"!!! read more

Disgusting customer service 2/20/2021. Kenneth the manager in Derby was complaining about how busy he was and was defensive and on attack mode. Chris another manager was no help. They never picked up the phone when I called. Jaylen or jayla the manager at this store is disgusting and last time I came in she had headphones in her ear and was having a personal conversation with another employee in the middle of the restaurant and could hear her employee calling her for help at the register. Ok, I've come here a lot. I have 18 check-ins here and many more visits where I've forgotten to check in. Everytime I visit, I basically order the Home Wrecker burrito with either chicken, steak, or pork, rice, black beans, corn pico, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and diced onions. The only variation other than my selection of protein is if I will add queso to my burrito. I have an intolerance to tomatoes so I order the corn pico because it only has a little bit of them in there. Today I ordered a Home Wrecker pork burrito and the woman who was putting the toppings on it put on diced tomatos instead of diced onions. I said politely that I actually asked for diced onions and she said that I didn't. Look, I understand that sometimes we all miss-speak but I know that I asked for diced onions and especially since I have a sensitivity to tomatoes, I would never ask for them alone. I told her I was sure that I asked for diced onions and she said no you didn't... Okay, even if I didn't ask for the correct ingredient, you're really going to argue with a regular customer over this? I told her that I have an allergy to tomatoes so I would never order them alone and she said "If you had an allergy you wouldn't have gotten the corn pico since it has tomatoes in it." Well, okay, it's an intolerance and I know that I can tolerate what is in the corn pico. Since when was this a dissertation for a thesis? I'd just like my burrito made correctly and without a poor attitude. I'll admit I like a quick drop in for nachos loaded with whatever I want on a night after a long day at work. I haven't seen a moe's in a while and was surprised when I happened upon this location in the Hamden plaza. Situated next to froyoworld, this moe's location is usually busy with everyone from young kids to the college crowd to the parents who want a relatively inexpensive meal. And if you're like me, and like to be quick about a meal, now there's even an app for order ahead and skip the line. Which, yes there usually is a line, however it goes quickly. I've gotten everything from the burrito (just ok) to the nachos (love) to the salad (choice 2). The steak is great, chicken good and spicy. I'm not a beans and rice person (yes I know, but still....) the remainder of the toppings are always fresh! Love the avocado and the queso! Plus, make it a meal and get even more queso or guac with a heaping bag of hot and fresh chips (yes, too much when one is already having nachos but that's the way I like it)! The restaurant is clean, they always greet the customers with a "welcome to moe's" which is cool although I'd like to count how many times they say this in a shift. The bathroom was clean. They have a bar of salsa for free (bonus for those extra chips mind you) as well as one of those massive soda machines that dispense every drink and flavor of drink one could desire. Parking in Hamden plaza is usual. Watch out and look both ways multiple times when crossing the street to the restaurant because cars come out of nowhere. Literally. read more

This has probably been my worst experience at Moes. The staff was incredibly rude and lazy. We asked for a bowl of queso at checkout and the lady wearing a baseball cap with her hair in a big bun said "sorry we ran out". Well that couldn't have been furthest from the truth because as we collected our food to go sit down we noticed several other people enjoying queso and after we sat down they served queso to other customers right after us. So obviously she was incredibly lazy and didn't want to serve us. Furthermore after checkout she left our food on the trays behind the counter and then walked off. I started to reach over to collect it ourselves but then I stopped and thought "maybe it was not all there, that must be why she didn't hand it to us" well once she realized I stopped leaning across the counter to get it myself and I was now waiting for her, she proceeded to run over and hand it to us and said that our food was all set. After sitting and realizing that there was indeed queso and that she lied I decided to go up and order some. Which was then served in the most sloppy way with queso pouring down all around every side of the cup. This time when I went to checkout after taking my card to swipe several employees stood around for a few minutes looking at a chart and talking about their schedule or something. Holy shit I don't know where to begin. First of all the wrappage of the burrito was horrendous. I don't know who's mouth would be able to get around that thing. Secondly, all I could taste was lime. I don't know how it's possible for a meal to have such little flavor and so much flavor at the same time. But all of it was absolutely foul. "Welcome to Moe's!" -this is burned in the employee's brains as they are forced to recite it wth every time a customer opens the door to enter. The menu is slightly confusing. They have names on most of their items, but it barely describes what is in each one. Basically you just end up ordering without using the items names. If I wasn't a burrito with A, B, C and D on it. It's just easier to order it like that. Their queso (white thick cheese sauce to dip chips in) is ok. They have a fill your open container salsa bar after you pay with is a nice touch, we usually just get this take out. Otherwise, to sit down this place has the same sort of atmosphere as a Subway. read more

My dining experience at Moe's Southwest Grill in Hamden, CT was repugnant from start to finish. Every detail, from the salsa-stained receptacles, to the tortilla chip crumbs lining the kitchen and dining area floors, was unconditionally revolting. My evening commenced with a line approximately seven patrons in length--short for a line staff concerned with expediting the customer service process, but long for a crew who cannot wait to clock-out of their burrito assembly responsibilities. To their credit, filling a tortilla with rice, then scooping in a protein, without ever knowing what it is like to then dollop sour cream or guacamole into the entree (as their co-worker handles that half of the process), must be psychologically torturous to a degree I'll never understand, after potentially working what could very well could be their nine hundredth shift or greater. Regardless, I waited the fifteen minutes before being served in order to experience "Mo Mondays," the fabled, yet obviously dismaying $5.99 burrito special. I attempted to ask my server if queso was included in the promotion. Much to my disappointment, it wasn't, but what was even more disappointing was having to ask the same question in three different ways in order to effectively communicate the contents of my inquiry. Much to my amusement, all ingredients were covered with plastic lids. What is the purpose of said lids when the shredded lettuce is a wilted brown so unappetizing, I seriously contemplated abandoning my order in progress entirely. The meat cooking process was also peculiar. The raw slabs enter a tanning bed-like contraption that quickly cooks the meat; a spectacle that entertained waiting patrons with its great size and steam. Sadly however, the chicken wound up being dryer than the desert climate of the region of cuisine Moe's unsuccessfully attempts to emulate. The "corn salsa" appeared so unnaturally sculpted, it was apparent the staff had little desire to at least make it appear like it wasn't spooned out of a can twenty minutes prior. After paying for the entree, I made my way to the salsa bar. This was perhaps the only remotely adequate aspect of my experience. The salsa was chilled, and the bar was surprisingly free of drips and stains from the long day's duties of dishing out the only saving grace of this godforsaken establishment. I then wandered over to the soda machine, which was filthy and unkempt to a level rarely observed in chain restaurants. The ice dispenser had not seen a hot cloth in, what in my estimation, was several days or perhaps weeks. I quickly determined I would rehydrate when I returned home. I won't waste my time elaborating on the putrid qualities of the burrito. I will however mention the rice. Rice in a burrito is the foundation, the bedrock of the meal if you will. How a restaurant, that prides itself in Latin inspired cuisine, can undercook rice, will remain an unanswered question the most brilliant of minds will forever have to postulate. The staleness of the tortilla chips, an element so basic, so easy to amend, is really what moved me to draft this review. Would it be beyond any one of the half dozen employees to try one of the chips slated to be consumed for freshness? Moe's Southwest Grill must seriously consider if it wants to continue doing business in this community, or even on a national scale. At this rate, it may very well be an opportunity to buy stock in Chipotle. read more

Went to Moe's today in Hamden to get a bowl. Came in and saw they had a new steak and seasoned potato bowl so I figured I'd give it a try. First the employee starts the make the bowl and puts queso on it even though I didn't ask so he had to toss that one out. Then he starts to make the second one adds a good amount a rice and no lie about a half scoop of steak so I politely asked if they could add some more and he said "so you want double" I said "no I just want a little bit more" he said "I can't do that it costs extra" so I said whatever and he adds the extra in which as we know costs a few bucks. I get to the register they put my bowl in add the double meat and then charge me even extra for the potatoes!!!! No one told me!!!!! Would I get them again... possibly... but you would think maybe tell the customer they're about to pay $2 for some damn potatoes in a bowl that already costs like $14. Ended up paying $16 and change for 1 bowl because he doesn't give me a real full scoop of steak. Never had this problem with Moe's before not sure I'll be back to this location. read more

Do not waste your time with online ordering at this location. Seems like a great, convenient was to get your food quickly - however every single thing they got wrong. Forgot toppings added to my burrito, didn't take things out of my husband's quesadilla, and didn't include the queso we paid for. The recipe showed all of the correct items, however the staff failed to read it. When ordering from the website it automatically asks you to tip, really disappointed that you're asked to tip BEFORE you even know if your order will be correct. It's a Moe's. That means you get the obligatory "Welcome to Moe's" greeting when you walk through the door. No doubt at least four highly paid MBA types thought of the policy....and another one thought of the corny menu item names. Any dignity I had left after walking though the door escaped me later when I asked for a "Joey bag of chips" burrito. I felt like a five year old. Forest Gump would love this place. Stupid is, stupid does. I've eaten at plenty of Moe's and Chipotle's to make a fair comparison, and I give a slight nod to Chipotle. I don't know what it is but I think Chipotle uses slightly better ingredients. For those not familiar with Moe's, it serves Mexican fast food. It's not on the same level as Taco Bell, but neither is it on the same level as dining at your friend's Mexican grandmother's house. Unlike Chipotle, Moe's does give you free chips and salsa. So they're OK in my book. By the way, regarding food choices, this side of the Hamden Plaza is slowing turning into a dream-come-true for all Hamden teenagers. There's a Panera Bread, a Chili's, a froyo bar, a pizza joint, and now there's a Moe's restaurant. The only thing missing from the plaza is the old auto graveyard. Long time locals will know what I'm talking about. As a little kid, the strange looking "art" scared the bejeebees out of me. read more

It's typically a friendly atmosphere and there's a good variety of toppings for burritos, etc. Queso does cost extra but it's very good so it's worth it to splurge. I've had delivery,takeout, and have eaten in at this location. The food is what it's supposed to be: fast food. I'm surprised by the negative comments regarding the employees. They've never been rude when I've been. I usually order the wrong Doug. I will say anytime I do takeout or delivery they ALWAYS forget the queso. This Moe's location needs to reconsider it's employees training. Often they give you a hard time about your debit card not being signed and all sorts of other nonsense. I'm buying a $7 burrito not ordering $500 in catering. Get over it! The food is your standard fare and certainly fills you up. I like that they offer chips for free when places like Chipotle now charge you for them. The salsa bar is nice but could certainly be a bit more aesthetically pleasing. Never had a bad experience here. The pulled pork is the way to go. Get the burrito with all the fixins, especially fresh AND pickled jalapeños with tons of hot sauce, and on Mondays, it's $6.99 for a huge honkin' one with chips AND a drink. Eff the naysayers.
