Delicious ! We went yesterday early and were able to sit outside. Drinks were delicious - I had a spicy margarita (perfect spice level). The garlic naan and onion bread were delicious. The RAJASTHANI MIRCHI PAKORA reminded me of a stuffed jalapeño popper. MASTANI BAI CRISPY PALAK PATE CHAAT was super delicious ! Loved the yogurt sauce. We split Kadai paneer which was also delicious ! GULKAND KI PHIRNI for dessert was delicious. Larson was very helpful in making suggestions and his service was great. read more

Everything that we've eaten from here has been very authentic and delicious. The restaurant is in a nice location with a large parking lot and has a nice upscale ambience and a drink menu. The price is a bit high for Indian food, if you were getting take out I would say you could get it from somewhere cheaper and it would be just as good. But if you're looking for a nice place to dine in it is worth the price! The only complaint I have is that they charge an arm and a leg for plain basmati rice. You could go buy a 20 pound bag of basmati rice at the grocery store around the corner for as much as they're charging for a few orders of rice to go with your entrees. (The entrees do not come with rice). Also be prepared to be there for awhile, service is extremely slow even when they aren't busy. read more

Food was excellent! We made reservations for 5:30pm on a Saturday. This restaurant definitely gets busier closer to 7pm, especially on the weekends so reservations are highly recommended. We ordered the Daal Mahkni, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Biryani, and Chicken Tikka (basically Tandoori chicken). The Daal, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Biryani were all very mild and not spicy, which was appreciated. I'm sure you could ask for a specific spice level. The flavors were excellent, very rich while being complex and full of flavor without relying on spice and heat. Everyone loved it, especially our first-time-Indian-food-trying guests! We also ordered Basmati Rice (2 orders was enough for 5 people). I understand why some people knock this restaurant since we ended up paying 16.50 for 3 orders of Basmati Rice, as it does not come with the entrees. Kind of absurd that a single order of plain rice costs more than their homemade Garlic Naan, but that's just something you have to walk into accepting. Service was also a bit slow, we didn't get our Chicken Tikka (from the Tandoor oven) until we had finished our meals - they said the oven was taking some time to heat up, but it was excellent nonetheless. We had also communities at the start of our meal that we would be placing a takeout order midway through our meal. No one stopped by the entire meal for us to order this, and it wasn't until we had our checks that we were able to place our takeout order. The restaurant was getting busier and busier, and I could tell that staff was itching to get us out of cleared table to seat more guests. However, as we were enjoying each other's company and waiting for our takeout order, we stayed put but I could tell they were getting antsy about it which I feel is a bit wrong. We've done solely takeout before and had no problems, everything traveled well and food was ready on time. Nonetheless, the food is pricey, sure, but the flavors are excellent. Horrible experience with grub hub almost 2hr wait, but the food definitely made up for it. The murgh tikka masala was on point. I felt that the naan was kind of a rip off, 1 garlic naan was 5 bucks? But it was delicious. Chicken 65 was very spicy so be warned. read more

Mogul has unethical practice when it comes to the bill. Last week I had gone for a lunch buffet with a friend - 2 people. The restaurant added 20% tip for a buffet without asking and that to 20% of the total amount including tax. The tip is at discretion for exceptional service AND only on the food items; people dont tip the tax. Mogul demanded it by adding to the bill. In the past, I had noticed that they would add 15% service charge to the bill and then if you run the credit card it would add the tip on top of it. I came here for their lunch buffet with several friends, and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was very pleasant, the staff were very friendly, and the food was great, with - for us - just the right amount of spice to make everything quite flavorful without being intense. A feature here I've not seen elsewhere is their "samosa station," where a samosa was plated and garnished for us, garnished with chutney, chickpeas, 2 sauces, and some herbs (cilantro?). The combination of toppings worked really well with the samosa. Fresh naan was brought to the table. The buffet had many familiar dishes but a few less common, such as paneer masala (really good). The kheer today was a bit different too - it was warm, with a much more prominent vanilla flavor, and 1/2" strips of vermicelli instead of rice. It was unusual to look at and to taste, bot otherwise good. I learned later in the weekend that some of my local friends say this is their favorite Indian restaurant in the area. We were a group of 7 (4 adults, 3 kids) that were here for lunch buffet today. Variety for appetizers is less (only 1 veg appetizer and 1 non veg appetizer) maybe becoz it is week day buffet. But everything was great, from the food taste to spacing to the people attending us. Valentine helped us today and he was super sweet to our kids - gave them mango lassi, answered their questions and helped them finding food. Overall the experience was good and the food was fantastic. read more

Update: Wow. Things have really changed here. Not only has the food quality deteriorated ( My goat curry was terribly chewy and not cooked right at all but husbands dish was barely eatable due to being too overly spicy. I cant understand WHY they just cant seem to accommodate guests requests for how spicy they want their food to be?? Unless you like yours very spicy then forget it. I thought this was supposed to be "fine" dinning? The service is still okay but they charged us $10 each for drinking a bottle of our own wine even thou the host said it was only going to be one $10 charge. Since the pandemic began their prices have more than doubled and literally everything is extra price. No rice or bread included with anything?! They charged about $13 just for two naans. Then, they added a 20% tip to the bill! Wen were only two people eating!! We have always tipped well but seriously, thats quite daring of you. Seems like they are trying to get even more of a tip out of unsuspecting clients because they dont bother to mention this new practice. The place is also starting to look run down from the inside and out. Because of these reasons, we are sad to say we will not be returning unless things change. SAD!! because we had liked this place. Indian Nan was cold stacked up not warm at all, Only one Buffet stand so It's like Hurry up and Wait! Moghul has been recommended to me several times by Indian people who I work with. This was my 2nd time dining at Moghul, both times for the buffet. This is one of the largest Indian buffet that I've been to through the years, and by far, the most authentic. The flavors were bold and delicious. While the fish curry was extremely spicy, the paneer was refreshing. Plenary of selections including a nice dessert table. I highly recommend Moghul and it is worth the $15.99 per person price. read more

The worst Experience I ever had . The manger was the worst. We had parents with us who were fasting so we were just inquiring that how does the gratuity work . 4 of us were going to have the dinner . We were asked to sit down , We were assigned a table. We started looking at the menu and I realized that we were given water glasses totally different than the other tables . We did not bother about it. Then we started looking at the menu because we had to order for 4 of us. Manger did not like the fact that only 4 out of 6 of us were ordering . So he came to us and asked us to change the table. He was like that you could order at your pace and he did not like that we were only 4 ordering and from the moment we sat I felt he did not like us as we inquired about the gratuity . We are not the resident of NJ and coming from CT , we were not sure how the system here was working. It felt so insulting , as we were all set to order and he came to us as he wanted us to go to the side table . There were other American guests were dining as well. Would he had done such kind of behavior to them ? An Indian doing bad behavior to other Indian ? In this world such a bad mindset when we talk about equality. Is this the customer service ? What does it matter even if the food is good ? Such a bad experience on this Thanksgiving. For sure letting our other friends visiting from CT to boycott this restaurant. Ah, the famous Moghul in Edison. Been hearing about this place for years, about how it is the best Indian restaurant in NJ. Anytime we would eat at any other Indian restaurant in the state, inevitably someone would say, "you have to go to Moghul." Ok, so we did. We went with some friends in the know, and had them order 100%. The food was good, delicious in fact. But the place didn't blow me away. Thus the 3 stars for the overall experience. I cannot do justice to describing the food or listing the proper names of the dishes, some highlights as best as i can remember: brussels sprouts chaat, naan (butter, plain, garlic, and one filled with onions), fried shrimp which my favorite thing all night, fried fish, samosas, tandoori chicken (awesome), lamb chops, spicy paneer with yellow sauce, paneer saag, butter chicken, basmati rice. All were great. One that tasted off was this fish with some sort of coconut paste wrapped in a banana leaf. Desserts were good- gulub jaman and rasma lai and some layers ice cream that tasted like bubble gum. A negative were the drinks, well below average. The cocktail menu looked interesting and promising. But my old fashioned tasted like cough syrup, my wife's lychee martini was not good. I tried the Taj Mahal lager which was ok, had somewhat of a sickly sweet finish. And a glass of a 2019 Julia James Pinot Noir which tasted like a warm cheap house wine bottle that's been open too long served in a small cheap glass that really made it worse. Again food was great. In the right setting this place would be 5 stars. But it was something about the decor, the whole layout of the place, neither traditional nor modern, not comfortable or cool, kind of messy. The whole thing didn't sit right. Service was lackluster as well. Servers weren't smiling or overly friendly. My wife asked for coffee several times and never got it. Our friend got one and just gave her hers. And I've eaten at plenty of Indian resturants in my life, so the review isn't because this is the first time I've experienced Indian cuisine. so bottom line from me: food good, drinks bad, place meh, overall experience meh. read more

Very disappointed. When I worked in Iselin before COVID, my entire office would enjoy the luncheon buffet each week. I stopped in today for a pricey $18.95 lunch, alone. There were no appetizers. I searched for a piece of Tandoori Chicken that wasn't a back. No luck. The veggies were frozen crinkle cut carrots. But then the final bill was $24.25. A 20% charge was added for service, what service? A glass of water? Removing a plate? I didn't mind supporting our service sector and tipped generously during COVID. Two days ago, I ordered whole tandoori chicken and chicken biryani for takeout, tandoori chicken was a waste of money, it was burnt so sour that it felt like it was dipped in acid uncooked from inside and chewy. The quality and quantity has gone down 90% and price went up 50% since 2021. Biryani was filled with boiled potatoes and one thigh chicken piece. I will never visit that restaurant again. read more

Went for dinner today with my wife. Had Kurkuri Bhindi for an app. It was very delicious - no complaints. For dinner we got the Kashmiri lamb Roganjosh & Murg Hydrabadi. Both were flavored very well. Also had rice and naan. A little surprised that we have to pay for plain basmati rice. Most Indian restaurants, the rice would have come with the entree. Food was very good, service was good. Any place that has a lunch buffet, where they provide made to order jhalmuri (well that's what we call it at least) gets an extra star from me. Decent buffet, with constant refills of food, so it doesn't taste stale. I like how they sectioned out the buffet line where the non vegetarian items are on one side, and the other table has most of the vegetarian items. My personal favorites were the shrimp curry, tandoori chicken, the jhalmuri, the biryani and the kheer. Beware the stray cardamom pod that you might bite into and then have your whole meal ruined. read more

My wife found this restaurant online and within short driving distance from Staten Island. Located in a strip mall, we found this place to be a hidden gem. The decor was nice but more importantly, the staff was very attentive and we were seated immediately. The place seemed busy but the waiter seemed to be available whenever we needed him and helped us decide on our dinner choices. It wasn't too noisy but the noise level was enough where you could speak freely. The food tasted great and was prepared to perfection. We will be returning. read more

What the heck happened to the great Moghul buffet? They redecorated and took all of the value out of the food. Pieces of tandoori chicken were tiny and unrecognizable, used to be actual chicken pieces (like drumsticks and thighs), same with chicken curry- what kind of meat is this?, they used to have a guy making appetizers, just old somosas sitting in a pan now., and no basmati rice. Even the methi malai mattar didn't taste anything like green peas - it used to be perfect! So not worth it anymore, we brought people here from out of town as we always do and we were embarrassed at the drastic drop in goodness. At least the waiters are happy with the tips. read more

Perhaps due to Valentine's day, but when I ask 3 times for extra Pappadums and never get them.. it was annoying. That's why I only gave 3 stars. The food quality was outstanding with the mixed grill appetizer and the mango lassi. The main course was outstanding. So the food quality was indeed worth the trip to Little India. Came here for lunch on our way back to Maryland from NY. The place has very fresh food, but I wish there were more options for the buffet price we paid.
