What a lovely hotel to stay in while in downtown SA! If you are looking for immediate walking access to the Riverwalk this hotel IS on the Riverwalk, but away from the hustle and hustle. It's the much quieter side of the Riverwalk, but also very close and convenient. A short walk and enjoyable if the weather is nice. We stayed during freezing temperatures and the hotel staff ahead of our stay was so gracious to voluntarily send some some extra soft blankets to our room to keep extra warm. They were super cozy and soft! Staff is so kind and helpful. Upon arrival we were greeted with champagne at check in and they had it for a few days throughout our stay at certain times in the lobby. Also our dog absolutely loved the treats and doggy bed in the lobby. Totally eed to buy him this bed! When there wasn't champagne there was delicious hot chocolate in the lobby to brave the cold. Absolutely delicious I think they used Abuelita Mexican Hot Chocolate or at least it tasted like it. Best hot chocolate I've had in a hotel! The rooms are equipped with lots of goodies, but be careful they do cost, but are there should you need them. My favorite part is their robes. They are unique and cozy. Also it's so nice that on each floor they have a water station. You can pick sparkling or still. The sparkling water holds its fizz forever! Also fresh fruit like apples or oranges is replenished daily. Beds beyond comfy, clean and it smells lovely in the hotel. Can't wait to come back and enjoy the patios when it's warm! Appreciate the hospitality!

I stayed here during Fiesta this year upon walking in they had the lobby decorated, with a backdrop for pics and fiesta like decor around the lobby, they even had their own pin which proceeds went to a local children's charity. We were greeted and everyone was polite. Through the credit card we booked with they were able to upgrade our room. It was spacious and had a nice view of the pool. I liked how there was a small living area, I loved using the nespresso coffee machine. The water machine also had options for still or sparkling- something I gave not seen before. The pool area was a bit small but for a rooftop it was alright. I enjoyed my stay here. Would return.

This was our second time at the Thompson and we left a little bit disappointed. As I said in my first review, the hotel is gorgeous and such a unique romantic setting. We have stayed here twice for a quick getaway and the staff was fantastic. We were greeted with a bottle of champagne in our room for our anniversary, great attention to detail. However, in both stays we have had maintenance issues that were both dangerous. On the first stay, the closet door came off and almost hit my wife. We reported it to maintenance but it was not fixed during our brief stay. On this trip, a large metal bar which provides structural integrity to the glass shower came loose and fell a few inches from hitting my 2 year old in the head. We were lucky that neither of these situations resulted in injury, but there is definitely some maintenance that needs to be addressed.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The overall service was average, though the valet team was excellent. My room was also missing the security lock, which was concerning. Overall, compared to other hotels I've stayed at, the experience felt fairly average.

Fun place for a staycation if you want upscale vibes- one huge perk is having the moons daughter rooftop bar with a great view of the city. Also got to use the pool- it was honestly quite crowded, and they need more shade/seats other than the cabanas that take up most of the space and cost hundreds to rent out but we still had several drinks and had fun with the DJ playing. They have a cute coffee bar that made really tasty and strong lattes even though it took a long time, but I was in no rush. The bathrooms were very nice, and I love how good everything smelled- they have lotion from DSD Durga that I REALLY wish I could have took home with me lol. This is not a hotel for last minute booking or families, I think it is the perfect spot when you are willing to splurge on a treat yourself weekend or with a partner/friends! In a great spot near restaurants and night life.

This was our first time visiting The Thompson. We decided to spend New Year's weekend and let me say our beloved La Cantera may be downgraded. The room was so beautifully designed, modern and hip!! Purposely didn't put pictures so you could be surprised like we were. And the bathroom The very best part, they allow doggies!! It's 100% pet friendly. So we were VERY happy. But the one complaint is this and I know I'm not the only one to mention, but no designated dog potty area. It was kinda strange. We walked along the river which wasn't bad at all. As matter fact, there's a walkway jetting down to the river from the hotel very convenient. We will definitely be returning.

Definitely recommend this hotel! It's not far from the Riverwalk. It's about a 10 minute walk. Staff was amazing every time we encountered them no matter what. They loved asking if you are enjoying your stay and recommending things to do within the hotel! There was plenty to do. The roof top bar was amazing even on a foggy night. I think valet is the only option for parking however not completely sure. Breakfast options were nice. Steak wasn't as seasoned as I would have liked but wasn't completely disappointed. Definitely recommend this hotel when you want to get away but still have things to do.

I am very glad I didn't go by the review ranking here on my beloved Yelp, since I may have raised my eyebrows and been a tad concerned. Another rating site provided a 5 star rating from 874 reviews, however in reality I didn't check either before booking my trip. If I were to give this a one sentence review, it would be, Is there a valium lick in the employee lounge? We were having a local staycation, if you would and just wanted to get out of Austin for a few days and the Thompson looked sleek, modern and new. They had a couple of restaurants on site, access to the Riverwalk and a spa. Seemed for us a logical choice. From our first contact with the Valet's, there was happiness. We came up to checkin desk, more happiness. Bell hop bringing our bag to our room, happiness and information x 2. In fact, every friggin person in the hotel is happy and accomodating. In this world of conflict and negativity, it was a bit uncomfortable at first, but then you just roll with it. Hence my thought there is that lick in the employee lounge. However, we felt these folks genuinely enjoyed what they were doing and made us feel at home. Upon entry, you are greeted by a massive face sculpture on your left. It resembled what I probably felt like the next morning. There is art all through the hotel as if you were in a gallery. This theme extended to your room. We were staying in a skyline view suite on the 11th floor. It was well appointed with a bar, fridge living/sitting room and a humongous bathtub and shower. The view outside was captivating for me as I woke up early to stare outside wondering if my head was stll actually attached to my neck from the prior evening's debauchery. There were black out curtains and pocket doors which seperated the bedroom from the living room. The bed was very comfortable and A/C worked well to keep us cool. There are two huge TV's which use a streaming system for all you personal streaming apps from your phone. So, if you personally subscribe to streaming apps, make sure you have them downloaded to your phone with log in and passwords. Quite handy, after I figured it out. It was easy, but as an older dude, it took a a couple attempts before I got it right. There are also bluetooth radios which you can link to your Spotify or what have you apps. The property has a pool area which we checked out, little to hot for us, but cool cabana's and a pool side bar. A spa, which we didn't take advantage of, a roof top bar and restaurant on the bottom floor. I will review those seperately. We did get room service breakfast both mornings which is provided by Landrace. One item, you won't go hungry with these portions and you definitely get value from the price point. There is a complimentary coffee bar in the lobby as well as a nespresso machine in your room. They also have a pretty environmentally sensitive water system which provides you with your own water bottle and refill stations on each floor. Grab a tangerine while you are at it. On check in, we worked with a lad originally from Liverpool and we had some great banter regarding footy teams and on check out, a lovely lady helped me with getting a print out and waiving our early departure fee due to an unexpected issue needing us to get home a day earlier than planned and booked. Unfortunately I do not recall their names. Mando our bell hop was a plethora of information and extremely helpful. Other stand-outs in the way of service was Diego the bar keep in Landrace and the cute little bitty student teacher gal, whose name I don't believe I asked for. A big shout out to Rem in the kitchen and upstairs in Moon Daughters, Johnny on the spot mixed a great drink and Ariel was as attentive as you could wish for a server to be. What a great experience and we will definitely be back to stay again.

What set it apart wasn't simply the beautiful hotel or location -- it was the level of personal care. Ariel at the concierge desk was wonderful. She helped arrange safe airport transportation for my friend when she arrived before me and, when my flight was significantly delayed, made sure she could check in without me. Being stuck traveling and knowing she was in good hands was invaluable. We were welcomed with a personal note, fruit, flowers and champagne, and then surprised with more birthday treats during our spa day. Those thoughtful details made the entire stay feel special. And the SPA! Easily one of the best I've ever visited. Being able to truly relax before and after our treatments -- especially in the beautiful post-treatment lounge -- made it an experience rather than simply a massage appointment. Jessica gave me what was quite literally the best massage I've ever had (and I've had a lot of massages!). Even the little things stood out: complimentary morning coffee delivered through room service and an incredibly kind and helpful room-service attendant. Luxury hotels can have beautiful rooms and impressive amenities. What made Mokara exceptional was how genuinely cared for we felt from beginning to end. The personal touches made all the difference. A great variety and the omelette station is excellent. You choose what you like, then the gentleman will put it together! It was delicious. The host Amber was friendly and told us about the San Antonio Saga at the San Fernando Cathedral. She also told us about the Pearl District, but I don't think we will have time to visit this trip. The happy hour was nice. The bartender Steve hustled when they got busy! He smiled and was very appreciative of tips!. I think most people forget the importance of tips to these guys! The snacks the first night were mixed snacks and goldfish, chips and salsa and tomatillo sauce veggie platter and crackers. (Oddly, no cheese for the crackers) the second night, chips and fresh made onion dip and cheese and crackers. Great stay at a nice location!

My hotel did…read morenot offer an EV charger, but the Hyatt Regency was just a block or so away and it popped up in my EV charger Google search. When I got to their valet I explained how I was not staying with them but I needed an overnight charge so that I can make it back to Austin the next morning. They were super nice and helpful and explained how the charger was in use but that it would be freed up soon. They promised to do it for me so I didn't have to worry about waiting on the other vehicle. The next morning my 2020 Nissan LEAF was fully charged and ready to go! Additional disclaimer: I'm not sure what brand they have but I got a sense that it might be a Tesla level 2 charger (AKA "destination charger"). So while my LEAF has a standard J1772 port, I also happen to have a quality NACS to J1772 adapter. So good idea to have one just in case, because I can't verify what type they use. Just a heads up it got my attention when the valet asked me if I had an adapter. Anyway, shout out to the valet staff. I am so sorry I forgot the name of the person who retrieved my car, he was great and when I dropped it off, Armando and Alec were super courteous and helpful as well. I realize valet companies are not part of the hotel, but they are often times your first interaction/impression, and these guys are top notch. One more disclaimer: overnight parking is quite expensive, but it was just a little more than my hotel would have charged me anyway. So while very convenient, this was not cheap.
