We did the Volcano Air Tour in July 2018. It was a two-hour tour which started in Kapalua and went around Maui and the Big Island, focusing on the volcano activity from the crater all the way to the sea. It was a life-changing experience, we got so close to the crater the helicopters must have been jealous of us-LOL! The pilot and copilot were super friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and informative. We had a great time, as they pointed out all the sites, making sure to circle back so folks on both sides of the plane could enjoy the view. We kept passing my phone back and forth between me and my wife, to get shots from both sides. We took hundreds of photos! And, we saw so many great sites! From mountains, rivers, and waterfalls to observatories and airports; from waterfalls and geothermal power plants to the lava river; and, the formation of new land in the sea, not to mention the active crater! It was spectacular. The per-person price was right around $500, which I consider cheap when I think about other tours we've taken at Mount St. Helens and the Grand Canyon. I would definitely recommend Mokulele Airlines' Volcano Tour to anyone visiting the state of Hawaii. You won't regret it.

Waterfalls so far away that you can't tell that they are waterfalls :-(

Took the volcano air tour on 6/2/18. I wish I had asked our pilots their names, so I could give them both the highest praise and thank you.

Kapalua Airport, where do I start. I have loved this place for all of my life, growing up with the…read moreMokulele Airlines and the 'Ohana by Hawaiian aircraft flying overhead after departing and arriving into this airport have been some of the best memories I have ever had. And I must say, although I love this airport more than most things in life, it does not cloud my judgement of the facility whatsoever. I first want to mention that this airport has changed a lot over the years, it used to be quite a bustling place with great connections to neighbor islands on several airlines. The facility was always wonderfully clean and efficient, and the services offered were plentiful, with a full TSA security screening station and the ability for passengers traveling onboard the Hawaiian Airlines service to clear TSA and check bags in Kapalua and then have them checked through to the final destination, with no need to recheck bags or go through security once you arrived in your connecting airport. There was even a snack bar and a car rental on airport property at one point. Never mind indoor restrooms and plenty of literature for tourists arriving looking for things to do. It was a great place. Then, the cuts began. The 'Ohana by Hawaiian service was wonderful, however was abruptly ended and subsequently permanently terminated in 2020, in part due to challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving Kapalua with no mainline airline service. Even Mokulele Airlines has ended many services out of the airport, such as to Kona, Kahului, Lana'i, and Moloka'i, leaving the twice daily flight to Honolulu as the only option for flying out of Kapalua. And now, that service is lacking. As the only service into Kapalua Airport, it runs quite inefficiently, sometimes flight cancellations run for weeks on end with no apparent reasons as to why. And, when flying with Mokulele, which is a wonderful company, you are unable to clear security or check bags to a final destination from Kapalua Airport, instead, you must go through security and check bags at your connecting airport. And now, thanks to the lack of service to the airport, much of it has been vacated. The absence of Hawaiian Airlines on the field has led to the closure of the popular TSA service that allowed passengers to clear security in Kapalua and be good for all of their connecting flights. And, even the snack bar is now gone, leaving no food options in the immediate vicinity of the airport. Even the rental car facility has left. And the only place you can go from this airport is now to Honolulu. And I do want to clarify, none of these cuts are the airports fault, which is why I still rate it five stars. I simply include the history to demonstrate why things are the way they are today. The facility is wonderfully clean, kept up from the marvelous maintenance team. And the staff are all very friendly, always willing to chat or just pass a smile on. It is truly a magical place. And, the airport continues to be of major importance to the West Maui communities, providing an essential cargo hub into the west side, with FedEx Feeder and FedEx Express operating flights into the airport, and serving as a substantial connecting point for the onward ground connections. Kapalua Airport is a wonderful airport, and I am confident that they will find a way to add more services and return it to its former glory once again. Aloha a hui hou, Kapalua Airport.

Food and drink were provided which was better than expected and plenty of it, along with plenty of bathroom breaks. The van was comfortable and limited to 8 guests and we had a good group. We were so glad we didn't drive it ourselves because Tom showed us sooooooo many things we would have driven right by. If you're not sure about taking the tour or driving yourself...do yourself a favor and take the tour and enjoy the Road to Hana!!!

In response to the owners lies - (Original reviews in…read morephotos. Yelp said I reached my character limit capacity. Added more photos for our proof). There was no one else on the tour except one couple, whom we had no issues with. The 7 people on the bus was my family of 5 and one couple. 1. There was a hiccup in your booking system, you allowed us to book a tour because you did not close your online reservation window. If you were sold out why did the website allow us to make a reservation? Hence the "hiccup". After we booked the tour, we did move a flight around so this person could make the tour that we had a confirmation email for. Very unprofessional to email the next morning saying you were sold out AFTER we made the booking. Yes we did book late but if you were sold out you shouldn't have allowed us to make the booking plain and simple. We called multiple times because we were asking about pick up arrangements and were told to keep calling back to see when/if the tour filled up, because only then would they be able to tell us what pick up rotation we would be in. I wanted to know what hotel would be the first pick up, etc. I didn't care that our two parties were not on the same bus, which was why I didn't mention it in the booking. 2. Since you claim to have the proof that he wasnt speeding, why dont you show it? It absolutely does corroborate with the Google maps picture. I did move the camera to get a video of how bumpy the bus was DUE TO HOW FAST THE DRIVER WAS SPEEDING! But I'll include another video straight ahead where you can see how fast he flies past the mountain. As for your lies, you need to come up with better ones. I asked for a Spanish translator due to the fact only ONE person in our party spoke Spanish. The fact that you guys said we were speaking Spanish all day is hilarious because NO ONE IN OUR PARTY SPEAKS SPANISH except my mother in law, who didn't speak the whole trip. Let's add more proof that you guys are racist - when the driver picked us up II asked about the Spanish ear piece translator before my mother in law was there. The driver said no, he said I speak a little Spanish so I will do my best to speak to help you guys out. 5 minutes later he came up to my husband and started speaking Spanish. My husband told the driver he speaks ENGLISH. Louie said oh you were quiet miguel so i figured you were the spanish speaker. we were asking about translation for my mother in law. I'll also add he made multiple claims about how Latinas were "so violent" and people had to watch out for us. let's add to the review that not only are you guys liars, you are racist liars. Your tour driver is a liar, we were all sleeping on the drive back due to how sick/tired we were. Your tour driver is clearly lying to cover his mistakes. 3. We didn't ask the tour driver for ONE illegal thing AT ALL. Due to the fact he was an arrested convict (which you can find proof of by googling it) he made illegal stops on his own! He even mentioned how the rangers loved him and when HE chose to make the illegal stop in front of the waterfalls, the ranger allowed it bc they told him make it quick. We appreciate the opportunity but never asked him for one illegal stop. 4. I never said we missed anything, I said I couldn't help but wonder if we missed something. Since you want to be so detailed, we actually DID miss Ohe'o Gulch / Seven Sacred Pools (D) Charles Lindbergh's Grave / Palapala Hoomau Church Kipahulu scenic ocean views, St. Joseph Church Kaupo Ranchlands / Haleakala backside views / Maui's Last Lava Flows (D) Maui's Upcountry / Kula (S) 6. The entire tour WAS my family. Let me also add one thing I forgot to the review someone in your company gave our tour guide my number and he texted me twice asking me for his tip which was EXTREMELY unprofessional. This is an extreme safety violation. He unprofessionally texted me "This ***** Just making sure I did venmo right.. If sent tip, I have not recieved..." at 7:27pm. And "If you could let me know.." at 7:56pm. For my safety, I should NEVER have received text asking about a TIP! Even if he was wondering about the tip because he wasn't used to electronics, you still should never text someones personal cell phone number. Since he did mention multiple times that he was a liability I was scared he was going to show up to our hotel since he knew my number, hotel location, etc. Where is the response to the bulk of my review??? Do you have an explanation for how we know all this information about him being fired from his last tour job? How the current owner was only allowing him to drive as a fill in driver as a favor? Why was he a liability? Bc he speeds and risks the lives of passengers? In one of my videos I do have him talking about the story of how his dad gave him money and guns to illegally transport. As I have over 500 videos from this tour, you guys are lucky I don't want to go through and find the hard proof I have. Where is your hard proof?

The female half was a pilot. While talking she recommended to us that we should take a sunset flight over Maui with her old boss at Maui Plane Rides. She said it was truly a life changing experience. Well, that was enough for us, we booked one and embarked on our journey a few days later. We arrived to the small airport and met our pilot, Eric was his name maybe? He was originally from New York and was a very friendly fellow. He did his pre flight checks and we loaded into the plane and away we went. The pilot flew us all over the island and he was a very informative with his knowledge of the island and local history. The flight path he took was truly EPIC! He let my wife fly the plane for about 5 minutes, which was super cool of him. The flight was absolutely a must do if you have the opportunity and the funds. You will never see a sunset quite like the sunset over Maui from a plane. It was the most beautiful sunset ever. And I have seen many sunsets in many locales. The experience was top notch, the pilot was A+++++ and the night was truly incredible as our newly met Colorado friends stated it would be. While it was raining that day, the pilot only called beforehand to say we'd get wet walking from the car to the plane. He never mentioned that we would miss half of the advertised sights. The pilot then claimed he had warned us that weather would prevent us from seeing several locations, which simply isn't true. I understand that weather can affect flights, but customers should be clearly informed when major parts of the advertised experience won't be delivered. Poor communication and misleading expectations made this a frustrating experience.

We were also situated at the Moana building which was definitely the best spot at the hotel because you get the full view of Black Rock and the ocean rather than the resort grounds. Highly recommend getting a room in that section. Additionally, they gave us champagne, chocolates, and a personalized card for our anniversary! The lobby had such amazing views. We also loved the pool. Lots of pool seats available unlike other hotels. I guess it helps that it's at the end of the strip so you don't really have as much crowds coming through. We grabbed some snorkel gear to explore Black Rock and it was full of marine life. What a beautiful spot (I grew up on an island myself and will tell you it's a legit snorkeling experience). The food and beverage options were limited. Breakfast was pretty pricey so we decided to go elsewhere to try a little bit of everything for meals which we were planning to do anyway. We did get food at the pool bar - karaage chicken and fries were so good! We went back for the fries and got a fruit smoothie. One downside is that since the Moana building was at the end of the property so we had to take several elevator rides through the hotel just to get to the lobby. That was fine since it encouraged us to get our steps in but could be frustrating. All in all a wonderful experience!

It sits on a quieter stretch of Ka'anapali Beach, so it never feels as crowded as some of the neighboring resorts. It is also right next to Black Rock, which means you can skip paying for a snorkeling tour and simply walk over yourself. We snorkeled there three times and saw sea turtles every single time. If you are lucky enough to get upgraded to an ocean view room, the sunsets are absolutely stunning and worth looking forward to every evening. The downsides are hard to ignore. The rooms are definitely dated, although they were very clean. The restaurants on site are expensive and the food was average at best. Breakfast costs nearly $50 per person, and the buffet was nothing special. For what the resort charges, I expected a much better dining experience. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. One tip: reserve your poolside cabana online before you arrive because they often sell out. If you can book this property using points (good redemption of course), I think it is worth it. If you are paying cash, I believe there are better values elsewhere in Maui. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but it did not live up to its price tag.
