I'm giving this review to let others know that do not just contact one company when looking for a company to treat mold and to share my experience with Moldman Chicago. I called this company to look at the rotten wood in our crawlspace. An estimator came and said there was no mold. I also sent pictures of discoloration on some floor joists. The estimator said there was no mold. Good thing I contacted Kingdom Restoration. Kingdom Restoration said that some things were moldy and others don't have mold. The problem was getting worse before Kingdom Restoration came to treat the mold and did a great job. read more

Mold is never something you want to discover, particularly in the "new" 100 year old 2-flat you've purchased. We had actual black mold growing in the basement (due to a leaking roof, leaking/malfunctioning boiler furnace, and old/leaking pipes), and airborne mold (a type that can cause serious respiratory issues) throughout the top two floors. We first contracted Miguel and his team to make the top two floors safe, and were extremely impressed with his professionalism, thoroughness, and price. Also, Miguel is a very calm person by nature, which appealed to me because my husband gets anxious easily, and I'm very type A, so working with him helped us not get too up in our heads. Anyway, when we had finally addressed all of the leaks (new roof, new furnace, new pipes) and were ready to demo and remediate our basement, I contacted Miguel again - he was my top choice to do the job. We settled on an extremely reasonable price, and he was able to quickly schedule us in for a week of work. Unfortunately, the Friday before the Monday he and his team were set to begin the demo, I came down with COVID for the second time. I'm double vaxxed and boosted, but despite this got pretty sick and was feverish and out of it for days while I isolated. During this time, my husband tested negative so he took over being point person for the demo. Now, I'd discussed what would be demo'ed extensively with him before the project began, including doing walkthroughs, but because I was in charge, our conversations went to passive brain. *Most* of his calls were what we'd decided on, but apparently he became squeamish about removing the *extremely* water damaged wooden slats that were stapled to the wall. These things were all half rotted away from water damage, and looked like something you'd see in a slasher flick, but apparently my partner was nervous that removing them would damage the brick they were stapled to, despite our agreeing to remove them. He didn't tell me this, or that he'd told the demo team to leave them, so when the remediation team came in post demo and told me that the slats really needed to be removed for our safety (lest mold regrow behind the walls once we put up drywall), I was understandably confused. At this point, Miguel was called in and he personally walked the basement with me to explain why we should demo the rest of the wood. He was also very polite and sensitive when discussing the direction my partner had given the team. Guys, it is no easy thing to be stuck in the middle of a marital miscommunication, but *every single person* on Miguel's team handled it with finesse. I was so impressed, especially since many contractors out there would get direction like my husband gave, shrug, and do what they were told, however dangerous it was. The consequences of our "customer is always right" mentality. Not Miguel and his team - they *always* advocated for our safety, explaining clearly and thoroughly why - even when it looked like we didn't care like they did. In the end, because of this snafu, the demo and remediation continued 3 days into the following week. Despite the fact that this clearly messed with their schedule, Miguel, Victor, and the rest of the team took care of us, and amazingly did not charge us any extra. Our basement is beautiful and clean now and ready for a rebuild. If Moldman offered reconstruction services, I would use them in a heartbeat. I was devastated to learn I had a mold issue in my newly finished basement. It resulted from a hidden leak that had gone on for months and was only discovered when I spotted mold on a wall that seemed to be rapidly spreading. I received bids from several remediation companies and decided to go with Moldman primarily due to its long-term warranty and its very fair pricing. Even better the ten-year warranty is also transferrable which was a concern since I plan on selling the house in the near future. I'd had an outside testing service conduct a study prior to the work beginning and again when it was completed. Initially, there were several types of molds found that had spread throughout the majority of the basement. The work began when scheduled and the guys worked from the moment they arrived until they left. I was pleased when each day the area was cleaned and the debris was removed. The rebuild (installing new drywall etc) was very professional to the extent that I tried to hire them to complete the rehab I was doing on the property. Unfortunately the company only does remediation but the result I definitely would have hired them to finish the rest of the house. The report upon retesting found a few spores in one area that it indicated is a common occurrence but should be removed. I notified Miguel (my contact person whom was excellent) about the finding and he immediately returned to clear any remaining spores. Another test was done which showed everything to be fine leaving me a very happy camper. I would heartily recommend Moldman for any remediation effort and if you use them you won't be sorry. read more

I had a leak in my washing machine that I discovered late, followed by a mildly musty smell in my condo. I repaired the washing machine and called Moldman to come out and do an assessment to be cautious -- don't want a mold problem to get out of hand. They basically said they thought I was good. Wall was dry, didn't detect any mold themselves, and said doing a test in his opinion would be a waste of money. Appreciate the honesty. Musty smell has subsided anyway and I have some peace of mind. Miguel did a thorough assessment of our attic and bedroom ceilings, patiently answered all my questions and wrote up a very detailed invoice. The technicians, Raul and Shaun, were courteous, efficient and extremely neat. They exceeded my expectations for how much of the work would be completed the first day. Raul returned the next day to complete the drywall work/painting. He is highly skilled and the ceilings look beautiful. I'm long overdue in writing this, but think they deserve a review. I needed work done quickly and Victor was very responsive during the quote process, which was not the case with many other companies. He was also very knowledgable about what works and what doesn't. The only thing I'd have liked better is for the plastic containment to have been sealed more securely, as some of it came loose during the remediation. Granted, I may be overly paranoid regarding mold, I think that more precautions are always better when it comes to residential.
