So disappointed in this place. Food was actually pretty good but drinks were ok and the service was bad. The bar downstairs was horrible. My gf was at the bar for 30 minutes and she was ignored by all the bartenders.. We are American/mexcican so idk if that's the reason but they were serving their friends and ignoring us. We left after 25 minutes waiting for the bartenders to acknowledge us. If French people think all Americans are the same that's why ever thinks the French are rude and i didn't think that. Really cool concept for a bar and a cool spot to bring a group/friends visiting from out of town. How often do you find fish tanks lining the whole place!? Definitely saw Dory and Nemo in some of the tanks. If that's not enough they have a surprising back area and tables out front if you can't find one indoors. Dimly lit but the tanks light up the whole place. Bar is right at the center and drinks and they have standard well mixes, beers on tap, and even some specialty drinks. Tried the bees knees here and it wasn't the best I ever had but OK if you want something on the sweeter side. I also noticed they had food as well like pizzas and bites which looked pretty tasty, but we didn't get any this time around. People were ordering things though which is always good to have the option to munch on things while enjoying your drinks! read more

We stopped into this bar after spending a bit of time at another bar a few doors down. It was a Thursday night and things on Mississippi were pretty mellow, as was the vibe at Moloko. They were playing some good music and the lighting from the fish tank set a nice mood. I ordered a drink with lavender infused alcohol and an ice cube with edible flower inside. Generally, I love anything, food or drink, with a hint or taste of lavender. This one, though, was not great. It tasted a bit like medicine and the alcohol was a bit overwhelming. Happy hour every day from open-6pm is genius. I ordered the HH margarita and it was so good. They infuse their own alcohols here and also use fresh lime/lemon juice which makes such a difference! You can also get tajin instead of salt on the rim. Would definitely go back to grab a $4 margarita pizza with the margaritas next time. There's a great outdoor seating area in the back and inside is super cool cause there is a fish tank on almost every table. Also there's a cute dog ruby that loves to hang around for pets. read more

I like this place for a few reasons; the drink specials are good, it's dark and cool in the inside, and they have an NES and SNES mini. I've spent a few evenings drinking happy hour beers and playing Mike Tyson's Punch Out (Or, actually, Punch Out!, I think the NES mini version is not it's namesake). I usually come earlier in the evening so I don't have to fight the crowds, as this is a major draw for the bar. Food here is simple, it's panini(s) and several sides; I haven't tried it and have no interest in it, since there are lots of great food options on Mississippi. There is also a great smoking patio that's great to hang out in if that's your thing. I also got around to trying a favorite beverage of mine; dry gin martini, dirty, served up and it was awesome. The craftsmanship put into their beverages is top notch, and the service was great. It's one of the few places in Portland that will serve a martini in an authentic martini glass, not a champagne coupe like many places will. Did I mention that they have several large saltwater fish tanks throughout the bar? It's pretty cool, and there's a nice variety of fish and coral to look at. I'd say this is my favorite bar on Mississippi, especially if cocktails are your thing. read more

I really want to like this place for so many reasons - the cool interior space (who doesn't love fish tanks?!), great drinks, good music...I just can't like this place because the service staff are SUCH dicks. Now, normally I wouldn't rate a place low just on service...I'll consider the whole package. But man, when the service staff is this mean (and so consistently) I have to weigh it more heavily. I hadn't been here in years because I had a bartender refuse to serve me because I was "too drunk" (I hadn't even had a drink yet and was totally caught off guard by this). I finally came back and was at first pleasantly surprised thinking I was surprised it had been so long since I'd given this place another shot. Surely after so many years we'd have different staff? Nicer staff? First thing that happened was a girl at the bar (whom I didn't know) was arguing with the bartender because she had been trying to get served and outright ignored. Normally I'll always side with the bartender on these things but since I'd been in a spot like that before, I thought it was weird. I waited at the bar for my second drink for about 20 minutes and was ignored time after time again. I finally moved toward the middle of the bar, had a bartender look me square in the eye, and then above me to serve the dude behind me. I was like "do you mind if I order first? Ive been waiting a while." The bartender then glared at me HEAVILY and asked with huge annoyance what I wanted. I ordered an IPA in which she poured and then slammed down in front of me with a glare. I went in with my boyfriend and I watched the person serving food, wipe his hands on his pants, an then turned around and grabbed the pizza with no gloves and didnt wash his hands, and he served someone their food. That is disgusting. They need better hygiene practices in that place. read more

I like this place. It's a great place to hang out when some of the other bars are much too crowded. There are some cool looking fish tanks inside and many times a DJ spinning some chill beats. They have a cozy little patio out back which tends to be pretty quiet. Maybe a good place to do some catching up with an old friend. As far as drinks go they have a nice selection. Something for everyone i'd imagine. Hard cider, beer, and a huge selection of fancy cocktails. Last night I tried some of the food and was pleased with what I got. The grilled cheese was awesome and also tried the smoked salmon and cheese plate. Salmon was good, maybe could have been a bit better. All and all a solid bar. read more

My friend and I came in last night around 7. It wasn't super busy so we decided to sit at the bar. We waited a decent amount of time before the bartender decided to even acknowledge us, just so we could ask for some menus. When we finally were able to order I could barely get our drink orders out before he was walking away and I had to quickly order the pizza we were getting too before he was completely walking away from us. Typically I'm used to bars asking us if we would like to be on the same tab or keep a tab open, but if he hadn't asked that directly I would've let him know. But I never got the chance to. The bartender was being friendly and talking and laughing with everyone else at the bar but my friend and I were hardly acknowledged. As he finished each drink he basically was just dropping them down in front of us and rushing away and then did the same thing with the little device to pay. Both of our orders were on the tab so I decided I would just pay for it and my friend would get the next drinks. I had already come into the bar with the intention of tipping in cash so for the transaction on my card I put no tip. If the bartender had slowed down once to give us some amount of attention or conversation or anything I would've been able to hand him a cash tip, but that didn't happen. Unfortunately instead, the bartender decided to pick up the pay device, see that I hadn't tipped on it, and then as he was walking away once again instead of talking to us directly, loudly and sarcastically announce in front of everyone at the bar "thanks for the tip!". Even with the minimal interaction, I always make it a point to tip. I understand having bad days and not being in the mood to talk or be friendly, but the bartender had been friendly with everyone else sitting there and had never even given us the chance to have a good interaction with him. Overall I was just very confused wondering if there was something we had said or done that had upset him but the only interaction we really had was simply us stating our order? I've been racking my brain to try to figure out what we could've done to upset him in the first place before even getting to the tip issue but I've never had a situation like this and I can't think of anything we could've done as we were polite and very much just staying to ourselves. After this happened, we felt very uncomfortable and decided we would just go elsewhere for more drinks. We got our pizza from the person making them in the back who was very kind. We asked them for to go boxes because we were uncomfortable just sitting there to eat our food. They were super sweet to us even in just those short interactions and it was so relieving after the bad experience with the bartender. We actually ended up walking back to where they were and giving them the cash tip that was intended for the bartender and thanking them for being so kind because my anxiety was so high after the interaction with the bartender that their kindness was very needed and appreciated. Night after night, animals are subjected to loud noise, vibrations, and flash photos. Animals can become extremely agitated, even attacking one another out of frustration, when they have no escape. Experts have stated that loud environmental noise from humans can alter animal behavior, mask important natural sounds on which they depend, and even physically injure them. There's nothing fun or entertaining about watching fish circle tanks that are a tiny fraction of their natural habitat. Fish do not belong inside a noisy bar. read more

This is a nice looking bar with seating out front and on their back patio. However, they have a DJ and the music is WAY too loud. Like ridiculously loud. Makes sense why no one is sitting inside. I've never had a bad experience here. The back patio is so romantic. A lot of very friendly people come here. And the people that work here are even cooler. Out of all the bars in Portland, I would say that this place has the best music. The cocktails are so good. That Secret Garden cocktail is my favorite cocktail of all time. The fish tanks filled with all of the beautiful living things is the best part. You can literally just come to sit and stare at everything swaying around in the water.
