I honestly liked this place a lot. My husband, brother and I came here with a Groupon. The deal was $9 for "$15" - which was really two combo meals (of your choice) and a drink. With the Groupon, it honestly was a fantastic deal. With the combo meal you get your choice of a main, a salad, and a soup, and then our drinks were included as well. For our mains I had a Chicken Torta - which was fantastic and very filling, and my husband had Two Original Sopes - which were much less filling. We had a Corn Chowder and the Pozole as our soups. The Corn Chowder was not too creamy, but sweet, and the Pozole had a slight kick to it, which was pleasant on a colder day. Everything we had was very good. I wish it was all a little spicier, but nonetheless it was delightful. I especially enjoyed the fact that the flavor profile was so different from your run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurant. Everything here (that we had) seemed so much lighter and healthier. The cashier we had was very nice, and I enjoyed the open kitchen. The restaurant is small, but very bright and clean. I will definitely be back again - especially if there is a Groupon. I know that they've had a Yelp deal for awhile now, as well as the fact that they use Belly there. Also! If you check in with Yelp you get FREE Elotes! Which is a Mexican style corn dish. It was the first time that any of us had tried Elotes before, and honestly it won't be the last. This place made my day! We just happened to search for vegan food on our drive back into Chicago, this spot popped and I'm so glad we stopped. We got take out and everything we ate was scrumptious. Located near my job, I've been dying to try this place since I've searched on Yelp. So glad I found this place! THe best part is that there's a yelp deal and check-in offer. It seems the owners are very active on yelp as well Using the yelp deal, I decided to try a variety of things Empanadas-wow. huge and delicious! It is a little on the greasy side once you break in to them but the empanadas were fried and seasoned perfectly. Sweet Empanada- I'm not a big fan of fruity-pies but if you enjoy fruit(apple,strawberry,etc) pies then can't miss this Epazote and jalapeno quesadilla- "interesting" is the word I would use since I've never tasted an epazote. It was bitter and just "ok" to me. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the foods I really went there to try which are the tamales and jibarito. I think the staff was new because I'm pretty sure I placed these orders and repeated myself several times but when I looked at my bag when I got to work none of them were in there :( .. next time, must check receipt before leaving. We moved to Libertyville recently, and this has become our go-to for Mexican food. I'm a vegetarian, and my husband isn't, but we love that there are options for the both of us here! While I'm not vegan, I can easily doctor up any of their vegan options with regular cheese and sour cream at home. I've been vegan for 5 years now, and with my brother-in-law visiting, we decided to "showcase" some vegan food, since he's in the Chicagoland for the 1st time ever. We ordered over $60 worth of food + tip (photo 3). I arrived and the food still wasn't ready 15 mins after the time we were given. The cashier didn't say anything other than, "do you want me to cancel your order?" I drove 30 mins to get there, so I went ahead and waited. After getting home, I opened up the container and here is their rendition of a $7 quesadilla. The salsa verde was watery and FLAVORLESS. This is my 5th time eating here, and my 3rd not-so-great experience. I will NEVER eat here again. My brother-in-law said his mushroom tacos were under-seasoned and dry. I was surprised by how limited the menu was at Momcorn, though don't let the size of the menu dissuade you from exploring it. I also expected a different interior. It had more of a fast food feel than I expected - laminate booths, for example. That doesn't make it bad; just different than what we anticipated walking in. The servers were quick to greet us and extremely friendly throughout the entire meal. I have to admit some bias here -- when I saw there were two teenage girls working, I expected disaster. I am pleased to admit that I was wrong. They were attentive and helpful. They could use a bit more training on the menu -- when asked to describe the pozole, one described it as broth with some beans in it. That was a disservice to what it really is -- a flavorful almost-stew. Glad my husband ordered it anyway! I had the taco plate with three chicken tacos. I was asked if I wanted them authentic style or American. I took a gamble that authentic style would involve cilantro and onions and was happy with that choice. I didn't ask about American style, though I would guess it involves cheese and tomatoes. The chicken was flavorful, the corn tortillas were warm, and the cilantro was fresh. I skipped the rice and beans, but my husband devoured them off of my plate so they must have been good. He said the rice was a little sweet, likely from the addition of corn. He had a combo with two tamales, the aforementioned pozole, and salad. He loved the tamales and doused them in green chile sauce. As far as price, I'm not sure you can beat it. Ordered delivery. Got the fried plantains, quesadilla with chicken, and a torta filled with al pastor. Delivery was pretty quick; about 40 minutes. Arrived in a newer van with Momcorn livery. Good advertisement. Before I say anything, my only concern was the portion size for the plantains and the quesadilla. The portions were not awful for the dollar amount, but the staple Mexican restaurant makes you think that the dollar is a lot stronger than it actually is. The plantains were delicious. Not too greasy. Mildly sweet. A bit short, maybe one or two more slices would be favorable. The quesadilla was made with a maize tortilla and was maybe the size of a taco: think about a tortilla about 6 inches in diameter. My gripe besides the portion was just that it was a bit too bland. Served with a side salad with salted cheese. Very good. A green sauce was served alongside. A little spicy, with good flavor and smooth consistency. Not a bad take on salsa verde. Less cilantro than I'm used to. A bit mild for me but that's not of much concern. The torta, I felt I got my money's worth. Order a torta at any other Mexican place and expect a heaping pound to two pounds of sandwich. This was still a decent sandwich, maybe just short of a pound, and had good flavor with less of the characteristic grease. The al pastor was nicely seasoned and the vegetable toppings were fresh. Best homemade mexican food in the area. Everytime I am visiting friend in the area I come here. I have been here several times and everytime I tried something different on the menu and always had great experience. They do make it all from scratch. Quality is apparent in the food. Taste is out of the world. This time I tried 4 different items. Cheese quesadilla, chicken flauta, chicken tamale and pumpkin tamale. Pumpkin tamale was special of the day. I liked their Flauta the best as everything else is as good too. They also do a great fried plantains dish as well. Everything is great. Ive sampled little of almost everything on the menu not the fish or pork related ones though! They do offer specials as well. Everyone who works in that restaurant is super nice and very welcoming. You can view the kitchen and see what the cook is doing at anytime. This place is great for gluten-free and they offer tons vegetarian options as well keeping everyone inclue meat lovers happy. We decided to try this place last night because a friend mentioned their jibaritos were good. The only other place I know makes great ones is all the way in the city. And she did not disappoint. It's a cute little restaurant. We ordered at the counter to go and the staff was really nice. We got the steak jibarito and the breaded steak torta. The torta was your average torta with good flavor, nothing out of the ordinary. The Jibarito was reallyyyyy good!!! The steak had great flavor and texture it wasn't too chewy like a lot of other places. They also use sweet plantain instead of the other fried one which was a pleasant surprise. I recently tried this place and was impressed. My family sent me back the next day for more so- overwhelming success in their eyes too. I don't eat pork or beef so my options for Mexican food can be extremely limited if I'm going someplace more authentic. I loved that they had vegan and vegetarian options and that the staff and cooks were very friendly and offered me some suggestions my first visit there. My food didn't take any longer than I'd expect anywhere else and if my choices are fresh and I wait a couple extra minutes or microwaved and I have it in a second, I'll take the former. I was sad they didn't have the rajas tamales (which are my absolute favorite) but their other vegetarian tamale option was awesome. Second time around I tried their sweet tamales, which were great. The pineapple actually tasted like pineapple and not some overly sweet gunk. Definitely worth trying out! read more

While staying at Great Wolf Lodge we were looking for something that was delicious and had vegan options, we hit the jackpot! The food was delicious and authentic. The variety of food options made everyone happy. We had the vegan burritos , chimichangas, and quesadillas. They were all outstanding! We also got the large guacamole with chips and a strawberry empanada. Both were very good, but I was a bit surprised by the price of the guac and chips - $8. I am unfamiliar with area. So, for dinner I opened up Yelp and came across this absolute gem. The menu is 1/2 vegan. Although everything looked delicious, I'm not vegan so I turned the menu around and was left with equally sounding delicious food. I didn't know what to order. I decided on chips and guac, red pozole soup, cactus taco, chicken Flauta, and desert - blueberry empandas. To say that each and every dish was bountiful of flavor is an understatement. I have to say - by far - this is the BEST MEXICAN FOOD I'D EVER HAD! Everything is homemade!!! The Pozole is absolutely to die for. The chips were hot and the guacamole was freshly made. It was the frst time I had cactus and loved it. The chicken flauta was full of flavor. Last - dessert. I was so stuffed, but I couldn't pass up a freshly made dessert. It did not disappoint at all. Needless to say - if I could give this place 100 stars, I would. Not only was it absolutely delicious, the cost kicked it over the top. For all I ordered - it only cost $23!!!!! The staff was friendly at first, but didn't offer much insight on the menu even though we mentioned numerous times that we had never been there before. After the waitress knocked my utensils on me & she blamed me for it, I asked if the Jibarito was "sweet" and was told no. That it was "something people ordered". Aside from the fact that I didn't understand exactly what that meant, it was sweet. Sweet and so spicy that I took one bite and couldn't finish it. I told them it was way to spicy for me and the waitress looked at me and told me "aw, that's too bad." Seriously. I LOVE trying new places. I also LOVE Mexican cuisine. I even appreciate the whole gluten-free, vegan deal too, but my first visit: 1.) Food was not great 2.) My husband and I were visiting from California and were having a hard time finding vegan food. I found Momcorn on yelp and OMG I am so happy we did! The owner, a young man, took our order from our car, due to Covid we could not enter the restaurant. He was so friendly and answered all of the questions that we had. We ordered 2 tortas, 4 "asada" tacos, two veggie tamales and they gave us an extra strawberry tamale! To say we were satisfied is an understatement. The food was phenomenal! I wish they were based out in Cali!! We wanted to go back, but didn't have the time. If we're ever in the area again we will for sure go straight to Momcorn!! My husband and I have lived in the Gurnee area for almost 6 years and Momcorn has become one of our favorite go-to restaurants. The food is delicious and it's one of the only places around here that you can get street corn (yum!). I definitely recommend that you try it!! The only reason that I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the issues we have experienced with online ordering. Unfortunately, Momcorn has lost our business many times because of this issue. Over the years, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up choosing another restaurant about 20 times because of this issue. Most of the time, we can't even place an online order through Grubhub for pickup because it won't allow it (even at 5pm on a weekday). And just tonight, we tried to order online and, for whatever reason, the only menu options available on Grubhub were from the vegan/vegetarian options on the menu. It's as if the rest of the menu disappeared so, unfortunately, we will be eating elsewhere tonight. While I know that I could just as easily order by phone, our order is often very complicated and has many items and, after a long day at work, I often don't have it in me to explain our order over the phone. I truly hope the online ordering issues can be figured out because you would not only consistently get our business, but I imagine you'd probably get more business from others in the area as well. This place is so good! I was visiting my sister's family from NYC and we came to Momcorn because of their vegan options. What makes it so outstanding is that the vegan menu was obviously crafted with care. I often go to restaurants and the vegan option isn't actually anything anyone would want to eat. I have gone to Mexican restaurants where the burrito was filled with squash and carrots....At Momcorn their menu is filled with the exact ingredients I would want to eat at a Mexican restaurant.
