21 awesome panels that generate 0 kWh in the current configuration, thanks to Momentum
    Andrew U.

Initially, I loved Momentum. They started in my area (Metuchen, NJ). Signed the agreement with them in Nov 2019. Project management was aggressive, which is good. They got the design, permitting, and installation done quickly. My 21-panel, 6.6 kW, Hanwha Q-cell array went live Feb 2020 and worked beautifully for years, no problem. It was sized perfectly, producing exactly the right amount of power, so with PSEG net metering, my consumption versus production was nearly perfect. I was thrilled and recommended Momentum to everyone. The problems started in 2024 when I embarked on a remodel that required demolishing the top floor and re-building the roof with a new geometry. Basically, The panels had to be removed/reinstalled on a different roof. I owned the panels; they were paid off by now. I also wanted to purchase more panels for my new power-hungry devices, e.g. replacing gas with electric heat pumps for HVAC. I reached out to Momentum in Mar 2024, ahead of the remodel. Sent the architect's drawings and asked if these could be used to front-load the design of the array on the new roof or get purchasing of new panels going. Signed the agreement to remove/reinstall the panels on 2024-04-08. Was charged $4,634 despite being verbally promised back in 2019 that a one-time reinstallation would be free. The agreement mentioned nothing about redesign or additional panels, despite multiple attempts by me (via email and calls) to convey that information to Momentum. It seemed like everything I sent them went into a black hole, a major red flag against their CRM. This happened repeatedly. I also repeatedly requested Momentum to coordinate directly with the contractor or the architect regarding the new roof (measurements, technical details), but they did not. The panel removal was scheduled for 2024-04-17, well ahead of the demolition of my old roof in June 2024, which is just about the only thing that went well with this project. The techs who showed up were helpful and professional. On 2024-07-06, I followed up because the new roof was projected to be complete around 2024-08-01, so I wanted to schedule an install date. I was disappointed to see that no progress was made on any sales of new panels to me or any design. During the ~3 months since removal, there were zero attempts by Momentum to reach me. I was asked to re-send the same info I previously sent (past 12 months of power bills, drawings, etc.). These same requests would happen at least a couple more times, despite me trying to get ahead of the problem since early 2024. On 2024-11-22, a tech showed up to take measurements of my roof. The tech was awesome and helpful and professional. He reinvigorated my faith in the company. Alas, once again, that info went into a black hole. The project manager -- who, in her defense, tried her best to be helpful -- eventually reached the conclusion that reinstalling existing panels AND adding on new panels was too complicated, so we removed adding new panels out of the scope of the project. It seemed that a new case ID was created for this. At this point, I would have been happy to just get the existing panels energized again. Between Mar 2024 and now, I regularly followed up with Momentum about the status of my project. I was hardly ever given useful, actionable information. As of 2025-08-14 (18 months since sending the drawings, 16 months since signing the contract, 12 months since the new roof was ready to go, and 8-9 months since Momentum measured the new roof), nothing has moved forward. I was promised at least 4 times by various people that someone from the Roofing Department or Design Department would call me directly with a status update. No one ever reached out to me. These departments do not have a customer-facing side, so I get the feeling that someone contacting me was some sort of special request. I paid the final installment on the $4.6K on 2024-10-14. I am now waiting for new design drawings for reinstalling the array. At no point was any ETA provided for this, although I asked repeatedly. For almost 9 months since the measurements, nothing has happened, with no visibility into the status. So, I paid $4.6K for a service that wasn't done, and I'm losing $300/month to power bills. I have no ETA and no faith that anyone will contact me, other than sales, who keep wanting me to refer other customers to them for $500. And sales is the one department who HASN'T been engaged on my project. My panels are still sitting under a tarp in my backyard, producing 0 kWh (see pic). My conclusion is that Momentum is a company staffed by people who are trying to do their best, but the system is set up for them to fail. Looking at their review trends, my read is that something about the company broke in 2021 and their customer-facing employees have no way around it. I have no faith that their CRM or inter-departmental communication are working.

This is the agreement to remove and replace solar panels signed by #RichardKing of #momentumsolar
    Sandi C.

They are fraudulent in both their roofing and solar departments. We had an agreement to remove panels and replace some could do the roof replacement. They refuse to honor this agreement. They are a ripoff! DO NOT USE THEM YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF!

Among other services, they vet solar installers each year and Exact Solar was consistently one of the best. I was already aware of Exact Solar because they are listed in several national industry groups. Contracting with Exact Solar seemed a logical choice for installing a 30 panel, 9.9 kWp system on our garage roof. I reviewed my emails with Exact Solar co-owners Mark and Dara, over the months during the lead-up to the 2019 installation, and saw a long list of my questions and their answers. They always responded to my many questions promptly and accurately. Dara put together estimates of the system's output, the point at which the system would pay for its own installation (11 years). Any questions I had that had to do with system performance or the National Electrical Code went to Mark or to Vlad, a master electrician who designs each of the systems and is operations manager. Installation of a solar array is an impressive series of steps. Early on, Jackson, a technician, came out with a device to measure sun and shade on the garage roof. He determined that a black walnut tree would interfere substantially with system performance. After I had the tree removed Jackson came back and re-measured the surroundings for a go-ahead. Jackson showed me how his instruments can infer the extent of sunlight every day of the year based on a single day's several measurements. His measurements provide the basis of Dara's long-term cost and payback estimates. Exact Solar presently has two installer teams, both reporting to Vlad. My sense is that management and the installers respect each other and work well together. My team was headed by Nick who is also outstanding to work with. He, along with Jeremy, a crew member, always "did the right thing". Like running a very long power cable from my detached garage to the house. Running a very long cable means fewer wire-nut connections, and less chance of failure over time. But it's cheaper and easier to link together shorter, leftover lengths of cable. When they were installing exterior conduit, Nick would confer with me where to put them so they'd be less noticeable. If Nick had any question about the system's design, he'd call Vlad without hesitation. Vlad is a natural teacher, soft spoken, thoughtful and expert. Exact Solar has a culture of safety. Much of the time crews are on roofs and ladders, inherently dangerous places to work, and keeping workers safe is where everything starts at Exact Solar. The crew worked carefully, methodically, and cooperatively, without rushing. For Mark, Dara, Jackson, Vlad, Nick and Jeremy, bringing solar power to our communities is a passion, a mission in life, and a commitment to a viable future and not simply a business. If I had a chance to do this install over again, I would not change a thing. The system works perfectly, the design was correct, and the install was skilled and careful and oddly enough, it's fun to monitor it. I feel I have, with Exact Solar's help, contributed to the sustainability of our community.

They installed the panels, but it does not seem sound. Reviewing my bills, I am not saving any money. I called momentum to discuss the false advertising and their not living up to my expectations, and they weren't able to do anything or say anything of value. I was interested in getting central air, but was told that my solar panels do not generate enough power. I inquired about adding more panels and they said that I will have to start my contact again from the beginning. I don't have to do anything. I had issues with my checking account and opened a new account. Momentum contacted me 2 weeks later to tell me that the payment didn't go through. I changed my account info immediately but had already been charged 25$ for a late fee. I also found out that you only use the power while you are generating it. At night when your solar panels aren't generating power, you will have to pay for electricity from wherever you were getting it before hand. I have a solar bill and a PSE&G bill. I guess they didn't figure out how to store the energy you generated during the day to use at night. What is the point? I am anxiously awaiting my contract with Momentum being over. I would suggest you stay away from this company and use anybody else.
