This spot is the closest to the authentic Taiwanese food we can find within in California and Nevada. Comparing to Cantonese food or Sichuan food, Taiwanese cuisine is on the light and healthy side, not oily or salty. Below are some must orders: Kidney and chicken testicle in sesame oil broth. They make the freshest kidney and not overcooked! Chicken roll. They homemade it on site, super juicy and delicious. COD with chili paste. Very flavor and really juicy fish. Eel sticky rice. We added salted duck yolk which enhanced the flavor and presentation. Intestines. They do not have the authentic vinaigrette flavor but still good. I have been craving for the slow braised trotter with bamboo (bamboo is actually the highlight of this dish), so I pre-ordered it. It's a big portion for 10 people. Taro dessert. I recently visited their Monrovia location to celebrate a friend's mom's birthday, and let me tell you...the portions are huge! It's best to come with a big group and order family-style. It felt like the food just kept coming...endless appetizers, soups, and main dishes. By the end of the night, I. WAS. BEYOND. FULL! Here's a breakdown of what we had: Lobster Fruit Appetizer with Candied Walnuts: At first glance, this dish intrigued me. It featured a mix of apples, pears, avocados, lobster meat, and a condensed milk-like sauce. It sounded unusual, but it worked surprisingly well. The sweetness of the fruit paired beautifully with the lobster, and the candied walnuts added a satisfying crunch. It felt like a refreshing, slightly sweet start to the meal. Salt and Pepper Shrimp (Prawns): One of my favorites. Served on a hot pan layered with salt crystals and stones, these shrimp were cooked to perfection. The crispy exterior had just the right balance of salt and pepper, making every bite incredibly flavorful. Highly recommend. Taiwanese Platter (Sausage, Squid, Tofu & More): This platter included Taiwanese sausage, squid, sliced pork (I think!), tofu, and tofu skin, all served with two complementary sauces. I loved everything on this plate especially the mystery meat that tasted like pork wrapped in tofu skin. The squid dipped in the garlicky sauce was absolutely drool-worthy as well... The Soups: Steamed Egg Soup with Greens, Mushroom Soup, and an Herbal Chicken Soup (served in a massive jar). My favorite was the egg soup--it was unlike any version I've had before with the green complimenting the egg. The mushroom soup looked similar to hot and sour soup but had a deep, rich mushroom flavor with a strong umami profile. Can't go wrong with the mushroom soup as I love all kinds of mushrooms. The herbal chicken soup wasn't my personal favorite, as it reminded me of Korean herbal chicken soups which is very nourishing AKA very healthy, but I'm sure it's fantastic for overall wellness. Stinky Tofu: My absolute favorite. Unfortunately, I was already full when it arrived, so I could only manage a piece but it was heavenly. It's definitely an acquired taste, but the cabbage and sauce brought back memories of my time in Taiwan. So nostalgic and so good. Abalone and Pig Trotters: This was a more adventurous dish for me. I'm not usually into pig's feet or abalone, but the sauce was flavorful enough to convince me to try it. The abalone was surprisingly tender and well-cooked. T he pig trotters were also prepared nicely, though I couldn't quite get past the mental hurdle of eating pig's feet. Vegetable Dish with Ginkgo Nuts: This was something completely new to me. I believe it included ginkgo nuts along with vegetables I don't typically see used. It was unique and pleasantly surprising amongst all the other dishes. I always like to eat my vegetables with my meal so this went very well with everything we had. Sticky Rice with Eel: What a presentation! It was the final dish of the night and though I was too full to fully enjoy it, I did try a bit of the eel, which was cooked perfectly. The flavors were well-balanced, and it felt like a fitting, elaborate way to end the meal. Overall, this is a perfect spot to experience authentic Taiwanese cuisine and to celebrate special occasions. I had one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever encountered. I placed an online order through the Fantuan app, received confirmation, and was charged on my credit card -- so I drove one hour to pick up my food. When I arrived, they told me they were "too busy to open the app," so they never even made the order. What's worse, they refused to refund me and told me I had to contact the app myself, even though THEY accepted the order and took my money. Then they had the audacity to ask me, "Why would you order when we're so busy?" -- as if that's somehow the customer's responsibility to know their internal situation. This is completely unacceptable business practice: * Accepting orders you have no intention of preparing * Charging customers without providing service * Refusing refunds * Blaming the customer for your own operational failure I wasted two hours of my day driving back and forth, plus gas, and left with nothing but frustration. I've ordered here several times during lunch and thought the food tasted good. However, I recently noticed I was charged $24 for a small takeout order of shredded pork with dried bean curd, even though the lunch menu lists it at $13. When I called to ask, the staff said there was no lunch pricing that day (it was a Tuesday) and couldn't clearly explain when lunch prices apply. I later saw on Yelp that their posted lunch menu says Monday-Friday, 11:00am-2:30pm. I realized I was consistently charged dinner prices even during lunch hours. Very disappointing and confusing. This is a very simple home-style stir-fry dish, and the portion was quite small. The food was actually very tasty, so credit where it's due. However, the dining experience was disappointing overall. The restaurant was extremely busy and service was very slow. Some of our orders were sent to the wrong table, and a few items were missing entirely. We also asked for clean plates and bowls, but were told they had run out. On top of that, the environment was very noisy, with staff speaking loudly across the restaurant, making it difficult to relax or enjoy the meal comfortably. The food quality is good, but the atmosphere and service need improvement. Personally, I think this place is better for takeout rather than dine-in if you want a more pleasant experience. read more

This spot is by far my favorite family-style Taiwanese restaurant in SGV/LA and has been approved by several of my Taiwanese friends as being authentic and delicious. Their three flavor sauteed chicken and basil was my favorite dish, delivered an amazing tasty complex sauce and flavor-packed basil that went well with rice, and contained delicious tender chicken (be careful with the chicken bones in this dish though!). My 2nd favorite dish was the stir fried TW lettuce as I was impressed how much flavor they were able to introduce into this vegetable. The sauteed bean curd with pork dish had excellent flavor as well. Excellent and attentive service for our table of 6 on a busy Sunday lunch. Lots of people here on a Sunday lunch which also indicates their delicious food. I can't remember the last time I had better Taiwanese food than this place! read more

Two dishes in particular were absolutely unacceptable: The sautéed bean curd with pork strips tasted sour, as if it had spoiled. The celery with squid was even worse. The squid was foul-smelling, mushy, and clearly not fresh. I took a bite and had to immediately spit it out. I've attached photos showing the uneaten squid to make it clear I'm not exaggerating and immediately dumped into the trash can! This was part of a lunch special, but does that mean quality and food safety don't matter? It's deeply disappointing to receive food that feels unfit for consumption. They try to not let you see the prices of whatever you are ordering so they can rip you off. The waitress come with their tablets and asks you what you want and places the order. It's been many years since I came here, and the last time I came, Momo was under different ownership and gave us a less than pleasant experience. Finally, we came back to give this place a shot. We arrived for a weekday lunch. Around 12:30, they were fairly busy with just a few tables available. Service was pleasant and prompt. We placed our orders and got water quickly. All of our orders came out at the same time, which is a plus for a hungry guy. Their beef satay had plenty of flavor with tender chopped beef and green veggies. The fish filet in bean sauce isn't like many of the HK places. This was lighter in color, had great flavor with sautéed garlic in a mildly spicy sauce. So good with rice. Bean curd with pork strips and celery was also good. There were bits of squid and some pieces were a bit chewy, but the flavor was also good. We also noticed they have fried taro, which according to the Mrs., is hard to find in the SGV. It's a Taiwanese thing. The order came with 16 pieces and arrived to our table hot and crispy. It has a slight chewy consistency and a creamy sweet taro flavor. They also sell frozen dumpling, wontons, XLB and buns. Prices for each varies so ask them. It seems like they're good sellers, so I'll try those once I can make room in my freezer. During peak hours or weekends, the parking lot can be packed, with the Good Fortune market and other eateries bringing in the crowd. Just be careful as there are plenty of lousy drivers who also lack parking skills. Momo Bistro, not to be confused with Momo paradise is a Taiwanese, nostalgic hit the spot restaurant. They cook each dish the way your grandma did. Waitresses were kind to explain the dish and offered great suggestions on the dishes. Service was quick and attentive. The place has a few large round tables for larger patties but also good for small parties as well. The place is nicely kept, not run down for the amount of time it's been kept in service. We got the chicken and basil in clay pot. I can eat this with rice everyday. Perfect for the rainy cold days like today. The cabbage is exactly how mom would cook it to make us feel healthy eating our veggies. The clam with basil is the fam favorite with nostalgic flavor and laughter of the people who'd unluckily get an empty shell. The sticky rice was so flavorful and reminded me of when grandma would make it and put it in the bamboo containers. Sticky rice also had an abundance of dried shrimp on top to give it its new years auspicious feel. Bitter melon soup is hard to find but this place did it right. They made good usage of the pinapple to cut the bitterness of the melon but not overpowering the flavor of the whole soup. The chicken in the soup was still juicy and not dry. I had wished for the soup to be more bitter but my mom thought it was too bitter. But this was the perfect soup then! Their cake is also the best or closest to, here in LA, as again, it's not too sweet nor overboard in cream. Texture is more like a smooth sponge cake.
