Steamed fish

Came to the Rosemead location to celebrate a family member's birthday on a Friday evening. We were able to call ahead earlier in the morning and ask if we could be on the wait list or reserve a table. They told us they could reserve a table for us at 6pm. We originally were hoping for 7 or 7:30, but based on how busy and popular this place is I can see why they said no. Come early and get seated right away and there's still ample parking in their parking lot. By the time we left at 7:30p, the lot was packed and people circling around hoping to snag a spot from folks leaving. The restaurant is pretty large and has about 3 rooms with different size tables and booths. No matter the size of your party, there's a table that will accommodate. The staff were very nice and attentive and FAST! We had our food out probably 15 min after we put in our order! Now...on to the food. We ordered one of the set menus for our party of 7 and it was spot on! As you can see in the pictures we had all the "classics". Our set meal could easily be enjoyed by at least 10 people. We had so many leftovers! The food was all well prepared and sufficiently seasoned. Portions of each dish was plentiful and everyone will be able to get enough to satisfy. My favorite items: lobster (duh!), kung pao chicken, pork chops, and shaking beef. The seafood soup is a great starter, and don't forget to add a little vinegar and pepper! Great restaurant in the SGV. This location is much bigger than their Rowland Heights restaurant, but the food is exactly the same. This is a great alternative to the popular Newport Seafood, so don't sleep on this place!

Thanks to Rockstar Eater's recommendation, I headed over to Boston Lobster to try their lunch special. Their lunch special ends at 4:45pm, and offers various dishes that starts at $13.99. Both service & food was an 8/10. I ordered the Fried Pork Chop with Garlic Salt, Basil Fish Fillet, and Garlic Chicken. Out of the three dishes, my favorite was the Basil Fish Fillet. I feel like their cuisine is more Vietnamese style dishes than traditional Cantonese. They do offer a great wine selection (Opus One, Caymus, just to name a few) at very reasonable prices. They have a huge parking lot in the back. The restaurant is brightly lit which makes it feel welcoming. Definitely will be coming back soon to try their other items on their menu.

Signature lobster (medium 6lb)

Boston lobster originally came from ex employees of Newport Seafood. They initially became a slightly less expensive alternative to Newport while offering almost exact copy of the menu items. The signature lobster is pretty much the same but just a couple dollars less each pound. They moved out of their old location on Valley Blvd (which is now the location of a phenomenal Hunan restaurant) because that location had worst parking lot. The new location is much much better with plenty of parking and a much more upscale decor. The lobster is obviously a must order as it has a unique Vietnamese Chinese flavor that I couldn't find anywhere else. In fact I used to drive down from SF just to have the lobster. I used to think there is a difference in taste between this and Newport but I can't tell anymore. However it is indeed a couple dollars cheaper each pound of lobster. The small is about 4 lbs and medium about 6. Large is obviously bigger but I recommend 2 medium or 2 small instead of large mostly due to taste. The after meal oranges are good as usual. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the fried food such as fried calamari is very underwhelming with over used oil and breading. Service is very good as they constantly come to change the plates. Come here if you are willing to pay money for good lobster.

After an hour just to get here and another hour for our wait was all worth it. The food surpassed our expectations! It was savory, flavorful and fresh! Food came out swinging and the proportions were humongous! Modern ambience gave a wonderful vibe. Service was excellent and friendly. Easily our new benchmark! Parking is nonexistent because it's packed!

I really didn't want to leave a negative review, but I have to be honest. While eating the clams with bay leaves, I kept biting into a lot of sand. Then, the stir-fried beef ho fun also had sand in it -- my teeth got grated multiple times. The experience was terrible. The overall flavor was very average with nothing special. The restaurant environment looks dated and not particularly clean or tidy. The plating was also quite sloppy. What disappointed me the most was the hygiene issue -- sand in the dishes is a basic handling mistake. I hope the restaurant will pay serious attention to ingredient cleaning and kitchen hygiene. I strongly do not recommend this place. Very disappointing.

After visiting a friend of my husband, we saw a restaurant called BOSTON LOBSTER , it's sounded good so I told my family to give the place a try before driving home to San Diego. The Restaurant has plenty of space, but I chose to be seated near the entrance, since that's where I saw most of the staff standing, that way when I need something it's easy to reach out for them. The Menu was handed to us and I saw a lot of things on their Menu in a package deal, like a family style order. I didn't order that 'coz I am not familiar with some of the things on the menu so we just chose ala cart. I ordered a few things that I knew my Husband and Son would enjoy. * 5.75 pounds of LOBSTER with GARLIC PASTA. *CRAB with TAMARIND SAUCE *PORK CHOP SALT & PEPPER * YANG CHOW FRIED RICE I wanted to order more, but I was impressed with how HONEST our server was, he said "I think you should see first when the food comes out 'coz your Lobster alone is already big. I'm glad I listened to his advice 'coz at the end of our dinner we still had plenty left 'coz the servings were big, especially the Lobster with Garlic noodles. The 5.75 pounds of LOBSTER with Garlic Pasta was Huge when they delivered it to our table, the shells were already pre cracked, so it was easy to get the Lobster Meats. Omg! having the Garlic noodles with this dish is delicious! But surprisingly this time , I loved the CRAB more than the Lobster , but both were really really good, but the reason that I liked the Crab more is because the seasoning or Flavor of the sauce that I chose for our crab is so delicious!!!! The Crab was meaty and it has a good Tanginess with a light sweetness and a light spiciness to it. While my Husband and Son were enjoying the Lobster, I was devouring the Crab ;) The Fried rice and Pork was good too, but it's just the same taste as we always get on the other restaurants. The food here were delicious, the crab was totaly devoured by me and there was plenty of the Lobster left. It was DELICIOUS, but it was a Big Portion with all that Chunky Lobster Meats and Garlic noodles, my husband and son said that it was a heavy meal and made them so full :) The Foods were delicious, the portions were big, there were Plenty of Parking around, and the Service was Excellent. If ever we are in the area again, I will definitely make a stop here.

Came here for Mother's Day lunch with the family so it was definitely packed. We ended up waiting about an hour, but honestly the food made up for it once everything hit the table. The lobster was the highlight fresh, meaty, and loaded with garlic and green onions. Big portion that was perfect for sharing family style. Also liked the fried dishes and veggies on the side. Service was still pretty attentive even with the holiday crowd, which I appreciated because the restaurant was nonstop busy. Only downside was the long wait and some dishes leaned a little oily/salty toward the end. Pricing can also add up fast if you're ordering seafood. Overall though, still a really good family meal and worth coming back for special occasions.

Boston lobster special with garlic noodles- medium sized lobster (5-6lbs) - more than enough for 9 people!
Athina L.

This place is awesome! Don't be surprised by the name- the Chinese food here is legit. We came during lunch on the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the lunch specials. For 9 people the bill was about $350ish which is reasonable considering all the food we ate. We had leftovers that fed everyone again too. The star of the show is the Boston lobster special lobster with garlic noodles- so much food and so delicious. It's a pretty clean restaurant with ample parking (parking lot in the back). Big parties are welcome which made it convenient for our family vacation.

Never disappoints! I had their catfish Vietnamese style soup, must try it. I've been here about 4 times, all during lunch hour and we always get seated right away. We also ordered Mongolian Beef, Kun Pao Chicken and Walnut shrimp. Our waiter made sure to ask us a couple of times if everything was OK with our food. Love this place, definitely coming back.

I've been here a couple of times and finally getting around to a review. It's similar in terms of food to Newport Seafood, for those who are familiar with that place. Food is VERY good. Parking can be a little challenging given it's a popular place. Good sized portions. No complaints about anything I've had. Their speciality is the lobster. Mmmm

What's up: Lunchtime with the coworkers! Lobster was on everyone's mind and Boston Lobster has that in their name, so it has to be good, right? Parking: Plenty of parking available in their lot. We didn't have any issues with finding a spot during lunchtime. Environment: Since we got here right as lunch started, we didn't have much of a wait before being seated. We were seated at the large round tables and given menus. Orders were placed and the food came out quickly! Staff members were helpful with suggestions on lobster size. They also changed out our plates when they got filled up with the lobster shells and provided wet wipes. As a palette cleanser in the end, they provided orange wedges. What was ordered: - Lobster Noodle (6 lb lobster with yummy noodles) The ~$200 Set Menu which included: - Hot & Sour Soup (delicious) - Salt & Pepper Crab/Shrimp (it was ok) - Clam with Basil Sauce (tasty with a slight kick) - French Style Beef Cube (a bit dry but still good) - Kung Pao Chicken (a bit salty but good with rice) - Peking Style Pork Chop (sweet and sour yummy) - Sautéed Pea Sprout (yummy) - Fried Whole Fish (it was ok) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. The food was pretty good; it came out fast and was tasty. Staff members were friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. Credit cards are accepted.

Our family celebrated my cousins birthday here and my uncle reserved king crab for the occasion. It requires days in advance to reserve and costs market price roughly $80/lb. Each crab is roughly 10-12lbs! It was served in two versions: steamed with garlic and fried. The fried one is the best... The king crab is fresh! They don't keep it in the tracks at the restaurant as it is shipped to them the day it is served. We got to see the live crab before it's cooked. We were seated at the private room, Max capacity of 30. The servers were very kind and accommodating and was dish came one by one. We also tried their salt and pepper pork chops (crispy and tender), honey walnut shrimp (sweet salty and crispy), steamed fish (fresh and tender), lobster noodles (savory spicy and fresh), and Kung Pao chicken (sweet spicy tender!). We had a great time and stayed until they closed (9pm). It was a great experience to try their fresh king crab and Chinese dishes. The price is definitely for a very special occasion!

We came here for a friends birthday and really enjoyed. Classic family style spot that lets you try a bunch of dishes. We did the B Set for about 12 people and had leftovers. The fish was the highlight as the flavor was just amazing but everything was good overall. Service was also great/quick.

That's right, 5 minutes. Although I did go around 9:50AM so there wasn't a line nor another party in the dining area. Food: I woke up craving Vietnamese and this place didn't disappoint. The Bon Rieu had the depth of flavor that I crave. Honestly, I judge most Vietnamese pho restaurants by their Bon Rieu because some places simply use seafood powder in their stock to fake it. What results is a very thinly flavored broth that has very little umami. Bon Rieu should have THE MOST umami of any soup dish because of its tomato and crab base. That's how you can tell if a place is cutting corners. The Nem Cuom is huge and the dipping sauce is generous. The House Special Tea is reminiscent of a passion fruit green tea from a boba place. Sweetened just enough to not be saccharine. Ambiance: Quite small. I believe one of their main issues may be parking during peak hours as it shares a tiny parking lot with many other businesses. There's a spacious parking lot but there's rarely any spots available and will require you to wait for a free one. The interior is honestly very pretty. It's decorated with overhead chandeliers with bright lights and marble tables. When your table is ready, they also give you a tray full of chopsticks, napkins, and forks. Each table also has hoisin, sriracha, chili sauce, and another sauce I'm not too sure about. After we ordered, I got my pho da biet maybe 5 minutes after. The cha gios also came out a few minutes after too. Unfortunately, my boyfriend's com tam was forgotten about until after I devoured my pho. We even asked them about it in the middle and it was checked on but we weren't updated and thought they had went ahead and cancelled it but it still came out. No biggy, we packed it to-go since we basically split the pho da biet. Food: Pho da biet (9.5/10): The pho was soooo delicious. It was meaty with a little bit of sweetness to it. This is one of the few places where I don't feel the need to sauce down my pho to enjoy it. There's a good amount of meat in here. If you're a tendon enjoyer, there's about 3 big chunks in here. I love the way they separate everything. If you order this, it comes with the stone bowl at no additional costs. They separate the noodles and ribeye on the side and let you "decorate" it yourself. There was also a good amount of noodles in here. Com tam (7.9/10): I thought that this one was just okay. We got the grilled pork and grilled pork chop and I thought that the meats were cooked perfectly. There was a nice char to the meats and it was seasoned deliciously. It came with a lot of rice and a side of soup to enjoy! I did enjoy this fish sauce more than the one that came with the egg rolls. Overall, I wish this dish came out the same time as the pho so we could've enjoyed it together. Cha gio/Imperial Rolls (7/10): I love egg rolls but this one didn't really stand out to me. It comes with a good amount of vegetables that you can use to wrap your egg rolls in. I wish the fish sauce that came with this was more salty. Maybe it was that day, but I couldn't really tell what was inside the filling. It was all mushed in together instead of different layers. The skin was very thin and crispy which I really liked!

Com Tam is decent, rice texture is on point. Pork chop is marinated well but not enough lemongrass flavor, tender and not dry at all. Baked egg was good but not amazing, seemed like it missing shredded wood ear mushroom. Che Ba Mau by far hands down the worst I've had. Red bean wasn't soft, outer shell/skin was still pretty tough. Not much mung bean either after stirring it literally for about 4 seconds the mung bean basically disintegrated into the liquid. The liquid.. watered down skim milk, not a trace of coconut flavor anywhere. I didn't know you can mess up Che Ba Mau until I had it from here.

I ordered egg rolls and the Pho Dac Biet. The egg rolls came out first. Fresh from the fryer with lettuce, herbs and the nuoc mam/fish sauce. I ended up fishing that on my own (first meal of the day haha). I was wondering where my pho was. I flagged down the server and he seemingly forgot. He rushed to the kitchen to get that going and it came out within a few minutes. Broth check first. It was light and had flavor. Didn't need to add hot sauce or hoisin sauce. Dressed up the pho with the herbs and went at it. Finished that as well. Pretty extensive menu. Fresh food. Overall, a nice place to grab some Vietnamese food.
