    Signature Sauerkraut Fish / 老坛子酸菜鱼

We ordered their Signature Sauerkraut Fish and the Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Cured Pork. The sauerkraut fish was their signature dish. tender fish in a savory tangy, mildly spicy broth. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked with smoky cured pork. The portion was kind a small. The service was friendly. If you are student, show them your school ID, they offer you 10% discount.

Absolutely delicious! The signature sauerkraut fish dish has such an array of flavors and spice. It pairs amazingly with white rice. So glad this dish exists in the SGV. The seasonal veggies were crunchy and super flavorful. Not sure what the cook it in, but it's very tasty. And the Chili Oil Chicken Feet was most ideal. The chili oil is spicy but also flavorful - perfectly balanced. And the chicken feet is boneless and perfect. This dish caught me by surprise; so worth it! Servers were nice and helpful. And ambience is nice. Conveniently located in the outdoor portion of the Santa Anita mall.

Came on a Friday night and there were no seats indoors, but we opted for outside seating and it was also pretty comfy for a summer night! The signature fish for one was honestly enough for two people, and I enjoyed how the dan dan noodle had a kick, but was not too spicy and did not have an overwhelming mala flavor. The crispy pork was also great with the ketchup and chili powder pairing, but it was a bit too oily for me. Overall, this was still a great try and convenient for a quick bite at the mall.

The Food The star of the show is, without a doubt, the Suancai Fish. The broth is perfectly balanced--not just spicy, but tangy and deeply savory. The fish is incredibly tender and fresh, soaking up all that signature Sichuan numbing goodness. It's simple, focused, and just really good Sichuan fish. The Vibe The atmosphere is lively and modern, making it a great spot for a casual dinner with friends. While there's often a wait (because it's popular for a reason), the service is efficient and keeps things moving. The Verdict It's reasonably priced for the quality you're getting. If you're a fan of spicy, soul-warming food, this is a must-visit in a neighborhood already packed with great Chinese options. Food 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Service 5/5 Value 4/5 Overall 5/5

One of my favorite restaurants for Chinese sauerkraut fish! The depth of flavor is so good, but you definitely need to eat it with a lot of rice because it can get salty. Their other dishes are also really good, especially the veggies (it has wok-hei, IYKYK). I love that they have an outdoor patio that can accommodate larger groups. The largest inside table is maxed at 6 per table, so you'll probably have to sit outside if you have a bigger party. Service is also really good!

This place has been on one of my go to places for awhile and I am glad to have made the trip ! First off it's recommended to have reservations when you visit otherwise you will be waiting 30 min to an hour or so for seating. Not a huge restaurant and the place is packed. Multiple servers running around. We ordered the combo for two which came with the spicy fish, an appetizer, and a vegetable. Ordered are placed by scanning a QR code onto your phone. Having tried the frozen packaged food from the supermarket, I wanted to see what was the difference between the frozen one and the one from the restaurant. Aside from the noticeable price difference, the food does taste fresher dining in. There are more affordable options for this type of meal at other restaurants. One thing to mention is that for the spicy fish dish, you cannot adjust the spice levels of the signature fish dish. I just let the server know to tell the chef to put less chili peppers . I would be back again!

Came to an almost empty restaurant. Though there aren't too many seats in the fist place inside, got seated immediately, ordered from a QR code, and our fish came out in a few minutes, the beef noodles came out 7 minutes after that. The signature fish (for 2, $52.99) was really good, really salty and not too complex, our first bites we were pretty confident we could handle the spice, but halfway through we were very thankful for the pack of tissues they provide you. Delicious though, nothing painful and the bowl stays hot for a while. A great amount of fish, and we split one bowl of rice between 2, but I definitely suggest a bowl a person ($1.99/bowl) You get 2 things in the fish so we added beancurd and glass noodles, but you could also add vermicelli and tofu skin if I remember correctly. You could also add more than 2 things and spam for an extra charge. There's a glass window where you can see into the kitchen which is fun, not sure if it's self serve or not but there're also to go containers and cups/mugs of water in a corner. Our server however would come refill our waters and I didn't ask for tea to see if I could just walk up there to get it myself. The beef noodles ($12.99) was also a pretty small portion but delicious, the sauerkraut is so delightfully punchy compared to the one in the fish, mixes well with the beefy broth and noodles. But even without the sauerkraut the noodles are great and can be scooped out of the dish for picky eaters. There are fortune sticks on the table that you can shake and read a fortune from while you wait for your food to come out, obviously don't take them home, but they're fun. Glad that I tried! Only cons are probably the price, but I think it's worth it at least once.

After hours of shopping with my girlfriend at the Santa Anita mall, we originally wanted to snack on something. But when we walked by Tai Er, we were wondering why it's so busy here when other restaurants often fail in this location. We saw that many reviewers on here were upset due to the wait times, but I think this place is just popular because it's really good. So when we inquired and only waited 15 min. on a Saturday night, we were in for a treat! The servers did their job explaining where utensils and extra napkins are, offering complimentary hibiscus tea, giving instructions on paperless menu. The place has a fun modern vibe to traditional Sichuan food without being too over the top. They even have dining buddies if you come eat alone (their big mascot plushie). Food was really good for this area & I eat a lot of different Sichuan places. The signature sauerkraut fish was on point with thin tender slices & flavorful without being too oily/heavy. We ordered the portion for one, but it was plenty for two of us since we wanted to try other dishes. The Sichuan lettuce wrap had nicely pickled vegetables & those pork slices were the most tender I've had in a long time. I was worried that the garlic shrimp would be dry, but it was perfection. The shrimp was nicely cooked and bouncy, the vermicelli and onion slices and broccoli cuts the garlic, chefs kiss! Will be checking if they do deliveries because I'm ready to try more asap!

Ambiance: it's located on the second level of the shopping mall, fairly spacious inside and outside, waiting time could vary depending on the time of the day Service: very friendly although not fast, have to wait long for water and food being served Food & Drink: standard tai er menu, with few sizes for their most popular fish SIGNATURE SAUERKRAUT FISH - **** WITH HOUSE SAUERKRAUT, AND RADISH IN BONE SOUP, spicy and sauce, tasty with rice, recommend Roselle Tea - *** complimentary hot tea Price: moderate portions and reasonable prices, expect $35 per person

Pleasantly surprised. We ordered the combo for 2 which includes the signature sauerkraut fish, stir fried beef, and stir fried choy sum. The food was more than enough for 2 people. The choy sum was light and refreshing, paired perfectly with the spices of the signature fish. Stir fried beef was also 10/10. The signature fish was slightly spicy but the perfect amount. The restaurant itself was clean, we'd definitely come back!

Came in for a snack and It was actually worth the wait as you can walk around the mall. The food was pretty good for what we had. I was hesitant given the lower rating but turned out to be good. The sauerkraut fish was delicious. Add vermicelli as it doesn't get salty when soaking up the sauce but a good flavorful addition. The shrimp with vermicelli was also good and garlicky The pork belly lettuce wrap was light yet yummy when you combine all the ingredients. Service was a little slow but attentive. Set up like modern Chinese where everything is in a small drawer table side Had a fortune stick shaker at the table. That was fun to play with while waiting for food.

Hot Sauerkraut Fish Soup with tofu noodles. Portion for one, big enough for two.

Service dog friendly! We worry about bringing my dog to authentic restaurants but they were more than kind and offered our pup water. Service was 10/10 all around. Plenty of staff to help you if you're new to the experience. Portions are BIG. Got a spicy sauerkraut fish soup for one but it's big enough for two. Too numbing for my partner but I wish it was spicier. Nice little introduction to Szechuan heat for her. Soup was so flavorful and sauerkraut was decadent. I wish there was more in the bowl. I added tofu noodles which transports the soup well for your delight. This is what they're known for. If you're not here for the soup, what are you here for? Braised spinach - skip it. You're not missing anything. Shrimp with vermicelli - it's ok. Works if you do seafood but don't want soup but it could be so much more. Needs more garlic and pizzazz in flavor.

This was my second time eating at Tai Er, and it was exactly what I needed after an extremely long day. I wanted something light but flavorful -- spicy, comforting, and in a place where I could sit outside and not be too bothered. This was perfect. I got a table outdoors, and the staff promptly brought me ice water and their complimentary specialty hot tea (hibiscus and orange peel) -- honestly one of the reasons I came back. Ordering is easy with a QR code at the table. I got two small plates for myself: * Dan Dan Noodles - Spicy, with Sichuan peppercorns that bring that classic numbing heat. * Mouthwatering Chicken - A cold, spicy appetizer served over a bed of cucumber salad. Refreshing and fiery at the same time, and a great solo portion. Both dishes packed a punch -- the ice water was necessary! I lingered afterward and finished my hot tea, just enjoying the quiet outdoor space. They also offer non-spicy menu options and some good combo sets. As a Sichuan restaurant, their spicy dishes are definitely the highlight -- complex, bold, and satisfying. Easy parking when I went.

They have many classic Chinese dishes at a truly affordable price point. The food: We ordered four different dishes: green beans (v), stir fried egg plants (v), mapo tofu (v), and chicken with rice. For the first three dishes, we clarified with the owner to make this vegetarian (also vegan), which she was able to do very easily and without question. We communicated with her in Chinese, but she also spoke English to us, when we discovered that our Chinese was likely not as fluent as native speakers. Everything was flavorful, without relying on just an overwhelming amount of salt, and we really enjoyed the green beans that seemed to be cooked in fermented bean paste. I found the eggplants particularly tasty too! The service: This small store had so much business, so we did spend some time waiting before we could actually order our meal. The restaurant itself was filled with folks dining in, and there were multiple parties waiting for take out. Even so, once we did order our meal, it didn't take too long for all four dishes to come out. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere with red lanterns, outdoor seating, and plenty of TVs and projector screens showing World Cup matches. Our favorite dishes included: * Jianghu Chili Chicken 江湖辣子鸡 - Extremely spicy and packed with flavor. The lotus root added a nice crunch. * Spicy Stir Fried Clams 辣炒蛤蜊 - Fresh, flavorful, and one of the first dishes we finished. * Sherred Potato 麻辣土豆丝 - Tangy, spicy, and very addictive. * Hand Shredded Cabbage 手撕包菜 - Simple but executed perfectly with great wok flavor. * Chicken Cartilage Skewers 鸡脆骨串 - Nicely grilled and not overly tough. * Sausage Skewer 王中王串 - Classic and satisfying. * Spicy Crawfish 麻辣小龙虾 - Fresh crawfish with plenty of flavor. One thing worth mentioning is the spice level. My husband is a huge fan of spicy food and has tried many Sichuan restaurants throughout Los Angeles. He said this was one of the spiciest places he has visited so far. The biggest surprise was the value. I liked the crunchy texture of the bread for the Chinese burger. It's on the spicier side. The braised beef noodle soup and sautéed vegetables were my favorite. The xiao long bao wasn't soupy but the dipping sauce they give is very good. Staff is very nice. There are quite a few tables for indoor seating.

Usually…read moreI'm a big proponent of making hot pot at home - but YGF is truly a very delicious experience. I got the tomato broth and loved it! I love all the sauces that they have and appreciate the satay sauce, black vinegar, and sesame sauce. If you order a rice, they really pile it on which is so nice of them! They have a stamp card if you want to be a regular. It's so packed on the weekends during mealtimes. I wish they had more restrooms though because the line can get long.

After entering you get a bowl and place items you want in your soup in it to get weighed. The noodles are all dispersed on top of the counter and in the middle. It's not really organize sequentially. Anyway after weighing you get told a table to sit at and then wait there. They give you lemon water automatically and the tomato broth is vegetarian. Compared to other Malatang spots, I'd say their ingredients don't seem as fresh but they have a good variety and a stamp card which is nice. Every 10 lb is a free lb. Sauce bar is good so somewhere I would go back to. Seating area is clean too.

Straightforward delicious Sichuan-style noodles dishes. This spot is very popular and after tasting…read moretheir dishes and experiencing fast, attentive customer service, I can see why. My sisters-in-law who live in the area highly recommended this spot when we were deciding on a Sunday dinner the night before we flew out. Among the four of us, we ordered: - Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) - Biang Biang Noodles: least numbing of the noodle dishes we ordered. If you LOVE carbs and not a lot of sauce, this one's for you! - Dandan noodles: this thin noodle dish is slightly more numbing than the Biang Biang noodles, but still bearable and tasty. - Chongqing Special Noodles: most numbing of the three! I had to pause eating this a few times as it was getting a little uncomfy! The noodles are side but thinner than the Biang Biang noodles. I liked that we ordered noodle dishes each with different noodle types, flavors, and spice levels. The Biang Biang noodles were respite from the Chongqing Special Noodles, while the Dandan noodles had the right amount of peanut flavor and "mala." We arrived 45 minutes before closing on a Sunday night (it was a holiday the next day though). We were surprised that there was still a line of people wait in for seats close to closing time! Thinking we weren't going to be seated, we decided to order for takeout. We ended up being the last party to be seated! The staff was kind to transfer our takeout orders as dine-in dishes! The staff had the right amount of customer service and attentiveness for a Chinese restaurant, if you know what I mean haha. For amazing noodle dishes, comfortable seating, and accommodating service, Chong Qing Special Noodles gets a solid five star rating!

We ordered the Biang Biang Noodles, featuring hand-pulled noodles topped with savory ground pork and a rich tomato-based gravy. It was absolutely delicious and easily a 9/10. The Chongqing Dan Dan Noodles were just as impressive, with a rich, nutty sesame sauce that was flavorful and perfectly balanced, 9/10 according to my husband who enjoyed it. The prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the portions are generous. Highly recommended if looking for authentic, satisfying noodles!
