Crab Grabber is such a solid seafood spot in Pasadena! I love that the owner is actually in the restaurant making sure every dish comes out right. We ordered Combo B, which comes with 3 fried items and 4 lbs of seafood--perfect for sharing. You get to customize your seafood and then pick your sauce. They have the classic seafood boil flavors, but also Szechuan and garlic if you want to switch things up. The steamed garlic fish was a surprise favorite. The broth was SO flavorful. We also tried the duck and honey walnut shrimp, and both were delicious. Great portions, flavorful food, and friendly service. Definitely coming back! read more

I read great reviews on Crab Grabber in Pasadena. They had a Yelp event which I wasn't part of. I actually had high hopes for them. Unfortunately, they missed the mark when I came here for take-out. I placed my order online through Door Dash. It's a standalone restaurant. Small parking lot behind it. Nicely decorated exterior. Interior had good space based on what I saw from the pick-up area. Since I didn't dine in, I didn't see the rest of the inside. My order was ready upon arrival. Lots of staff behind the front counter ready to greet customers. They seemed friendly at first, but when I returned back to inquiry about a potential mix up on my order, most of them walked away. Hmmm? I mistakenly thought they gave me two Iced Jelly and left out my Red Bean Soup because one of them looked watery from the top. Please note Red Bean Soup should not be watery. I have eaten quite a bit of them to know the real deal. One lady staff opened the container and said to me, "See there are red beans inside". OMG, I was a bit flabbergasted. That is not how a red bean soup should be. Another nice lady staff asked if I would like another red bean soup on the house. I said no because I didn't pay for two. I kindly ask that they make a legitimate red bean soup going forward. I just left. 1 Head On Shrimp (half pound) - Got gloves for the shrimp boil. Quite flavorful and garlicy! Averaged size shrimps... wished they were bigger though. 1 Fried Fish Fillet - Lots of delicious fillets, but tartar sauce given along with it was not the common condiment for it. Not very Asian inspired. Leave out the tartar. 1 Seafood Cream Soup - Very plain and bland, no flavor whatsoever, and watery. 1 Red Bean Soup - Soup was sweet, but red bean was bland. Btw, very small amount of red beans. More liquids than beans. 1 Iced Jelly - Now this dessert was delightfully sweet and wonderful. It was worth getting. We ordered the Combo B ($89.99), which is perfect for sharing. It's been a long, long time since I had Cajun seafood boils. I've heard of this new place in Pasadena so we gave it a try. We got combo B worth $89.99 for three people. We picked peeled shrimp, crayfish, mussels, and clams. We also added half pound of sausages. It came with two potatoes, two eggs, four corns and broccoli. For our sides, we chose sweet potato fries, dumplings and chicken wings. Service was fast but when we saw our order, we questioned ourselves if we can finish this. To our surprise, we actually did. We were pretty excited to try this place, but we thought the seafood + Chinese dishes were just okay. Surprisingly, the unlimited sides bar is where it's at! My family came for lunch around 1 pm on Sunday and it was packed. Couldn't even find a spot in the parking lot and had to wait a little bit for someone to leave. We personally found it a bit salty and asked for some rice to eat it with. I was expecting sausage but they don't add that here. Of the 3 Chinese dishes we ordered, the duck was my favorite. It had a nice, smoky flavor, and portions were generous. The leftovers heated up nicely the next day as well! The kung pao chicken was pretty meh and tasted much too sweet. It felt like an Americanized version of the dish rather than having an authentic taste. The fish took so long to come out that we were pretty much done eating when it was finally brought out. Looking at the time stamps on my photos, it came out a full 30+ minutes after the first dish, the seafood combo, came out. We tried a little bit just to taste it. The fish itself tasted very fresh and delicious, but it was very bland. Didn't taste much garlic, and it definitely could've used more salt. My husband found this place in Pasadena and it's a cool spot to come to. Parking can be a pain though. You can park in the back, but when it's full, there's not many options. They don't have alcohol. The food is delicious and staff is nice. My husband loves the salad bar which is open to the customers. They hand you popcorn in the beginning when you get seated too. The only downside is that the food and service is slow. It's hard to call on staff and it takes a long time before the food comes out. If you have patience though, it's worth it. We came here yesterday with some friends and loved the idea of a Szechuan twist to seafood boil! They come with a bunch of free side dishes which were actually quite yummy and their spice definitely has some spice to it. I have mixed feelings about this place because there were some items we loved, but some that were so mid and the service was extremely slow. We got 2 Combo As doing mostly snow crabs and some shrimp, trying both Chinese flavors and Sweet Potato Fries/Steamed Dumplings. Note we also requested regular fries and never got those. I asked about this maybe an hour 45 min in and they still never came. The steamed dumplings came maybe an hour and a half in and were straight up cold. The sweet potato fries were ok but nothing special. I will say the actual seafood boil was delicious and the szechuan flavor was really good. The corn was delicious and the sausages were great add ons. Note 1 lb of snow crab is literally one cluster and that's it. We also ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken and Cucumber Egg dish. The fried chicken was so good but definitely very spicy. Our first dish came more than an hour in which was only 1 seafood boil. By the time it had hit 2 hours, we still hadn't received the cucumber egg. We asked them to cancel it if it wasn't made yet and they eventually brought it out but did take it off the tab. The owner tried to explain to us that they were down a chef and that's why things were just a tad slower today, but I think it was way more than a tad. This is a popular, relatively new seafood boil place that also mixes in Chinese food on their menu. I would have to say that our experience was overall pretty good, with a few hiccups that hopefully they will work out in the near future. First off, they opened in a really nondescript building in what is now one of the sketchier, abandoned areas of East Pasadena now overrun with homeless, prostitutes, and mentally ill people wandering around. While this is not their fault in the least, it does make someone who knows the area wonder why here. The outside is still the same bleak, run down exterior of the previous tenant - a long running, now closed Japanese restaurant. The interior, though, while nothing fancy has cleaned up nice. They offer a rather large free buffet bar for all diners full of all kinds of specifically authentic Chinese appetizers, from cucumber salad to sweet red bean soup to all kinds of innards and spicy tofu. So, people seem to really enjoy all that free stuff. Parking is also easy here, either on the street or in the lot they have in back. Tonight, on a Sunday, it was very busy. While there was no wait to be seated, there was only one server and one host. Then a couple more male servers seemed to appear to help out over time. The fact they're so understaffed is one of the bigger drawbacks right now. The servers are friendly and helpful in general, but when it is packed they can only run around so fast. They need to hire more staff for when they are busy. I assume the kitchen has the same issues, as it took almost an hour to get scallion pancakes and 25 minutes to get a 1/2 lb of sausage we forgot to originally order with our meal (This must be one of the only boil places where they don't include sausage but give you broccoli). We got the Combo B, which was $90 for 4 lbs of seafood, four half pieces of corn that add up to one cob total, a couple of potatoes, two hard boiled eggs, and broccoli, along with your choice of 3 "fried items". We got 1 lb. of snow crab and 3 lbs. of peeled shrimp in their everything sauce, spicy. It was a good sauce and a large amount of shrimp. The potatoes were quite a bit hard and undercooked, but oh well. For the fried items we had the onion rings, which were chewy inside and still a bit raw, the french fries, which they completely forgot to salt at all, and the garlic bread (2 pieces). The sides weren't great. Real bad was the $10 for 1/2 lb. of average sausage, not andouille, as is custom. It didn't finally make it out until everything else was eaten. And, worst of all were the $11 scallion pancakes. They took nearly an hour to come out, came out way near the end of eating, and were dreadfully uncooked, floppy, and drowning in oil. One bite and I threw in the towel. Don't order the sausage or the scallion pancakes! So, would I go back? I think so. I did like their sauce. I might try their Chinese food menu items for their lunch specials. It will be better once they get their liquor license, which they are still waiting on. Lose the broccoli and put a 1/4 lb. of sausage in the regular boil. And please find more staff as soon as possible. Still, despite these problems, probably due to the fact they've been open less than a year, people seem excited to try the place and I believe things will get better and smoother. Spicy beef with tongue, duck necks, edamame, fried peanuts, sweet Chinese dessert soup and many others. We had mild combo A with shrimp and spicy beef dry hot pot. The dry hot was very, very spicy for us and we can take the heat. The combo A served with different type of sauce and we had the Cajun style. It was mediocre, didn't taste the Cajun spices at all. We came to Crab Grabber with friends after seeing many glowing reviews and raving TikTok/reel videos, which were already a bit suspicious. Crab Grabber offers seafood boil and also traditional Chinese dishes, so it seems to be very abundant in options. The crab boil deals also seem to be such a steal since it includes your seafood of choice as well as sides. They even have a serve yourself buffet area where you can get some salads or very niche Chinese dishes that you don't typically see which is really cool. However, I feel that with so much that Crab Grabber is trying to do - complimentary buffet section, crab boil, Chinese food, they fall short in truly excelling or doing one exceptionally well. Crab boil is what we came for and it was pretty lackluster in flavor. Not enough seasoning. Do not be expecting your typical Cajun experience here. They're pretty skimpy on the sides. We were rationing them between our group. We didn't particularly like any of the complimentary sides either. Same thing - big batch but no flavor. This place is off of Colorado in Pasadena - close to the Cadillac dealership. Don't be fooled by the outside/signage - this place is delicious and very generous with their portions. I'd describe it as a combination of boiling crab and Phoenix Chinese restaurant. The service by Kelli was outstanding! They have a large parking lot in the back and street parking in front. We tried kung pao shrimp, the fried "dry" spicy fish, cabbage dish, and the peeled shrimp with corn, potato and eggs. You can customize your spice level for every dish. I came with my family here two days in a row, first was a trial whether the place is good or not. My uncle and aunt love to try new places and they saw this place in social media. The place is decorated with adorable colorful seafood and sea creatures, my son enjoyed finding and naming them all! Parking is on the back, the first time there was parking and second time it was packed but finding a spot wasn't hard! Street parking is an option. My aunt is not a big seafood eater, so I'm surprised she chose this place! But this place isn't just seafood! They also serve unlimited cold Chinese side dishes such as pig ear, spicy duck, seaweed salad, shrimp chips, sesame balls, and more! They also have traditional Chinese dishes, lunch special, fried appetizers, and à la carte seafood! The servers are very nice, quick and helpful. They gave us free kettle popcorn when seated and took our orders and answered our questions. The nonspicy is garlic butter which I definitely enjoyed for combo A (1lb shrimp and 1lb mussels)! The level 1 spicy isn't too spicy so I was able to try some of them from my family's combo B (snow crab, shrimp, mussels). We also got chicken wings, onion rings, sweet potato fries, and fries that are sides for the combos. We ate so much of the free cold dishes and slowly enjoyed the seafood which we were able to take to go. We enjoyed it so much we will be back! The owner is very nice! My favorite spot in town for Cajun seafood plus a variety of ayce cold dishes, all freshly made daily by the owner, who's been in the restaurant industry for decades. Their seafood and crawfish are amazing and not overly seasoned, the portion is good too, enough to feed the hungry crowd. I love their duck and peppercorn chicken, so yummy! A friend recommended this seafood boil spot in Pasadena, and it was absolutely worth the drive! There's a parking lot right behind the restaurant, which makes parking super easy. What really surprised me was the free AYCE cold appetizers -- duck necks, wings, feet, duck heads, and more. As long as you don't waste food, everything is unlimited, and the flavors are great. I even heard nearby customers saying "crazy" because they'd never seen a restaurant this generous. The owner is from Chongqing, and she personally makes all the cold dishes. She's been doing this for over 30 years, and it really shows. The seafood boil comes in many flavors, spicy and non-spicy, with both Chinese and Western styles. We ordered a non-spicy one and added spicy sauce on the side -- perfect balance. The crawfish was fresh, firm, and well-cleaned, with a huge portion. I've never heard of a seafood boil that offers a complimentary unlimited side bar but they had A LOT of options - seaweed, pickled veggies, duck neck, duck wing, kimchi, and other veggies. We ordered the 4-person combo which was more for 3 people but the quality of the seafood was great. You choose your sauce, 3 fried foods, and 4 types of seafood which comes with 2 potatoes, 2 eggs, 6 corns and broccoli. We chose the New Orleans cajun sauce, two orders of the snow crab, shrimp head on, and clams. The snow crabs were full of meat and the shrimps were big and plump, although the clams were just okay. The owner also offered us mala sauce to try since it's a something you rarely see as a sauce option at a seafood boil and it was a fun Chinese twist on a classic dish. I also surprisingly really enjoyed the scallion pancake beef rolls but the main star of the show was the seafood boil so I didn't eat too many of the sides. I don't normally give five stars but this place is definitely five star worthy! Family and I went on a Tuesday night around 5. There was no wait and a small amount of people. There is a popcorn machine at the front that they actually end up giving to you. Apparently the owner loves popcorn and wanted to give these out as their "chips and salsa". The staff is friendly and very kind to my feral toddler. The owner even came after to check how our meal was. My husband ordered 2 lbs of shrimp with the spiciest sauce and enjoyed it. I ordered 1 lb of the headless, peeled shrimp with the lemon and garlic butter. There is a 1/2 lb option which I should've ordered instead. There are plenty of appetizers and rice/noodle dishes as well. We ordered noodles for my son that he actually ate! When the food came, the staff even poured our food into the trays. They even have gloves! They have a buffet section of several side dishes, salad, and soup. Everything we ate was good. The restrooms are clean. There is a small parking lot in the back, as well.
