If you wish to find the authentic Taiwanese cuisine, look no further! If you have a serious sweet tooth for teas, look no further! This is the cafe that a must try. This small cafe can be easily overlooked as it's set as a lower half of the building, below the ground level. The neighborhood seems green and pleasant. Not many people walk about on a weekday. Few days ago, a Yelp event opened to the elite members, and one of them claimed me as their plus one. I went in and saw how lovely the wooden interior design was. Although the space was small, there's outdoor front porch for customers to sit or mingle. Because of the event, the options for food and drinks were limited. But boy, lemme tell ya. The quality of the authenticity made up for the small quantity; the food was all delicious! And the drinks were perfect for a guy with a fanatically sweet tooth like me. Let's start with food: 1) Braise mince pork: it's definitely a favorite of mine. The rice was all fluffy, sticky and firm. The pork topping the rice sealed the deal. I must learn how to emulate the rice. How did they perfect it? I may never know... 2) Popcorn chicken: throw out everything you know about the popcorn chicken, because this is Taiwanese piece, and it's in a whole different league when it comes to breaded flavor and the richness of the dark chicken meat. Another favorite! 3)Taro: if anyone wants an introduction to taro, this is it. This will guarantee to surprise you how a thing that looks like a potato wedge, except it tastes slightly sweeter and texture inside was smoother. A great side dish! 4)Taiwanese Sausage: it was nice, and enjoyable. I wasn't wholly as impressed with it as I was with others above. Regardless, this is something you wouldn't have a regret to try. 5) meat roll: this was a fun bite. There's a party of flavors going in as I chewed it. I couldn't detect what was in it, but then, I didn't pay attention to the details too long; I was savoring the moment. Moving on to the drinks... 1) Momo's Milk Tea with Boba: sweet and creamy tea with some nice bobas. This was a delightful experience. 2) Green Tea Milk Foam: this is such a discovery! Green tea with milk foam? And it tastes a bit salty and lightly sweet but then, it works so well with the green tea. 3) Lemon Black Tea: I'm usually not a fan of a tea with lemon in it, but somehow, someone struck the right harmony when it is sweetened up. 4) Assam Milk Tea with Boba: this is a tea for some with serious sweet tooth, like me. It's sweeter than Momo's Milk Tea, and a bit less creamy. The difference is enough for me to grab one more of this. Such a treat! read more

Popcorn chicken and the appetizers are good as always. First time trying the hot pot and it is bad. There's no flavor and only had about 4 slices of beef in it. Truly, it's a sad pot. Something you can pull together in a college dorm. One thing really bugged me was how awful the milk tea can be. It's 2019 and this place is still using an excessive amount of milk powder that adds this awkward sweetness to the "milk tea". Please give a second thought before ordering the overpriced sugary water. We felt bad for the only server for the evening as this place gets quite busy on weekdays. It's rich, creamy, and their cheese foam is perfect. It's thick and the perfect bit of bitter. My review is based on this past Saturday's experience around noon. It was pouring rain outside and as I approached a few minutes after Momo's Cafe opened, I could see the place was small and packed. Luckily, there were two tables left and some window counter seating. We were shown to a table that could sit four. In fact, most of the tables accommodate a four person party. What contributed to the so-so rating is service. While the table next to us was repeatedly recognized and brought their items, we could not be bothered the slightest bit. No one bothered to rotate their bodies or look in our direction. I finally had to flag someone to place our order. I heeded another reviewer's suggestion to order the fried honey toast early because of the prep time, but it was clear the staff wasn't paying attention to our progress. The dessert came out barely halfway through the entree so the green tea ice cream, which was delicious and fine but not presented as a choice like it was supposed to be on the menu, arrived melting and continued to be, as it sat on the table while we ate lunch. Lunch was the pricey minced pork rice. This is my favorite Taiwanese dish, so I was dismayed at how expensive it was ($9.50!). The fried steak was weird and expensive too. It came cut out in slices, fried on the outside and raw on the inside. A server put a cast iron pan in front of us and left. I had to ask what to do, and he came back to light it up and tell us to cook the meat to our desired finish. The steak was next to a fried egg and vegetables so I didn't really like the mix of raw meat next to cooked food served on the same plate. I also had to inquire about a bowl of rice or noodles, which the menu said it would come out with; I wasn't asked my preference and given rice, which is ok because I wanted rice. The steak also came with a drink of the day which we found out was a green tea. For an extra dollar, we upgraded to the milk foam. I ordered the matcha while my dining companion ordered the tiramisu. The tiramisu did not have the milk foam, which is ok. I liken it to a salty cheese foamy topping. The highlight was the expensive honey toast ($21.50). It is very large, and while I am proud and ashamed to say we finished it after lunch, I definitely say it is good for 2-3 people, at least. The toast is fried and dense, but good dense that it held up when it arrived at the table and folded in Nutella well. I noticed that employees carried and used fresh fruit so I am confident that the strawberries, kiwi, and mango pieces sprinkled throughout were fresh and delicious. Towards the end, we had to flag someone for a check. When we received it, it was the wrong one. When we brought it to the server's attention, she agreed it was the wrong check. We also did not have our plates cleared and were not checked out. Our waters were not refilled and items were kind of dropped on the table with no rhyme or reason. For instance, our two entrees arrived at different times. Nevertheless, I liked the food and would consider coming back for delicious expensive food. read more

Boba tea: I went to check out Momo's Cafe mainly for the boba tea. That foamy consistency on top was what lured me into giving it a shot. My friend and I had the momo milk tea and the green tea. Both teas were pretty good buuuuuut the foam was unexpectedly more salty than sweet, which I'm not sure worked well with the tea. It tasted better once we mixed our drinks. Food: As for the food, we tried the Taiwanese sausage and my friend had the pork rice bowl. They hit the spot. All in all, I had a good experience but I hope they add change their foam recipe and expand their menu. read more

Review is based on 9/8 grand opening day experience. My bf and I sat between Veronique and Alice and we had very similar experiences. My bf is Taiwanese and a diehard support any business that's producing Taiwanese food/drinks as quickly and as often as possible. The service wasn't the greatest. my bf was the "gentleman" in Alice's review. They had a sausage hamburger but the rice wasn't fully cooked. The sizzling noodles had very little flavor. The carrot in the beef noodle soup wasn't cooked long enough and it was way too big. The bokchoy in the beef noodle soup was half rotten already. The slices of beef in the beef noodle soup wasn't tender at all. The broccoli was old. I think we were wrong to treat this place as a restaurant it should truly be considered a small cafe where you go for dessert and drinks. The food can't even be labelled as decent it was half inedible. The place is very small not sure why they were struggling with a small space. Stick to drinks for now. I'm sorry, I'm really disappointed and consider this a hangry review. We spent about $50 on delivery for a beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken, and minced pork rice. Portions for the minced pork was ok, popcorn chicken was even bearable for $8, but the noodles were so tiny. They tried to spread out the noodles in the take out box to look fuller, but the tiny half container (of a tiny container) of soup made me really annoyed. Also, looking at the takeout for the minced pork, it's a shallow container compared to typical takeout boxes. This was my cheat day of eating take out and it was ruined by tiny portions. How much could soup or noodles cost? I hope the restaurant reevaluates their cost-saving corner cutting. I've eaten in this restaurant before because it was the only Taiwanese place in the DC area. I am Taiwanese so I've eaten countless versions of the items on the menu. I am glad Momo's has opened as they serve decent food and excellent milk tea. If you think Kung Fu Tea is good, you need to try this place. While places like KFT have many flavors and options, the quality of ingredients are subpar. (Think Starbucks vs boutique coffee shop) The milk tea taste great without having too much sugar. The milk foam is also superb, better than Gong Cha's. While I wish the beef noodle soup had a little more broth, I enjoyed the flavor and the texture of the noodles. I'm also glad they included pickled vegetables with the dish. I'll be back. read more

The decor is adorable (very chibi) and the food reminds me of home style cooking, aka comfort foods, like Chinese curry, s-f pickled mustard greens, braised beef noodle soup, etc. There are nice touches. What a great addition to the neighborhood. Fast, inexpensive, in a cozy, but comfortable, space. They also have takeout and are open late. The menu is small, but distinctive, as Taiwanese food is not common in DC. Everything we ate was fresh, interesting, and excellent. The service was quick and attentive. They offered to customize several of our orders and brought out some amazing chile sauce when we asked for more heat. The owner/chef came over to check on us and answered some questions about preparation of the dishes. He asked for our opinion about things and if we any any suggestions. This will likely become one of our go to places when we need a nearby quick meal. We also saw couples who seemed to be enjoying more leisurely dates, so don't let the convenience of Momo's keep you from going there if you are not looking for that. read more

It was one of those drizzling yet sunny days in DC where all you want to do is have desserts and cuddle. Well my partner decided to take me to a new cafe in the DC area and I was too excited! As soon as we arrived I immediately noticed the floral wall filled with roses - I told him we have to take pics later! Walking into Momos, the ambience was cozy yet very modern. To the left were booths with white curtains giving off a romantic yet relaxing feel. To the right, were tables for larger parties. Of course we had to sit at one of the booths! They had just been opened for maybe a week and we were nicely greeted by the manager who walked us through the menu. We decided to get the Fried Ice Cream which was sprinkled with strawberries, kiwis, and mangos. It tasted so delicioso! To top it off we ordered the Orange Green Fruit Tea, which tasted sooo refreshing and fresh. No complaints whatsoever. Overall, Momos definitely exudes a Taiwanese homely vibe - I've traveled to Taichung and Taipei in the past and this cafe is nothing short but amazing! Saw this place listed under "top eats" on uber eats and pretty good reviews. Ordered the braised pork bento and found it sorely disappointing. Reminded me of middle school lunch food. Corn and peas were kind of soggy and brown looking. About half of the "pork" was just fat without any meat. Egg was dry and a bit overcooked. Seasoning was uninspired; they basically dumped a bit of soy sauce on it as far as I can tell. To improve this dish, I would suggest the following: - Cook the egg right - Significantly improve the quality of the meat. - Add sauces (e.g. yum yum sauce, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce). And please don't sell the sauce packets separately for absurd prices like some places do. - Get rid of the corn and peas, replace with dumplings or sushi rolls or something. - Give the option to replace the white rice with fried rice. read more
