I had my first honey toast about a year and ever since then I've been looking for places that make them. So far I only know of two in the area. Magnolia and Momo's Cafe. Momo's Cafe opened up about six months ago in Georgetown. It's located on the first floor of a residential office complex. Momo's Cafe focuses on Taiwanese cuisine. Like I said before I'm a big fan of honey toast, so once I heard they had it I had to come. Additionally, I also tried the fries dumplings and popcorn shrimp as well as and a few of their drinks. Everything was extremely good. I definitely plan on coming back soon to some other items from the menu. My food was brought out to me quickly and correctly and the restaurant itself is extremely clean. I had the chance to meet the owner and he explained to me that these were the dishes he grew up on in Taiwan. He was always very friendly and hospitable. If you're looking for parking you there are a few options across the street. You can either park in the Safeway lot for two hours, but just make sure you purchase something from the supermarket. Your other option is the parking lot right behind the Safeway lot. It's metered and you can choose how long you want to stay for. Welp....I'm not sure what happened, but I thought this place was just okay. The space is totes adorable, but the food is just okay. We did not have any of the teas, and maybe that's where they thrive, but I might be back to just try some of the drinks. They are pricey though. This is the first Taiwanese place I've been to with a dessert at over $20. I have had really dope honey toast before....it wasn't that expensive. So my husband and his pops ordered the beef noodle soup, which was lacking in flavor. It was too light of a flavor, under seasoned, maybe? Not sure. Either way, we were underwhelmed. We also ordered the Chinese sausage and popcorn chicken as appetizers. They were okay, but I've definitely had a lot better. Also half of the chicken in the bowl was warm, and the other half was somewhat cold. Not sure what happened there. Decent food, nearly non-existent service are the high points of this new Taiwanese cafe -- even though it's in its "Grand Opening" period. As already noted by "Alice" in her review, "total chaos" inside. Walked in, guy behind the counter looked at us, then went back to texting on his phone. Food: Ordered popcorn chicken, which was great, along with hot soup, and a sausage dish. They brought the chicken and sausage (both quite good) but forgot the soup. I had to get up and ask for the soup. Then, although there were two of us, and we said specifically we wanted to share, they only brought the one bowl of soup with two sets of chopsticks -- and no spoons. So we had to get up and ask for the spoons. And the napkins. Judging from the other customers, this place is mostly for college and high-school kids looking for a snack and some bubble tea, so probably a mistake to think of it as a restaurant -- although since they have a $30 steak entree I'm confused. The website for the place, which has an English and a Mandarin version, is a jumbled and unfinished mess: most photos of the menu are missing, most English labels aren't yet added. Drinks: I've never posted any Yelp reviews yet today is an exception coz this place's milk tea really brought back my childhood memory of having the first milk tea in Asia 15 years ago. Both my Taiwanese bf and I gotta admit they really did a good job on the drinks. I was a bit nervous after finding out from one of the servers that their milk tea is made from fresh milk, which is not good for me as I have lactose intolerance and I don't usually order milk tea, however my stomach was still fine after a few hours. Maybe they use lactose free milk? I don't know but so far so good. Food: I am not an expert on the food as I have never been to Taiwan but my bf said the chicken is pretty authentic, the mince pork is good even though it looks different from what he usually eats, and my beef noodle has an interesting taste. The broth has a slight sour taste and we guessed they put some vinegar in there but we both dont mind having that. I really don't like oily noodles at all but I like everything sour so this is actually perfect for my taste. The beef shank is very tender (and I know this type of meat takes a long time to get that level of tenderness). However, yes, the carrots could be chopped a bit smaller. Service: We had different servers coming to take our orders, serving water and food, bringing chopsticks per our request, asking us for suggestions etc. But in general they were all polite and quick. At one point, one of them did mistake our order for another table's order but he was just confused and all of our orders were ready on the same tray, so no big deal. We finally made it to this super cute cafe in DC. Being a lover of Instagram-worthy cafes and restaurants I was super excited to enter this little cafe with a beautiful flower wall waiting for us at the entrance. Upon entering, we saw a quaint and cozy little cafe that was perfect for spending an afternoon with friends or a date. I was already happy with what I saw but I was really looking forward to the food and drinks. The chef Lawrence kindly explained to us seasonal recommendations and also his aim to make authentic Taiwanese foods using fresh and natural ingredients. We ordered the Milk Foam Green Tea and the Ice Cream Cocoa. I loved the rich creamy layer of cheese foam that floated above a refreshing, slightly sweet green tea underneath. The Ice Cream Cocoa was also a new experience - kind of like an affogato with hot chocolate and vanilla ice cream. It was warm, smooth, and creamy - perfect for a cold December day. For entrees we got the Popcorn Chicken, Braised Pork on Rice, and Chicken Katsu Sandwiches. I loved the Popcorn Chicken for it's light, crispy batter that was savory with herbs and spices. The Braised Pork on Rice had a generous amount of pork and veggies with a perfectly runny egg and rice. The pork belly was so soft and tender it melted in my mouth! It was a nice balance of the crunchy vegetables and the nice, fatty pieces of pork belly. The Chicken Katsu came with large pieces of tender chicken covered in a teriyaki-style sauce, a fried egg and lettuce. I loved the house-made mayo that it came with. Overall the portions were large and the food came out fresh and made-to-order. Finally for dessert we got the Honey Toast which was a feast for the eyes and stomach! It was beautifully covered in green tea ice cream, house-made custard syrup, sprinkles, cookies, puffs, red bean, fresh strawberries, taro, mangoes and more! Also inside were squares of toast that were lightly fried. One dish was enough to feed 3-4 people. It was the perfect dessert because its such a good variety of different desserts in one that it will satisfy everyone's different tastebuds. All in all, it was a wonderful experience - impeccable service, clean and pleasing atmosphere, delicious food and drinks. This easy to miss cafe on McCarthur blvd is a great place to stop by for some Taiwanese food! Upon going into the cafe, there's an outdoor flower wall to your left and cat chef art on the there side- both super cute decorations! There's easy to find street parking that is available with limits to 2-4hr spots. For the food itself, they have a good number of appetizers and entrees with my favorites being the popcorn chicken, Taiwanese sausage, Taiwanese taro meat roll, and fried fish cake! I would say they don't have as many options as other bubble tea places (Kung Fu, Teado, Ten Rens), but the Assam milk tea and lemon black tea was just as good! read more

We were still happy with our food selections: a simple and satisfying chicken katsu sandwich (my husband described it as a tasty Taiwanese club sandwich) and rich, buttery sizzling noodles. The fried ice cream is noteworthy. Fried ice cream is something that I order infrequently, usually for novelty, but the one offered by Momo's is especially good - it tastes like a fresh donut filled with ice cream! The service was very welcoming. We had a fussy infant in tow and the staff helped us move the table to fit his baby carrier in the booth (there are also high chairs available). The ambiance is trendy; an attractive light-filled interior with fun touches like a wall of flowers that make a great back drop for selfies and foodie photos. Came to Momo's Cafe yesterday for a Yelp event where I got to try an assortment of their dishes including: braised minced pork over rice, Taiwanese sausage, taro meat roll, and of course: the infamous popcorn chicken! And there was an assortment of teas to try including: lemon black tea, green tea with milk foam, Momo's bubble milk tea, and Assam bubble milk tea. The food was all great. They really brought me back to my childhood and days living in Taiwan. My favorites were the pork, and the popcorn chicken. So crispy, savory, and fragrant! Some reviewers mentioned that the prices are steep especially compared to your run of the mill casual Taiwanese restaurant/cafe but you can taste the difference in quality and attention to detail here. I had an amazing time sampling some of Momo's Cafe's best eats last night. Thanks to a Yelp event I came to a neighborhood I pretty much never come to and tried a DC hidden gem. This cafe serves authentic and innovative Taiwanese dishes and drinks at a very reasonable price. I parked at the closed down Safeway across the street and made my way over to try the lemon black tea, green tea with milk foam, momo's bubble milk tea, popcorn chicken, braised pork over rice, a taro sausage and more! The drinks are on a different level than your average bubble tea. They feel handcrafted and unique and complex. My favorite was the green tea with milk foam. The flavor was wonderful but on top of that, there were a couple of different textures you could drink whether you drank just the foam, the foam with the tea or just the tea. The owner explained it all to us and it was lovely to get a background of the restaurant and also a quick intro on their thought process when creating the drinks. The food was delicious, overall my favorite was the braised pork over rice followed by the popcorn chicken. I would love to come back and dine in and try some of the other dishes they have on their menu. If you're looking for some comfort food made by real people and authentic ingredients come here, I know I will definitely be back. Who puts frozen corn and unseasoned cabbage in a bento box?? Staff here are friendly and there's outdoor seating, but otherwise I'm not clear why this place has so many stars. I got the eel bento box, and whole the eel was quite good, the sides were perplexing and underwhelming. They also couldn't adjust the sugar level in the milk tea because it's premixed. This feels like a pale imitation of what Taiwanese food could be. And for anyone interested in the honey toast-- they are not doing it until dine in service resumes, who knows when. read more

The bubble tea was delicious and authentic. The tapioca balls were fresh, soft, and chewy. The truffle fries (not pictured) were also delicious, hot and fresh from the fryer. The main issue my friends and I encountered was with the staff, who was clearly in a terrible mood and was releasing the negative energy onto us and the other customers. Requesting or ordering anything more felt like a scary task because of the intimidating environment. Overall, the store is clean and very COVID friendly; social distancing rules and sanitation is strictly adhered to which made me feel very comfortable. However, poor attitude, yelling and speaking in a condescending manner create an inhospitable environment and extremely inappropriate for a business to run. Momo's Cafe is a small Taiwanese cafe in the Palisades in Northwest D.C. It's in the basement of a small building on a street of other local businesses. Inside, there are a few seats in booths and a tiny bar. The outside has a little patio with a small wooden bench. The space is well decorated and cozy. I stopped in for just bubble tea and it's the best I've had in Washington, D.C. It cost over $5, but it comes in a fancy hard plastic cup you get to keep and the flavor is wow. To drink, I ordered an Assam black tea with boba and my friend ordered the lemon black tea. The drinks were packaged well and arrived with no issues! My boba drink was perfect, so I will definitely say this place knows how to do boba! My friend said her drink was good, but a little sweet for her preference. We were supposed to get 2 popcorn chicken bento boxes, but only one came. Ubereats did refund for the other missing one. The portion was still pretty good for 2 people though. The popcorn chicken bento box just missed the mark for me. It was very basic in my opinion and something I could have made at home easily. It came with a huge serving of white rice, corn, cooked cabbage, and a super subpar hard boiled egg. The popcorn chicken didn't taste super fresh (that could be delivery problem, not sure). We ordered a tiramisu cake and it was frozen! Our forks were not able to make a dent in the slice. We asked to return the slice and the waitress said that it will melt soon. ( I am usually a non confrontational person to the restaurant industry and it was my first time asking to return something) Waitress also said she was not able to return it back and still had to charge us. When I hear there's a Taiwanese cafe in town, I have to check it out. Immediately, I loved the cute vibes this cafe had right from the entrance to the interior. However, I must say, the main reason why I'd give this four stars rather than five is because one of the staff there clearly seemed annoyed, or did not seem to like his job and it really shows. One of my friends who came with me to visit Momo's actually came in the past and shared that this same staff seemed to be annoyed the last time she came too. Another reason is while some are reasonably priced, a few other dishes seem veryy pricey. BUT DONT LET THAT STOP YOU FROM COMING HERE! Their manager is EXTREMELY nice and you can really tell genuinely wants to provide the best and authentic Taiwanese food and to give the best experience to all customers. THIS, I loved. I loved their oyster pancake, popcorn chicken, pork on rice, and Momo's potted milk tea. These are a few of what represents the food in Taiwan! My friend got the beef noodle soup and the portion was large, and she enjoyed it as well. I loved how the popcorn chicken was not that salty and was larger than other popcorn chicken I've tried in America. You can really taste the flavor! I love how the milk tea is not overly sweet and tastes just like the ones in Taiwan. The manager told us that the pork on the rice is pork belly, and it really melts in your mouth! It was really tasty. I even brought leftovers home and it still tastes good later on in the day too. My friend thought the oyster pancake was salty, but I personally really enjoyed it. It was flavorful, and I personally love oysters and eggs, so this was a winner for me. We also had the opportunity to try their hot pot. They offer a spicy version and a non spicy version. I love spicy food so I was excited. I personally didn't think it was that terribly spicy but it does leave that lingering spicy taste that builds up so if you don't like that, this may kill yah. It is also over $20, so I do think this particular dish was a bit pricier than desired. Especially with all-you-can-eat hot pots all over the DMV now for approx $28, a one-hot-pot-dish for $20 doesn't seem the best bang for your buck. However, I think their pork on rice ($9/$10) and beef noodle soup ($12/$13) and their appetizers were pretty worth. PLUS, THEY GOT A CUTE FLOWER WALL AND A CAT WALL. Perfect for photos. I barely leave comments, so it's either really good or really bad. Today I just got out of school and walked pass by this brand new store. I had popcorn chicken, fried New York steak, Shizuoka matcha, and honey toast. I'm really satisfied with what I ordered. They all taste really good. Especially for fried New York steak, it's SO COOL. It comes with medium rare, and I can cook it myself when it comes to my table. The quality of meat is really good. For drink, their milk foam is really well made, it tastes exactly the same as what I had in China, and they also give you rich amount of it. I had honey toast at the end, it was amazing. However I was told that it needs to wait for 25 mins to be done, so if you guys want honey toast only, you should maybe make a phone call or just order drinks and snacks to wait there for a little bit. Cute little (seats about 20 inside and another 20 on the patio) restaurant- the Taiwanese food seemed like a fusion of Chinese and Japanese cuisines. We were actually in Potomac Overlook Park in Arlington VA when a Yelp search listed Momo's since it is literally directly across the River. It was a quick drive over the Chain Bridge (also convenient to Key Bridge) with plenty of street parking. They have bento boxes which make a great lunch (rice, egg, tofu, cabbage, sausage, etc and your choice of protein or vegetable. They range in price from about $11-$16. It made a excellent lunch with milk tea. Also someone was having the sizzling beef noodles- smelled delicious. Nice change of pace and easy drive from Arlington (at least on a weekend). read more

THIS PLACE IS SO CUTE. Super Asian-aesthetic! Quick and sweet service, but the place is pretty small, only about 5-6 tables so not good for crowds. The menu is also pretty small too with not a lot of choices but it was a fun time! We tried the Momo's Potted Plant but it tasted more like chocolate milk than bubble tea with all of the Oreos but the presentation was cute. We also tried the Beef Noodle Soup and Sizzling Noodles. They offered to bring us more of the beef meat sauce for flavor. It was a tad spicy but they both tasted pretty good! My favorite was that the Sizzling Noodles came with black or green tea- we got the black tea and it was mildly sweet and good. Would definitely come back and try their other items (they have a chicken katsu sandwich, popcorn chicken, and sizzling plate with steak that I want to try). I'll start by saying I love this place's food and boba...and I'm a regular. Unfortunately on my latest visits the service has been brusque to the point of rude. Most recently I ordered in advance of coming on the phone (to give them a heads up since I'm pregnant and when hunger strikes it strikes hard :)), and was told I could only sit and eat the food there "if other customers didn't come in and need my seat". When I ordered a milk tea with boba the server exasperatedly sighed and said "do you even know what milk do you want...we have over 21 types". That could have otherwise been an awesome message (damn 21 types! Bespoke!), but it just felt like I was a bit of an inconvenience for him instead. My visit today wasn't even at peak hours (3pm late lunch). Hoping this isn't the new normal :/ this is too great a place to have the experience dampened by bad service read more

A spot off of Georgetown located on MacArthur Blvd NW about 5 minutes away, is a place I highly recommend for some really tasty Taiwanese food. I'm not sure how close to authenticity the food is but what I can say is from what I order, it's all delicious. I got the steak bento box. The thinly sliced steak was tender with a slight sweetness from the sauce and quite savory. It comes with steamed vegetables of corn and cabbage salad mix. Half an egg that's been marinating in a sauce as well as tofu on the side. I also got their popcorn chicken which I heard great reviews about. And let me say, it doesn't disappoint. Tons of flavor with a nice bounce of crunchiness. Lastly, I've seen a myriad of photos on Yelp so I thought I would order one for myself which is there plotted boba milk tea. Very refreshing. A nice balance of milk and cream that made this drink smooth and silky. read more

I've been following this biz on social media for a while, and finally got to try today. Maybe I was too excited--it sadly didn't live up to the hype. They have all the trappings of an Instagrammable restaurant--a pretty floral wall outside, a small and sleek interior, colorful boba drinks, and exciting and exotic dishes you can find in Taiwan. The braised pork rice was comforting and tasty, but it wasn't as memorable as others I've tried in the area. I will say that I appreciated that it wasn't too salty. I would order this again, but I wouldn't make the drive into the city just for it. Milk tea was above average, but again not something I'd travel for. Some of the other dishes we tried felt like they'd been sitting under the heat lamp too long. Not a fan. For this type of fare, I'd prefer A&J or my beloved Taiwan Cafe, both in the 'burbs. These places have no bells and whistles, but their food is consistently satisfying and worth the drive every time. Our pink-haired server was very nice and helpful, but her dark-haired colleague was the opposite of amicable and made it clear that she was only willing to do the bare minimum required of her job. Unless she's related to management (or even if she is), I'd suggest letting her go so that someone more deserving can fill this position and draw and maintain customers. They're tucked into the same strip mall as the sublime Kotobuki, and street parking is relatively easy to find. In sum, a unique dining experience in this part of town, but one that struggles to distinguish itself amongst urban and suburban competition alike. read more

You probably can't find other Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants with this decent environment and beautiful interior design around the area. My dining experience here was way beyond perfect, pretty food with super friendly employees. My friends and I were looking for some desserts to try, and the nice employee patiently explained the menu to us and suggested some signature items from their menu. I love their honey toast, especially the house-made strawberry cream, and the X'mas limited edition ginger house totally adds more fun and creativity to it! The potted plant icecream is also a delightful choice, too! I will definitely take my friends to MoMo's cafe again! Very enjoyable restaurant!! This is a cute little Taiwanese spot on MacArthur Blvd. in the affluent neighborhood of Palisades. UNFORTUNATELY, the food was overpriced and wasn't all that good. I ordered the Japanese Short Rib On Rice, popcorn chicken, and milk tea. The short rib was okay, but I've had better elsewhere for less than $14.50. The popcorn chicken was bland and rubbery, and didn't come with any sauces until I asked for ketchup and spicy mayo. The milk tea was also bland and the boba was way overcooked (too mushy). I really wanted to try their honey toast, but it was $23.50!!!!! NO THANKS!!! I could come up with a long list of places with similar food items that are far better and cheaper. I'd recommend Magnolia in Vienna as a solid alternative. Their honey toast is delicious and only costs $13.99, and everything else I've gotten there has always been delicious as well! read more

3.5 stars. Ordered (via UberEats) the popcorn chicken and minced pork on rice. Not bad, but not amazing for me to order again. The items were packaged nicely with utensils included, and they had their logo on them which I thought was a nice touch. Nice portion of the popcorn chicken, decent flavor. I do think they should consider making a special sauce on the side for folks to dip their chicken in. The pork on rice overall was good, however I do think for the price point, they should consider a heavier portion imo. It looks like they're a new restaurant, so hopefully some changes for improvement in the future will occur. read more

First visit on 2/17/2019. It was a great experience overall, would definitely revisit for other dishes we did not have on the day. Iron pan chicken fillet: the chicken thigh was almost as big as my face and it was well-seasoned. Noodle and sauce were good as well. Braised mince pork on rice: rice was well-cooked. Love the pickle, being sweet in a good way. Taiwanese sausage hamburger: the first place in the US where I found rice sausages! Tasted good. Popcorn chicken: this one was okay. Green tea with milk foam, half sugar: the green tea was so Taiwanese. Although the taste of milk foam is not able to compete with the leading brand in Taiwan, it was above average. One concern is that the price is a bit high. read more

I came here casually with my friend just for a midday snack. I ordered the Momo's Potted Plant Milk Tea because it sounded cool and it did not disappoint! The milk tea was super delicious and not too sweet. The "dirt" was basically crushed oreos, which was obviously very yummy and gave the drink a nice texture. My friend ordered the Fried Dumplings, which came out nice and crispy on the outside. The place was super cute and casual and it looks like they have a good amount of food options. We saw someone with something that looked like a personal hot pot. I'd love to come back and try their other food sometime! read more

My parents and I came here in search of Taiwanese comfort food. We ordered popcorn chicken, beef noodle soup, and fish over rice. The chicken and fish were both really good! The beef noodle soup was kind of meh though--a little too heavy for my taste. Im looking forward to trying more of the menu if I'm in the neighborhood again! read more
