LOVE the newly renovated interior and exterior patio with overhead fans and heaters! Took my Mom to Mon Ami on Saturday around 11:30am for lunch and we were seated on the patio which was already full. The interior dining room was partially full and many tables had reserved signs. The new interior and decor is awesome - very elegant and upscale and not too dark or too bright. We both got the Classique Steak Frites and it was amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well and the fries were crispy and hot. Next time we go back I will make a resy for the fancy dining room! read more

This was my first time eating at Mon Ami Gabi. I've been wanting to try Mon Ami for a while. My dad and I both had fries with our meals. For a moment I thought I was eating fries from Five Guys! They looked and tasted the same. My dad's burger was delicious, that was probably the saving grace. I ordered a chicken ceasar salad. Have you ever had a chicken ceasar salad where the plate is divided like the North and the South? Would it be that difficult to put the chicken into the salad? Seems to make sense to me. The service was completely lackluster. No one asked if we wanted bread. Whether or not you charge for it is irrelevant to me. Every French bistro I've been to has always offered bread. When the waiter brought drink refills, he could not be bothered to remove the empty glasses. These aren't giant Olive Garden tables where you don't notice if they stack up, these are little tables where space is limited. Our waiter never checked to see if our food was satisfactory. Did he even inquire if we wanted dessert, show us a dessert menu? Nope! Could be box up our leftovers, nope! If this was a DIY meal, I would have just eaten at home! read more

Am sad to see that the quality of one of Bethesda's staples has gone so downhill after a really beautiful renovation. Prices are the same, but the beef used in their "steak frites" is is so clearly of lower quality. Just bland and tasteless and no longer has that signature Mon Ami style. This is the 2d time that Bethesda MAG manager tried to get us to sit in far back near toilets. My female friend declined today and I remembered avoiding same tactic a few months ago. Restaurant was not overbooked with plenty of empty booths. I also had made a reservation earlier asking for a nice table. We doubt that the very effeminate manager (not that there's anything wrong with that) would treat male patrons that way. Prices have signiificantly gone up. Baguette w butter is extra. After over one year of renovations, Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda, MD reopened a couple of months ago. This is now the only Mon Ami Gabi restaurant in the DMV since the closure of Mon Ami Gabi in Reston, VA. The new decor is stunning! Tge bar is now much bigger and luxurious and opens to the street. Two huge chandeliers contribute to the Belle Époque, modernized Parisian bistro style. Some of the Reston and "old" Mon Ami Gabi employees returned, giving a sense of continuity to this new iteration. The menu still is firmly classical French, and I was happy to see that the pre-COVID Happy Hour was resurrected! I ordered some escargots (no longer Happy Hour), which surprisingly came with a delicious bâton of warm French bread. Then I had two Happy Hour appetizers "deviled" eggs, the gougères. For seconds I ordered their skate wings in brown butter and caper sauce, which were a staple at Reston, and one of my favorite dishes. The whole thing ended with tarte tatin, my favorite dessert. Classic menu, good service and beautiful decor make Mon Ami Gabi a destination. read more

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for so long, and then they went under construction which prolonged my wait. However, it was very much worth it! Our waiter, Carlos, was extremely kind and helpful. He was able to accommodate everything for us making it a very enjoyable time. Their salad is delicious! The lettuce was so fresh and was paired well with their vinaigrette. The chicken was tender and perfect! The macaroni gratin was also really tasty! We were stuffed but couldn't help but order dessert. The apple tart was definitely worth it, and was a great way to end our meal. read more

The service was quite good, and it does a good job of looking like a French Bistro. The food was good, but not exceptional.

It's alright. I was expecting richer flavors, especially for the confit. The service started slow but it got better after we ordered. I really don't understand why they charge for the baguette, but it was worth it! There was no music when we were there, music would have been nice. The wine selection is good and the meat cuts as well. I just don't think I was left wanting to explore more items on their menu. read more

Stopped on a recent Sunday afternoon around 4PM with my wife and daughter. We were eager to try the outside bar and thought going earlier would guarantee a seat. Ugh. Never go at that time on a Sunday unless the bar is crowded. We were one of 5 people at the outside bar and nobody at the inside bar. The place still had the same fishy smell since the remodel. Initially there were two bartenders. We got one round of drinks and the bartenders disappeared. It looked like everyone was getting prepared for the dinner crowd. Never saw either bartender again for about 15 minutes, so we decided to pass on another round. We then waited another 15 minutes to flag down the bartender and get our check. I thought about asking the hostess to track down one of our bartenders, but decided not to. If you aren't going to provide premium service, then you shouldn't charge premium prices. First off the ambiance, decor, and service was nice. I definitely feel the fench vibe in this restaurant. Kind of a theme park immersive type of experience like you are dining in an classic Parisian restaurant. The food I had, however, was a bit underwhelming. I ordered the onion soup and steak frites, bordelais style. The soup was good but the steak not so much. I asked for medium and I got more medium well. The meat was tough, dry, and lukewarm. The fries were chewy and not hot either. To be frank, I've had way better steak at Texas Roadhouse. I've give my food experience 2 stars but because of the ambiance and service I am rating it higher. read more

Mon Ami Gabi never disappoints for brunch! My husband and I had been to the one in Las Vegas twice and loved it both times so he booked a birthday brunch reservation at the one in Bethesda for us and my parents. We got there right when they opened but it was packed by the time we left so we definitely recommend having a reservation if you can! The service was great and the food came out quickly. Our server even brought out a birthday treat at the end of brunch with a candle which was really nice! Brioche French Toast (10/10) - I will get this every time I come for brunch... it's amazing! The bread is so soft on the inside but still has a nice crisp on the outside. It's very sweet between the blueberries, blueberry sauce, and chantilly cream that you don't even need to add syrup! Sweet Chicken Sausage (8/10) - I added this as a side... I really enjoyed the sweet flavor but it wasn't anything super special. The only thing keeping Mon Ami Gabi from 5 stars is the price point... I do feel that it's overpriced for what you get. As a result, I'll only go for special occasions when I'm traveling and near one of the locations. read more

We were very excited to go back to Mon Ami Gabi. We have been regulars here and they closed for renovations for a long time. We fell in love with the new look! As always, MAG has a very pleasant buzz. I wish I could say the same about the food and the service. The person who assisted us was okay, knew everything but there were big gaps in the timing of service. Maybe it was busy? The disappointing meal started with the baguette! First, they are now charging for the bread. I don't mind paying but the quality has suffered: it wasn't fresh, hard and dry, and smaller. I wouldn't order it the next time. I ordered my favorite Frisée with Poached egg and Lardons... but was again disappointed by the small size and watery taste. Adding salt barely made it more edible. Starting with service. We went there with our white American friends. Let's say service towards them was 10/10. What was it towards us? A 5/10. Perhaps even 4. And our guests would say we are friendly people. Why the discrepancy. My mussels entree was ok. Couldn't get to the squiggly fries. Everyone seemed to have left the fries- a smaller but tastier portion would be better. Our friend ate her salmon, but left all the veggies- didn't care for the artichokes. BEAUTIFUL renovation - this truly is a lovely restaurant. The bar has an open option for which you can sit inside or outside, giving dimension. Our issue was the inattentive bar staff. We said we didn't want food, but 3 menus were in our space, never removed. We finished our drink and our glasses remained empty for at least five minutes while a full complement of bar staff milled around in front of us. Finally we asked someone for the check. They need to encourage their bartenders to scan both sides of the bar and address needs. read more

TIP: Reservations are helpful in case it's busy. Mon Ami Gabi is a French restaurant originally based out of France. To have a one location within a drive is a good reason to check out some fine french cuisine. The service is excellent and the food is delectable. I left full and satisfied with the craving to go back. ORDER: * Onion Soup Au Gratin * Your classic French Onion soup baked with Gruyère cheese. Each bite full of caramelized onions in savory beef broth with melted Gruyère cheese. * Melted Brie * This was the best melted brie I've had. It was dressed with cranberry, chestnuts, orange and brown butter. The richness of this melted brie was absolutely incredible. It was accompanied by tender pieces of bread to smother in. * Beef Bourguignon * This entree was an event that I wasn't able to capture on video. This was severed with the pasta plated solo; followed by the waiter slowly pouring the braised beef, baby heirloom carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms and bacon over the pappardelle pasta. The beef and veggies were tender and the sauce was full of a wave of flavor. This entree was plentiful. * Cavatelli Pasta * This simple yet tasty pasta was smothered in pepato cheese, trifle cream and confit celery root. If you're not a fan of celery you won't like the celery root chunks in the pasta. The truffle flavor was heavenly. After their recent renovation, our visit was quite disappointing. The new entrance is very nice and welcoming (similar layout to Le Diplomat in DC - but that's where the comparison ends). The restaurant acoustics were very loud, making it hard to talk. Tables were ridiculously close together. Food was not as good as I had remembered it. Even the frisée salad was "off". The previous setup had been so much more comfortable, enjoyable, elegant and relaxing. Extremely disappointed. Also - to note there were two little alcove tables in corners - seemed more quiet and private. Tried to get seated there with online reservation request two weeks ahead - arriving at restaurant we were told it wasn't available - so I have no idea what it takes to reserve one.... Again - disappointing that they can't even honor a reservation or communicate about maybe a different date or time for the specific table. read more

This place has been on my radar for a while as a place to try and I was finally able to experience it for brunch for the first time this weekend. To say the least, I think the wait was worth it and my expectations were happily fulfilled. Their brunch menu had plenty of common staples that one has become accustomed to seeing on a brunch menu such as omelettes, eggs benedict, etc. but they were all very well executed. Additionally, being a French cuisine establishment, they had lovely french options such as the Croque Monsieur which is what I personally sprang for. I was quite happy with the dish, it had a nice richness you sort of expect from French cuisine but it also wasn't really heavy so I felt wonderfully light after the meal. The fries/frites it came with as a side were also super well done. I've had the misfortune of being used to frites being either ridiculously overcooked to the point of the majority of them being burnt and crunchy or they're soft and feel unnecessarily oily. These frites had just the right amount of crisp crunch to them while also having the lovely soft taste of potatoes with just the right amount of oil. I also had a few bites of my fiance's eggs benedict and it was also fantastic. I don't think that it does anything new or interesting that makes it spectacular, but as I previously mentioned it was just a supremely well done eggs benedict. The accompanying potatoes to the eggs benedict were a bit odd though. I'm not sure what the intention was but the potatoes came out quite hard and crunchy, almost akin to croutons. Maybe they were meant to soak up the egg and soften that way but it wasn't quite obvious and ended up being the only thing we really left alone on our plates. When the bill came there was a 3.5% surcharge that was added to the bill. I'm not quite sure what that was about and it throws me off a bit. It wasn't really explained to us ever and just showed up abruptly at the end. It's really my main reason I think this is a 4 and not a 5 because I'm just not comfortable being blindsided by that kind of thing. Please note - this is not a review of the food or table service as we were unable to get a reservation. I tried making a dinner reservation for 7 people two weeks ahead of time. I learned that they don't accept online reservations for parties large than 6 people. No big deal, I thought. I'd just call and see if they could help me over the phone. I was told that larger parties are coordinated with the events person and was transferred to her voice mail. I left a message with the specifics of my reservation request and never heard back. My friend tried to make a reservation and had the exact same result. I stopped by the restaurant to explain my situation and ask if they could make a reservation. I was not offered an apology for the event person never returning my call or my friend's call. I was told that the event person doesn't work on weekends, but I explained that both calls to her were made during the week. Then I was told that they would try to find a table, but they found that there were already two large parties and no space available for our party. So, no response to messages, no concern for disappointing the customer, and no attempt to inform me or my friend about availability - considering they already had two other large parties reserved. We'd been looking forward to returning to the newly-reopened Mon Ami Gabi, but I don't know that we'll want to go through all the trouble of trying again. read more

Despite absolutely loving French cuisine, I was never a fan of these manufactured "French Bistro" like Mon Ami Gabi or La Grand Boucherie, it always seemed like eating in Disney World to replicate Paris. It always seemed so pretentious but if the food was great - it was worth closing your eyes to the pretentious interior. This WAS the case at MonAmi Gabi- but since the very extensive and expensive makover, the basic Steak Frites has gotten so thin and insignificant - even if it's a good piece of meat (you really can't tell because it's not significant) you can not really taste it. I cringe taking guests there for Steak Frites, it's more like "Frites and a little bit of steak on the side". The french onion soup's broth was watery and because this is obviously "good enough" for most of Bethesda/Potomac suburbanites who can't bother driving to DC, the wait staff is so busy that you get snappy service as they need to move on to the next table. For the price - which has gotten understandably higher - the food really doesn't justify. It's expensive for offering above average Disneyland French food. It's overall a good experience but it's overpriced and great drinking environment which is needed to mute the impact of the bill! read more

I went for brunch and got the French onion soup, French toast, and my friend got the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. The coffee was freaking delicious. Bottomless pours! The volume was too loud of the closeby tables. I understand they want to accommodate bigger parties but maybe putting them in separate area of restaurant would be better. Very good, a reliable place to eat where you can count on a decent bite. I had a wonderful evening with friends and our server was attentive and kind. He also gave us enough space to socialize in between ordering drinks, food, and dessert. The vibes in this place are a comfortable French bistro! For my entree I had the classique steak frites and it was cooked to my liking. The butter they put on the steak is scrumptious of course! The fries were a mix, some crispy and some soft, which I enjoyed the change in texture. My husband had the roast salmon that came with a cauliflower purée. The portion was a bit smaller than my steak frites. He did say that the salmon was good! Along with the creme brûlée for dessert, that was good as well! Came in New Year's Day for brunch. The restaurant has some seats outside and a lot more indoor seating than it appears from outside. We were promptly seated and our server was very attentive. I got the ham & cheese crepe with a Bellini. The crepe was thin and had a very generous portion of egg inside. The greens on the side may have been dressed though there was no other accompaniment. The Bellini was decent. The peach purée was delicious. My only qualm was that when I walked back to the bathroom the tile was slick and the bathroom had a sewage smell.
