We stopped by Món Superette around 1pm on a Sunday during a study session in Piedmont and decided to give it a try. There was a short wait for our sandwiches since the bánh mì is made to order, but it wasn't too bad. I got the lemongrass pork bánh mì ($12.65), and it was BUSS I'm honestly not even the biggest bánh mì fan, but this was fire. The cilantro, pickled radish, jalapeño, and mayo all worked really well together, and everything tasted super fresh. My favorite part was definitely the toasted baguette! It was perfectly crispy and crunchy without being overly hard, and it helped balance out the saltiness of the pork. The crab cake sando ($14.95) was pretty solid too. The coleslaw, sauce, and crab cake paired really well together, and I liked that they didn't go overboard with the sauce. I do wish the crab cake itself had been a little crispier though. Overall, Món Superette is a great Vietnamese grab-and-go spot! Most of the menu is ready to grab, while the bánh mì is made to order. There are only 1-2 seats inside, so I'd say it's better for a quick lunch or something to grab before heading back to work or class. I get my hair cut, at least what's left of it, on Piedmont Avenue, so sometimes afterward, I look for something to eat given the choices around here. I happened to see this Vietnamese-style grab-and-go shop and was immediately taken in by what looked to be a konbini-like approach. Coincidentally it's just a half-block from Ebiko, a similar takeout operation but with Japanese delicacies. This was ideal for me because I wasn't looking for a sit-down meal. There were several green salads and summer rolls with various protein options in the refrigerated section, but what drew my eye was the $13 Crab Cake Sando already packaged in a box and looking like something I would've grabbed at a Family Mart in Tokyo. Walking up to the counter, I became aware of the rest of their menu. They offer hot food made to order in five minutes: imperial rolls, banh mis, chicken wings, garlic noodles, and even desserts, coconut pandan waffles and fried banana. The sando was pretty tasty. Cut in thirds, the crab cake was nicely breaded to a satisfying crisp. The milk bread could've been softer, but the garlic aioli and light slaw provided the right contrast (Photo 10). I'll return for the hot food. I have been looking for a good bánh mì sandwich close to home. The chicken bánh mì here did not disappoint. The bread was crusty on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, perfect for bánh mì. The veggies were crisp and lightly acidic. There was just enough heat from the jalapeños, and the mayonnaise was rich and tangy. I also tried the imperial roll which was disappointing. The outside was very crunchy and crisp which I liked. However the feeling was bland and tasteless. It needed seasoning or spice or something fresh to give it some flavor. The other disappointment here was that at 1 o'clock in the afternoon they were out of pork for the pork sandwich. It seemed like this may have happened before because several people walked in while I was there and asked do you still have banh mi sandwiches? I guess the regulars know that they run out of things. It would have been nice if they had put a sign up on the menu so you don't have to go up and order to find out that they're out of the thing you had your heart set on. Yummy Garlic Noodles!! Ordered the garlic noodles with tofu and it was delicious, savory, and I loved the chew/bite of the noodles! A bit salty but had good flavor! The restaurant is small and is mostly for take out. There are no chairs or tables to sit at except a small bench facing a window. I wouldn't recommend eating at this place. Seems like they don't clean their grill very well. I found two pieces of metal in my bahn mi sandwich. When I asked them, they said it probably came from the scraper they use to clean the grill?? I had the chance to try out Mon Superette today because my wife had a yoga class nearby on Piedmont and picked up some food to-go for the two of us. She grabbed a crab sandwich from the ready-made section along with an order of spring rolls. The spring rolls were some of the best I've had. The lettuce inside was crisp and refreshing, paired nicely with the fragrant sprigs of mint. The shrimp were plump, and the vermicelli noodles had a nice bounce to them--just like the outer rice paper wrapper, which had great texture. The rolls were tightly wrapped, making them easy to eat without the filling falling apart. Poorly made rolls often unravel with each bite, but that wasn't an issue here. The accompanying peanut sauce was well balanced -- sweet and savory, though a bit thinner than I personally prefer. Nonetheless, it was a very enjoyable dipping sauce that I wish I had more of. The crab sandwich was excellent. The crab cake had the crispy, golden texture of a deep-fried hash brown but was generously packed with crab meat. It was topped with just the right amount of slaw: enough to add contrast without overpowering the crab. Even after sitting for a bit, the bread held up well and didn't get soggy. You get three pieces per order, making it a great option for sharing. This casual, to-go venture from the team behind Bacogai is seriously impressive. Mon Superette feels a bit overrated. The food isn't bad, but it's nothing special. The menu is very small, so choices are quite limited, and the quality is just okay. There are many Vietnamese restaurants that offer better food and value. The chicken wings are pricey at $12 for 4 pieces. The prawn salad (or prawn with rice noodles) tasted bland. We went around 1:30-2:00 pm, and most items were either sold out or hadn't been replenished, leaving very few options. The bánh mì wasn't available at all, which was disappointing. We were on Piedmont Ave and looking for a quick grab and go option. I found Mon Superette and we decided to give it a go. Ordered through the DoorDash app and got the shrimp summer rolls and the chicken wings. Pickup was nice and easy and they have utensils, condiments/sauces, etc, all easily available to grab. The shrimp summer rolls were amazing! The rice paper was perfectly moist - not hard like you sometimes get at other places and not too wet where it falls apart. The shrimp was nice and bouncy and veggies and herbs were fresh and crunchy. The peanut sauce was also super tasty! This is a really good shrimp summer roll. The chicken wings were just okay. They were freshly fried to order and were nice and crispy, but I wasn't a huge fan of the glaze. Beyond the batter and glaze, the chicken meat beneath had absolutely no flavor. You get 4 wings for $12 - $3/wing, which seems quite expensive. I wish the description specifically listed how many wings as it's not clear from the photos. We would likely skip this next time! Tofu Summer Rolls, Fresh Rolls, Spring Rolls, whatever you want to call them, they are a favorite of mine. The form factor, the freshness, the variation from roll to roll, I love it all. This said, there are many choices on Piedmont Ave. For $9 with a tía tô Viet shiso kick and light purple vermicelli noodles inside, this to-go option is a go-to. The people are always kind, there's sriracha behind the counter, and they recently started doing banh mi which is amazing. There's a cute little bench facing the window if you can't wait to eat them where you can people-watch for a moment and free-advertise, which I've done, bringing in folks who have not yet tried the deliciousness at this friendly neighborhood spot. I came at the end of the day and got what was left: che thai, fancy pork spring rolls, and egg sando. Their peanut sauce is different - thick and not drippy. Spring roll is made with banh hoi noodles so it held together well. Not messy and didn't break easily. The egg sando was also good and not drippy and messy. They messed up my banh mi order but was willing to remake it. It is pricey for Viet deli food but it is healthy and decent. I haven't tried the sandwich and che thai yet but so far so good. The owner seems more Chinese than Viet and she can speak Spanish so pretty cool. read more

As expected, this little storefront embodies that weekday lunch kinda vibe, but with modern touches in their simple decor. One of the things I miss from Japan are the convenience stores serving really fresh, inexpensive and delicious Japanese sandos (sandwiches). very meh, questionable sanitary quality. ordered my sandwich and cashier said 7-8 minutes, so i went down the street to another shop. came back and the cashier saw me and then just started making my sandwich in a rush. no gloves....that was icky. he grabbed some chicken that has been sitting in the microwave for 7-8 minutes, slapped on some cilantro and sauce. felt like a sham for $12. tasted salty and meh, hope i don't get food poisoning later. read more

4/17/25 - Long overdue review! I was exploring Oakland and wanted to try this small shop for their sandwiches! The owner was really nice and the sandwich was as good as it looked in pictures! I think I may have gotten the crab cake sando. Anyway... I would totally go back if I'm ever in the area. There's not a lot of seating, but most customers just did grab and go. I've been stopping by Mon Suprette for their Pork Banh Mi for months now. It's my favorite Banh Mi in Oakland, and that's saying a lot because there are a lot of options in tha town. Yesterday I tried the five spice chicken Banh Mi for the first time and it was really good and a little lighter. I've also tried the garlic noodles and was not disappointed. So delicious. Off the food is pre-prepared waiting for you to pick it up at the front deli style. But if you do need a sandwich made, it's always ready for me in under 10 minutes. read more

I am so into the idea of this place and hope to make an updated review that's different than this one. I have to be honest though and say the tofu summer rolls were bland and underwhelming. For that price ($9) they should def be bigger and taste like something. They will also need to find a way to separate them because they stick together and are likely to rip apart. The tofu is plain/no flavor, definitely needs to be seasoned. There were no herbs at all and the dipping sauce was ehh and couldn't save it. I will come back to try some more items and am hopeful they can improve the summer rolls. A couple stars given because staff is pleasant and the place is a good little grab and go spot idea. They gotta up their game cause it's a good concept for those that don't want Ebiko sushi up the way. read more

This mini-mart is perfect for a quick bites to-go. It's the sister shop to Bacogai in Alameda, so no surprise the food here is fresh and tasty, as well! This was my second time stopping in. freshly batter-fried banana. is it the best cold-weather snack? def was on a chilly grey wednesday afternoon in February! late late lunch stop to check out this newish to-go place. there's a small window bench where you can wait a few minutes for your banana but it's not really space to eat. there's a small refrigerated case that holds ready-made sandos, salads, bowls and drinks (there may be more if you go closer to lunch?). think they also make hot drinks to order. sandos on milk bread, sliced in thirds. i appreciated that the small rectangles were easier to eat neatly - tho i might just be a messy eater. tried the crab cake because its season, was tasty and had to leave 1/3 for later because banana but the panko crust was still slightly crunchy even the next morning. slaw helped balance both flavor and texture. soft but never mushy milk bread keeps softer fillings from squeezing out. but. the. banana! hot, crunchy, sesame flecked lightly sweet coating holds melty banana lava. you can't help but break into it immediately as you walk down the street nibbling and grinning and make everybody else want one. read more

I've tried to give Mon Superette a fair shot, but it's kind of turning into a wild goose chase for banh mi. I've stopped by multiple times, no banh mi. Today I swung by, right at opening (11am), noon, and even 12:30--and every time, no banh mi in sight. I was told to come back at Noon, too. Just one very chill person working and a few things in the fridge. At this point, tracking down a sandwich here feels like trying to catch a rare Pokémon. Maybe they exist? Maybe it's a myth? I ordered the lemongrass pork bahn mi. The bread and veggies were good but the pork was very crumbly and tiny pieces of meat. I think it would be better to leave it in strips or pieces, the texture and flavor was changed because of this for me. I actually pulled out the meat and ate it as a veggie sandwich. read more

Grab and go sister to Alameda's popular Bacogai hot pot, Mon Superette is offering quick and light meals for folks on the move. There is a cold case filled with drinks, salads, spring rolls, and sandwiches and a limited to order hot menu. There is also a fun assortment of snacks at the register, including potato chips and puffed rice bars (really recommend the matcha vanilla). There are no tables, but there is a bench to wait or snack. I had the $12 fancy pork summer roll, which comes with a lightly spiced peanut sauce and deliciously crispy pork. These were much more filling than I anticipated so I feel like I got a good deal for the cost. For $6 I took home Vietnamese coffee which is sweet and bold. I also ordered the $11 garlic noodles for later - well seasoned and tasty, perfect to throw in some veggies and protein at home. The staff are also very attentive and kind! As the new grab and go on the block with only a week open, there are plans to expand a hot plate section. With Oori and Ebiko on the same block, I would like to see a few more options in the under $10 range, but the food is definitely filling and delicious. I'll be back! read more

I assume this was in error since I see sauce in at least one photo here for the imperial rolls, so I recommend checking before you leave.
